Pros: Wonderful welcome, super breakfast, swimming pool and advice.Really special. We must return!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was excellent value for money and we couldn't of asked for a nicer hotel owner to stay with. We had difficulties getting transport from Toulouse airport so Francoise even picked us up ! The pool area, breakfast and overall amenities were excellent for our weekend away for a friends wedding and we highly recommend here to anyone.
Cons: Everything was excellent so have nothing negative to say for this hotel and its lovely owner.
Preau Saint-Jacques - Castres - Building
2
9.7 Excellent (62 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Preau Saint-Jacques is in the heart of Castres, within a 5-minute walk of St. Benedict Church and Goya Museum. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, a library, and coffee/tea in a common area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous host, attentive & welcoming (fluent English speaker too). Excellent combination of coziness, modern reworking of a traditional house. Perfect for a long or short stay. The location is ideal in the old town. Restaurants within 2 minutes, Place Jean Jaurès 4 minutes.
Cons: Impossible to dislike anything here!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Character, space, location, outside space, owner’s care
Cons: Church bells chime all night. Fridge small when shared with another couple. Just a curtain between the en-suite and bedroom. All very minor issues.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful place to stay. Lovely cottage, great space, with a welcoming stove burning. Very nice breakfast supplied, and we enjoyed being able to have it in our own kitchen at our leisure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners Eric and Catherine could not have been more friendly and helpful. The property is right in the centre of Castres and the town is interesting and buzzy, but behind the door off the street it is quiet, shady and secluded. The courtyard garden is delightful and we ate outside all the time.
Cons: Parking needs a bit of effort and the property is not easy to find initially in the very narrow streets of the city centre. We got used to it!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Castres airport is very small, so small that you need to order a taxi as no taxi's are available at the airport.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hidden coach house conversion with roomy lounge, log fire and modern kitchen. Charming couple run it, both extremely helpful. Central location with a short walk to the plaza, bars and restaurants. Excellent shower and bed. We shared the house the first night with other guests and had it to ourselves the second night. Great value.
Cons: Tricky to find, partly as Booking.com map link is actually the wrong street. Fine once you know where it is. Parking can be difficult nearby but we took owners advice and didn't buy a ticket and had no problem! Only downside was the church bells which sound out the hours through the night and disturbed me as a light sleeper. Fresh bread in the morning would be appreciated, rather than the evening before
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent facilities throughly recommend.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location in the mediaeval centre is superb for walking around but not at all convenient for parking. The layout is unusual in that the two bedrooms share a sitting room/kitchen so that unless a party takes both rooms, you will be sharing the kitchen with strangers. The breakfast takes the form of rather basic ingredients left for you to put together yourself. This would not suit everybody. The rooms are extremely stylishly presented. The owners, who live in the adjoining house, were delightful and usefully informative.
Cons: The parking nearby is all on pay and display. The nearest free parking is 10 mins walk away. Because a road was being dug up during our stay, it was difficult to get the car near the door to load suitcases.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: It was a little hard to find, but no problem once called Eric, he was right there to guide us.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We only stayed for one night, on our way home. But the location would be excellent for visiting Albi, Toulouse, Castres .. all beautiful places, and the Montagne Noire. The breakfast was fabulous, with home made jam and a huge choice of fruit, yoghourt and cake, as well as cereals. Delicious coffee too. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer, but we have already formed a plan to come back. The house is gorgeous, as is the garden, and it would be easy to spend a very relaxing week here, at least. Our bedroom was huge and would be a lovely sitting room in poor or chilly weather, but the garden has some lovely places to sit out, and there is a heated terrace in front of the house as well.
Cons: I can't think of anything.
8.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We only had breakfast at la Vivarié because we only stayed one night and wanted to spend time downtown in Chartres. We were given a recomendation at the hotel for a restaurant on the river, and we had one of the best meals of our entire vacation.
Cons: A lot of smoking in the driveway and around the entrance.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location, the amazing 17th century building and interior. Very comfortable bed...large room. Amazing food!!!
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful old Manor in lovely area just outside of Castres. Deco Very in keeping with the building. Small enough to feel part somewhere special and away from the crowds. Evening meals a delight just be mindful to let John know of any dislikes as is a set meal, many thanks for not doing beef.
Cons: Always my bug bear, no normal teabags in the room but my fault for not bringing my own. A tiny moan the info in room stated diner at one price and we were charged more and that drinks in moderation were included but we were charged for all. So if this concerns your budget, best check cost in advance.

