it was handy for the shops and the night life would deffinatly stay there again
friendly, helpful staff. Good food Hard bed
Wasn't to pleased with room it said deluxe, wasn't very deluxe to me. Breakfast was awful think it was cooked in deep fat drier.won't be staying again. Breakfast and room
the location fo the hotel was fantastic
I'm not prone to negative reviews--but felt compelled to write this one. The staff is terrific--but otherwise this is a vaguely dirty, slightly gross, mediocre hotel. Breakfast was badly done and in a large ballroom with dozens of pensioners on holiday. The room was badly stained, unkempt, with one of the worst beds I've encountered in over a million miles of traveling. Avoid if possible.
central position bed too small for 2 people
The welcome, the pool and breakfast
friendly staff, good central position The executive room was very small though well equipped.
The log fire in the foyer as it was freezing weather at the time. A warmer more welcoming sitting area in the bar is necessary.
I liked the internal archtecture of the hotel.which was classic and tasteful. The sash windows rattle during the windy nights.
The ocation was good but hard to find The staff were not very friendly and when we arrived we had to get housekeeping up to clean the toilet, there was crusted grim under the rim, hey did fix as soon as we asked but it was obvious that it had been there for some time. On his I would not recommend
Centrally located, helpful staff Near to night clubs, first room very noisy, asked to move and 2nd night was fine.
Good central location and suprisingly queit considering we were in the main "Clubbing" street Pillows a bit thin and no spares in the room
It was close to the station and had 24 hour service. The room was cold and a bit basic
Central location! Right in the middle of all pubs and restaurants. Spacious room Shower was interesting, though flooding bathroom was easy to do. Breakfast not included and £7 for continental so didnt bother
Its location in the centre of town, its value for money price, the reasonable check in and out times and its simple but comfortable and well equipped rooms.
Great location, central to night-life. Understand that if you book here it can be noisy. Unless you are too drunk to notice !
An Ibis is an Ibis. Cheap internet/tv/movie package. Police presence in reception for most of the evening provided extra security! An unfortunate incident in the bar led to the bar being closed early and the opportunity to spend some time with half the Cumbrian Police force discussing the merits of policing such an area whilst their colleagues dealt with the incident.
Courtesy and friendliness of staff was very good
Handy for the station as was due to travel early following morning by train on a business trip though weather in end prevented this
Good location Poor shower always runs cold and hot
It was all lovely
Despite the weather, which turned whilst we were there the staff and facilities were excellent. Nothing :-)
Nice, clean, good quality hotel with good facilities including, of course, the Pool and Spa. Kids room with Wii, PS2, Pool table, Air Hockey and boarad games was a nice addition. The room was very well appointed with a very high quality bathroom and nice furnishings. TV had a number of Sky channels. Overall a very nice place to stay. Room was a little noisy, not so much in the night but certainly in the morning when people were in the corridor outside. I wouldn't let this put me off returning though.
Immediate email response to request for dinner reservations somewhat impersonal
the spa facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpfull and good parking facilities. I thought £145 for room only was expensive and that the bedroom and bathroom should be updated for that sort of money. Also the breakfast service could be more efficient
Very nice welcome and all the staff tried very hard to make the stop enjoyable. Chap who sorted our bikes into the store was excellent and smiled away even in the rain. Loved the place and will be back again. Perfect start to our long weekend away. Spar very good and kids loved the games room. Think some of the meals were too expensive - ended up eating out as young family of four - too much for a short break.
Being upgraded to a suite I thought the food in the restaurant was a bit disappointing, it wasn't as good as I'd have expected. My duck was pretty tasteless and the scallops were drowning in cheese and fat.
My husband and I like to stay at the north lakes hotel because it is a wonderful halfway point when we are travelling down south and we know we will be given first class service. We also enjoy the homely log fires etc. This Hotel gives us everything we expect from a Hotel. On arrival we sometimes feel that some areas are fully occupied with business people on mobiles and computers treating these areas as they would an office.
Staff were friendly and willing to listen No
It was great as a halfway stop for us, i also found the hotel very relaxing but family oriented at the same time. We will be back :) We had Breakfast delivered to room and there was no where to put tray apart from bed which is not ideal when you have children and wasn't to impressed with breakfast!
