Pazo Santa María - Dombodán - Building
1
9.4 Excellent (237 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Pazo Santa María is an 18th-century property, set in 35,000 m² of gardens. It is near the town of Arzúa, 28km from Santiago de Compostela Airport. This historic building has original stone walls and wooden beams. There are relaxing lounges, with a library and an open fireplace. Free Wi-Fi access is available in public areas. Rooms at Pazo Santa María are spacious and charming. They have heating and a private bathroom. The hotel also has a restaurant, a bar and a terrace, with impressive views. At Pazo Santa María you can also rent a bicycle, get tourist information of the area and El Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage Route or get a massage. The French route of the Camino de Santiago is 1 km away and the Camino Primitivo and Camino Norte are on the edge of the hotel's grounds. Free private parking is available at the hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was a lovely establishment a bit outside of town, but walkable especially if you are a peregrino. I was able to get a massage on site which was a bonus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a superb find on our Camino. The tranquil rural setting, the pond and swans, the views and the room were all super. We also enjoyed a top quality meal at the restaurant. A real treat.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was exceptional - Place was gorgeous
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sparkly clean, large room, comfortable beds. Great bathroom. Breakfast buffet was the best on the Camino. An onsite chef made a hearty omelet. One of our best stays on the Camino!!
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place with swans in the pond! We walked directly, as it was not much further off the Camino. Wonderful supper-- have the scallops! This was a very luxurious stop on our walk.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and setting just outside Arzúa, and just off the Camino del Norte, is relaxing and beautiful. I believe my room was in a special category of its own. It was a very spacious corner room, with several windows that opened fully to let in the fresh air, with a four post bed, sitting area, and a good-sized bathroom, all very beautifully appointed, fit for royalty. I was hiking the Camino so it made for the perfect respite after a long days walk. And they provide transportation to and from your starting point on the Camino for a reduced rate. Dinner and breakfast were superb, and I can’t say enough about the sweet girl who took care of me each of my two nights at dinner. The general manager/owner Elena is warm and welcoming and is working always to ensure everything is perfect. This historic, stunning property was one of the highlights of my month-long trip.
Cons: Pazo Santa Maria is special in every way.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful countryside location, outstanding, clean, elegant inn, wonderful dining, attentive waitstaff.
Cons: One reception staffer (female) seemed more irritated than welcoming, but everything else was PERFECT.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is the second time that we have stayed at Pazo Santa Maria. It is a lovely place with beautiful grounds and an excellent restaurant. Our room was very spacious with a large bathroom; the bed was very comfortable with nice linens. Both of our stays occurred while we were walking the Camino. The hotel is located on the outskirts of town so we were about a mile from the Camino route. Transportation was provided to the route in the morning which was a nice feature. An excellent breakfast was also provided. We would definitely stay here again.
Cons: Nothing-it was great.
6.7 Good
Pros: Very pretty place and quiet

6.7 Good
Pros: I really liked the gardens, the surroundings, the quietness of the place, and the hygiene
Cons: The watchful eye of the owner
7.0 Good
Pros: A beautifully restored 19th century hacienda, this is a beautiful hotel, with buildings scatterd over the property with beautiful rooms. The central building contains the dining room for breakfast. Dinners available upon request. As walkers on the Camino, it was 1.5 km off the trail, but would be ideal for bikers or by car. The host couple are welcoming and helpful. A real Spanish experience, located in the country with beautiful gardens.
Cons: It was 1.5 km from centre town and the Camino route, which for walkers at the end of the day was long. We did appreciate the quiet and beauty.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Serene atmosphere, beautiful location, buildings and rooms, friendly staff
6.4 Good
Pros: Beautiful building. Nice location if you want to get away from it all.
Cons: A little too far from the town. Very unsuitable for people doing the Camino. Unlike a hotel as no common area/bar. Very restricted to your room.

Pros: Beautiful location, warm welcome, gorgeous courtyard, lovely dining room for breakfast.
Cons: would be nice if it had a dinner menu.
6.8 Good
Pros: Beautiful facilities, quiet location
Cons: The hotel manager was not able to speak any English. Also, when we arrived there were no staff at the hotel.

Pros: Very nice hostal. Clean and comfortable. Very nice bathroom. It’s evident that the owner takes a lot of care and pride in her facility. She was friendly and made us feel welcome.
Cons: The weather was bad and the WiFi was not working. She was unsuccessful in getting that resolved, but was able to get her own internet connection working. We don’t speak Spanish so not having WIFI and no TV made for a long night because, due to the weather, going out wasn’t an option. This property is off The Way so it was a little bit of a walk to find a cafe-bar.

Cons: No
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Smack on the Camino Ingles, so very convenient. Great dinner but for me it opens too late for breakfast (not their fault, it’s a tradition over there). Very clean and a good deal. There is a cafe’ restaurant on the ground floor so there is always plenty of drinks and food (try the sangria...). Very convenient laundry possibility. Great commons.
Cons: Staff is... let’s say... harsh but to the point of almost being funny. The shared room was stuffy as the place is on a busy street and the windows keep the noise out but that means no air coming in. The Albergue has s restaurant on the ground floor so the noise is heard until very late. But this is not a problem for those who sleep very soundly.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and rooms in good condition. Staff busy but doing their job ok
Cons: Found the bathtub a bit deep so have to be super careful when taking a shower in case of a fall. Need a rubberized mat tonprevent slips and falls. This is the only concern I had

