Pros: We were looking to stay in nor near to Bagnoles de l'orne for one night. This exceeded all of our expectations. Our accommodation was spacious, stylish, spotless, beautiful furnished and finished off with delightful touches, just awaiting to be discovered. The king sized bed was made up with inviting French linen, which both guaranteed and delivered a good night's sleep. The breakfast was, first a feast for the eyes, the table set with crisp white linen and elegant tableware in a stylish dining room. Secondly, breakfast was delicious. Warm brioche French toast, beautifully fresh pain au raisin, local yoghurt, home made conserves and warm multi grain baguette. Fruit juice and freshly made hot drinks of our choice.
Cons: That our commitments meant that we could only stay for one night.

Pros: Outstanding B&B, very friendly welcome. Stunning house and beautiful views. Highly recommended.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location surrounded by countryside yet only a few minutes from the town. The house is full of character and beautifully furnished and cared for and on a cold, stormy early June evening the blazing log fire that greeted me was more than welcome. Victoria and Richard, the hosts, are so warm and welcoming. Delicious breakfast too.
Cons: Water pressure in the shower wasn't great though given the age of the building was perhaps to be expected.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant breakfast, and truly lovely hosts, even helping with my bike. The bed was so delightfully comfy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A stunning building with superb facilities. Every room unique and stocked with the best quality furnishings etc. Friendly, warm and attentive hosts. Outstanding food and service. Gardens and property immaculate in every respect.

Pros: Our charming hosts, Victoria and Richard, were incredibly welcoming. They made sure we were happy with everything and gave us lots of local information. Our room at the top of the house was just amazing! Fabulous views across the countryside. We also had use of the comfy lounge. The medieval town of Domfront is fascinating with its old castle and good restaurants. Lots of interesting local towns and pretty villages. The Voie Verte cycle way along an old railway line was great fun but a bit hard work getting to it! Really need to go back for another visit as far too much to do in just four days.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is what every B&B dreams to be. The house is incredibly charming, the owners make you feel at home and the rooms are large, confortable and have an air of rustic luxury. So are the bathrooms. Everything very clean and homely decorated. Excelent breakfast!

9.6 Excellent (101 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Château de la Chasse-Guerre in Hardanges, you'll be 14 minutes by car from Jublains Roman Village. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Words fail me - an enchanting rustic rural French B&B in an amazing location. The owners are fantastically friendly and helpful. The property is charming, an ongoing restoration project, and a genuine slice of history. Breakfast was terrific, all of the guests sitting together at the large dining table and enjoying the home made yoghurt, jams, honey, bread, rice pudding (yes - rice pudding for breakfast, excellent!) and lovely strong coffee. This is a great location for families. The owners have an amazing family room (for their children & grandchildren) that has quirky beds and is stuffed full of books, games and kid's toys. This is one B&B where you won't be constantly hovering over your children to make sure they don't break anything. Our children (9yrs and 11yrs) were delighted by the peacocks, the ruins, the moat, the cat (and the mouse it caught). We had our bikes with us, and spent a lovely time riding from the Chateau to a nearby village along the nearby cycle route (old railway track, flat & no traffic) for a bite of lunch,
Cons: The only thing we didn't like was having to leave. We can't wait for an excuse to come back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, Blandine provided home-made bread, jam and yoghourt as well as fresh fruit, it was all of highest quality and beautifully served. Blandine is a charming and energetic host who made us totally at home. She has interesting information about the Chateau and its past owners. The location is very peaceful and the old Chateau has a variety of architecture and remains from various periods, possibly even Roman although this remains to be established. The peacocks add to the ambience. For those who prefer to speak English Blandine's command of the language is exceptional.
Cons: Nothing, we would have stayed longer if it had been possible.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Such a friendly and welcoming host. Very pleasant company and went above and beyond your usual service to get up and make breakfast for me at 4.30 in the morning so I could make my ferry crossing in time. Such a tranquil setting. Great place to unwind.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners are totally charming, and the food far exceeded our expectations - almost everything was homemade, from locally sourced ingredients, and totally delicious. The raisin buns, still hot from the oven as part of the breakfast feast, will stay in my memory particularly.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved it! The hospitality of hosts was over the moon, very authentic castle which is 600 years old. There is a family of peacocks at the property, which gives it a little extra special feeling, home baked bread for breakfast, large library, charming living room with piano. So much better experience than chain hotels. A little gem in Normandie!
Cons: The only thing that was missing - lock on the door. Even though it is an old building with separate bedrooms and remote private location, you feel safe, I would feel better if I could lock the door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Blandine and Daniel were amazing people we felt truly lucky to meet, your hospitality was absolutely amazing even lending us your car when we had a puncture, the amount of quality work you have got through during the renovation of the property is an inspiration to us all, the home cooking by Blandine and having evening dinner with our hosts was a fantastic experience, we will be back, Thanks

