Pros: We had a wonderful stay at Casa Carvalhal. The beautiful house is located in a pretty small village with several resaurants and is a good base for exploring the area. We were warmly welcomed by Herman and Luc. We stayed in a very comfortable, luxury , clean double room with terrace .There was also a large shared living room at our disposal, where Herman and Luc joinded us for a nice conversation. They were very attentive, with an eye for detail. Breakfast was super with fresh fruits, local cheese and meat, homemade granola and jams. We were here for 3 nights but would have liked to stay longer to view more of the surroundings and enjoy the beautiful garden. Conclusion: if you want, for example, to visit Coimbra or Serra de Lousa with beautiful schist villages, or you like to cycle in a beautiful landscape on the Ecopista do Dao, then Casa Carvahal is highly recommended. Herman and Luc, thank you very much for your hospitality and good care!
Pros: The only think what I can say is perfect. Owners are super simpatics, they have just started this bussiness, but they do it very well. Breakfast is a dream with fresh fruit, fresh orange juise, fresh bread. ect. Coffee is in every variation, actually I had double expresso every morning :D Restaurants and river beaches are in walking distance. We go back next year. If someone likes to make a rest in the middle of the nature, is a perfect choice.
Pros: We were the first guests since change of ownership. Amazing knowledgeable hosts, very clean, large bedroom + private bathroom, common area has relaxing atmosphere with nice fireplace, refined furniture and decor, generous healthy breakfast and top notch coffee.
Pros: Excellent breakfast exceeded expectations with all the right local ingridients for a healthy and tasty breakfast, super clean room and bathrooms, wide and very confortable beds, modern spartan and best of breed construction materials for a cozy and at the same time elegant experience, with state of art tech all around and also super wifi for the kids to check on YouTube or netflix and more than enough for savvy work oriented to be up to date with emails, and all of it extremely well managed by two fantastic hosts.
Cons: Inside the rooms the wooden walls are brand new and still bear an intense smell, which for those who have some allergies or asthma or more sensitive olfact can feel some discomfort
Pros: It´s a good localion, the owners are very nice, quite helpfull and they will be there for whatver you need. They also keep the house in perfect state and you will find everything perfetc and clean. Breakfast above the average and all natural I strongly advice your staying in this house and location. I will repeat the experience
Cons: I would put more pillows in the room, thicker ones. For me the ones were too thin
Pros: It was an amazing experience, everything was really Nice specially the owners. Very kind. House trully cozy. We Will Come back for sure. 5 stars

Pros: A traditional house in a small village about 6km from Góis. Well equipped kitchen and large sitting room with log fire for guests to use. Also sheltered walled patio area outside. Friendly and helpful owner.
Cons: For us, with only bicycle transport, it was further from the bars and restaurants of Góis than we expected. But the owner organized a taxi for us.
Pros: This is a place where you feel like you have broken the visitor-host barrier. This is where you feel like apart of Portugese familiy. Like visiting your Portugese relatives for a while. Respect it guys!
Pros: The owner, João, is a great host and makes you feel very comfortable as if you are at your place. The facilities are really nice and very convenient. All in all it’s a great value for money and a great experience.
Pros: Very friendly, beautiful decoration, nice staff
Pros: I loved the fireplace and the heat it provided....plus the great housecoat and slippers for us......all good!!
Cons: maybe some fruit or a variety like oatmeal, toast for breakfast ….other then that it was all good :)
Pros: Stayed in 21 Portuguese lodgings in a month-long bicycle tour. Sotam Country House was the single best place I stayed. Quaint, quiet, excellent service by John, fast wi-fi, great price, and an excellent kitchen. Superb customer service and just a terrific place. Extremely recommended. - Scot
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
Pros: The whole place is wonderful , and jyst outside his home runs a river "breath taking" & peacefull village. Joào is lovely young lad, very helpful, made us a beautiful breakfast , and he made his own scone's and croissants
Pros: Garden was so peaceful. House really quirky, really comfortable bed John very friendly and helpful
Pros: Perfectly clean, fabulously decorated, unusual place
Pros: After a nice long motorbike drive while doing the N2 route on an extremely hot day, we reached the most quaint space. We parked just outside and our host Joāo was there to welcome us within two minutes of speaking to him on the phone, glad to help us with anything we need. Afterwards we met Feijóca, the new addition to the house staff, a cute friendly black cat who just wants lots of love :) . Although our room was not very spacious it was enough for us and had a private bathroom. The room had air conditioning (a bit noisy) but during the night it wasn't necessary with the open window we enjoyed the cool night air and the country sounds. The old house feels almost magical with its quaint decoration (my compliments to Joâo's mother :) ) and different spaces and garden. The all house feels clean, fresh and welcoming! A very nice breakfast with homemade cake, different jams (again, my compliments to Joâo's mother!), freshly squeezed orange juice, country bread, coffee, tea, cheese, ham made us feel like home while talking to Joâo, always in a good humour and happy to help! Couldn't leave without saying goodbye to Feijóca (the cat)!!! Joāo take care of your arm, thanks for making us feel welcomed and for the photo!!! Take care of Feijóca, she is a very nice PR for the Sotam House!! :) Sorry to leave, will certainly recommend!!!
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect.

