The facility is great, access to sea and walkways were excellent. The music one night was too loud & lasted too long.
The view is spectacular. Breakfast buffet offers a wide variety, one of the best we've had. This hotel may have once been 4 stars but no longer. The older gentleman at the reception is a disrespectful, arrogant individual who should be fired. However, the rest of the reception staff was quite helpful. We received the room and it was clearly unclean (used towels, unemptied bathroom trash can containing filthy toilet paper, unchanged bed linens, bed side table with sticky residue if you know what I mean i.e. bring your own UV lamp). One morning, we were in the room when the cleaning ladies appeared. They basically only swept the floor. We had to ask the front desk for clean towels. The old reception guy asked the other desk clerk to deal with us because he couldn't care less. Many other negatives but no more space to write!
Layout of the resort and atmosphere were excellent, reception staff and entertainment staff very good, the location is very scenic. Lovely pools, great for children, and wonderful swimming in the cove. Enjoyed the spa and even the gym facilities. Everything was clean and well maintained. The food was not very good quality and the buffet offer was quite repetitive. Chicken wings, liver and tongue for one evening meal. Fruit at dinner limited to melon all week. We were happy to go out for dinner.
Location, location, location. It was very quiet and was very pleasant for going for a walk, staying at the pool or swimming in the deep crystal clear waters. The fact that the bed sheets are changed every other day (I assume that is not a characteristic of a 4-star (out of 5) hotel as you have rated it in your website) and the room towels every third day (unless the cleaning crew thinks they are dirty (these are the words the receptionist used)-in that case they will change them every other day. However, we requested them to be changed after staying two nights and they were changed immediately.
vVisited Plakias the staff did what they have to do and nothing more
Position, location, facilities Staff were not welcoming. We felt out of place and believe we were the only Brits there! On arrival, initially we had a few problems with the room and facilities and these were not dealt with properly. I would not recommend this hotel for a lone couple. A group may be welcome though?
repeting drainage problems trying to avoid receiving credit card no food after 21:30 and poor coffee
Location of the hotel is fabulous, isolated but of outstanding natural beauty, albeit difficult access without own transport. Children liked the animation programme in particular. It is an 80s construction which apparently has been neglected for a while, that is to say the whole complex needs a bit of refreshing. Although the variety of food was remarkable we did not approve of the higher-than-average use of tinned fruits, vegetable, and juices - especially not as this is Crete!
The room was well designed but the bathroom smelt really bad making the whole studio smell musty and mouldy. We sneezed and coughed all night
amazing place and location, very tastefully done, interesting architecture and layout of resort, swimming pools overlooking the sea and surrounded by mountains. just beautifully done in an amazing location. wish i had planned more time to stay there !!!!!
Good Pool and Location to the town / beach The budget rooms were terrible. I only stayed one night instead of the two I had booked and moved elsewhere.
It was a very nice hotel. Very very helpful staff. Very clean and great value for money.
Fabulous location and excellent value for money. The pool was magic!
The hotel looked ok but the Budget room did not worth the 70 euros. It was unacceptable!
The budget rooms are abusively advertised as being in a 3 stars hotel. Hostile management: they hold the clients' passports until the check-out to be sure they get the money, although they have the credit card details - is it legal in Greece?
Breakfast was not worth havingEveryone smokes (but this is Greece)
comfortable,silens, nice place
Situation of hotel bathroom
was very cental area, very spacious rooms the rooms very old ,not too clean, bathroom very old,bed not comfortable, breakfast poor with only orange juice and jam!
The room was actually quite nice, swimming pool rather small but clean and well maintained. The beach, shops, parking and restaurants are just a few steps from the door, so great location. Personnel is friendly and helpful, though always in a passive way rather than active. Once you ask they will try their best to help, but problems are sometimes ignored until brought to their attention. But maybe this is a general Greek thing ;) For the rest great value for money: not to expect too much, but good for what it is. Minor point is the shower that has no water screen or wall around it, flooding the bathroom time and again. There is a drain but most of the water never gets there. Breakfast is quite basic, maybe at least some variation would be good. Also the airco was not very reliable, but this might have been due to regular electricity problems on the island.
Great value for money, clean, next to the beach. All rooms have a/c and balcony. Some rooms don't have refrigerators, as advertised. Pool sometimes gets dirty and is not cleaned frequently enough. Some bathrooms don't have a separate shower and can thus get messy when showering.
The strongest point of this hotel is that located a few steps from the sea. Cleanliness is an issue for this hotel, especially the smell. A small renovation will improve a lot the total image of the hotel.
Great location, right on the beach and free sunbeds if you eat at the hotel (just an omelette or breakfast qualifies). Also pool available, with free sunbeds. All a bit tired and shabby, but for the price no real complaints. If you want tea/coffee you need to bring your own travel kettle, and ice bags/tray for the fridge.
It was just what I wanted, right by the beach and the room had a balcony looking over the sea. The room was spacious with a spacious bathroom. The hotel is clean and has a swimming pool and a pleasant snack bar. Excellent value for money.
swimming pool. Near the beach just to sleep
We enjoyed the central, but quiet location. It was not easy to park the car in front of the hotel, we had to park on the seafront (very close, though)
Nice Hotel, very clean, very quiet.A nice place for someone how wants to relax.Easy access to the beach,to the taverns and the stores. The breakfast was good. The staff was very nice and kind. The room wasn't ready by the time we got there (about 14:10) but some time later.
