Pros: Outstanding service from Arjan - a superb communicator who has an amazing property (approx 600 years old) decorated and furnished to a very high standard. Nothing too much trouble for him. Remote check- in service (code to door sent by text on the day) so no problem if you arrive when he is out. Fantastic breakfast, beautifully presented. Very secure, purpose made bike storage (14 bikes in it when we stayed) and right on the Rhine cycle route.
Cons: Nothing. An outstanding place to stay and worth every Euro.

Pros: A beautifully appointed hotel close to all the points of interest in Xanten. Comfortable beds and lounge chairs welcome on a cycle tour. Secure place for bikes (not undercover). Pros: The location, friendliness of the owner, and the delicious breakfast. The breakfast was so beautifully presented that it was hard to start to eat it. It looks like a breakfast from a magazine. The variety of the breakfast items were great, too. Parking was very close to our rooms and easily accessible. This B&B is located in a very nice and quiet corner of the old city walls. Everything is at walking distance. It was perfect for our stay. Highly recommended to travelers looking for a great balance between old and modern, great service, good price, and awesome location!

There is a vast playground with fruit trees. There is unlimited parking. The breakfast buffet had an extensive choice of nice food.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Great having kitchen and garden to sit in. Coffee machine and teas available in the kitchen. Nicely organised by room number in the fridge, larder and bathroom. The cycle path goes all along the main road so it is comfortable to arrive by bike.
Cons: I was originally asked to pay €2 per bike for storage which was a surprise and not something I have encountered before. In the end I didn't have to pay this. The house is on a very busy road with not much immediately around it. There is a town 2.5km away though.
9.6 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place.
Cons: Morning I found my car full of bird excrements. Don´t park your car under tries!
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good, and the common rooms were indeed very charming and historical. The hotel is very well located in an almost pedestrian street right next to one of the historic city gates and the magnificent cathedral. The price was very good.
Cons: The "comfort single rooms" were described as having a minibar, a seating area and a view of the quiet park. In reality there was no minibar, the "seating area" was only a chair at the desk (while at the photograph on booking.com there were two armchairs and a low table where you could also imagine spending an evening reading), and while there was indeed a view of a park, there was a street between the hotel and that park which was all but quiet. When I asked for another single room which looked more like the ones on the photographs on the internet, the receptionist told me that all single rooms were like the one I had (without comfy seating area). The room would have been big enough to place an armchair, though. It turned out that the photographs on booking.com for "comfort single room" show one double and one twin room. The bar/restaurant was closed for summer holidays. The TV did not work. The days before this stay I had stayed in two- and three-star hotels, and some of them had more comfort than this one. I don't understand why this hotel has 4 stars.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The very friendly and helpful reception staff, the location , the room itself . The helpful nature ...I left behind my Mobile phone charger in the room...on my request they were kind enough to mail it to me without any charge to my wife's home in Holland.
Cons: I was quite satisfied...maybe they could offer a larger selection of pillows...

6.3 Good
Pros: Room facilities were comfortable and bed allowed perfectly restful sleep

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, modern, very close to the town centre, excellent parking.
Cons: Unfortunately a large group of ladies arrived back at the hotel at about 1.30 a.m. and sat on the terrace talking very loudly for about an hour which woke me up and kept me awake. Automatic check-in is great but without staff on site you have to rely on the politeness of fellow guests.

5.4 Okay
Pros: It was very quiet. Breakfast was good choice.
Cons: We were very disappointed to arrive after a very long cycle ride to find the shutters down and the door locked.having studied the website over and over,we were lead to believe that a good food menu was available.the hotel is in quite an isolated spot regarding food availability, particularly when a bicycle is the only form of transport.when the door was opened and we were checked in,we were informed that there is no food on Tuesdays.!!!!I can find no mention of this at all on the website.we were directed half a mile down the road to a Chinese restaurant.thank goodness that was open.all the other guests that night were also on bicycles as well. The towels and bedding had seen better days.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Big room, quite and clean, basic but functional. Restaurant was excellent value for money and very tasty food. I am on a cycling tour and they locked my bike in a secure garage for me. The breakfast was a very good quality buffet, much better than your average!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and service was excellent. The food was plentiful and delivered quickly, as was the beer. We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay and it was a joy to enjoy the beer garden on midsummers night.
Cons: Only one thing - the square pillows. Only a very small thing - everything else was great
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean room and very comfortable bed, quiet location. Excellent breakfast. Helpful pleasant staff. Safe place to store our bikes. For dinner I had half a roast chicken and chips and goulash soup to start, very nice and filling. The draught beer was good.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: We found the people very friendly & helpful. The atmosphere was very pleasant & the staff went out of their way to accomodate our needs as wife is disabled. They spoke very little english but we had no problems. Fortunalely my daughter speaks German & one of the waitresses, Eva, was Polish and spoke quite good english. The whole experience was very good indeed.
Cons: There are only two rooms on the ground floor. We had asked for a ground floor room. Unfortunately the "ground floor" rooms were down steep stairs. There were rooms on the upper floor but there was no lift. my daughter and grandson were on the floor below us. The manager did realise our problem & immediately changed our room to one on the road level. He was very nice and very friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a great place. Ticks all the boxes for the touring cyclist. Comfortable, good food, safe bike storage and quiet.
Cons: Nothing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The architecture - a bit of the Balkans in Germany. Open arcades in the restaurant (without glass windows). At the floor below, a balcony in front of all hotel rooms, fitted with armchairs and benches and overlooking a pasture with sheep a turkey and hens. The rooms were described as "simple" but had everything necessary (desk, table, chair, TV and a bathroom with shower.
Cons: Breakfast was very impersonal. The tables were not laid, and the only service person was difficult to find and did not speak German. Plates could be found at the buffet table but no cups and drinks (coffee, tea, milk). I had to ask for my coffee with milk at the bar where a few beer drinkers were sitting at the early hour. The waitress had to phone the owner to find out how to help me to my coffee with milk. What I did not like at all was the fact that the staff (the waitress was later joined by a second person) sat smoking at the breakfast table. Some other guests changed places because of that. In the restaurant (during dinner and breakfast) there was a lot of smokers and smoke around. As the nice seats were outside on the balcony this is probably permitted but very unpleasant for other guests because the balcony had a ceiling and was thus not fully open-air.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the river Rin, in a wonderful area. The rooms have nice views. Big rooms, hot water, breakfast buffet. All you can ask in a wonderful price.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff. Large, excellent value for money evening meals and drinks. Parking is easy in free car park opposite. Lovely cake shop, cafe Hagemann is about 300 metres away.
Cons: Please be aware that you may need to go up a spiral staircase. However, if you ask, this can be circumnavigated.

Pros: Cycling from Istanbul to UK and had an excellent stay here. Wonderful. Ignore the rubbish reviews....
Cons: Nothing
