Pros: Gorgeous property, fantastic attention to detail. We had an amazing room with ensuite and lounge area . Grounds well cared for. Owners so helpful with dinner recommendations and ideas of places to go to visit. Lots of information available to read. Breakfasts amazing - lots of local normandy delicacies !!
Pros: We were there for 2 nights. The location was perfect. The house is surrounded by a large garden and a cozy lounge. We had the bedroom with the most wonderful bath ever. The white themed bath facing the garden was very relaxing and romantic. The host Vanessa was truely a gem and recommended spots for us to visit around. The breakfast offered was exquisite. We would definitely want to come back to this warm and cozy stay.
Pros: Proprietors weer amazing people and doted on us from the minute we arrived; bathroom extremely clean and modern for a home built in 1900. Breakfast amazing; homemade breads, jams, fruit and yogurts. Property close to beach, lovely estate.
Cons: very cold..atypical for time of year - beast from the east storm - old home had old radiators that weren't sufficient; bed was not comfortable..very low to the floor (1 ft) and foam mattress; pillows were thick throw pillows. If they could update the beds, new mattress and bed off the floor, and maybe place seasonal space heaters this would be perfect.
Pros: Very nice an beautifull place. I booked 2 nights and decided to stay longer. Don't miss it! A lot of love in many details....if possible I will turn back to that beautifull place....
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. Vanessa could not do enough for us and went way beyond our expectations. We will certainly go back and stay again!
Cons: There wasn't a single thing we didn't like!
When you stay at Le Tertre in La Feuillie, you'll be near the beach and 8 minutes by car from Chateau Fort de Pirou. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, microwave in a common area, and refrigerator in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: We loved our stay at Le Tertre. The area is beautiful and very calm, perfect for a walk through nature. The house and the garden are marvelous. The room itself is spacious and we liked that everything was color-coded :) The breakfast with homemade jams and yogurt was excellent! Thank you for the wonderful stay.
Pros: We loved this place -- it is one of the best places we have stayed during our many years of travelling in Europe. It was quiet, Chantal and Gerard were friendly and helpful, and the meals Chantal prepared at night were wonderful. Our room was spacious and so comfortable.
Located in Coutances, Domaine de la Boudière is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of Coutances Cathedral and Coutances Botanical Garden. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Very welcoming owners and great facilities Nice and quite and local to town.
Pros: Close enough to the town to be able to walk in for dinner.
Pros: We only stayed one evening but the bed was very comfortable, great white fluffy towels. All very clean and owner very amicable and friendly.
Pros: The host was extremely helpful and pleasant
Pros: Nice clean property within walking distance of the local town - about a mile but along pavements. Quiet and clean independent building which houses two rooms with a shared dining/kitchen area between them which I assume you could use - we didn’t. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room and our host was happy to provide additional tea bags, coffee and milk. Took breakfast hosted in owners kitchen - basic french breakfast of bread, croissant and jam.
Cons: Although very clean and bed very comfortable, it is quite basic, no frills and if you were there for an evening, nowhere to comfortably sit.
Pros: Everything about it suited my stay. It is more of a B&B than hotel but I had gathered that from the information supplied before travelling
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like
Pros: The property was very nice. The room met all of our needs.
Cons: The location is a little hard to find if you don't have it preprinted.
Pros: Beautiful property and the owner was very nice. Breakfast was very good with lots of coffee.
Pros: The property is very quiet and feels as if you are in the middle of the country. The host was charming and very welcoming. He upgraded us to a bigger room as we were the only guests and gave us some milk so we could make tea. Much to our delight, there was a kettle in the room. As it was a Sunday evening and there were no restaurants open in Coutances, he directed us to a pleasant pizzeria a few miles away. Breakfast is available at an additional cost, but we didn't have it, so can't comment on that. There is a kitchen, fridge and microwave available (shared between 3 rooms) in a nice dining area. Strangely (considering the beautiful rooms), the crockery and cutlery available is a rather motley selection, so if you were planning to cook/eat a meal, you might have a problem. The property is a short drive from Countances, which has an interesting cathedral and well maintained Jardin des Plantes to visit.
Cons: Not a criticism, just an observation: As a fridge was available, it would have been useful to have a freezer section where we could re-freeze our freezer packs for the cool bag.