We were given a cottage room. Outstanding
Everything would have been good except there was a wedding on and the noise kept us awake till gone midnight. Our room was directly over the reception and it would have been better if we were elsewhere in the hotel.
nice well planned room. good reception and dining room staff. good pool and health centre. had to step out in rain to reach main part of hotel from room.
location of the hotel and the general feeling of the hotel made it an enjoyable stay.
The quality of the food and wine in the bar area was of a lower standard than we expected
very pleasant staff, clean rooms, lovely village/country location steam room was out of order, only 5 choices of main course in the restaurant at night time.
Staff ensured there was a good atmosphere throuout. Leasure facilities were better maintained than a lot of the larger more expensive chain hotels we have stayed at. Even the downside of a wedding reception was well managed as we were given a room as far away from the event as possible.
The location to Carlisle was very convenient as we were en route to Scotland. Closeness to a railway station means we may visit again and travel on public transport. Setting and food great.
The location was ideal for my business trip
The staff were friendly and helpful
the breakfasts were very good - cooked to individual tastes. The log fires were a nice touch. The views were lovely. the bathroom had enormous cobwebs! it could also have been better without carpets which were a bit stained.
It was convient for motorway and was ideal for one night stop over. Fabulous views and pleasnt garden Main bar room could do with a bit of a makeover as it could be very attractive.
Very quiet, peaceful surroundings, lovely comfortable room, excellent staff Whereas the rooms and breakfast are first class, the hallways and stair carpets are are old and smelly, could do with a lick of paint, but i am nit picking here.
Very friendly staff, hotel in a wonderful location with wonderful views, very good quality room and breakfast. Bar looked nice with open fire, although did not use
The hotel is wonderfully peaceful, a real retreat. The staff were excelllent. The hotel needs to desperately add an entrance sign at the front of the lane which leads to the hotel, as impossible to spot in the dark. Getting lost on those dark lanes was not the most pleasant intro to my stay.
A medium sized Georgian House / Hotel, we had an excellent large bedrooom, with a kingsize bed, and a large bathroom. The room was very quiet, and the Hotel is set in beautiful contryside over looking the Edan valley, but not too far off the beaten track, better appreciated in the long summer evenings. The food was very good. No.
Pleasant surroundings, very peaceful and residents lounge very quiet and relaxing.
Friendly helpful staff Room was not particularly clean. Blankets and cover needed freshening up.
Top quality from a small establishment. All the things you would expect in a 5* hotel We could not fault the service , the food and room We would recommend our friends to stay here and if we are in that area we will stay again
Location, people, facilities and all the options
The food, the rooms and the hotel was excellent. Nothing we enjoyed everything.
This is an excellent up-market B&B, with those few extra creature comforts in a modern elegant building, set in quiet beautiful grounds. A very good breakfast, very welcoming, we would recommend it highly. We only chose this B&B as they advertised special evening meals. After booking and our £50 non returnable deposit had been taken, were we then informed that they did not do evening meals on Sundays. On arrival they had very kindly booked us a restaurant a mile or so away, but we had taken a picnic as we did not wish to drive.
We were made to feel very welcome and at home. The food was lovely, the location peaceful and beautiful, and the atmosphere was relaxing. Our room was fresh, clean and very comfortable. All in all, it was a great place to stay!
An amazing place to stay - a truly relaxing experience. Lovely people in a lovely place. Beautiful room and large airy bathroom. Food to die for and a breakfast to keep you going all day. Definitely a place to go again.
Excellent rooms The evening meal was a little over-cooked.
have a great time eating, chatting to owners and generally chilling out no nothing
we stayed in the willow room and it was beautiful, couldnt fault anything there was plenty of towels, the bed was comfortable didnt want to get up. The breakfast was great and plentiful. Everyone was so friendly and helpful really couldnt fault anything.
WAs a fantastic place with very friendly hosts, will def be back
Convenient to City centre, Hotel lobby and reception very impressive, room was comfortable. Outside our room on arrival there was a tray with food on it and it was still there when we returned later in the evening, the window sash was black with mildew and did'nt look like it had been cleaned in months.
