The luxe facilities and view is amazing over the douro. True design and spa hotel with very friendly and capable staff. Missing a gym for workout
All excellent: great views, great staff, fantastic food!
the rooms have an amazing view over the river
Great setting, cool design, helpfull staff A gym/exercise room at the hotel would be good.
Room balcony with a wonderful river view. Hotel staff is kind and helpful. Spa & sauna were clean. It was difficult to find the hotel because all sign on road show only words "Hotel". We didn't know if these signs meant this hotel or not until arrival. We booked a table for dinner when we checked in however it didn't make.
Hotel design, staff, facilities, and brilliantly relaxed atmosphere. Fairly remote. Difficult if you don't have a car. The walk from the closest train station (Aregos) is 20 mins up a very steep hill. Not nice in the plus 30 degree heat. Though the hotel said they'd send a car if I'd have called. Still, would be worth noting somewhere prior to arriving. Wouldn't put me off going again though!
Mooi ruim opgezet hotel. In etages tegen de berghelling gebouw. Erg gastvrij personeel. Goede keuken.
This hotel is in a beautiful setting, right on the wateredge of the river Douro. Stunning views from the decking and balconies However, like others mention in reviews - the food was poor and unfortunately for us the breakfast was not outstanding as previously mentioned in reviews. Apart from the outstanding views the hotel was generally underwhelming.
The location at an ancient Port wine harbor and the view of the Douro from the front rooms are excellent. Direct access to the water, with mooring fingers, is great for people who like kayaking or other water sports. A nice walk in the mountains, some seven kilometers away (and six kilometers long), departing from Vila de Muros, lets you visit a nice roman bridge over the Bestança river and enjoy great views.
Fantastic view and location Inexperience staff, old looking sheets and towels, food at the restaurante well bellow expectations
Beautiful setting on the River, good for walking and water sports. Breakfast very good. Restaurant food only fair.
Breakfeast was very good. It takes a long trip to see the attractions nearby, due to the secondary routes to be slow.
Beautifully located in a stunning location right on the river, the hotel is modern and stylish. The view from the bedroom down the river was stunning. All the staff seemed to speak English. The pool was well equipped with modern chairs and sun loungers alongside the river with waterside bar. On a warm night dinner was served at tables beside the river, although the food didn't quite live up to the location. Breakfast was served in the large, elegant and modern restaurant and was an excellent continental breakfast with a large choice. A lovely hotel in a super location which we would consider staying at again for more than one night to enable us to take a boat trip from the hotel jetty and catch a train into Porto from the local station
Comfortable hotel, excellent breakfast, recommended
The staff were competent, helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was good. I think that the hotel has had a major upgrade recently. Everything was clean and it worked! Quite an easy walk from the hotel into town.
Our stay in the hotel was wonderful .....lovely room .... fabulous breakfast buffet ..... gorgeous relaxing pool. We will return for a longer stay.
Friendly personel, nice rooms, good food (menu of the day for 15€ =good and more than you can eat) and amazingly great choice of portuguese wine and Porto. Oudoor swimming pool is nice and refreshing (not cold). The hotel is difficult to find (even with GPS) but it is worth the efford. Free WiFi works OK. As frequent traveler, I think that this is the first time I have nothing to criticize about a hotel.
We found everything about this hotel wonderful, from the beautifully restored installations to the outstanding food and the friendly staff that really makes guests feel welcome. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.
A very nice and charming hotel with all nowadays facilities located in a beautiful rural environment. The renovation of the old quinta is an example how modern technology and the beauty of a traditional Portuguese house can be combined. The room and the balcony give a relaxed feeling. The dishes in the restaurant combine the traditional Portuguese dishes with modern taste. The personnel is very friendly.
Fantastic hotel, beautiful place, wonderful staff and owner, the best place we have ever visited. We would definately visit here again.
It is one of the best places we've ever stayed! Very calm and beautiful location, reaxing atmosphere, very friendly owner of the hotel. Everything is clean & tidy, the rooms are very cosy and designed with a very good taste. The breakfast is outstanding. This is a place to come back again!
Lovely setting. Very clean and spacious room. Directions to the hotel need updating to make finding the hotel easier.
