8.8 Excellent
Pros: We were welcomed by a very friendly host and hostess. They were able to provide a gluten and lactose free breakfast. The cosy bedroom felt homy. Quiet place to stay. We enjoyed the jacuzzi.
Cons: We enjoyed the breakfast. There's an elaborate buffet. I would however prefer to have a more limited choice of really good and fresh products.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent the hosts were very friendly and helpful. We even bought there home made honey. As we were staying extra nights the host said we could use the pool anytime, which was very much appreciated.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was a quaint little b&b in the country side and outskirts of Valenciennes. From the moment we arrived the owner was very helpful and made us feel welcomed and relaxed. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decor'd. The b&b is best accessed by car if you want to make the 6k journey into Valenciennes or take in the gorgeous countryside. The breakfast was delicious and included fresh local produce. Highly recommend this place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the house, the garden, the owners, the room, the cat
Cons: At furst, we were a bit disapointed at the sight of the front of the hotel and the gate, but every disapointness dissapeared when the gates opened up and revealed this little jewel in the middle of this tiny french town.

Overview Reviews
Located in Maresches, Hermitage Henry is a 1-minute drive from Avesnois Regional Nature Park and 9 minutes from Musee des Beaux-Arts. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were lovely and very helpful. The location was perfect for us, we were visiting Le Quesnoy for ANZAC celebrations, but we toured the beautiful French countryside also. The house and rooms are stunning, so tastefully and artfully presented, the facilities were great, and the grounds and general location so pretty and restful - we extended our stay. A perfect base to explore the area, or just rest from travels for a while.
Cons: Can't fault it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where do I start, this was the biggest surprise! The house was amazing and our rooms too, all differently decorated with eclectic furnishing and lighting, the latter all different throughout the house. The house is set in beautiful grounds surrounded by unbroken countryside with places to sit out in the evening with a drink and enjoy the views. Dianne and Frederik were great hosts who were around if we needed them but not intrusive. Breakfast was good quality everything and very enjoyable. There are common rooms guests can use with tea and coffee facilities. This chamber d’hotes would give any 5* Hotel a run for their money!
Cons: Nothing, nothing, nothing,
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Home made treats at breakfast, especially the French toast :-) A newly renovated and very tidy house. Spacious, well appointed bedrooms, with great art. Nespresso coffees in room and communal area. It was well located for our visit to Le Quesnoy.
Cons: Nothing really.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, calm house. The owners have very good advice about the best restaurants. Big garden with local wildlife, like rabbits and partridges. Breakfast is about the best you get in France! They even offer different types of cheese (which is very uncommon in France)!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were wonderful, the room was beautiful and the bed was great! Windows on two sides allowed for a breeze at night. The bathroom was modern and well designed. The food was incredible! It was our favorite so far this trip!
Cons: Nothing, would go back and stay at the first opportunity!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hosts Diane and Frédéric are great. They know lots about the area and what is going on. We enjoyed talking with them and learning about Valenciennes. They have done a beautiful job on renovating an old character home.
Cons: I can't imagine this stay having been any better, but people should be aware that it is not possible to walk to restaurants for dinner. You will need a car or bicycles. One day we got dinner from the grocery store in Préseau and ate in the back yard of Hermitage Henry -- very pleasant!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The manor house was tastefully renovated and our room very clean and comfortable. All set in a peaceful beautiful rural environment.
Cons: Nice breakfast but short on coffee
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Huge mansion. Huge room and bathroom. Very nice hosts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place. Quirky decor. Very pleasant owners.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The house was amazing. There was ample, secure parking. Breakfast was good with good quality food. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
Cons: It would have been nice to have had a kettle in our room instead of in a central location.

