Beatiful hotel and setting with friendly helpful staff with a good ambience. the weather !!
Peaceful and quiet - no noisy roads. Excellent scenery. High standard of decor.
first class professional smiling staff who went out of their way to be helpful, loved every minute,
A stunning location, a very comfortable room, good food and very friendly and helpful staff No complaints
Wonderful setting, excellent building and decor, nice friendly staff. Strange noises from plumbing. Should be more than four choices of main meal in the restaurant, although you have a reasonable choice in the bistro/bar area.
The staff were very friendly. TV was too small and had poor reception.
Overall friendliness. Food was good.
Staff were all superb, nothing was too much trouble Our room was rather noisy as it was over the bar.
Personal Service. On our last night (of three), the Chef asked us what we would like for dinner, and cooked to order. The food was excellent. The staff were all very friendly and obliging.
the location is perfect for a relaxing chill out stay, great value, food in the resturant was very good, recommended will stay again.
Both host and hostess were wonderful, friendly, lovely breakfast presentation and quality of food at breakfast, very comfortable sitting room for guests, plenty of information on what to do in the area. It could not have been better, considering the price.
Lovely old building, pleasant rooms, excellent service from the owners with tea provided on arrival, very good breakfast. No hot food served in the evenings, local pubs are a 10-15 minute walk.
Friendly hosts, good breakfast
When we arrived Coffee and Tea was waiting for us in the warm, cozy lounge. The breakfast served was the best we had on the trip and we did not have to pay additional for it. The proprietors were so helpful and courteous. They made our breakfast to order in addition to providing cereals, juices, yogurt and vegetarian varieties of their foods. I have to say, this is the best place we stayed during our five days in Northern England (stretching from Carlisle to Alnwick). We stayed in 4 star hotels and 4 star B&B''s if this provides any indication as to the wonderous quality you receive in this lodging. The bed was very hard.
The setting was perfect for our needs, in walking distance of the town of Alston. Good parking and nice to have a bar The stairs up to our room, bit too much for me now. Also would have been nice to have an evening meal in. We had to go to Alston House.
The owners made you feel very welcome and gave us lots of information about the area, places to visit, and the best places to eat out and the breakfast's were excellent.
Laura, the owner is a particularly friendly and very helpful hostess. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Access was poor for my disabled husband but they did everything they could to help and we knew this was the situation when we booked.
the real friendliness and time taken to talk and the breakfast choice bathroom a bit small and shower/water a bit slow
The house and surroundings are delightful and the owners give a very high level of attention to their guests in order to make their stay comfortable.
Warm, friendly atmosphere in a lovely location. Very nice with our young grandaughter (7) who was made to feel very welcome.
Good down to earth hospitality. Excellent beer and good food.
A nice atmosphere and staff friendly. The food was excellent. Very noisy overnight, due to boy racer on the main street, and road works started outside the hotel at 5.30am on the Saturday morning
A friendly hotel with comfortable rooms and good home cooked food. A large bar area with coal fires and an excellent range of real ales to choose from. Following a good nights sleep, the English breakfast; which is excellent, will set you up for the day.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was large and well equipped. Black gunge around bath taps and tiles and bathroom tired and unfinished. Food just average pub grub
Friendliness of staff, good food & service, village and surroundings. Short notice booking excellent value for money, dog friendly, would recommend if you want a quiet break in fantastic surroundings without paying the extortionate and over rated prices of the lake district.
Clean and comfortable hotel, staff were freindly and helpful, if a little rushed off their feet! Quite noisy into the early hours as this is a pub/hotel, but no real complaints. Good as a stopover hotel.
We stayed here three years ago and wanted to retun. Alston is a great base from which to explore the area either by walking (when its stays dry!) or by car (and not forgetting the narrow gauge train service just down the road). The hotel is momely, comfortable & good value for money, the staff are really friendly, but the icing on the cake is really the restaurant which offers a wide choice of menu, delicious food and very good value - its very popular with both visitors and locals. We hope to return again. As other visitors have said, the rooms are above the pub so it can be noisy in the evenings but we certainly weren't kept awake by this.
Friendly staff, excellent food (cooked to order breakfast was superb), clean and comfortable room. Pub was cosy with a wide selection of ales.
large room with 3 single beds - lovely and warm - hotel quiet and well run - excellent English breakfast and good choice of food in the evenings - staff friendly and helpful.Good value for money
nice spacious room
Secluded location Shower did not work, and the shower head was very dirty. room was ok but quite small.
Very good breakfast. The room described as Superior was anything but.
Quality of food was excellent but expensive. Warm and friendly welcome from staff. Quiet and peaceful location. Superior room required some TLC. Avoid room 14, no view except kitchen roof and extractor fans are very noisy. Would not go back and certainly wouldn't pay normal tariff price.
Excellent hotel, but i am pleased i was not there when a shooting party was booked in! Our visit was extremely quiet and very relaxing with an excellant meal. Perfect for our 37th wedding aniversary enroute to scotland. Had a good two day deal been available i might have stayed langer, but i know to ask about parties booked in at time of booking!
Breakfast was very good. Main Road to Hotel is worse and should be prepared ! Dinner was too expensive for what it was. Parking problems because too many people who where no guests visited the Restaurant and for Hotel Guest it was a problem to find Parking place.
i liked the grounds in which the hotel was situated, with the river running right beside the garden area. i thought it lacked the personal touches that other places i have stayed at had and i purched a king size room which simply had two single beds pushed together and felt very misslead by the picture i saw when booking the room.
The staff where excellent Room could have done with a clean and curtains over the bathroom window
Food was good, hot shower, very clean and friendly staff. as it was an Inn if you were wanting an early night that would be impossible due to customers noise levels.
friendliness of owner and staff - and the indian restaurant
Friendliness of the owner. Noisy due to the proximity of our room in relation to the rear smoking area/beer garden and the bar.
Very attentive service by staff. Good meals available. Enjoyed the breakfast. Noisy fan in bathroom
The room was huge The noise outside in the street which went on into the early hours
made to feel very welcome
The owner of the hotel was fantastic, she couldnt do enough & the breakfast was lovely :-) We did not have an ensuite in the room but we knew that when we booked it & it wasnt really a problem.
The wonderful staff, she was great with our baby boy.
Generally clean Rather scruffy
