9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location, the room, the nature and Sanders hospitality.
Cons: Nothing actually
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and luxurious room, beautiful location on a beautiful estate park. Owners are very nice and think along. Take the time to help and think along with your plans. The breakfast was excellent. Everything in the rooms was thought out and correct. Super clean. Absolutely recommended! Now we had booked everything in advance and we did not know how fantastic this location was. Otherwise we would certainly have stayed longer Unfortunately, that was not possible due to our program. Tip for future travelers: We would have liked to stay here for a few nights because of the relaxed atmosphere and the beautiful surroundings. Also a lot of sights at a short distance! (panorama route, rehabilitation centers, shopping centers)
Cons: We should have stayed longer.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: * Location: in a closed and safe estate with wild animals roaming around. Driving or walking around is great. Very cool! * Sander, the host, was extremely helpful, informative, and helpful. His relaxed attitude is soothing. * The room was spacious and well-equipped, including safety deposit box, nice balcony, nice decor, mosquito net, and spacious showers. The pool also looked nice (too cold to swin at that time). * Dinner (pay extra) was a great braai buffet. Recommended. * Breakfast was nice.
Cons: * Rooms are quite dark. * The shower was a bit hard to handle. * Bed was okay, yet the pillows were not comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a small bed and breakfast type experience with 4 very nicely appointed private rooms with baths. The owners cook you an excellent breakfast and gladly take you to dinner in the town and share their experiences living in South Africa for the last 20 years. The owners are a couple originally from Holland...very nice people! The lodge is immaculate and very well appointed with a great outside space for eating, pool for swimming, fire pit for evening drinks, etc. The lodge is in a wildlife estate...it is a "neighborhood" with large lots and paved roads then has dirt, bush roads you can explore in your car to see all the wildlife that does not just stroll by the pool. :) There zebra, giraffe, warthogs, all types of antelope, porcupine, etc....and a leapard on site. We were there just after the mating season so there were little ones running around everywhere....including lots of birds...kingfishers, rollers, hornbills, ibis, etc. The location is great because even though you are among the wildlife, the roads are all paved and you are literally 5 minutes from town (fuel, restaurants, shopping, and the airport. You are also very close to the Kruger gate.
Cons: The place was excellent, but this is not "in the bush, roughing it, safari" type experience. So if you are looking for that, go into the park or sabi sands (where we stayed for a couple of days at Umkumbe lodge. Loved both experiences!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners and excellent local knowledge. Superb meal provided in the evening, on request. It’s a braai. We had ostrich steak, beef, chicken, fish, kudu and lovely dishes to accompany. They so kindly bought me gluten free bread for breakfast. Lovely pool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: good facilities, well decorated and comfortable room! Sander's BBQ was wonderful, one of the best meats I've ever eaten, it's worth it! the breakfast is also complete and tasty! a great lodging option in Hoedspruit
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There were free bikes that we road around the neighborhood and saw zebras, giraffes, deer, and warthogs. Such a great location! The owner is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very well decorated and stocked with everything you need. The owner has obviously thought about every detail of the room and property. It was amazing. And such a great price for what you get. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed the cheap, good local beers.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice people, very friendly and helpful. The lodge and is nice with a great pool. We really enjoyed the BBQs both evenings we have been there!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had the most fabulous time at this lodge. Sander and Juliet have created a wonderful setting with a warm and gentile atmosphere. True luxury is not about fluffy towels and butlers, more about kind and genuine hosts ensuring their guests relax and have everything that they need in a very comfortable environment. These hosts appear to get it just right effortlessly but I’m sure a lot of hard work goes into making a perfect lodge, thank you so much.

