10.0 Excellent
Pros: Michele the host was attentive and very helpful. The property was immaculately clean. The bedroom was very comfortable. Breakfast was perfect and the swimming pool the icing on the cake. Every possible thing was taken care of. A truly outstanding property. It is a ten minute walk into town and the area is very quiet and peaceful.

Pros: Very friendly & helpful lady, very clean accommodation, short walk into the town, lovely breakfast. Highly recommended
Cons: The weather was to cold to use the swimming pool !!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The proprietor was very welcoming and cheerful. Her English was very good. The whole experience was very good. Her attention to detail was excellent
Cons: The B&B took a little finding: we needed SatNav to find it and even then it wasn't obvious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful stay. Wonderful host. Amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was very welcoming and friendly with good advice of what to do in the area. Her English was excellent. She provided a lovely breakfast on the terrace with special touches like home made yogurt and plums from the garden. The rooms were extremely well presented and quiet. The swimming pool and grounds were very relaxing. Brioude is a really nice town with hardly any English tourists. We were there for a week and found there was a lot of interesting villages and beautiful countryside to explore in the local area. It is also worth visiting le Puy en Velay ,an hour to the South.
Cons: Fans could be provided in every room, as we did not have one to begin with as it was particularly hot during our visit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting, gardens, bright stylish property, lovely bedroom with wonderful views and general levels of comfort. The hostess was also very welcoming and helpful recommending and booking a restaurant for us.
Cons: Possibly the late check in time suggested of 5pm
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Michele is so nice n lovely, pick us up from d train station, take care of us throughout our stay n take us for sightseeing, visiting small lovely villages n send us back to d train station. The house is so beuatiful, cosy comfortable and really quiet. Everything is wonderful. Thanks so much Michele.
Cons: Absolututely nothing I didnt like.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The Owner was very welcoming and warm, the B&B itself is an immaculate private house with a beautiful garden and good sized swimming pool (although it was too early in the season for us to use it). Continental breakfast was very good and for once in France there was English black tea available both on our arrival and at Breakfast. The house is located in a very nice neighbourhood so we were not disturbed by outside noise, and we were within easy walking distance of the Old Town centre and the restaurants. A very sumptuous lounge is available for guests who wish to relax and watch TV.
Cons: Nothing in particular

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The grounds and gardens are exceptional. The pool is heated and the couple running this property are delightful and went out of their way to make us, and our dog, feel welcome. Breakfast was good and the owner took great pride in describing the local cheeses. A relaxing and enjoyable overnight stay.
Cons: The room/ carpets could have done with a good clean. Dust had gathered around the balcony doors, under the beds & furniture...but this did not spoil our stay, as the house itself is stunning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s nice to stay in real France
Cons: No complaints
7.0 Good
Cons: We were unable to eat at the hotel that night as they had a seminar on so we had to Go out to eat which was disappointing. We had read how good it was so thus spoilt the whole experience particularly as the food we had was rubbish.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Le Manoir is full of historical charm - a lovely period building set in generous, attractive grounds. Bernard, the host, is genial, attentive and very helpful. Our room was large and airy, with excellent ensuite facilities.
Cons: Le Manoir does not offer an evening menu at present and, unfortunately, the two recommended restaurants were fully booked. After a long day travelling, this was a little disappointing. We would advise anyone wanting an evening meal to arrange a reservation in advance.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was lovely and friendly
Cons: Being woken up at 7am by people arriving for a breakfast meeting and the noise they made talking downstairs as well as the cars arriving on the gravel and people then walking across it. Fair enough if it was 9am. The noise of children running above our heads at 10pm and 8am. They were obviouly having fun.

Cons: It was smaller than we thought
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The quiet country location was very restful. The breakfasts were copious and delicious! I especially enjoyed the CHEESES.
Cons: Not much, perhaps only the maneuvering required at the top of the stairs, as the bedroom was one step UP in one direction, and the bathroom was one step UP in another direction - but this was very minor. I was just afraid of tripping or a misstep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The personnel touch as we were greeted on arrival and shown around.
Cons: Individuality great rooms for a couple or young family

