This is a well-executed combination of a beautifully restored old house with some cutting edge modern additions. Our (modern) room was spacious and comfortable, with interesting furniture and funky interior finishes. Crazy prices in the restaurant (we didn't eat there). The town (Ampudia) was as dead as an empty bus-shelter.
Nice room and friendly staff. Very expensive restaurant (menu of 60-80 euros per head) and virtually no other options in village.
Overall ambience & dining experience Bathroom design not totally practical
Food was over priced
Style, decor. Wireless coverage, late timing of meals
La sutuación e instalaciones en general La cena. Se debería mejorar la calidad de la comida
the hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. It was comfortable and relaxing
Reasonable location within a short walk of the centre. Clean and spacious room with armchairs and good layout in the bathroom. Only one pillow, more would have been more comfortable. To have had a seating are outside would have been nice i.e. a balcony or terrace as the hotel was quite dark inside.
difficult underground parking via a small lift. Restaurant average
Cleanliness and outstanding facility
Hotel is nice. Clean and comfortable, and it is quite new. Room with a lot of facilities Room was a little small, but it was OK for one night
Everything was good. Staff, room, service, breakfast, great car lift. We will stay here again. Directions to car park entrance should say - pull up on pavement outside hotel, go to reception & they will open the garage door.
overnight stop for the ferry at Santander
I arrived on Sunday to stay the night, however, there were no facilities whatsoever to have a meal or even a snack. This I find totally unacceptable for a 4* rated hotel. The information card in the room indicated that snacks were available 7 days a week. The breakfast was excellent. I would not recommend staying at this hotel on a Sunday.
Excellent situated, very near downtown
Private parking, allows dogs, location, (we were onward to santander for the ferry the next day) palencia is within easy driving to santander There is no food available on sunday, no breakfast on monday, although the cafe is open that adjoins the hotel
Good location near Plaza Mayor and town center. Nice room and bathroom with good central heating. Cafe/bar inside hotel premises (ground floor) and accessible from street. Helpful staff. Main line station and bus terminal 10 mins walk from hotel. Taxi rank 3 mins. Supermarket across the road. Wasn't a problem for us, but the lift is very small.
The staff were helpful and pleasant The restaurant is open only on Thurs,Fri & Sat and breakfast is not available on a Monday morning. As we stayed on a Sunday night this caused unexpected problems as in the area there seemed to be no restaurants open on a Sunday evening.
Good location. The hotel is basic but clean. Staff helpful. No mini bar in room.
The noise from traffic was disturbing.
Its centric location and friendly staff, as well as the cafeteria where they serve lovley breakfasts
The Hotel was excellent value with comfortable, clean and well presented accommodation The Charge for parking was high. although it was secure.
Convenient for Santander ferry and allow dogs. Sensibly priced restaurant with reasonable food. Not our idea of a 4 star hotel being more akin to a better budget hotel in UK, therefore seriously over-priced. Beware the free mini-bar, water and soft drinks only. The free wi-fi in the common areas was 'unavailable' although it could be provided in the room at an unreasonable cost!!!
The AC Palenicia is easy to find by road and in a good location for the city centre.
Great receptionist. Secure parking. Efficient services No
Helpful staff. Secure parking for car. No
Very helpful receptionist with good English and easy walk into the town. The room was immaculate and free soft drinks available from mini bar. On Sunday (the day we were there) the restaurant was closed but very substantial bar meals and drinks were available at reasonable prices. We would stay again.
Staff were very helpful, hotel was very clean, it is on the outskirts of Palencia with very easy access to and from. Ideal for the Santanda Ferry - 2 hour easy drive with petrol stop. Only downside was that on Sundays the dinning room is not open. You have to have a snack (Beefburger/Club sandwich etc) in the bar area. So if your intending to catch the Monday ferry back to the UK remember.
Location, location, location...Convenient access to the hotel and to the old city from the hotel. Rooms are comfortably modern. Service was very good. We enjoyed an easy dinner which - by the way - compared favorably with other experiences in the same week.. Charging for parking in the garage is inappropriate when (almost) no surface parking is available on the property.
It's a very new hotel with very good comfort. The overnightstay friday/saterday of Euro 60 for 2 personroom was in my eyes very cheap. The travel-information was ridiculously wrong; it's absolutaly necessary to improve the last stretch of the information from the highway. It tooke us 20 minutes to find the hotel with this information!!!