Pros: This is lovely, the host is lovely. The rooms are simple but well setup if you are wheel chairing it (we had a ability enabling bathroom). We had a shared area where we could have a drink with our friends when we got back from dinner. The grounds are lovely and arrived through a wooded lane. Totally one of the nicest places on our trip.
Cons: When you go (and we recommend you do) make sure you have a GPS - not far from town, but the entry is not well signposted (the mayor thinks a sign would be visual pollution from what I understand - very French!) If you hit the roundabout on the way out of town you have gone too far.
With a stay at Le Mascaret, you'll be centrally located in Blainville-sur-Mer, within a 15-minute drive of Chateau de Gratot and Coutances Cathedral. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: Never saw the owner, only a Maid who tried to be helpful. The restaurant was closed so they recommended another place to eat locally. It was the worst meal we have had in France for very many years. A very disappointing visit.
Pros: High quality gastronomic menus, peaceful location near family friendly beaches with water sports. Extremely clean and well appointed accommodation. Calm and private retreat with an emphasis on provenance of ingredients, use of home grown vegetables and fine cooking methods.
Cons: I would recommend three improvements. 1) Add a headboard to the bed; it will make the bedroom look twice as luxurious. 2) Replace the cheap plastic tables at the side of the bed with proper wooden nightstands: it will add class to the room. 3) The chef was friendly and welcoming, as was the lady serving breakfast: however, it would be much more enjoyable for the guests if the other members of staff would make an effort to be relaxed and friendly.
Welcome to Coutances! Keep the rhythm, you won't be disappointed! Swing to Jazz under the apple trees. Stroll through the alleyway of the St Luc and Ste Croix bazaars. Discover the essential in a cathedral visit. Along your journey, land on our beaches! Enjoy cider, Andouille and Camembert, produced in our green country, somewhere between Le Mont-St-Michel Bay and La Cité de la Mer. Do you like La Manche? Maybe "Oui," maybe "Non." To find out, come see us.
Pros: Good location and friendly staff. They spoke good English.
Pros: Nothing . We actually checked out early.
Cons: Bed. Breakfast. Area.
Pros: Very peaceful
Pros: A good hotel for this money. Friendly staff. Purely, there are all what you need to stop on a trip for one night. Own parking.
Pros: Great location for Normandy beaches etc. lift and aircon. Shops nearby, you need a car.
Cons: Flat pillows and hard bed. Little pricier for location compared to other blue Ibis. Choose a smoking room, wouldn't next time. Room decor a little jaded.
Pros: Historic city wonderfull place would recommend it to every one to notch
Pros: Good stop off not long term
Cons: Being refurbed
Cons: There was a beetle in the toilet
Pros: Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, good price.
Pros: Customary cheap hotel that provide the basic needs, ideal for when spending very limited time at the hotel. Room small but very clean and comfortable. Good for the price charged. Overall the hotel appears good and is clean. Ideal for getting on the roads and motorways, in quiet area.
Cons: Bathroom and toiler very small, but to be expected.
Located in Ancteville, Manoir De La Foulerie is in a rural location, within a 10-minute drive of Chateau de Gratot and Coutances Cathedral. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Friendly staff, lovely location.
Cons: We thought the decor in our room wasn’t great although it was comfortable enough though. Shame the restaurant wasn’t open the night we were there as, cycles being our only mode of transport, we had to cycle 5km to the nearest village for a meal, and the only restaurant there wasn’t great either.
Pros: A hidden gem. Super old manoir, very clever and tastefully done decor. My wife and I were in one of the bedrooms in the tower, accessed by a spiral staircase. A really lovely spacious room, excellent shower. Beams, magnificent fireplace, curtain matching fabric material on the walls, beams. Stylish furnishings. The whole works, lovely waking up to it. Breakfast served downstairs in the dining room. Stylish. The grounds inviting, a lake, loads of space, we didn't see it but apparently there's a swimming pool. ..... Great value, especially as breakfasts included. Will go back.
Cons: Not surprisingly, the restaurant no longer functions. I only mention this so that anyone expecting one won't be surprised. Coutances not that far distant. Otherwise, no dislikes.