4.2 Okay
Pros: The staff were very friendly and the food was good. We were able to be served breakfast and dinner in our own villa, without having to go to the central area, but see below. This service was not available for lunch.
Cons: The management appeared haphazard and inefficient, though was trying hard. In booking a villa we’d expected that we would be on our own. We were shocked to find that we had a single wing of the villa, and were sharing common facilities with three sets of other guests. This should have been made clear in advance. The quality of the facilities, though not a problem were at a 3/4 star standard versus the expected 4/5 star.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything - superior service from everyone, excellent food, great rooms and fun tours. It was perfect, and highly recommended!
7.9 Good
Cons: For the price you pay, I expected much better food. And the restrictions they make on your schedule. You dont feel like you are relaxing. You cannot eat when you want.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excelent option. All well designed and distributed, very close to the airport.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Guided game drives were amazing, we were able to see all big 5 quite easily, breakfast was very good, rooms were very big and clean, trackers and ranger were very experienced and effective in finding animals
Cons: Quite expensive, food was good but not amazing, extra anti-fly protection could be used for breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We get a lot more that what we expected ! Excellent game drives, nice staff and very good and nice spa.
Cons: The pool is very cold
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved Kapama and really enjoyed our stay. Our ranger and tracker (Freedom and Noel) were amazing and made sure that we saw all the animals we wanted, including the big five (more than once) and more! We saw three different groups of lions, including one with 3 baby cubs, which was incredible!!! The hotel in itself is amazing as well. It is beautiful and the rooms are extremely nice. We stayed in a Spa suite and really enjoyed the tub after the safaris. We also got a massage at their spa, which was great as well and it has an amazing view. Finally, the service is really good. Everyone was so nice and attentive. I especially want to thank the staff for being so helpful when we forgot one of our phones in the safari jeep: they got it back to us so fast.
Cons: Nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff is super friendly. The food is good. The safaris were perfect. We saw all big five in our fist 3 safaris. The view from the room is awesome. We could see some animals like giraffe from our room/bathroom.
Cons: The food is served in a buffet though. They don’t offer iron for your own use, so you need to pay their iron services, that don’t work all day (I requested a iron service after the afternoon safari for a piece of clothes that I would wear in the next day morning safari, and they informed me that they didn’t have iron services during the evening). The room and bathroom are smaller than in the photos (maybe because it depends on the type of the room).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food, Safari and the Spa
Cons: We enjoyed everything about the lodge...beuty at its best. The spa is excellent, the food is 5*. I loved everything.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Nyaleti Lodge! It was a perfect ending to our safari trip at Kruger. On arrival Ann offered us a free upgrade in the new units. The rooms were beautiful, spacious and clean. We particularly enjoyed the bush shower. No issues with security as the lodge is located within a larger estate protected by security. Breakfast was delicious. We only wish we stayed one more night to fully enjoy the facilities.Thank you again for a wonderful stay!
Cons: Nothing! Loved our stay here, would recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for two nights at the lodge, in a double room. The accomodation is very small (just a few rooms available) and therefore feels more personal than a big hotel. The accomodation feels new, is very clean and everything just perfect. It was in the details, what made it perfect (bath salt, water in the fridge, fresh made breakfast and even breakfast to go for the safari day. What we did not realized is that this accommodation is located in a wildlife estate, what means that you can walk a Safari in the backyard of your cottage! How awesome! We booked a Safari in Kruger National Park via the accommodation and this was as perfect as our stay. Very friendly ranger that told us a lot, showed us many animals. Everything together, our best stay in our whole South Africa trip!
Cons: Nothing! Loved everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Marlon is specialist in cooking eggs!
Cons: Everything state of the art. Only the living room should have a dimmer for the lights. But management said they will do so.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Is very VERY Clean you’ll feel like you the first guest to ever use it, the property is located at a very secured lodge, very modern and everything was well thought out. The hosts are genuinely amazing I honestly can’t fault anything here. Nobody can fault the place at all.
Cons: Everything in this property is so well thought of, I loved everything true value for your money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at Nyaleti for a week and it was a fantastic experience. Lovely homemade breakfast outside, some animal sights right in front of the chalet and the hosts did their absolute best to make the most of our stay also by helping to arrange transfers and activities as well. BIG THANK YOU. We will definitely be back! :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: First time and gladly again !! super private and small property with love and detailed attention. Very modern and luxurious equipped and furnished. This complex is located in a wildlife park, very safe and secluded. You can wake up here in the morning with zebras and frequently greets the bush pig on your own terrace! ..and the breakfast ..you will love the breakfast. Perfect for day trips to the Kruger or the Blyde River Canyon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is amazing, discreet and so quite ..the owners are so friendly and welcoming. The hotel is so beautifully decorated..clean and smells so fresh. I cannot think of a better hotel to have celebrated my anniversary.love it

Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge - Hoedspruit - Building
6
9.6 Excellent (120 reviews)