Pros: It was an amazing experience to stay in such a medieval chateau , the hospitality is outstanding and the food and wine sublime . We had a great nights sleep and the best freshest breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is an historic and interesting property sympathetically refurbished through the vision and determination our hosts Blondine and Daniel. Our room was comfortable and a good breakfast of local produce was included. The location was convenient for an overnight stop when traveling to the Chanel ports

9.5 Excellent
Pros: As a family we absolutely loved La Corbonniere, the location was beautiful, our young boys were thrilled with the outdoor space and all the animals to look at. Breakfast was great, local produce, served with a smile! The accommodation was beautiful, spacious rooms and a great family bathroom and the peace and quiet was exceptional.
Cons: The only thing we felt lacked was the opportunity to be a bit more 'self catering' so we could have more easily made sandwiches and whatnot for day trips, but that really is a small niggle and we would definitely return.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: spacious, very clean quiet and dark just what we wanted continental breakfast with real coffee this was one of our better nights out of 10 when driving through France this September will most certainly spend a few more nights here in the future . 1 more thing guys if you are like me and don't stop in dog friendly places I smell a dog a mile away then this is the place for you the owners had a dog I spotted it never came near me but believe me no dog had stepped a foot in the accommodation . jimmi south wales

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy bed. large rooms. Very clean and quiet.
Cons: Maybe a chair in the room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The setting is stunning. The old buildings have been beautifully renovated and very tastefully decorated. The room we had was extremely spacious and comfortable. The owner is very friendly. The breakfast was excellent and we had a choice of eating inside or outside.
Cons: The Auberge is in the middle of nowhere but, as it is a restaurant too, we expected to be able to have an evening meal. We arrived there having driven 650 Km from further south and were looking forward to a cool drink and then a meal. Much to our dismay we discovered that meals are only provided at the weekend. There was nowhere to even get a cold drink! Having driven all that way we then had to drive 13 Km into Bagnoles-de-l'Orne to have a beer and a meal! We were extremely disappointed and would warn anyone going midweek to take their own food or be prepared to drive 13km! Also, with the rooms being in the roof space and only having a Velux window, they get very hot. No aircon or fans are provided.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Overall very nice hotel
Cons: Breakfast could have more choice. Slightly basic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing, brilliant host, brilliant B&B, stylish, quiet, loved the chickens and goats, small but plentiful selection for breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble. Arrived very late due to car trouble, was still greeted warmly. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The warmth of the welcome, the quality of the breakfast, the character of the property, the location in the old town of Domfront...
Cons: The room was a little noisy as a result of being first floor at the front, with the property fronting onto a steep road, however the convenience of the location and the far reaching views (even from in bed!) far outweighed this
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The B&B is immaculate. The house is beautiful. The view from the room is amazing. The host is great and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed our stay very much and would do it again. It was a great experience in a great house, great host and a great town.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Christine and the staff all lovely and helpful. The towels very soft and fluffy and better than those in the 4 star hotel where I stayed next. The shower delivered fast hot water straight away. The rooms are very clean but they are simply furnished and practical. No tv in the bedroom but one in the salon. Breakfasts good value and kitchen available to cook your own evening meal. St Denis au Gastines has a few shops and small supermarket.
Cons: Nothing negative - the Chateau Du Bourg is clean, very crisp and clean bed linen and towels, it is plain and simple and great value for money. Hot water hot and shower excellent.