The hotel is conveniently located just off the motorway and parking is available. The receptionist was very helpful and the room was clean, although it overlooked waste ground at the back of the hotel. We stayed during a holiday in Spain so the restaurant was closed for dinner. Breakfast was barely average with no hot food and meat left uncovered. There is a 15 minute walk to the centre of town.
Central to Palencia within walking distance of the centre and the old town. Parking was easy. The Hotel was excellent but we failed to find a decent restaurant in the old town. The town was worth a visit.
Welcoming staff. Good breakfast pastries and coffee - good value too. Easy walk to city sights and an attractive park Tricky to find. Tricky underground parking. Most spaces suited to small cars . Most floors hard surfaces and therefore footfalls echoed.
Reception staff were friendly & helpful, despite the language barrier! The room was clean, quiet & comfortable. Breakfast was one pastry, a coffee & a glass of juice so not very good value.
We found this a good location in Transit from Santander to Portugal. Easy to find by the river and short walk over the bridge to the city centre. A three course dinner at 15 euro including wine was excellent and served by willing staff. The room was large and very comfortable, we would definitely stay here again and the secure garage parking was also a plus. Nothing at all
Chosen because of its location just off A67 Madrid-Santander - it is easy to find and a very adequate stop-over providing good value and resonable services. Immediate location is run down.
Good location overlooking river and handy for a stroll around the town. The toilet had not been properly cleaned after a previous guest had obviously suffered a stomach upset, but the receptionist provided an alternative room and apologised.
Handy next to river and town centre. Free parking on street near by. Spacious comfortable rooms. Excellent restaurant with fast, efficient service.
Highly recommendable. In a few words, accessible, safe, welcoming, clean, all the superlatives would apply.Would most positively use again. Could not find fault anywhere.
We love Palencia and the central location for the fiesta. Also the rooms are good and the breakfast is excellent. This year we also saw the matadores who were staying at the hotel!
Very good value evening meal and good breakfast Parking-seemed impossible to reserve a parking space in the very small garage
Lady at reception was very good No parking space, even though I booked
This was our second visit during August, on our way back to Santander. Not only had the hotel lobby, bars and gardens/pool been tidied up and refurbished since our earlier stay (just two weeks earlier!), but it was fiesta week in Palencia and the place was buzzing...
nice setting, very close to the centre but still in a park, friendly personnel swimming pool and garden were closed. Booking.com should mention the opening periods of the swimming pool for all hotels!
It was very clean because it was so new. Absolutely terrible directions from web site - poor signage inside hotel - lost from car park to hotel entrance.
central location.Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was poor quality and not worth 7-50 euros.
New hotel surrounded by building sites with no restaurant and no good restaurant within walking distance, the only one recommended by the hotel was closed at night. Far from city centre.
no resturant in the hotel and no recommendation where to find one
Very friendly service in modern surroundings. Clean and comfortable rooms with free internet access. Underground car parking was a distinct advantage.
The beds were amongst the most comfortable we had in Europe. Room was spacious and clean apart from some marks on the carpet. Terrific bathroom. Outstandingly helpful staff. Tightness of parking isn't really an issue as the receptionist directs you into the space. Street parking is almost impossible so pay for a hotel space.
Location. Very clean and luxery. Nobody spoke english.
The bed was comfortable and the room was well insulated from street noise and other guests. It was nice to have a two person Jacuzzi in the room, and very convenient to have a private garage under the room. There was no shower curtain and the water sprayed everywhere! I did not like the transparent sink. I was disappointed to find no lobby and no common facilities such as a computer with internet access.
Whirpool bath, king size bed, privacy
Room was very clean and garage very handy. Close to the motorway and very easy to find. No restaurant, room service only. No outside space.Has the outside styling of a nuclear bunker. Invisiblele staff only contactable by phone.Room service menu very limited and no other choices available.Could not obtain any receipts for cash paid for stay or room service.
Cleanliness, safety of vehicle. An excellent concept for hotels - wish there were more of them. Smell of cigarette smoke in room.
secure parking in a locked garage next to bedroom door. nowhere other than your room to go such as a bar or restaurant and no English speaking channels on tv.
