location, decor with the old liner dining room felt the cooked breakfast was poor and would be better to be self service buffet style
The second time I have stayed here and this time it was tryng to be something it is not, and in the process fails to project what a unique, fabulous and unique place this is - ancient coaching inn + part of the interior of an opulent Edwardian ocean liner! The 'anywhere' boutique hotel interior & litter of sweeties, mags, cushions, throws etc. cluttered our relatively small room did not equal luxury. Worse, the restaurant food was mediocre, very limited in choice and not cheap - imagine our surprise that the chef was featured in the regional gourmet mag in our bedroom stating his reverance for local food. Why did he not use the excellent family butchers across the street?? Apart from some senior waiting staff who were trying hard, the younger members of staff appeared under trained and unaware that their prime focus should be the guests, not chattering to each other.
Quality breakfast, couldn't be faulted and beautiful dining room. Bathroom fittings unfinished. Couldn't open window of bathroom, painted shut and no extractor fan Fittings all loose and some falling off wall.
Very convenient position in town, and for local touring, comfortable bedroom, very pleasant staff. The dining room in the hotel and the Bistro were both really chilly.
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. Room & Food? Excellent That we were forced to leave a day early due to deteriorating weather conditions...Can't wait to go back. The town was magical with its very thick blanket of snow
center of Alnwick easy to find the bistro restaurant not very good
location, dining room association with the olympic ship, ease of parking
It was clean and comfortable, well located and our room was quiet. The breakfast (especially in these days of room only bookings) was a pleasure and greatly added to our sense of having got value for money.
good value for money, ideal place to from which to explore the coast from berwick tynemouth car parking very restricted
Everything was first class. Wonderful hotel. Really enjoyed our stay.
The food, the service and the quietness of the hotel. There wasa nothing that i did not like.
Very welcoming staff, beautiful and spacious room, excellent facilities. Hotel needs to get its act together when heavy snow falls. It is in an isolated position and road access is difficult. It doesn't help though when even the access drive and car park are not cleared of snow. Full marks though to the 2 ladies on duty when I left who called in a local farmer with a tractor!
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had our 1 year old daughter with us and they did everything possible to accommodate.
The room was very large and spacious although pillows could have been more comfortable, staff were excellent. There was no vegetarian option on the menu for the restaurant until we asked if there was one available. We then decided to eat in the bar area and when we asked for nibbles like the other guests were told by the waiter "the nibbles are for restaurant guests only" - We were actually stunned!
Accomodation excellent, food good Restaurant staff were slightly less friendly - a little off hand.
Doxford Hall Hotel was excellent in all respects. The decor of the hotel was very tastefully designed, very much in character with the building and to a very high standard. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant. Restaurant was high-side price but worth it as the food was superbly cooked and presented. All hotel facilities were excellent. None !!
Bath and bed - fantastic Room was a great size with a lovely view the garden will be super in the summer beautifully restored building Fixed menu was expensive and there were no other options to choose from
Recently renovated. Owner takes a personal interest. Super chef and meal worth the money for a special occasion. Wine reasonable. Dinner menu not publicised as well as the room service menu.
I found Doxford hall to be one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in pure luxury, friendly staff and beautiful surroundings
Quality hotel. Very helpful staff. Large bedroom and bathroom. A bit short staffed at breakfast time, the 2 waitresses were rushed off their feet. Possibly due to the fact it was the Easter weekend.
Very high standard of accommodation spaciouus had character lovely garden extremely restful all requests promptyly met very welcoming host great breakfast Might be regarded by some as a bit far from other facilities
From entering the hotel we felt relaxed and made to feel very welcome. nothing was too much trouble for Michelle our host. Our room was spotless with comfortable leather sofa. water, wine and fresh milk in the fridge was also a lovely touch. Well placed for visiting the local area a superb relaxin stay.
Quiet, luxurious, very friendly and helpful staff and fabulous breakfast No
Facilities and the Quiet location.
Whole experience excellent None
Great welcome, Super service and lovely room - breakfast was marvellous! Paul and Michelle are a great couple and really looked after us. We wished we could have stayed longer! Just a minor point but the TV was a little small for size of room and viewing from the Bed was not easy.
A very high standard of accommodation - and very helpful service. A very exceptional B&B
An excellent place, well worthy of its 5-star rating
The hotel was in a superb setting with excellent views. The proprietor was very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were beautifully presented and the standard of accomodation overall was faultless. None
