I used it as stopover on route from south of France to England and is only 10 minutes drive from motorway but in a lovely village surrounded by forest where I was able to walk my dog. Staff were friendly and restaurant good food and relaxing. Room spacious and comfortable.
Location, location, location
Central location in town, quiet, restful. Polite, helpful staff. Good bed and linen Food in restaurant was a little under par - we think that as it was a Monday, that the usual chef was off duty.
enjoyed walking around the village. Useful as an overnight stop enroute to Calais.
Easy to find, room pleasant and food good. Lovely little town to wander around after dinner. Not possible to check in until after 4pm. We and several other guests had to wander about for a while before we could check in.
excellent food room was a bit too cold
The hotel was very clean and friendly, food was good and location wonderful
The waiter at the hotel was very friendly even though he did not speak much English and we spoke even less French.
ideal country location to break a motor way journey.Excellent food.
The staff, the quisine, the local environment no
Great clean hotel, friendly staff and a great location in the centre of town.
The manageress was extremely helpful and very pleasant who did so much to ensure out stay was enjoyable. The meals we had there and the staff attending us were excellent.
Very good position in the centre of Chaumont and the staff were friendly and helpful. Only stayed one night but we were very impressed with the display and variety for breakfast - better than many larger Hotels. We were a little disappointed with the size of the bathroom - very small and thought it would be better to have the toilet and bath/shower made into one room so that you had room to move around.
Please write at least 15 words Need more variety for breakfast
Location only. This should not be classified as a four star hotel. Poor selection of toiletries and only for one person although we had a double room. Bed sloped to the middle and was uncomfortable. Poor flow of water from bath tap, it would take a week to fill it. Very poor dinner although we had the Grand Menu at Eur 38 each - 2 courses were returned, and main course portion minute.
Friendly and efficient staff, We stayed in the family bedroom which was spacious, comfortable and functional and the hotel was in the centre of town. Parking on site.
Warm welcome. Roomy and comfortable accommodation and tea making facilities and secure carparking were appreciated. Nothing to add
The central location was useful for leisurely sightseeing after a long day's driving. The buffet breakfast had a good choice of items. The indoor parking arrangements are very restricted and manoeuvring was difficult. The family room we used had a poor outlook.
The staff were very obliging and tried earnestly to assist with our stay. They opened the bar so we could have a drinlk after a long drive and when we were told that the restaurant was closed, recommended somewhere local to eat. There is on site parking. The restaurant was closed on the day we arrived. We were not expecting to have to leave the hotel in very inclement weather to find somewhere to eat. It was an expensive stay considering all the amenities were not avilable.
The staff were friendly and always very helpful. Dinner at the restaurant was pleasant and adequate, breakfast was exceptionally well-varied. On-site parking in the center of town was a convenience, although it would be difficult with many guests at one time. The separate toilet room (WC) is not for the claustrophobic! Tight, no window, and no exhaust fan! Any unpleasant odor stays for hours and permeates the rest of the living space. The hotel should consider installing exhaust fans where there are only vent spaces.
Outside rooms large and decorated tastefully. Quiet location. The quality of food was below average, also no fresh produce and menu much too expensive with even supplements for cheese and a meat course. Cleanliness.
Comfort of the room No other amenities nearby
The hotel was an oasis of calm at the end of a long day's drive. The staff were courteous and helpful, the room comfortable and the dinner excellent. It was difficult to find even though the village is small. Signing is not clear and we had to ask a local for directions.
style and comfort of the chateau......ambience......facilities.....friendly staff. limited evening menu and too expensive for the quality of food provided.
nice room, comfy bed. The Owner (a young gentleman) was very friendly and came to say goodbye at 8am as we were leaving. He spoke excellent English which we were grateful for and after our earlier experience (see negative comments). He was very helpful and checked us out. We didnt use any facilities as it was just an overnight stay. We didnt eat at the hotel. dinner was 38 euros each (a bit expensive for us!). If we had met the gentleman first, our experience would have been much better. He was very friendly! The lady who checked us in was unfriendly and didnt speak english. She was unhappy for us to leave our car full of wine and champagne (we were on way home to uk next day) in front of the chateau and asked us to move it to the back of a building and next to an open field (not secure). We refused and explained about security. She was not happy but we were allowed to leave it there eventually. Courban is what i would describe as a ghost town.No shops/bars and was rather depressing. Wish we had stayed elsewhere for our last night in france as there are lovely towns and villages not far away! if we had read the reviews on a well known trip advice website we wouldnt have booked this hotel but of course we are all different and you might like it!
