Food, service and room was superb
Room was very comfortable and bathroom very clean, staff very friendly and efficient, plenty parking, Would have liked a shower. Bed head was very dusty. Have got 7 bruses on legs from the bed post at foot of bed.
Very good hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent cooked breakfast and evening meals. Clean rooms and well serviced. Just the room size was a little too small. A spare blanket would be nice during cold spells.
Breakfast was excellent Rooms small
cleanliness of room,friendly staff,nice food
We were made very welcome and the remises is furnished to a high standard The meals were huge and perhaps a bit more was wasted than necessary
Great ambiance on an evening. Friendly helpful owners. Excellant, value for money food Bit out of the way for some. Satnav had difficulty finding the village.
Friendly and obliging Room very clean with nice outlook. Hotel built in 1666 full of character. Shortage of clothes hangers and and usable surfaces No drinking glasses in the en-suite
fantastic hotel,excellent service,highly recomended
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was large and well equipped. Black gunge around bath taps and tiles and bathroom tired and unfinished. Food just average pub grub
Good down to earth hospitality. Excellent beer and good food.
A nice atmosphere and staff friendly. The food was excellent. Very noisy overnight, due to boy racer on the main street, and road works started outside the hotel at 5.30am on the Saturday morning
nice spacious room
We stayed here three years ago and wanted to retun. Alston is a great base from which to explore the area either by walking (when its stays dry!) or by car (and not forgetting the narrow gauge train service just down the road). The hotel is momely, comfortable & good value for money, the staff are really friendly, but the icing on the cake is really the restaurant which offers a wide choice of menu, delicious food and very good value - its very popular with both visitors and locals. We hope to return again. As other visitors have said, the rooms are above the pub so it can be noisy in the evenings but we certainly weren't kept awake by this.
A friendly hotel with comfortable rooms and good home cooked food. A large bar area with coal fires and an excellent range of real ales to choose from. Following a good nights sleep, the English breakfast; which is excellent, will set you up for the day.
Friendly staff, excellent food (cooked to order breakfast was superb), clean and comfortable room. Pub was cosy with a wide selection of ales.
Friendliness of staff, good food & service, village and surroundings. Short notice booking excellent value for money, dog friendly, would recommend if you want a quiet break in fantastic surroundings without paying the extortionate and over rated prices of the lake district.
Clean and comfortable hotel, staff were freindly and helpful, if a little rushed off their feet! Quite noisy into the early hours as this is a pub/hotel, but no real complaints. Good as a stopover hotel.
large room with 3 single beds - lovely and warm - hotel quiet and well run - excellent English breakfast and good choice of food in the evenings - staff friendly and helpful.Good value for money
Character hotel with cask ales and a roaring fire!Welcoming landlord Having to book a time slot for breakfast - the place was not busy. Offhand attitude of one member of staff
Warm and comfortable. Friendly reception despite hotel not having recieved our on-line booking. Particularly delicious black pudding for breakfast! Smart-looking tv in bedroom said "No Signal" and there was no-one to fix it and no instructions. Booking confirmation message on how to get directions to hotel didn't work.
In terms of value for money quite good. Room was clean and equipped with everything you need for a quick overnight stay A sign outside offering breakfast to people between 8-10 on a weekend. But not to anyone apart from hotel guests. So why put a sign up??!!
