Casas Vale Martinho - Santa Comba Dão - Building
8.4 Excellent (157 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Space partially located in an ecological reserve area, where there is a spring, a small natural pool and a small forest composed of oaks, pines, laurel trees, chestnut trees, hazel trees, olive trees and cork trees surrounding it and where a small orchard and still a traditional vegetable garden recreating what had once been a thriving farm where the harvest remains biological. It was possible to transform a bicentennial house made in granite into a pleasant space, where there is the reception, the dining room, the kitchen, the bar and a social room, maintaining its original layout, adding a new building to create a zone with comfortable and cozy rooms. The region where this small rural tourism enterprise (Vale Martinho) is located is simply fantastic surrounded by a vast forest area, embraced by two rivers Mondego and Dão, having the particularity of having two emblematic cities Coimbra and Viseu half an hour by car, and still have two of the highest elevations in Portugal, Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo. In this place there is still an eco lane that winds between valleys and hills lined by one of the banks of Dão, where the walks are unique, which can be done with bicycles rented in the farm itself. In this undertaking, besides sleeping, breakfast is served with regional products, some of them produced on the farm. WC and balcony Extra bed Baby crib Bar service Massage service (on request) Whirlpool Bicycle rental service. Small library Music Internet access TV Event spaces What to visit on the spot The town of Santa Comba Dão has an emblematic historical center, where the main church is located, the house of the arches and where other important buildings are located. Its alleyways also have small local shops where formerly multi-generation gathering places where small restaurants serve a typical gastronomy In the center of the city we can see a small stream that guides us through gardens that take us to the steps of the county, where besides the building in which the Town Hall is located there are others that make this place a very peculiar place. Trekking along fantastic trails where a breathtaking view of the Dão River stands out, where you can see some very peculiar bird species. Horse rides Bicycle tours Canoeing Catch of wild mushrooms (at the time and with guide) Paddle boating Ecopista that takes us to Viseu for a dream trip where paradisiacal views invite us to a picnic. Small hidden villages In the surrounding municipalities Serra do Caramulo Star saw Coimbra Viseu
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing dinner of authentic Indian food. Friendly host and entertaining dog.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The owner was very nice, he really tried to compensate the 45 minutes we waited outside for him after being told that morning that the check-in couldn't be done at 16h only at 17h. He had an important meeting and only arrived at 17h45. He gave us samosas for free. He was always very polite and nice, asking if we needed anything else. He was alone all the weekend, didn't had any help and was really trying that everything was great for his customers. The outside balcony was very pleasant. Our dinner was very good. The room and the bathroom were spacious and the temperature inside was very comfortable.
Cons: The 45 minutes waiting. It smelled like moisture when we entered. Our bathroom had black fungus on the ceiling. The door handle and the bedside table drawer were loosened almost falling apart. The light of the bedroom was too white and cold. The property dogs weren't very well behaved or friendly we didn't explore around because of them. No wi-fi in the bedrooms only in the living room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean beautiful home with modern extension and stunning woodland views from the bedroom through magnificent full wall sliding doors. Pretty garden and rural setting.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: It was clean in room
Cons: The location was in the middle of no where, so if you didn’t hire a car than you would have to rely on owner. It smelt damp, no internet in room only living room. You had to wait for owner if you wanted any food at all. It was freezing, no heating. There is no view at all, just back garden. It is purely his home with a couple of rooms added on. There is no spar or therapies at all.
6.3 Good
Pros: Very comfy bed, clean and modern bedroom and shower room. Good view from bedroom.
Cons: For the price charged expected tea/coffee making facilities, a small fridge and a locking safe. Also seating for two in the room. Communal area very cold and dark. Breakfast very limited.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: very peaceful place
Cons: could not control the heating !
9.3 Excellent
Pros: In spite of having a personal issue on the day we arrived all personnel did their best to overcome it with simpathy and effort. Congratulations.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were charming and tried to make us feel at home. A large garden around the house - time for relaxing hours. Very quiet place, ideal for people with walking impediments. The hosts told us that 20 percent of their revenue goes to a local school for training dogs for blind people. A really good reason to support this little hotel.
Cons: It was a bit difficult to find.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Me and my aunt, who traveled with me, liked the home feel of Casas de Vale Martinho. The building had a very cosy living room with a fireplace where we relaxed a bit having some tea after a lovely dinner. The place is well maintained and the owner is a very thoughtful person. We really enjoyed our one night stay and will for sure come back sometime.