A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The facilities, room, staff, food and game drives were all extraordinary. It was very good value.
Cons: I personally found the bed somewhat uncomfortable, however my family did not have any issue. Bring a good rain pancho, because theirs are nylon and not completely effective if it rains during a game drive.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff, superb game drives, good food!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was dry season when we where there and the Lodge provided a lovely oasis of greenery to sit and relax in the garden watching the odd buffalo or warthog test out the fencing! The sleeping accommodation was large and comfortable and the outside shower was, well... a little different. The evening meal taken with the other guests was an enjoyable affair and breakfast was a thorough mix with the usual offerings. They're got the game drives off to a tee. We liked the fact we kept the same ranger/driver for all the drives so we didn't go down the same routes again and again - and the ranger sought out species we'd not yet seen. I felt they try to group guests with the same arrival dates as well for the same reasons. A nice touch. So was it worth it? Well, leaving aside the comfort factor - we got to see 4 of the 'big 5' - close up. By that I mean within a few feet - a male lion was more or less by the wheels chewing his way through an Impala snack. No Elephants on our drives - but we did miss the last one (airport beckoned). We had a Ford Ecosport and I wouldn't have liked to have driven the 7km track to the lodge in anything less robust. Not a problem - just something to be aware of.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Our stay was perfect. Special thanks to our great guides Sam and Richard who did everything to give us the ultimate Safari experience including the big 5!
Cons: Nothing - everything was great
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The food has a strangely familiar 80s dinner party vibe that I love and is cooked really really well. The drives were great and we saw so much. If you have a few days for a safari then I can't say strongly enough that Mohlabetsi and the Balule are a great choice.
Cons: It doesn't feel as bush as some but this was my second visit in 4 months so not much I don't like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Every meal was lovely. We ate out, looking over the reserve, under the stars, accompanied by the Rangers who shared great stories with us all. The staff were extremely helpful and looked after us really well. Rooms were plenty big enough and had all you needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Our room had views out over the reserve. The afternoon dip in the pool was an added bonus, but all in all, a great place to spend a few days if you get a chance. Oh, and by the way, the game drives, Rangers and Trackers were awesome. Top marks all round for a fantastic lodge. I can see why a number of guests we met return again and again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is superb, the hosts are wonderfull.
Cons: You have to be lucky to spot one of the big five.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location in the bush with elephants, various species of buck, warthog and other wildlife almost constantly in sight on the river bank . The accommodations are excellent and very suitable for large families, and both management and staff are extremely attentive. Meals are a slendid affair.
Cons: Our experience could not have been improved upon
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place, especially if one needs a break from the city buzz and lovers of nature
Cons: The place could do with air conditioning, especially during the hot season
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is absolutely great. The view on the river is amazing. Staff was really kind with us. We were only 3 so the house was really big for us. My daughter enjoyed the food prepared for the dinner. It’s a pleasure to see the wildlife directly from the house.
Cons: Our bed was not so comfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spacious (Hippo) cottage, very well equipped, comfortably furnished, immaculate housekeeeping, superb outdoor areas both for relaxation (sunbeds, pool, deck chairs, table, shade), dining and braaing (boma). gorgeous views over the river. excellent meals (do NOT hesitate to book catered option), very tasty with excellent presentation. great privacy. peace. TOP birdwatching. TOP guides for game drives and bush walks on site. wonderful hosts/staff. friendly and 100% helpful at all times while respecting wish for total privacy. this is a truly wonderful place. we were here for a short rest (and clean up!) between longer stays in KNP and we would recommend anyone to combine a few days in the park with a stay in this lovely nature reserve. really worth staying for several days. many thanks to all at ximongwe....we´ll be back (IF you´ll have us?)
Cons: bed a little soft for my taste (am a large, "traditionally" built lady and sleep on a rock hard bed at home) but thankfully tastes differ and it may well be just perfect for you!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Hippo Cottage is amazing. The hosts were super welcoming and very helpful during our stay. The house itself is beautiful. It's spacious, beautifully decorated, well equipped ( the kitchen has absolutely everything you'd need ) and comfortable. There are two private decks, one off the front and one off the side with a nice table, sun chairs, shade and a dipping pool. Lovely BBQ area as well. The view of the river is fantastic too. Lots to see.
Cons: Unfortunately, the windows couldn't be left open for a breeze because of the monkeys. While there were fans in all of the bedrooms and living room, air con would be nice for when it's super hot like it was when we were there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ximongwe Safari's - Hippo Cottage A beautiful 5 bedroom home on the banks of the Oliphants River located on the Balule Reserve with Hoedspruit being the nearest town is where we found ourselves for a six night stay in January 2018. The location is superb for any activities that interest you whether it is sitting on a deck with the river flowing by in front of you with Hippo getting quite vocal 50m away, in full sight of the antics of the monkey population entertaining one mere meters away. Antelope come to the water to drink at various times during the day and while a huge crocodile eyes them from the river they still manage to keep a safe distance. Bird life is in abundance. At night the whoop whoop of a hyena can be heard as well as the early morning barking of a troop of baboons close by. Some of them being more curious than the others can lead to closer encounters which are not ideal, yet very exciting. There is about an hours drive to the gate from Hippo Cottage to leave the reserve and you will experience sightings giraffe, waterbuck, impala, zebra, bushbuck to name but a few. We were fortunate enough to see a leopard and on two occasions elephants. Private game drives on the reserve are not permitted which we didn't know beforehand and were disappointed to find out. The cottage is very well equipped and everything is in working order. It is serviced daily. There are two full bathrooms which is ample for a bigger crowd. One has the choice of dining on the deck or indoors and the boma outside is equipped with everything needed for a braai. The kitchen is huge and whipping up a meal with two thermofan ovens and a gas/electric hob combination is a pleasure. Extra dishtowels in the kitchen are needed to wipe up those unexpected spills, so bring your own. Bedding is crisp and clean and the towels provided for bathing and swimming are good quality and soft and fluffy.
Cons: Loved everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was fabulous - great location, great house with lots of space and astonishing balcony and terrace over the river, the food was fantastic, and we really enjoyed the very knowledgable guiding on the river cruise (highly recommended particularly for people who like to watch birds, but we also saw buffalo, giraffes, crocodiles, and lions...) as well as the game drive - you get quite close to elephants and can watch them tear out trees, and we watched some jackal pups directly next to the car. Super