Cons: The room was not clean (sheets, towels not changed) and staff did nothing to amend/apologize. Staff was rude and breakfast was below average.
Pros: Country setting in substantial grounds. Very oldie world with access to bedrooms a stone spiral staircase. Good breakfast and restaurant on site in summer.
Cons: No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. No smoke alarms. Parking some distance from the main house across gravel.
Cons: There was no information in the room at all, or how to contact a member of staff if necessary. Although we are fit I considerered that the stairs were dangerous as there was no handrail of any sort.
Pros: The place is lovely, we had the impression to have gone back in time. quite in a lovely countryside
Cons: Our room was a bit moldy, the smell was overwhelming. They should update the decor a bit and offer proper pillows. The long soft pillow was so unconfortable. This is a problem with most hotels. Go the american way: 2 or 3 different kind of pillows (soft, medium and hard)!
Pros: Amazing place, house and all what is around. Small lake with ducks, ponies and donkey (name is Melody) absolutely to draw ideal relax place for quiet living. Heated pool call for relax after hard traveling. Good breakfast and coffe start nice day. We spent there 5 nights and we can only recomend...
Pros: The setting was beautiful, staying in a Chateau was magical, breakfast excellent! The Creperie, the chef and the friendly dog all excelled as well!
Cons: Not being able to check in until 5 pm
Pros: Traditional decor with lovely stone fireplaces. Very nice owners. Big garden to explore plus lovely beaches approx 20 minutes by car. Bar and restaurant available on site.
Cons: I would definitely go again.
Pros: The Manoir de La Foulerie is a charming and stylish place to stay. The owners are friendly and helpful and the ambience is excellent. There is also a restaurant with genuine home cooking and a bar, unusual in B&Bs of this type, but in common with other French Hotels and B&Bs there is no hospitality tray to allow guests to brew up a cup of tea or coffee, as would found in most comparable British establishments. Highly recommended as a place of great tranquillity. A good place to chill out.
Pros: The location is only excellent if you want a quiet place in the countryside. If you're after nightlife, forget it! Lovely lake, nice rooms and the best place we stayed on our trip round Normandy. Loved it.
Pros: The manor is bit off the beaten track but if old and full of family history is you, then what a wonderful find - huge fireplaces, winding stone staircase and a four poster bed, to name but a few.
Cons: Soft furnishings could do with being updated
Pros: staff were wonderful and freindly - will definately book again
Pros: The unique experience of living in a Normandy Manor house. A friendly host and the extremely pleasant atmosphere at the breakfast table (fire crackling in the large Norman fireplace).
Cons: The WiFi connection did dot function, but steps were taken to remedy
Pros: While the location of the hotel is remote the surrounding countryside and grounds are splendid. The Hotel itself is almost medieval with lots of character. We will certainly go back
Pros: The experience of staying in an old manor house. Very adequate creperie/restaurant. Friendly staff, nice surroundings. Economical 2 days.
Cons: Did not realise it was an activity centre for youngsters - could be a bit noisy.
Pros: Beautiful Manoir with lakeside setting, Lovely food available at creperie adjacent to Manoir. Very relaxing break and friendly people both hosts & guests.
With a stay at Hôtel La Pocatiere in Coutances, you'll be within a 10-minute walk of Coutances Cathedral and Coutances Botanical Garden. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: staff was very helpful & friendly. Room was perfect, clean and roomy.
Cons: coffee making facility in room
Pros: Good location friendly welcome Secure area to keep our bicycles
Pros: Breakfast in France is the same everywhere and this was certainly up to top standard. Fresh croisants and pain du chocolat with plain french bread and any amount of coffee or hot drinks, jam cheese and other treats. We all liked it. We liked the secure bicycle parking in a large locked basement garage accessible by easy ramp at the back. This makes this hotel a good one for touring cyclists.
Cons: The location is actually not that central if you are not able to walk far. However if you can, then this hotel is easy to reach from the main road and there is a quiet route into the centre only 10 mins walk away.
Pros: It was very convenient to the activities I was attending in Coutances.
Cons: It was fine - no complaints.
Pros: This is a Contact Hotel so you gain a point in the Reward scheme by staying there. It is a convenient hotel to see Couances, It has off road parking. Rooms are good value. Bathroom was spacious and modern. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful.
