This hotel features Japanese traditional architectural style since the Taisho period. It's a small hotel but we offer warm and homelike hospitality for our guests. Provides delicious cuisine at reasonable prices and you can enjoy authentic Japanese dish 'Kaisekiryori' at here. Also we offer bath of natural hot spring that hot water flows from natural sources. Convenient for sightseeing because it takes only 5 min walk to bus stop where guests can take the bus bound for Kamikochi and Utsukushigahara ( only summertime ).

Pros: Very efficient operational system: Check in with friendly staff, pay with vending machine in advance (avoiding having to wait in line to check out and pay later.)
Room is sizable for Japan. Clean and newly decorated. Basic, but has everything you need.
Excellent location. Within a 5 min walk to train station. Very close to supermarket.
Best point: Has 24/7 diner right at the ground level. Food is not gourmet but not bad (like Denny's).
Plus, it's very reasonably priced. (I paid $70 US a night in April.)
This hotel is the best hidden gem in Matsumoto. I actually prefer it way more than Buena Vista, which is supposed to be the most "luxurious" business hotel in town.
Cons: No gym, but neither does Buena Vista.
Pros: Easy to find from the train station. Includes breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.

Pros: We loved our room, it was a traditional tatami room with a great robotic toilet and sink. The indoor onsens was a little hot, but the outdoor ones were perfect! The meal was really a great spread--however the amount was overwhelming. We thought the kaiseki food was really delicious, but after about 10 dishes, they brought our steak which was a bit fatty. Unfortunately we left food because it was just so much (and we're from Texas!). We partook in the geisha experience, which was great fun. We were told the price would decrease based on how many people participated--but apparently it was counting only the adults, so the calculation changed at the end from what I was expecting. We were driven back to the station which was great, and we had transportation from the station as well. The orientation to the area by Tyler was great too.
Cons: We didn't feel comfortable when being guilted about our meal. After being asked several times about removing the dishes despite food remaining, it just was awkward--but then the owner (the American) came to us to pull out our futons, but also I think to see why we left food. We said everything was absolutely delicious, but we just simply cannot eat that amount of food--and he commented that the chef doesn't really do the tempura type meals insinuating that we would have eaten it if it had been 'elementary' Japanese food. At the end, we offered to leave an umbrella that we no longer needed for other guests who find themselves in the rain, and he made an awkward comment about taking umbrellas become like unwanted rabbits multiplying--again, just another awkward conversation that took away from the traditional experience.