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent stay - The staff is courteous, welcoming, kind and professional. Everyone who works there plays their part and makes you feel welcomed. The food was great, views are perfect and the total experience was everything we hoped for and more.
Cons: There could be an investment to sound-proof the room we got and our neighbors. It wasn’t bad, just a small snag.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I’ll start with the watering hole. What a gem of a place. Both days were saw activity there right in front of us. You don’t have to move from the sun loungers it’s that good! Staff are excellent and happy to help out where they can. Room was good, but the bathroom was rather small and no bath :( Good onsite Rhino rehabilitation centre to show what good work goes on thanks to this charity. Complimentary laundry was a god send. Chef created some incredible food! That and the backdrop meant it was a perfect setting for couples.
Cons: Hornet in the bed, somehow got through the mosquito netting. Also in our room it looked straight out onto the arrival path and car park so curtains needed to be closed after a shower etc and had to stay closed on wake up before we got dressed- spoils the tea in bed looking at the view.

Cons: The only thing we didnt like was that everyone is forced to eat together in the same table. In my case i went there for my honeymoon, we just wanted to be able to talk and eat together without having to share lunch/dinner with the other guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we contacted Justine to make an enquiry to our smooth checkout with Chantelle, everything was perfect. Our guide Jani and tracker Agi were very knowledgeable, skilful and entertaining and we saw a herd of elephants, cheetahs, lions, rhinos, giraffes, hippos, crocodile, zebra, kudu, nayala, impala, vultures and many different birds - a truly awesome experience. We were served delicious food prepared by Rose and received excellent service from Chris and Clive. The rooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean and the facilities were excellent. We were even visited by a thirsty impala who had a drink from our hot tub!!

Pros: Coleen and Shaun have been excellent owners! I felt at home in a lovely garden with sparkling pool and was asked one night to have a meal with them. The two dogs are well taken care of, disciplined, no nuisance and kept at one side - since I'm an animal lover, I asked them to bring the dogs to the garden. From my bedroom I had a lovely scenic view into the African bush, where I had my morning coffee under a tree. Warthogs and various bush came to visit daily. The bedroom air-con has an inverter, therefore hardly any noise. Ceiling fan equally 'gentle to the ear'! These amenities helped against the heat one can expect in Hoedspruit. Thanks for not having a TV in the room .... the night sounds of animals, night jars and owls as well as the calling of birds by day are the reasons one comes to the bush - the sound of silence! A trip to the Graskop Gorge [lift company] was the highlight of our stay. I cannot fault the owners in anything. Thanks for an unforgettable ten days!