Pros: Great garden/patio, spacious rooms
Cons: Mattress a little uncomfortable.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nice bathroom. Room had nice appearance.
Cons: I and my wife stayed in a private room with twin beds. Both of us were awakened in the middle of the night after being severely bitten by bedbugs. We disassembled the bedding and removed over a dozen bedbugs each. Bedbug fecal material on bedding and mattresses indicated they are not often checked. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the airport, friendly, speaks English and has a taxi ready for me at 5:15 am!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s in a little village close to Santiago airport. I think it’s even on one of the Camino’s as I saw a pilgrim walk past the hotel. They drive you to the airport at the most impossible times. My flight was at 6.50am. No problemo. The staff was reasonably friendly but would allow me to receive a parcel at the hotel (access weight) which I thought was odd. My room was quite cold but had a bath tub. Bliss.
Cons: Because of airport shuttles at all times of the night it’s quite noisy with chatter downstairs and in the hallway. The downstairs coffee shop opens quite late for an airport hotel. I think 7 or 8am. I had dinner in the restaurant which belongs to the hotel. Food was okish. Chips under cooked. Chicken mir available. The waiter was very nice though.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were fantastic. Odí and Paloma couldn’t have helped more. Charming.
Cons: All good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners.

7.5 Good
Pros: It's close to the airport, less than 15 minutes by car. Taxi costs ca. 8 EUR only. Staffs speak limited English, but they are really friendly and helpful.
Cons: There is no lift, so it's a bit work when you have a large suitcase. Breakfast isn't bad, but we can be happier when there is some Spanish ham or some more warm menus.
7.5 Good
Pros: reasonably clean and staff
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient to Santiago airport and they provided a ride to the airport
Cons: No hot water in the shower in the morning. It was too early to find someone in reception to ask about it
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was very nice and helpful.
Cons: I had to fly home from the Camino Trail for a family emergency. I booked this room at 6am the morning of the day I was arriving. I don't speak Spanish and I made the booking online where it said it only had a few rooms left. I selected the hotel due to the proximity to the airport and the free shuttle service as I had an early flight out. Unfortunately the rooms were oversold. I couldn't understand if it was on their end or bookings.com. They said they were busy that morning and didn't pull the availability. They didn't tell me any of this until they also said they had another room at a partner hotel, St. Paul, which they said was a comparable hotel. It was not. It was a hostel. Clean but nothing around it like the other one. They knew I was disappointed as we were now going back in the same direction as I had come and I needed the shuttle since I was leaving at 6:15am. They assured me they would still give me a ride to the airport the next morning and have a picnic packed for me since I was leaving before breakfast. They were there right on time and were very pleasant through the entire time, but I would have preferred staying at their hotel, not the hostel. Just compounded an already difficult day.

6.5 Good
Pros: Staff was helpful and nice. Plenty of hot water, good Wi-Fi. I got a room away from the road and thankful for that.
Cons: The perfumed cleaner smell was overwhelming, please switch to unscented surface cleaner! Had to keep the windows open for a few hours. Small room, small bathroom, The hotel is on a busy road.
7.1 Good
Pros: The location was great! The room was clean but not very comfortable.
Cons: There was only one long pillow for two people and the bed was okay. They places they recommended to eat where all part of the same chain and very understaffed. We had one of our worse meals on The Camino in one of their restaurants. While we paid for breakfast, we didn't end up getting any. When we arrived at the cafe we waited at a table. When no one came, we approached the bar and were told to sit down. We did. We waited 10 minutes with no one showing interest in helping us. There were lots of customers, but only two woman working. Finally, we made the decision to leave and get something on the road. We didn't feel like waiting. Once we were leaving, we were finally approached. We still left. We understand that it was busy, but to ignore a customer who pre-paid their breakfast, with not so much as a "I see you and will be right there." was unacceptable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location and comfortable room. Very quiet--my room looked out to forest, though there are rooms that look out to the street. Lots of places to eat nearby; the breakfast that was included with the room in a nearby cafe was quite large.
Cons: The hotel should change the cleaning supplies--the perfumed smell of the room was overwhelming. I am not allergic to such scents, but it could be very uncomfortable for those who are.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is our second stay here. We had an accessible room (what was available) and it was large in both the bedroom / closet portion and the bathroom. The shower was large (lip getting into shower) with liquid shampoo and soap. Bath chair in bathroom. Beds were very comfortable and room was clean. Ask at desk for a hairdryer. The pension has an elevator. Morning /day staff is wonderful. Breakfast was included in price and was located at cafe next door. One of our better breakfasts in 35 days on Camino. This is a popular place.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a room with a wonderful view. Rooms are comfortable and clean and location is easy to find as you walk into O'Pedrouzo. Hearty breakfast included. Thoroughly recommend Taste The Way for dinner. Wonderful food and service.

Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. Luggage not on plane, no problem taking me back to airport to collect it, all free relay. Room and bed comfy, Food tasty and plentiful. Easy access to airport
4.6 Okay
Pros: The only good thing about this hotel is its proximity to the airport, and the fact that they have a shuttle that takes you to the airport for free. Also, the staff is helpful.
Cons: The rooms are badly in need of an update. The beds are horrible, uncomfortable, and are worse than at a budget hostel. The blankets are flimsy, and could use a good laundering. The cleanliness leaves much to be desired; the bathroom floor has large spots, the carpet is filthy, the ceiling has humidity stains, and the rooms and hallway smell like cigarette smoke. Finally, the shuttle driver appeared 10 minutes later than what we had scheduled.
7.5 Good
Pros: It was a very clean hotel with really nice staff and food. It’s great as a one night stop over for the airport. The free airport shuttle was also very convenient.
9.0 Excellent
Cons: Air con is advertised but it doesn’t work. They turn off after certain time of year, although it was really hot in the room. I mean really hot. They did provide fan but that is absurd.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good restaurant and staff.
Cons: Noisy due to the fact that my room was beside the road.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Food was good.