Staff were nice and pleasant Cleanliness of the room. Pink feather and crumbs in the bed (which were not ours!!). Dust around skirting board and mold on the shower head!!! Noise from outside air conditioning unit which carried on all night and disturbed sleep!! Have advised the hotel of these problems.
value for money. Restaurant food - excellent. Express my congratulations to the chef.
Friendly staff, good food
The hotel was well looked after in every detail and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast service was a little disappointing as we had to request everything individually from additional butter, orange juice and milk. The cooked breakfast could not be faulted but the buffet table for fruit, cereal and yogurt was very poorly presented.
Comfortable beds, lots of hot water, friendly staff
Excellent service from the hotel staff when checking in and in the restaurant. The quality of the food was very good and was good value for money. Our room overlloked an alley where bins were stored and these were moved noisily at about 5:00 am disturbing our sleep. As can be expected in a central town location, there was also noise from late night revellers outside the hotel!
Location to train station, great for late arrivals. I also arranged for a hire car to be left in the hotel carpark.
Very convenient to station. A great traditional hotel. Recommended. Superb breakfast! No biscuits in rooms!
Everything was clean and everyone was very nice. Could have done without the wedding 'music' on the Friday night and the room was slightly warm
Superb hospitality and fantastic home cooking. Easy access to Culgaith from the a66.
Alex & Jeff were very friendly and accommodating. My fiance and I had to get up very early the following day and Alex & Jeff had no problem serving us breakfast at a much earlier time. We were also able to return to the hotel after our excursion to shower and dress before heading leaving. Jeff's home made bread at breakfast and the home made preserves were a lovely addition to an absolutley lovely, peaceful and relaxing stay. There was nothing we did not like or enjoy about the hotel.
Our stay at Laurel House was without doubt the best weekend break we have ever had in many years. Jeff and Alex were the most attentive, caring proprietors one could wish for. We felt so much a part of the home, particularly so, on our Sunday morning breakfast, which we shared, and enjoyed, with a Scottish couple, and two Japanese archaeology students. A really "international breakfast". Jeff and Alex's attention to their guests, ensuring they had wonderfully comfortable beds, and quite incredible breakfasts, is what they are all about. They have based their provision on what they would want - they have excelled! We will be back within the next month or so, and have already recommended "Laurel House" to our friends. Going home!
the friendly atmosphere, comfortable, clean, excellent food and the owners made our stay very enjoyable
Excellent stanards. Very hospitable owners. Spotlessly clean. Extremely comfortable. Breakfast wonderful. Highly recommended. None
Thanks for host & hostes 's good & worm treatment
Very good hosts and a beautiful place to stay None
Unable to fault any part of our stay. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Accommodation spotless and food first class None
The amazingly warm welcome, company and gorgeous food. The lovely house and super comfortable bed. There is nothing that can be faulted. A very unique place!
the service was fantastic and the evening meal was fantastic. a great allround stay
Friendly atmosphere, very good accommodation, good service and food. Large indoor swimming pool. Rural setting.
Jack and the others succeed in making their guests feel at home. Our visit to Bessiestown felt like meeting old friends - though we had never been there before. The atmosphere is so friendly and relaxed. In fact out visit to Bassiestown left nothing to be desired. For Dutch visitors: zeer zeker een aanrader!
It was night stay before a business visit to nearby town. It was a very comfort time staying in the hotel.
The overall cleanliness of the Guesthouse and the food...well, it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The freindly staff made our stay extra relaxing and the local knowledge and advise given made our walking the area great. 10 out of 10 to Jack and Margaret...we will return to them in the future.
We stayed here as a base for our wedding in Gretna Green and everybody was so friendly and couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Fantastic location to get away from it all. Meals were great too.
Beautiful, upgraded to a cottage on arrival, food was delicious, and the staff extremely helpful. There is nothing that we didn't like. the whole stay was excellent value for money and the whole atmosphere was wonderful.