Pros: Bed was great. Fred and Wendy adorable. We were a little bit surprised by the room’s “African theme” to be honest.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Quiet rural location with a delicious dinner and breakfast. Warm welcome
Cons: A bit too much furniture is the room - as always in France!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: In the middle of nowhere we found this jewel of a place! A tiny hotel with a BIG heart. We immediately loved it. . We had a very good home cooked dinner at the charming terrace on this wonderful summer evening. The host was good at his job and made the guests feel very welcome. In the background played 'smoochy' jazz. We could not wish for anything more. We also liked our room a lot, very comfortable and cosy at the same time. Important for us; good reading light.,
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good location not far from the motorway with great hosts who couldn't have done more to make us welcome. Quiet surroundings once the traffic had subsided. Potential for using as a base to explore the area. Good food.
Cons: Smallish room - but you don't see much when you are asleep!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a very pleasant stay. Our hosts were very nice and friendly. The dinner and the breakfast were wonderful, home made with local products. Thank's again Wendy and Fred!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We received the warmest of welcomes to this fabulous little hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and we were superbly looked after. The children were not left out, with colouring books provided swiftly along with cushions for their dining chairs to get them to the right height- even the dog was given water without asking. The family room was very comfortable, clean and much loved by the children, getting to sleep (& chat until far too late into the night) with us in the same room. Dinner was fabulous- and the friendly, humorous, caring service was outstanding. Breakfast was a delight, sat in the early morning sunshine; bliss. Rarely do we revisit a hotel/ location, always seeking a new experience. However, the whole family agreed that we would like to return, and hope to do so next summer.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you are looking for a hotel in this area stay here. Comfortable. Spotlessly clean room, with a great shower. Incredibly friendly hosts who provided a fantastic dinner and breakfast, taken on the veranda watching the world go by. All very reasonably priced and located in a nice spot by the river. If you are travelling like us, it is easy to find and close to the major routes. Also, there is an intermarche 5mins away to top up fuel and provisions. Thank you for your hospitality Fred and Wendy

Cons: a bit expensive for the area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything revisited after 10yrs Still lovely surprise for my partner The staff were amazing Great food
Cons: The fact we couldn't stay longer
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a nice hotel, in a good location. Something different from the "chain" style hotel. Fittings in the hotel and rooms are good quality and the room are a good size. We had 4 people (2 children aged 15 and 17) and extra beds were provided. Despite this, there was still a fair amount of room. Breakfast buffet is reasonable, with a reduced rate (50%) for the children. The indoor swimming pool in the entrance area is a nice feature. Parking perfectly placed near the rooms. Lovely garden.
Cons: We like cooked eggs for breakfast, but they only provided cold boiled eggs. Bit of a shame there, but rest of the breakfast was fine. The restaurant was closed on the Sunday we arrived, this wasn't clear on the booking. Fortunately only a short walk into Brioude to find something there.

Cons: Having to leave.

Pros: A real treat! We booked on the spur of the moment arriving 40minutes after booking and given a warm friendly welcome by Michelle and Bernard. We left rested and revitalised after a good sleep delicious breakfast and stimulating conversation. Perfect
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location in he middle of the countryside, located in a beautiful small village. Only 2 rooms and offered table d'hote for an evening meal which althogh not exactly to my taste was of a very high quality and tasty. Interesting evening as are with French family whose English was limited but more than my French ( very embarrassed as how bad my French is) rooms are very wel appointed and spotless. Comfortable beds but if you are 6 ft tall then may occur feet catching bottom railings on bed. Breakfast was croissant and bread but more than acceptable. Hosts were very personable and helpful
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly hosts, lovely welcoming family environment. Beautiful house, with peaceful surroundings. Room was large, comfortable and perfectly clean. Breakfast was great, cooked to order with great choice.

Pros: Very friendly owners providing excellent service and food.
Cons: No complaints.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our Hosts Michelle and Bernard were most welcoming, could not do enough for us !!
Cons: Nothing could have made our stay any better
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A truly exceptional six course dinner with the FINEST and FRESHEST local cuisine. (Local meaning from right there, not "regional" from an area store). And attentive engaged service from Michele and Barnard.
Cons: Everything was FANTASTIC.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners were extremely helpful, and the husband (sorry I've forgotten his name) went to great lengths to tell us all about the village and to check the details of a concert we wished to attend at the nearby castle. Madame arranged our "table d"hôte" (we were the only guests) so that we could get to the concert in good time. It's a lovely property with lots of interesting features and furnishings.
Cons: Parking in the small courtyard and especially getting out again (though guided by Monsieur) is rather tricky.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: You will not find a more welcoming couple anywhere as Michelle and Bernard. Meal was delicious and we felt we had made new friends. Nearby there are chateaux to visit. First time we have awarded 10/10!