Welcomed by Costas the owner. Rooms very clean, modern, comfortable and quiet even though overlooking the street.Good buffet breakfast. Very convenient location. Friendly and helpful staff. A very good experience staying here.
Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of the town and surrounding areas. They recommended a fantastic resturant ("Gio-Ma") which we went to every night, it was that good! Room was very large, comfortable, clean and newly renovated with a small balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast is included in the price and is excellent with a selection of meats, fruit, cheese, bread and spreads, eggs, juices and coffee. We would definitely stay here again! Bathroom had a strange smell but we realised this was a common feature of many Crete hotels and not specific to Hotel Sofia.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, but mostly we liked the friendly staff, which made us feel comfortable, the breakfast terrace, and the location- Plakias- nice place to have a rest.
is a thing only:the breckfast as is including in price, need more variaty food, maybe omlette and fruits
we loved the location, right on the beach with the most amazing sunsets. also it was close enough that you could walk in to the town to the restaurants. the room was very comfortable and the staff very helpful breakfast was very good. the bed could have been a little softer
Very nice place, run by a family. Located in a beautiful place. Stuff is friendly, good breakfast. Better to have a rented car, if you want to go somewhere and not to stay on a beach all the time.
seaview, big room, clean room, comfort location and friendly staff
We arrived at the hotel late night after driving from the airport. The hotel owner was very nice and helpful and even-tough he didn't have our type of reserved room, he suggested to upgrade our room for the first night. He gave us the family room with its Hugh balcony, and the greatest Hugh king-size bed ever. We moved to a smaller room the day after but it was in-did a nice gesture. The location of this hotel is just the best! every morning, we walked two minutes down to the beach - only two minutes!!! - which was a bit rocky, but after getting the idea on how to pass the rockiness we enjoyed it every single day! We did not reserve a room with breakfest because we guessed we will wake up after 10 O'clock. We really recommend this hotel. Well... we did not like the idea of using the same shower towels for four days, and, we did not like that the bed sheets were not changed for four days as well... We expected that we will have new set of towels and a new set of bed sheets everyday, and, we don't mind paying for it... e.g. the hotel should have such a service for lets say... 4 EUR more per day. And also, we used the coffee cups that were in the room, but, the room cleaning service didn't clean them (I washed them by myself with generic hand soup while showering). so, I think the hotel should put more effort on its cleaning staff and standards. beside that... still, its a great place for a vacation.
Beautiful hotel with good services, great breakfast and nice staff. Located near the most beautiful beaches of the south. Recommended for relax holidays and long stays.
Nice view from the room No yogurt for breakfast :-(((
Quiet area and still close to the village.
It was a very well kept hotel in a amazing location. no complaints
A very nice hotel for visiting for any reason. The beach and the center of the town is near (5-10min. walking). The stuff is very friendly and willing to hear your needs.
across the road from a beach and walking from town ok no where to get food or speak to a member of staff...the place was deserted practically all the time
very good people very nice location very good price nothing
The hospitality of the manager
There were two staff - both were extremely helpful and friendly Wireless internet advertised but not working for the whole of my ten day stay. Intenet access was an important reason for choosing this hotel.
The hotel has a very good location. The rooms had a nice sea view, and the hosts were very friendly an helpful.
Great location and views, just the right distance out of town for peace but easy walk in. Each room has large balcony overlooking the sea. Room was a bit tired (especially bathroom) but everything worked. Friendly staff. Easy parking on roadway in front of hotel. Great value.
hotel staff rude and un-responsible,providing no customer service at all.We went for them couple time on important problems(transport, air conditioning etc),they shut door at our face said they need private time.no TV in the room, but booking says it has.120km from the airport, not 73.4 km as said on booking.hotel is placed in very small town, very inconveience transport.taxi to airport costs 90euros.
The sea view was stunning with big glass doors towards the sea. The sound of birds and sea. Nice personal. Small village 5min walk. We had an hotel all the week near Chania but we wanted to see the south side so we booked this 2 nights, it was very nice. Next time we book this hotel all the week! None. Recommended to rent a car if you come by air.
the location is very good. The owners will not treat customers really well. They called us crazy people, and we have never been treated or called like this before.
Plakias has a relatively busy end and a quiet end. The apartment was definitely in the quite end; but with easy (5 mins) of the main part. The views from the apartment are fantastic. The main veranda is great for sun bathing and the second veranda for just sitting and looking at the sea. This is not negative. I was staying with my daughter. Had I been with a wife and two children there would have been little storage space. Also the sleeping arrangement is a double bed and single in the bedroom and a sofa that converts to 2 singles in the lving room. This could be a problem with a family. The "cooker" is one main ring, one small ring and a small oven/grill. It should be appararent from the photos that there is a ramp or steps up to the ground floor and then steps to the apartment. Not suitable for the infirm or disabled.
Excellent view from balcony Facilities too basic.
Very nice room, sea view
We were allocated a family room which meant lots of space Breakfast was very poor. 1970's German 2* hotel standard.