Pros: It’s a quiet place, perfect to chill surrounded by wildlife. You will get the chance to see lots of animals in the garden, from imapalas and monkeys to elephants!!!
Cons: The road to the lodge it’s not in the best conditions and even though it’s only 15 km away, it can take you about 40 min to get to the main antrance of the reserve.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is next to perfect in every way. The hosts go out of their way to make everything completely effortless and comfortable. The elephants in the garden made it special. The wildlife and birds next to the river are mesmerizing. The river location magical and the food was amazing. This is a place to come to relax and unwind. It’s small yet large enough to do your own thing and not be disturbed. The pool is perfect. The hosts, Riana and Ane are diamonds who couldn’t do enough to make our Christmas break one of the best ever. Living in South Africa, we would rate this as one of the best lodges that we’ve stayed in. We are definitely planning another trip here. Bonus we saw giraffes and zebras as we left.
Cons: There is nothing that we didn’t like.

Cons: Everything perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely magnificent. Kim and Sander are so lovely and kind hosts and overall most interesting to talk to. The lodge is right on the river and you can spend the whole day watching animals passing by in the garden and on the river. Kim is also an amazingly talented chef...every evening was like heaven on our plates. And for me it was just a once in a lifetime experience because Kim knows about gluten and lactose intolerance and she prepared so many nice dishes for me. They also arranged a game drive where we saw 4 lions just next to the car. This continued under water because both recommended the best dive spot in South Africa. Thx so much and good luck with your new project, the Bare Feet Retreat. We will come back.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great hosts and an unbelievable setting. Could sit watching the river all day. Food was also very tasty and large portions of top quality home cooked meals.
Cons: Facilities are definitely more worn and tired than you expect from photos and social media. Cost touch on the high side.
7.1 Good
Cons: small room with standard comfort

Pros: We loved the location, the staff, the lodges, and ofcourse the pool. Its really close to Kruger (30 minute drive or so to Orpen Gate). The housekeeping was on point, and the outdoor shower is amazing (although showering with some deer watching you takes some getting used to haha). Simply an amazing stay and a firm recommendation for anyone wanting a lodge close to Kruger. 10/10

Pros: Everything was excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was excellent and the hotel it-self was much better in the reality than on the pictures. Very calm, modern and fresh design and the food worth a Michelin star. The Safari experience with amazing Rangers who explains every single detail about the animals and how they track them, just don't hesitate to ask questions, they are more than happy to answer to you. As well go feed the elephants, it is an overwhelming feeling.
Cons: Only one little detail. When you arrive at the airport at the hottest hour and the hotel sends an open car to pick you up. 30 min under the strongest sun weren't that pleasant. So be ready and get a hat out of your suitcase in advance.

Pros: The whole villa was amazing and close located to some restaurants. The breakfast was great and dinner was delicious.
Cons: Unfortunately the personal is not well informed about the timings and prices of the offered safaris. Please check the pick up time more often that you will not miss any safari. Moreover we have recognized that a safari was missing on the bill and told this the manager. The manager charged us the full price of the missing safari plus an extra fee. On top, the manager could not say goodbye to us - very sad as the villa is very nice.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thornhill Safari Lodge offers a real experience related to the Kruger park and the wildlife. The whole lodge is created around nature and the private reserve. You eat in the evening around a table with all residents on a cosy and enjoyable atmosphere. Food is excellent. Great breakfast also. Bar is a place to be with excellent cocktails and a barman who does an excellent job in listening to the customers. The organisation of the game drive to the Krueger is a must have. Our guide was absolutely excellent and we got an amazng journey with him. Don't miss sunset at the obervation deck. It is just stunning. The staff helped a lot and they even helped me in preparing my journey for the next days in South Africa.
Cons: There could be more food on the plate and portions are for average eaters only. The guy for the morning tour is a bit confusing in his explainations. He is trying to be funny but tries too much.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was an incredible experience to sleep inside the bush between the animales. We arrived just in time to see the sunset and the staff told us to hurry up in order to see it from a little wood tower: it was fantastic, one of the most incredible emotion i have felt in my life (but it was my firt time in a safari tour). The staff was so kind and helpful. Is not so close to the gate of he kruger but the street to arrive and trip (in general) was part of the lodge experience. Thanks a lot for everything.
Cons: Just a little bit far from the kruger gate but if you want they could provide you some beatiful safari or other activities.