Pros: When we arrived our lovely host showed us the way to a wonderful local dining establishment. Really great to have local knowledge. Our hosts were so lovely, Nelly had some English and was so helpful. Nelly explained to us the affinity between Australia & Mazamet, through the wool industry. Very interesting as we had noticed street names such as Melbourne, Adelaide & Sydney. The accommodation was very clean and well appointed and very lovely decor. Large shared living area and roomy bedroom with gorgeous shutters on the windows. Private bathroom in the room. They made us a lovely French style breakfast which set us up for the day. Bed was super comfy. Lovely quiet part of town. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Cons: The signage was different to what was on the website. So we found it a little hard to find for non French speaking travellers. Also, the road name didn't come upon the GPS. However, we called our hosts and they came out on the road to guide us in.

Pros: Warm, friendly welcome from the receptionist- nothing was too much trouble! Size of room, cleanliness and good bathroom with wonderful shower.
Cons: The heat overnight in the room- 28deg and non adjustable. Climatic control very efficient at raising temperature but would not lower temperature- blowers would not work to cool! Window locked not to open! I had to contact B & B in Paris at 2am- they sent the receptionist (bless her heart) to the room with a window key!! Otherwise no problems!

We were served the evening menu without any menu card nor prices...the following day when we paid we found out that the menu was 38 Euros per person without wine...which was really pricey for the food we had...breakfast was also expensive at 10 euros per person for coffee and croissants, also for our children ...no eggs and bacon

Pros: clean room, very -pleasant staff very helpful, always a smile, great service in the restaurant meal good and the wine too, wifi good and simple to connect, Castres is asmall town in lovely setting.
Cons: all good except the shower, this leak's onto the floor and soaks anything on it
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Easy secure parking. Lovely staff. Big comfy bed, electric shutters so no light pollution, great air con, very quiet, hardly heard any noise Breakfast was good
Cons: Not too many facilities around - but if you have car, all in 3-7 min driving
7.5 Good
Pros: You expect a certain standard from an Ibis and this place delivered. The staff were really good, helpful (including helping me print 5 boarding passes for our journey home). The lady who ran the restaurant was funny and charming as well as efficient. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The buffet breakfast was very good, although nothing hot, apart from toast. We only had dinner one night (see below also!); the choice was limited but there was a meat dish, a pasta dish and a fish dish with buffet starters and sweets. The food was cooked nicely and the portions were generous. Wine was quite competitively priced too.
Cons: A group of 5 of us had travelled for the European Rugby Champions Cup match between Castres and Gloucester. For us, without a car, it was a little out of the city centre but taxis were available when we needed them and the local bus service from outside the hotel to the centre is free (sadly it only runs until approx 7:00 PM). It was a 40 -50 minute walk depending on your level of fitness and alcohol consumed. I was also disappointed that the restaurant didn't open Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays for dinner (although breakfast was always available).
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: A long way from town centre, but close to large shopping complex.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room, great size bed, hotel was virtually empty, loads of good restaurants in castres
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything was spot on including the free breakfast. It is further from the centre of Castres than your information described making it necessary to use the car. An excellent hotel with pleasant staff.
Cons: Location. Quiet but a bit far out of town.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Clean
Cons: Very basic. Even more basic than that.

Pros: 1) The staff were brilliant, very helpful and accommodating. I had to be up really early one morning and they provided an early breakfast for me. At the other end of the spectrum, I was a little late going to dinner and they said no problem. 2) Airconditioning is a god send in this area during the height of the summer
Cons: Location, the hotel is a little bit out of the way from things but as long as you have a car then it is fine.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, room size, presence of restaurant
Cons: Unfortunately the restaurant was closed on Sunday