This b & b was just great! The room was super! It had an upstairs sitting area as well with tv, couch, chairs, dining area and kitchen. The owners were super friendly and helpful and the morning breakfast was sensational! There were no directions on the print-out on how to reach this place. We had to get directions from the local police. We mentioned this to the owner and he will, no doubt, correct this.
Convenient overnight stop off, very friendly owners, lovely place, would like to go back
Food, service and room was superb
fantastic hotel,excellent service,highly recomended
Room was very comfortable and bathroom very clean, staff very friendly and efficient, plenty parking, Would have liked a shower. Bed head was very dusty. Have got 7 bruses on legs from the bed post at foot of bed.
Very good hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent cooked breakfast and evening meals. Clean rooms and well serviced. Just the room size was a little too small. A spare blanket would be nice during cold spells.
We were made very welcome and the remises is furnished to a high standard The meals were huge and perhaps a bit more was wasted than necessary
Great ambiance on an evening. Friendly helpful owners. Excellant, value for money food Bit out of the way for some. Satnav had difficulty finding the village.
Friendly and obliging Room very clean with nice outlook. Hotel built in 1666 full of character. Shortage of clothes hangers and and usable surfaces No drinking glasses in the en-suite
cleanliness of room,friendly staff,nice food
Breakfast was excellent Rooms small
Personal Service. On our last night (of three), the Chef asked us what we would like for dinner, and cooked to order. The food was excellent. The staff were all very friendly and obliging.
A stunning location, a very comfortable room, good food and very friendly and helpful staff No complaints
Wonderful setting, excellent building and decor, nice friendly staff. Strange noises from plumbing. Should be more than four choices of main meal in the restaurant, although you have a reasonable choice in the bistro/bar area.
Peaceful and quiet - no noisy roads. Excellent scenery. High standard of decor.
the location is perfect for a relaxing chill out stay, great value, food in the resturant was very good, recommended will stay again.
first class professional smiling staff who went out of their way to be helpful, loved every minute,
Overall friendliness. Food was good.
Staff were all superb, nothing was too much trouble Our room was rather noisy as it was over the bar.
Beatiful hotel and setting with friendly helpful staff with a good ambience. the weather !!
The staff were very friendly. TV was too small and had poor reception.
No complaints. Excellent value for money, good location.
the service we received was very good ,,our room was very clean and tidy ,as was the bathroom, Breakfast was of a high standard. and we enjoyed our stay at that hotel .. no compaints
Everything, staff, atmosphere, food, restaurant, close to city centre and parks, was quiet , clean, enjoied the decorations of the hotel, that added personality.
The breakfast was good. We had a problem and the staff were good about fixing it an letting us know how things were progressing. The staff in the restaurant forgot us without apology, and stood near us looking at their watches during breakfast. The beds and pillows were hard, and the room was rather hot with no air conditioning. There is no lift, and the stairs are steep, long, and narrow.
Hotel staff were friendly friendly. Rooms were clean and spacious. Food was very tasty and drink prices reasonable. Good secure parking. Hotel could do with a refurb as it was very chintzy. Matresses were a bit too soft for our liking.
Location - convenient for railway station and city centre The heating could have been better for mid-November
good location, near to the train station and not too far from the centre of the city.reception was pleasant and helpfull.
The upgrade to room 114 The room allocated to us 129 was at the back of the hotel and the heating was v/poor as the radiator did not radiate properly - we woke up in the morning bitterly cold and to complel matters there was no hot water and we had to boil the kettle to wash - we explained this at reception and were moved to room 114 - which was perfect
A bit run down. Needs tidying.
Night Porter was there as I arrived very late and was very helpful with advice on the area
The service at reception was good. Felt very welcome and comfortable this is a difficult choice - Low energy bulbs are environmently friendly and cost effective and I advocate their use but it makes the room dark - it was difficult to work and read. internet access for business customers would be helpful
The filthy bathroom floor and the lack of hot water
The location was excellent for the purpose of my visit. However the hotel lacked atmosphere, breakfast very basic. The room was expensive for the size of it, very small, and cramped. However the bathrom was as big as the bedroom
We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the helpful staff, the hotel's location, our room was extremely comfortable and the food was lovely. N/A