Private garage, big beds 2.00 x 2.00 The room was clean but the sheets had to be replaced, they were full with hair and stains.(maybe use another laundry) Replacement quick and without problems. There is no internet. Every hotel should have free internet in the year 2008..
It was too anonymous. Did not see anyone as we checked in or out, just a voice from a grille and a box to give us our keys and to check documents.
A fantastic hotel if you don't want to unload the car as it is safely locked away in your own private garage. Have already recomended it to friends.
The convrniance of the location Would have liked to have had a walk for fresh air but could not secure the room so was trapped I am sure that if I had asked I could have resolved the issue,in saying this I would stop again
Very luxurious for the price, the large bed was extremely comfortable. Bit impersonal & the breakfast was not worth the money.
It was clean comfortable and quiet. It was also very conveniently located next to the motorway. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, but it would have been nice to see her smiling face when checking in and out. The lady who brought our food was also very pleasant. As we were a family of 5 with 3 rooms we had to ask for keys to be able to move between rooms. Didn't like the scrapheap outside! and the architecture was a little prison like.
Secure parking for motorbike Very impersonal, could not see the reception people. Food very poor and whole place was slightly seedy. No key was given for the door, so became sort of trapped in!
sleep - having breakfast
the cleanliness and changing of sheets and towels daily not having a bar
Hotel staff interest
I liked this hotel. The room was spacious, clean. No airco, not even een fan. Outside temperature: 40 degrees C. This hotel should not be booked in mid-summer. Rest of year ok!
This hotel is nice and good price The bathroom is small no have hair dry, more towel
Monclus has a great location The building is old, and no air conditioning
friendlyness of the staff, we did not speak spanish, but the staff were great.
It was very close to the bus and train stations which is what I needed. Right down town in the heart of Palencia.
Staff friendly, helpful, clean rooms, food and drinks available, all at a reasonable cost. Directions to find hotel not really clear, due to the fact that you have to turn back on yourself to locate hotel because of road layout.
The staff were very helpful. The room had a massive wardrobe, and plenty of space in the room, with a very clean bathroom (bath included!) Very good wifi reception from room as well, which was $3 a day to use, or if you don't have a laptop, $2 per hour on a communal terminal.
very far from city
Staff friendliness and the basic but good food, The location may not suit some. I was aware it was by an industrial estate but it was fine for a one night stopover enroute to Southern Spain
The fantastic customer service of the staff and above all of Leticia the receptionist. La Basilica has clean rooms with comfortable bed, you can eat at the internal restaurant where they serve traditional good spanish food.
everything: style, cleanliness, staff, comfort... congratulation!
The staff was very helpful and handed to us brochures and several maps of the region. Everything was perfect.
Very good value. Friendly staff. Restaurant very good value (menu del dia 9€) if you are happy with traditional Spanish meals. Poor parking facilities. Not many dedicated spaces so may have to park on the street (plenty of places).
next to petrol station so ideal stopover on a long journey probably due to its location on an industrial estate was full of boisterous noisy males in the early hours
The building and internal decor is very good. No bar.
A very pleasant and calm location, the staff and the conditions were perfect. There is space for improvement regarding breakfast, the "fried" bread needs to be replaced for real bread.
Very pleasant staff member, lovely buildings, well appointed rooms, large and airy and good reception rooms No - it was a pity they were not cooking on Sunday evening but not an issue for us.
Nice small hotel in a village. It was a good stop on our trip back home. Dinner started too late: 10 pm
Low season so had place to myself. Comfortable sitting room upstairs. Located close to motorway. Nearest restaurant 5km away.
Great lounge area which (we were the only quests) we were able to relax with friends in, good not to be stuck in your rooms. Lovely dining area for breakfast. Very difficult to find. It was all locked up when we arrived and until someone arrived 20 minutes after we had, we thought we were lost. Not set in the grapevines like advertised, next to an empty field.
Peace and quiet, pleasant surroundings. No priced menu. Asked for dinner, had to accept tortilla batata with salad, yogurt for sweet, coffee, bread and wine. Wine very expensive 12€ made on site. Total cost of meal for two 39.76€. We thought this excessive for such a basic meal.
very quiet, close to the motorway, easy to find the breakfast was week, no restaurant in the village, no bar
Simple, peaceful, good food and wine. Ideal stop for one night to break the long car journey across Spain.
No food after schedule times.