7.5 Good
Pros: My room at the Annexe, which is separate from the hotel, was nice.
7.0 Good
Cons: Fragmented. Main hotel not used or available. We stayed in annexe which was some way away and restaurant even further.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The annexe was clean and very comfortable and we were served well at breakfast. Parking for our motorbikes was very secure.
Cons: I tried to book a meal ahead of our arrival several times having read good reviews about the restaurant in the actual hotel - because it was my husband’s birthday. I received no response and then we were directed to eat at the sister hotel La Sapiniere instead on arrival. The food here was utterly tasteless and the staff were rushing guests on a breakneck pace, snatching plates away before you had hardly finished. It was a conveyor belt.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The accomodation was excellent and the restarant was even better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.Really good breakfast... The hotel was easy to find in the centre of the town.
Cons: Whilst you could not fault anything with regard to the overall experience it is a strange sort of set up. We checked in at the hotel but our room and car parking was in the annexe about 250 yards up the road. The reastaurant was a further 250 yards up the road(in their sister hotel/restaurant on that particular evening) but the breakfast and checkout was in the annexe. However this did not detract from our opinion of the hotel
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The annexe is like a ghost hotel ,no staff ,almost no guests,it is absolutely soulless.its disgusting that it can be advertised as a hotel where guests are welcomed into surroundings where they feel relaxed and at home. A key code to get in and no one present. God help anyone if there was an incident,a fire ,or other unexpected intrusion. Oh an aged scruffy man turned up to take payment before you were let out . Thoroughly misrepresentation and will think twice before ever using booking .com com again

Cons: It’s 2 hotels in one. The distinction isn’t clear.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in a very clean and comfortable room in the annex. I was made to feel very welcome when I arrived in the rain on my bike. There was secure storeroom for my bike and the staff offered a warm place for me to dry my clothes. Breakfast was fantastic with a wide range of options.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: People were extra friendly, made dinner into a fantastic meal. Even though our french is limited, because of the staff everyone was interacting.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great room, bed and bathroom. Easy access with luggage, lift available.
Cons: Security at the Annexe: no code on the door all day and not staffed.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: We enjoyed our one night stay at this property. It's a smart eco property with very clean lines and we had a lovely large bedroom. It's situated in a pretty area which is very quiet. We were pleased to be invited to dinner with our hosts who provided a lovely meal with wine and local cheeses, and excellent company. We were unable to use the natural swiming pool due to stormy weather but it looked most inviting.
Cons: There is nothing to dislike at this property,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet valley position, and really good facilities in a beautiful area, so we booked an extra day. The owners were very friendly and were great company at our evening meal, which was the most delicious home made food made from local ingredients. We would recommend the place to anyone, and would definitely try to go back if we were ever in the area again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, beautiful garden, temperature controlled room of a good size. Our hosts were superb making us feel like one of the family, and the food was outstanding and taken as part of the family which made for a very enjoyable experience.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very hospitable hosts. Lovely homegrown and homemade produce for dinner and breakfast. A convenient stopping place on a journey through France on the A75.
Cons: The village itself is not the most interesting place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: An enjoyable multi-lingual evening with our hosts and family at the shared dinner table; good simple food, nothing pretentious. An attractive decking area in front of our room opened up on the natural swimming pool (which was the home of one very noisy frog overnight)
Cons: Small room, simply but attractively furnished. Breakfast was rather basic (home-made bread and jams, yoghurt only). Nothing doing in the village, but still makes for a pleasant stroll on a summer's evening

Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners John and his wife were lovely and very accommodating. Beautiful old building. Grounds were lovely to walk around.
Cons: Bed was a little hard and furnishings were a bit dated.
6.8 Good
Pros: We loved the setting and the room, which was very big and classically decorated for a family of 4. The gardens and view around the property were beautiful.
Cons: We arrived when the reception was filled with all sorts of arty people and we stood around for quite a while until we finally got pointed out that we had to ring the doorbell. Very odd all that. We did not appreciate that there was absolutely no WiFi at all, as we did have to catch up on a bit of work every day, even though it said that there was. Something to do with the thunderstorm, which we did not believe, as when the weather cleared, there was still nothing. We also asked for a recommendation for a restaurant with a bit more French traditional dishes and where told that there were none in the area and referred to a pizza restaurant down the road. On approaching the pizza place, we noticed the Restaurant Hotel Les Glycines, which we then also went to. We had a a wonderful evening with great service and traditional French food, no thanks to our hosts recommendation. The WiFi and restaurant lies were disappointing.