Cons: All perfect!
Pros: We really enjoyed this place. Donna Lurdes was very helpful and friendly. The room was amazing - super clean with great view at the mountains. We felt that CN does everything for their clients. Breakfast was great - big choice of meet, cheese cereals and fruits. Hot bread was impressive. We are going to come back again for sure :)
Pros: Great renovation of old schist house with good interior decor ideas. Good that you could do your own self catering. Great terrace with spectacular views. Good breakfast and good housekeeper. Very quiet.
Cons: Not easy to get to - especially in the dark with winding, unlit roads with sheer drops. No dedicated parking. Extremely quiet when we were there - we were the only guests. No information on local attractions, restaurants etc.

Pros: Sooo stylish.
Cons: Sacrificed a little bit of practicality for style. No desk in room. Hard to work.
Pros: The hosts were wonderful - very welcoming. The place is beautiful, as are the rooms (and the linens are gorgeous and impeccably ironed). And I can't say enough positives about the food, both breakfast and the optional dinner. We also enjoyed some fun conversations, both among ourselves and with other guests, in the ground floor lounge. A five-star experience.
Pros: its the best hotel had
Pros: The setting is very nice and the accommodations are spread out over several buildings. We were there in late September so we ate both dinner and breakfast on the terrace. They have a beautiful pool area with an honor bar and on the lower level of the main house another honor bar witch is well stocked with all sorts of wine, and anything else you may get wish to drink. The main house also has nice public rooms including a living room, the honor bar and pretty dining room. Both the dinner and breakfast were both good but nothing outstanding. If you are looking for a place to break up a drive between Evora and the Douro Valley this is a good choice.
Cons: Nothing was wrong but if you like having a box of tissues in your room then bring it with you as none of the properties we have stayed in provided them.
Pros: lovely breakfast outside quiet accomodation , great rooms beautifull location good dinner wonderfull house!
Cons: Pool not operational for our stay

Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Pros: Easy to find , in a quite location , bikes park outside under bedroom window . Interesting looking at all the photographs of rally cars from the last thirty years as the hotel is used as a stop in the Rally of Portugal . Breakfast was good , set us up for the day .
Cons: Only a small problem but as it was a twin room we had to slide a bed to one side to access the balcony , would not be a problem if it was a double .
Pros: Good Value for money at this time of the year. Good location, ample car park. Easy to find and just a few steps away from shops and restaurant.
Pros: Excellent breakfast. Way better than you could expect from such hotel. Confortable bar with a fireplace to give ambiance. Typical hotel of the 80s. Keeps this atmosphere a bit retro already but that gives it a special touch. Place where WRC staff used to stay when doing the WRC Portugal rally. Keeps lots of memories of these times (70s and 80s).
Cons: I booked one room at a 49EUR/night rate but they billed 59EUR/night. Probably because we brought two children (6 ad 10 y.o.). However it is written that "all children below 12 y.o. can stay without any additional cost". We did not complained as 59EUR/night for 4 is more than reasonable. A comment not related with the hotel but worth to make. Arganil district was destroyed by a fire some 2 years ago. The surroundings areas are still very dramatically affected with no signs of regeneration. So, if planning to do some nature please choose elsewhere, and by the way, thank the government for allowing so many eucalyptus and pine trees totally covering the otherwise wonderful Arganil district mountains. It came a fire and the rest is history. Only a few spots survived such as a couple of hectares surrounding the village of Piodão... So if planning to come, bring a tree!
Pros: Hotel was warm and cozy - dressed tastefully for Christmas. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Bedrooms were standard fare but warm, clean and comfortable. All in all a great stopover.
Pros: Great location. Very helpful reception. Great local restaurant. Grilla or similar
Pros: Good spread at breakfast
Pros: Lovely and traditional
Cons: No tea or coffee in the rooms
Pros: Good variety for breakfast. Room clean but a little dated, beds firm but comfy enough
Cons: No restaurant on site for meals, but a good cafe within 100m No tea/coffee or minibar in room
Pros: Everything was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff even went out of its way to make breakfast early because I had to check out early to attend an event. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Pros: Location. Cleanliness. Staff. Lovely welcome. Excellent value for money. Great bed. Air conditioned and a great breakfast
Cons: Nothing about hotel. However a Grab and Go has opened out the front and friends had a front room which was noisy when night club spilled out and they all congregated on the green in front of hotel
Casa do Alto - Benfeita is located in Benfeita and offers a garden, barbecue facilities and a terrace. The bed and breakfast features mountain views and is 24 km from Piódão. This bed and breakfast comes with a dining area, a flat-screen TV, a DVD player and a kitchen with a microwave.
Pros: The house has been remodeled to a high standard - very nice throughout. And the location is great as you feel a small part of the community. And the double terrace (half covered, half not) isn't to be missed. It's a little ways from where you park (maybe 100 feet), but is a bit steep, so if you have trouble walking it may not be ideal.
Cons: The two single beds in the loft aren't very long (I'm 5'8" tall and kept hitting my feet on the footboard).
Pros: I liked everything about this place.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
Set in Góis, Casa Ferreira features a garden, shared lounge, BBQ facilities, and free WiFi. Featuring a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with a terrace. Guests at the guest house can enjoy a continental breakfast. Hiking and cycling are among the activities that guests of Casa Ferreira can find nearby. Coimbra is 41 km from the accommodation, while Lousã is 12 km away.
Pros: Cute little family house. We had the house to ourselves, as no one had booked the other rooms. It was clean and comfy. The owners were really friendly and gave us some tips to visit a couple of xist towns nearby.
Pros: We liked how welcome we were made to feel in the small villiage just outside of Gois. Everyone was very helpful and we enjoyed a good night in the local cafe where we met Keen the cafe owner and his family. Mr Eddie, Victor the local builder and Anna the amazing Swiss interpreter made it a lovely stay and if we are ever back in the area we will spend time there again.
Cons: Our first night was very cold as it was the coldest February on record for Portugal apparently, and the dogs fighting in the square first thing in the morning was a little irratating.
Pros: The hosts are so lovely that will make you feel at home!! The house is close to an amazing river beach, right in the mountains where you can get lots of sun and fresh air!

Pros: Really nice accommodation, very clean and comfortable. Josephine is very kind and made us feel like we were at home. Truly recommendable.
Pros: The house was nice
Cons: We did not like the behaviour of the host she received us at the door and did not allow us in until we paid an extra 40 eu for breakfast for a 9 years old child and then proceeded to demand an extra 30 for an 8 years old child when we were leaving completely in acceptable