Room clean and comfortable. Excellent Restaurant next door. Superb quality food. The facility of the swimming pool was most welcome. Very difficult to find. Rather noisy with busy motorway only a short distance from Hotel even through the night.Breakfast good but had to find own way around no assistance given.
Easy to find , a few miles from motorway Convienient but not exotic location
Helpfull staff, underground parking for our motorbikes. Slow service in the restaurant
Pleasant welcoming staff - good dinner in restaurant - good value for money. Just right for a one night stopover, easy to find, good parking. Convenient for LIDL. Too far out of town to walk there - nowhere scenic to walk nearby.
The rooms are clean, the bathroom is very good, the water was hot, and the bed was comfortable.
Friendly staff at reception. Good breakfast. Clean room. Our dog could stay with us. Excellent value.
The food in the restaurant in the evening was good, The position on the outskirts of town was also very good for a quick stop off en route with our journey, wished I had found one more in the centre to have a look around. The room was over tired, although for the price it was very good.
It was really, really nice to have a steak and Budweiser in a surprisingly authentic Texas-styled restaurant! Although our dealings with most of the staff were great, just after 10:00 a.m. on our checkout day we were called by a lady (day manager???) who seemed excited that we hadn't checked out/paid them yet.
Exactly as expected from a 2 star hotel, rooms small, basic but clean. Decent beds and restaurant, Texas Grill, food tex-mex with a french feel....no problem. Extensive free parking. Nothing unexpected for a 2 star.
Easy to find. Good resaurant.
Very convenient location, useful to have own car park. Comfortable, clean if not exactly elegant. This is the thrid time we have stayed there for an overnight while travelling through France.
Friendly staff, clean + warm room, nice brekkie, good resto next door, right by train station. lack of provision for smokers
good location, friendly and helpful staff
Very nice resturant
Bedrooms comfortable. Reception staff very helpful and friendly We have stayed several times at this hotel. Usually the breakfast is OK but this time quality and standards were definitely slipping
I really liked the location. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was simple but comfortable. The hotel in general was very attractive and inviting. The pizza restaurant downstairs was excellent and the atmosphere very relaxing. The restaurant hours were late in the evening, however that is more cultural. We were just hungry and had to wait for it to open.
It was easy to find and very adequate for a one night stay. Dark corridors, but on the other hand, all for energy conservation
Free WiFi; good restaurant
Stay in your hotel every time I drive through France.Although I absolutely hatewhat you havew done with the breakfast room .I loved the posters which fitted perfectly unfortunately the stuffed animals are too big andshould be placed in a grand room with high ceilings. The pictures do not go with the circus type colours you have painted it. The animals put me off my breakfast is that the idea probably not stay again
Magnificent dining room. Baronial. Tapestries on walls. Log fire. Like living in a medieval castle. No door on wc in bedroom. Bedroom a bit dark and cold.
That it was not in a busy town. The actual building was very interesting. The bed was very comfortable. Nothing else!!!! The food was also 11 century!! Very poor. It was not acceptable to see a dog running around in the kitchen and when approached, staff member became irritated. The beakfast for 12 euros was very basic, coffee and a croissant. Bedrooms very basic,no mirror in bathroom! There was wedding that nite and therefore the people in the dining room had to listen to that din all evening. Very poor value for a superior double room.
Hartelijke ontvangst. Uitstekende overnachtings locatie; rustige plek. Zeer goede keuken; gezellige dinerruimte in middeleeuws decor. Uitstekende bedden. De auberge is in renovatie, die op tal van punten nog moet worden afgerond. Desondanks is het er plezierig toeven.
A fascinating building, full of historical features. The dinner was excellent dinner. The location in a quiet French village is also perfect for a stopover travelling south (or north). The rooms could be made more comfortable without altering the medieval character, and the plumbing didn't function absolutely perfectly.
Like staying in a medieval castle but with modern facilities. The dining room was especially attractive and dinner very good. The continental breakfast was overpriced; we had enjoyed much the same at a smart modern hotel for half the price. Not suitable for anyone who has difficulty with steps, or with young children in view of the antiques everywhere. Also going from one part to the other necessitated going outside which could be a drawback during inclement weather. An ability to speak some French would be a great advantage.