Pros: Staff, room, food in restorant
Cons: Bit to expensive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities Staff Breakfast
6.8 Good
Pros: Our room was in nice quiet outbuilding behind hotel.
Cons: Room small for a quad room.
7.0 Good
Pros: The front desk staff were nice. The hotel's restaurant offered, for once, a kids' menu that had something else than nuggets, thanks for that!
Cons: The hotel was ok for a 1-night stay but it was rather basic. The pool was good for the kids and the breakfast was fine. All in all, nothing bad to say as it was a 3-star hotel stop on a road trip but I would not recommend for a longer stay.
7.0 Good
Pros: We liked the property because it is on the route of our destination in the south of France. It is situated near the highway so we didn’t have to make a grand tour to reach the hotel. The staff was very kind and speed English well. Something you don’t see very often in France. The room was clean and comfortable. Somethings at a bit dated, but seriously good enough for a short stay. We didn’t use the pool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location close to town centre. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well furnished.
Cons: We got an email the day before our arrival advising that the restaurant would not be open. We were initially pretty annoyed that they didn't let us know sooner as we would have looked for accommodation elsewhere, however it was just a short walk into the town centre and the hotel gave us some recommendations where to eat.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Secure parking and ease of access to motorway. Proximity to town is useful and TV had UK channels.
Cons: Meals are slightly overpriced so we ate in town.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Conveniently situated off the motorway for overnight stop and easy walk into Issoire. Good hotel , nice garden and swimming pool. Excellent restaurant and friendly efficient staff.
Cons: Lack of staff. The very efficient friendly girl on reception also served in the bar and dealt with all the queries. Our room was good and clean. However our friends room had a pool of blood behind the toilet . Unacceptable. The hotel was full so they could not be moved and there was no manager on duty or anyone available to clean it up. The sole girl on duty n the morning, serving breakfast, clearing up and also checking out guests was extremely sympathetic, agreed it should not have been missed and offered compensation. No complaint at all with the two girls on duty, both deserve a pay rise, but lack of staff, supervision of cleaners, or someone to take charge of problems was not good. It needs to be addressed.

Pros: If you enjoy how The French are skilled tat providing an old hotel where only the minimum of upgrades to modernity have been done, leaving one comfortable with wonderful period features, solid hardwood floors etc, I’m sure you will enjoy this hotel as much as I. The location by the small lake is prity in itself it makes an ideal base for this great part of France
Cons: Not many good restaurants nearby
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a very nice friendly place. The location is beautiful, the area is amazing. The hotel is a bit old, but well maintained and the owners are working on it to make it even better. Highly recommended. The only thing missing is a big family room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful view on the lake.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was adequate but basic. It had no frills and could do with an upgrade in the decor. The bed was extremely comfortable but lacked a headboard. The bathroom was of a very high standard. The ambiance in the lounge and breakfast room was not brilliant but passable. The location on the Lac Chambon was beautiful.
Cons: It was a very nice hotel but didn’t warrant a 3* rating - at most a 2*

Our host was very welcoming and breakfast was good. The fridge and safe in the room were a bonus. Easy parking. We would be happy to stay again.
Cons: For a longer stay - ours was just 2 nights - we would have liked more storage space.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a room with a small balcony that overlooked the lake and afforded beautiful views. Parking was easy and right outside the hotel. The hotel is in a good location for exploring the Auvergne. The staff were lovely and friendly.
Cons: Parts of the hotel are looking a little tired. Our bed was a bit hard. The road outside is sometimes noisy.

8.6 Excellent (175 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Le Grillon in Chambon-sur-Lac, you'll be steps from Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park and a 4-minute drive from Chateau de Murol. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The people running this place seem to really care about it, and it shows. The food is superb, the service is wonderful, my room was clean and comfortable. Yes, the decor is a little old-fashioned, but very well maintained. I'd rather stay somewhere like this than a hotel that's been gutted and redecorated on the cheap. The important things are good - comfortable bed, softest cotton sheets, good shower, and genuinely warm service. It's like staying at the home of kindly family friends who cook really well
Cons: The location is not the best but it's a short stroll to the lake so I'd still choose to stay here because everything else is so good
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: within walking distance of the beach and the lake
Cons: The decor and layout of the rooms - awful. The reviews said it was an excellent restaurant - looked more like a 1950s boarding house all closed up before 9pm. Room not cleaned properly. The flies!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing position. Plenty of parking. Easy walk to lake with good facilities there.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Little baguettes hard. Sliced baguettes better. The choice of breakfast is better than any other chain. Having a person on reception 24hours is amazing as we arrived after midnight.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is an excellent budget-style hotel, situated just off the auto-route. It is a modern building which offers surprisingly roomy accommodation, modern bathroom and plenty of parking; and with efficient air conditioning ( particularly welcome in the “ canicule”! ).The breakfast is very good indeed, buffet style with plenty of choice. There is no restaurant, but there is a good auberge within easy walking distance. This is a very good value stop over.
Cons: Nothing. This hotel provides what it says.