Pros: Clean, clean, clean. Comfortable bed. Good French breakfast at a time of our choice. Friendly staff. Easy parking.
Cons: One 7 gram body wash sachet per person is not enough for a shower before going out and a shower in the morning. No soap to wash hands after using the toilet. Towels worn. (Out of season, restaurants are likely to be closed. Be prepared to travel 9 km and preferably get in by 19:00)

Pros: Alain & Isabelle were the best and most lovely hosts ever! Their castle is pretty remarkable for its history, art and culture. Upon request, they prepared a wonderful home-made dinner of pheasant terrine, scallops and the best creme brûlée. Breakfast was marvellous too. They made us feel like family and new friends. We hope to be back soon! Tip: Use Google maps as Waze brought us behind the chateau into the woods instead of to the entrance.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: One of the absolute highlights of my latest trip to France! Alain and Isabelle are gracious, welcoming, effortless hosts. A stay here is much more like being a house guest than being in a hotel, and as such it's a beautiful window into French life and hospitality. We arrived in the evening, were showed to our room and welcomed down for aperitifs in the "small room" which turned out to be a cozy reception room where we met the other guests and were served a little tartiflette and champagne before being invited through to the candle lit, wood paneled dining room with places set ready for guests and hosts around a large table. Dinner was spectacular: Pate, ham and bread, followed by ratatouille, glazed ham and vegetables. All served with wine to suit, of course. A little cheese to follow, then a parfait dessert with a delicious berry coulis. It wasn't fancy or pretentious; it was just great food in an idyllic setting with good company. Breakfast was similarly lovely, with the typical continental choice. In the morning we were treated to a tour of the grounds, which included a visit to their 400 year old magic tree which has a face if you look hard. Legend has it if you touch him, close your eyes and make a wish, he will lend you his energy and give you good fortune in achieving what you wished for. The stables are worth seeing - a stunning three story building in itself - where they keep a couple of friendly white cart horses. There's also a little Chapel with incredible acoustics where artists sometimes exhibit. We were invited to see the archive and reading rooms upstairs where documents from the construction and life of the chateau are kept; apparently its quite unusual to have so much dating back so far. The library on the first floor is gorgeous, and, of course, there's a secret passage if you look hard enough...
Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Pros: We loved the excellent hospitality & terrific authentic castle. The hostess made us a wonderfull diner dining together with us with a bottle of good red wine (She ofered to open a bottle of Champagne but we prefered good red wine). In the morning my wife was taken to a lovly tour in her organuc veg. garden. We loved evry minit in the place. We were very soprised to find the autentic decoration andautentic picture on the walls. Wonderfull.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: As soon as we arrived we were treated like family. We were treated to champagne and light bites with Alain and Isabelle and another guest. We were then brought to the beautiful dining room for a delicious home made meal accompanied by red or white wine. After dinner we were taken for a walk in the woods to see the beautiful surrounds of the chateau. In the morning after a lovely breakfast with Alain we were taken on a historic tour of the chatea. All in all an amazing experience which we would highly recommend.
Cons: Nothing that we did not like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality was very good, nothing was too much trouble, we were very well looked after. The property was amazing.

Pros: The castle was wonderful, far from villages, close to a wood, on a meadow. Alain and Isabelle were so friendly and perfect hosts. Wonderful halls and rooms, and two lovely Cocker Spaniel dogs wondering around and trying to be petted
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Chateau full of history, scenic, amazing & picturesque
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully located in tranquil grounds, this wonderful chateau offers something unique. It has all the character of a fairy tale chateau, with hosts who are incredibly friendly and relaxed. Isabel and Alain couldn’t have been better hosts, offering excellent breakfasts and wonderful evening meals which they share with you and any other guests around a huge table with wonderful conversation and food. The rooms are huge, with lovely antique furniture and give a real insight into life in a chateau. Our bedroom was glorious and enormous. The bathroom had plenty of hot water and towels. You are welcomed as friends and I would love to return.
Cons: We loved everything. Don’t expect a chateau to be pristine, with ceilings that high you may be lucky enough to see a hidden cobweb, but this is part of the charm of a real life chateau.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The place was like a fairy castle. Very ancient and kept to a high standard. Lovely scenery. Food was home made and delicious. Owners were exceptionally kind and welcoming