Pros: It was in a pleasant locality and very near an excellent restaurant.
Cons: I was glad that I had taken my own soap.
Pros: Great location for Cathedral and other places of historical interest. Also excellent for bars and restaurants. Excellent breakfast.
Pros: Location, newly decorated, easy atmosphere.
Cons: Bit noisy with fairly busy road outside. No WiFi working. Although we were ok in getting a parking space there did not seem a lot of room if the hotel was busy.
Pros: Breakfast was good. Location fair.
Pros: friendly staff, good lunch, helped us find a evening restaurant as theirs was closed that eve
Located in La Vendelee, Le clos des tilleuls is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of Chateau de Gratot and Coutances Cathedral. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Easy to park
Cons: It felt as if everything here is done to a minimum, certainly no frills. The decor is a strange mixture as if it has been furnished with random things from a saleroom. Bizarrely we had a 'high tech' shower but the rest of the room was basic. We could not use the sauna as the instructions are only in French. No soap provided in the bathroom, a miniature tube of shower gel , not replaced in the 4 days we were there, and old towels and bed linen. The surround to the washbasin is pebbles set in concrete; impossible to stand anything on, and unhygienic. It is not a welcoming atmosphere here.
Pros: High quality, excellent value, very attentive owners, great breakfast with homemade breads, and even multifunction shower & 2 electric massage chairs & a sauna in the room. Also nice garden & very quiet location, but only 5 minutes from Coutences town centre. For sure we will return
Cons: Nothing- xcept provide a bar of handsoap to wash hands
Pros: The owner was very welcoming and helpful and there is a fabulous shower in the family room. Fantastic for a stopover when arriving in France and travelling south. Would definitely book again.
Pros: Friendly, no English, but I speak French, dining room and meals good.
Cons: uncomfortable chairs in bedroom, little storage space, steep stairs, modern unpractical wash basin
Pros: Very nice hotel, highly recommended
Pros: It was quiet, was easy travel to Cherbourg for the morning ferry, very well presented, interesting old building.
Cons: Breakfast was a little limited for choice but there was plenty of it.
Pros: A beautiful French country house. Lots of 'finishing touches' that made such a difference. The shower was an experience!!! (awesome!!) The owners were really helpful. Very comfortable, very relaxing - would definitely return.
8.0 Excellent (560 reviews)
See hotel page Welcome to Coutances, in the Manche department. About 30km from Granville and Saint-L, Ingrid Jean and Gilles Simon welcome you in the green environment of The Originals City, Hotel Cositel, Coutances. This pleasant 3-star establishment with 55 quiet and well-kept rooms is a good place to relax, eat some traditional cuisine and enjoy the garden and its pond. Business guests can make use of the 6 seminar rooms here. A cosy hotel close to Lower Normandys coast and beaches.
Pros: This is convenient location to start and finish our vacation. The hotel offers excellent facilities for the price and the staff are extremely pleasant. We have stayed here a few times and have always enjoyed it. Very clean.
Pros: Location, dinner, views
Cons: when we came down for breakfast at 9-30am there was very little left. When i booked this hotel it was to include breakfast as advertised on your site, but we ended up having to pay extra for it NOT VERY HAPPY.
Pros: Great quiet location a few minutes outside the Coutances centre with plenty of parking. Nice room and big beds in our twin. The outside deck and comfort chairs looked atractive for an afternoon rest though we were too late in the day to take advantage of those.
Cons: Really two things. The restaurant was closed for the weekend so we had to go into Coutances after a long day's travelling and the shower hose needed some serious re-configuration to get it into place for a decent shower for a tall man
Pros: Staff good
Cons: Hotel starting to date.
Pros: Staff very helpful and friendly.
Cons: The price of breakfast was too much for what it was.
Pros: Not a lot -
Cons: Very tired facilities. Thought new ownership would have boosted this place - evening meal poor (bad news as quite a distance outside town) breakfast acceptable. Grubby tired decor in rooms
Pros: Great location and lovely grounds. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Cons: Parts of the hotel were a little tired.
Pros: Good clean and modern building with plenty of free and easy parking onsite.