The house, the landlady and the helper, the surroundings
The people running the guesthouse are very kind, accomodating. Nothing was too much for them. We felt as though we were visitors in their home and were made to feel very comfortable. The apartment we stayed in by far exceeded our expectations as its very modernly decorated and clean, and the views absolutely spectacular. Breakfast was included and was lovely as well, the pool was very clean and had wonderful views. Perfect for a few days retreat to just relax and unwind. There are beautiful places to take walks, not far from a beautiful hike up the mountain to a huge waterfall. There was a festival going on all day every day across the river. This has nothing to do with the hotel at all but I must say we were a bit annoyed that the music was played from 9am to 12 midnight and the fireworks on our last night must have lasted for 45 minutes. These started going off at 1100pm and we had to be up at 500am to drive to the airport! Apparently this festival starts in June and finishes in August! The hotel itself is kind of remote. About 5kms from a town call Cinfaes which was an alright size. This is a great spot if you are looking to relax, not if you are looking for a exciting place to go with lots of things to do.
it was short no restaurant on both evenings - kitchen said to be out of commission. Food was being served in dining room but only to Portuguese National jet-ski contestants, we were informed this food was brought in from another restaurant.
Definitely the place to be if you want to explore the mid-section of the Douro River. A very spacious place, a huge bathroom, very quiet, perfect if you are looking for a resting place Just forget about the breakfast. Choices are close to nil, and their quality is 0. No regional products, no proper scrambled eggs, no proper juices, I even got rotten (although fresh) grapes. Skip the breakfast at this hotel and get a proper breakfast at a nearby restaurant called The Gentleman
The Douro Riverside with the Bars Cool swimmingpool
Kind hotel stsff, clean, value for money No
Nice personal, clean, value for money No
the place is quiet and peacefull
Good location for Douro valley The town itself is pretty unattractive with very little in the way of bars and restaurants so not suitable for long stays at this hotel. The main disappointment was that there was not outside eating facilities as advertised - were told that this is only used for special occasions. The weather was glorious so it was annoying to have to eat inside. Also, the swimming pool is next to a road - screened by hedges but still noisy.
Quiet place, clean hotel, for the service very good value, friendly personal
Very nice people, very comfortable room, nice and quiet, beautiful building, Spa features in real thermal facilities. Huge breakfast in bedroom for a very reasonable fee. Excellent value for money ratio The room was quite cold, was adjusted in reception, when asked it was tuned to a nice temperature. The construction works on a independent building in the estate gave not such a nice surroundings to the hotel.
Q: What did you like during your stay? A: Not very much! 1. The room was very sparsely furnished and the bed made a loud creak everytime we moved! 2. There is a real problem with the drains. They stink! 3.The food served at lunch & dinner was very disappointing. "Quantity, not Quality" seems to be the motto here. Having had a very poor and badly served lunch comprising lukewarm soup, soggy fried fish with par-bolied rice (no vegetables or salad to be seen) we were reluctant to try the dinner but in the rather charmless village of São Vicente, there is very little alternative for dining out - other than cafés & Pizzerias - so we reluctantly stayed for an evening meal. It was worse than lunch (altho the waiter was more sympathetic than his lunchtime colleague) & mostly inedible & was sent back.
Excellent Staff, Food, Log Fire, We struggled to find the hotel and the owners drove for 20 minutes to the village where we were to guide us to the hotel. Location is brilliant although very remote. Can't think of any.!!
The friendship of the owners. We feel like to be in family. It was nice not to need watch TV or internet.
Absolutely amazing place!!! Beautiful house, great landscape, interesting possiblities for hiking. The owner is an artist, and everything in the house is creative - from paintings and ceramics to breakfasts!!! The owner also spent a lot of time discussing with us about life, art, litterature, everything, it was a great opportunity to know better people from Portugal.
Location, the surprising way in which the house was build, nice cooking, delicious breakfast with homemade cakes. Very nice landlady, makes you feel at home in an instant. Maybe a bit hard to locate. Ask for directions and a simple map at tourist I in Cinfaes
The Antiques, the Art, splendid views and the welcoming hospitality