Pros: Wonderful food as always
Cons: Bed a little firm for me
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We have never been to this area before and were very surprised at the charm of the surrounding picturesque village and beautiful woodland area. The hotel was a great find very welcoming and lovely to have a heated pool on a 36c day. Set in a forest area the hotel is very charming with nice staff. We will definitely return.
Cons: Staff were very friendly but there was a shortage of them, so we had to go and find them for service.
6.8 Good
Pros: The setting , the gardens and the pool.
Cons: Huge very pretty bathroom but nearly useless cause no hot water. The staff did what they could to help and eventually assigned us another bathroom in another building, which was.nice but kind of defeats the purpose, of having the bathroom ensuite... The management on the other hand were merely apolegetic and did not seem to be that bothered. In a 4* hotel this is hardly understandable and we would have expected a commercial gesture. Too bad. We won t come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was in a lovely location. Beautiful room.

Cons: I found the lighting in the dining room rather bright and glaring, but this was a very minor issue after being distracted by the wonderful food.

Pros: Good breakfast. Freshly boiled eggs in the morning for breakfast. We liked the patio outside our bedroom, although the weather was so cold and wet we were only able to sit out for a short while. There was a storm raging on our arrival. We were an hour early but Gilbert, our host, made us welcome. We were able to have the central heating radiator on to warm us. The en-suite bathroom, which was screened off from the bedroom, had a large wash basin and a walk in shower. The area was very tranquil and calm.
Cons: On our arrival, there was a strong smell in the house, we realised later that this was wet washing drying over the back of the sofas. (Bad weather is not the fault of the owner). The furnishings in our huge room were sparse..

Pros: The space and freedom around the place. Lots of playing space for kids. Lots of toys and playing gear, pool etc. Large communal living and dining space for leisure etc.
Cons: I resided in the studio with my partner and 3 year old. I would recommend to place a door between the bedroom and kitchen or hang curtains in front of the kitchen window as there was too much light for the kid to fall asleep.

Pros: It was suggested to stay in the gite instead of the house because the child was teething

Pros: We had the special Dinner and it was excellent. Dining on the terrace with the magnificent view of the Lake made 14th July a very special evening.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous view over the lake at dinner. Food was good, room was clean and comfy pool and leisure facilities were nice. What more could you want.
Cons: Some information was not given. IE the deal with bath robes and the procedure at breakfast. Hence we were hunting around for cutlery and we should have taken a prepared tray. The guy was standing there and we made ourselves and room number known, but he didn't say anything. Just a small comment about non communication. The same as the bath robes we noticed many people had and wondered why we didn’t. We eventually read about the deal in the room blurb which by then we couldn't be bothered to go back and get some. Having said that, we appreciated free parking and enjoyed our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming and comfortable hotel with a superb restaurant
Cons: All was goodg
6.3 Good
Pros: The location and the pool. Breakfast had good choices.
Cons: The fact that there wasn’t a residents bar, only a bar in the Restaurant, which didn’t open until 7 pm so no chance of a pre-dinner drink. First Hotel ever where this was not possible. Also ate dinner one night during our stay and my lamb was so over cooked could not eat. Complained but was ignored.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: A warm friendly welcome. The hotel is superbly situated with beautiful views over the lake and casino with parking at the rear. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was really good and the evening meal on the terrace overlooking the lake was excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The spa facility is good, although changing rooms could be better, and towels and robes are supplied as required. A good place to stay when visiting Bagnoles.
Cons: Whilst a mini bar in the room would have been welcome there is not much to dislike about the hotel.
6.8 Good
Pros: Breakfast and friendly staff
Cons: Swimming pool, no towels at the pool bit Old fashioned

Pros: Nice, comfortable hotel and very welcoming. Well located in the pleasant French town of Maryanne within a short walk of the town centre.
Cons: I have stayed in the Mayenne locality on several occasions. Lovely town but on Sunday evening virtually everything is closed. Fortunately one bistro was open and the food was good. As with other parts of France just be aware of local opening times.

Pros: Excellent hotel and grounds, beautiful room and fabulous restaurant. We were made to feel like we were very special guests, we were thoroughly spoiled. The meal was outstanding and we’d have happily paid more because the quality was amazing. We had a G&T in the lovely garden, table service too which was a bonus.