A stay at Maison Mathilde places you in the heart of Valenciennes, a 1-minute drive from Musee des Beaux-Arts and 11 minutes from Avesnois Regional Nature Park. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I always love returning to wonderful Maison Mathilde! Although the weather was grim (December!) the warm welcome and cosy rooms quickly made up for that! Michel made a point of providing an enormous breakfast and even drove me to my meeting when the taxi was blocked by a demonstration! The apartment is delightful - I love the deep fluffy carpet and the view of the beautiful old church beyond the garden. I also noticed a new addition to the family of rabbits roaming around the garden! The location is also very handy for visiting the attractive old part of town - with many charming shops and restaurants. I can highly recommend Maison Mathilde as one of the most unusual and delightful places to stay in Valenciennes.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Perfect breakfast, great Jacuzzi, really nice decorated room. And the mansion looked perfect. A hidden hem!
Cons: Maybe the matrasses and the pillow could use an upgrade... but that is to be over seen.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast with the best croissants! Nicely decorated room with Jacuzzi, walk in shower. Loved the mansion and garden.
7.5 Good
Pros: Property, rabbits, overall environment.
Cons: Expensive. Jacuzzi in room was a little odd.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: perfect place, excellent breakfast, very friendly people THANKS , Michel
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This property is lovely! Our room was spacious and much more like a small apartment then a simple room. It was very clean and comfortable, and very quiet for sleeping. The property owner was extremely welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Our host also recommended a wonderful restaurant within walking distance to the property. Breakfast was served at our leisure, prepared in the apartment by our host. We highly recommend this unique property.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellently refurbished and furnished historical building right in the centre of the city. Best for short weekend visit in short distance of shops and restaurants. Cosy and family like reception. Possibility for an extra bed for a younger child. Lovely breakfast with personal attention for a reasonable price.
Cons: Towels need to be provided according to number of client. Tea and water could be provided to welcome guest in addition to coffee.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located a little outside of the city centre of Valenciennes in a very beautiful house, also occupied by some elder people and students (I was told this, but I never saw them). The room is very private and comfortable. Very nice reception, I felt at home immediately. Will come back again!
Cons: Nothing, really.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My stay at Watt’home was splendid! Even though I was only there for one night, it provided excellent facilities in a romantically historic building. The staff were very kind, electing to give me a small tour of the home and despite a small language barrier, we’re extremely accommodating and answered my questions as best as they could. I assume that I am also considerably younger than their average guest, but I was still treated with respect which I am very grateful for.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The reception by the owner was very warm. He's really nice. The lady who served my breakfast on day 2 was also very nice and friendly. The house is really magnificent. I was actually expecting a hotel, but it appeared to be a "Chambre d'Hôte" wit a capacity of just one room. on the ground floor. The first floor is actually an elderly home ;-)
Cons: A few small things needed attention, wut they ware noted and I'm shore they already have been taken care of.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: When I arrived the host left her music loudly, so I could hear it from my Bedroom. There was also not enough hot water, so I could not take a bath. Except of that the facilities are very good, the room spacious and very clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely everything. Location was perfect. Hosts were amazing. It was like living in a Regency Home in a novel, with all the mod cons to boot. Didn't want to leave - asked the owners if we could just move in!
Cons: NOTHING! (Just note this is a B&B with one room available which I did not realize when booking.)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old house, inside like a castle. Big bedroom, beautifully decorated, big bathroom with tub, rainshower . Coffeemaker with some coffee samples in the room. Breakfast was served at a time that was convenient for the guests. Friendly staff, always willing to please. Like in a rental home, the staff did not tidy up the room, which was fine with us. Fresh towels (please note: in French "serviettes" like "napkins") were offered. Downtown is in walking distance. This is definitely a hotel like no other.
Cons: The plumbers must have mixed up cold and hot water: the toilet is flushed with hot (!) water and if you turn the faucet at the sink to "cold", you will get hot water and vice versa. But hey: this is France!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Casino experience - rooms & parking
Cons: Everything was ok
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Being a non French speaker I found the reception staff and restaurant staff still spoke enough English to make me feel comfortable. All the events I attended were in town so after a very well presented fresh breakfast I would walk in, only 15 minutes. Reception staff supplied me with a local map, and my only thing to say is it need to be clearer as maybe the printer did not have the definition. Excellent aftercare as my camera is in the post. Thank you Elise on reception, you smile and hello is in my memory. You were a great help to a foreigner.
Cons: Local map of streets could be better defined. Other than that which the hotel is not obliged to provide there are not faults. Good value and if a reason arises I will return.

Pros: the position is perfect is just in front of the railway station but still in a still area, the city center is 10 min walking far. Additionaly the cleanness was great.

Cons: The breakfast is a bit expensive considering what it is served. Not sure it is a regular issue, but the lift did not work well during the period of staying. When I left the hotel it was not working (stopped twice during the week), forcing me to carry all of my luggage from the second floor to ground.

Cons: The pillows on the bed were very thin, and we didn’t like the use of the blanket on the bed. The room Could use an update, Some fresh paint and new bedcoverings would do wonders for the room. We were in room D.

Pros: Auberge Du Bon Fermier was a really cool space. If you have more modern taste, it's maybe not for you. But my Dad and I love the history and the old feel of Auberge Du Bon Fermier and were so excited to stay here. It's located just near the old city, so walking everywhere was easy. Parking was the only issue we had; it's free, but only between 6pm and 9am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Felt like a medieval knight finding refuge after a quest to the Women’s World Cup
Cons: If lofted bathtubs aren’t your thing, stay elsewhere. But be more open minded about lofted bathtubs.

Pros: The building was authentic and well looked after. Our room on the ground floor was huge and beautiful. Breakfast was excellent. Location perfect. Nice ambience in bar. Staff were friendly.

Pros: Myself and 3 biking friends has 2 twin rooms with breakfast for a return journey to Chanel Tunnel - being around 2 hours away it was ideal. We paid around 70 euros per room inc breakfast. There was aircon and the room was very basic but clean. Plenty of parking space. Within 10 mins walk there were plenty of places to eat and a Lidl a couple of mins walk. Overall ideal for what we wanted.
Cons: It is in a fairly rough and run down location.

Pros: We were in town for the Women's World Cup. The location was very close to the stadium, and to a few restaurants, a pharmacy and a Lidl.
Cons: The room was dirty, run down. Breakfast was bread, and we got lucky w 2 glasses for the 4 of us. The hotel was not prepared for the huge number of people staying there so staffing, food amounts offered and type of food was slim.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Plenty of car parking
Cons: No staff on site to ask questions
4.5 Okay
Cons: There is no front desk staff except for a few hours in the morning or evening. The hotel doesn’t tell you this detail and they also don’t tell you that they don’t accept American credit cards at the automated check in window. It was a nightmare - a crummy auto check-n that would just spit out your payment card with no explanation.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location for the stadium. Rooms were comfortable and a good breakfast

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good, clean hotel with friendly staff, a nice bar and restaurant. Quiet at night with ample parking and secure grounds.
Cons: I’m not complaining but if you wanted to, there was nothing within a reasonable walking distance as the hotel is on an industrial estate as is common in France for corporate hotels.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location for drive to/from Eurotunnel. Food in restaurant was excellent and bar staff were friendly and helpful. Bar/lounge/restaurant area was great to chill out in and room had massive TV. Easy to find and massive car park with Tesler charging points if you drive one.
Cons: Only 1 milk pot in room for one cup of tea or coffee. Swimming pool white fence could do with a deep clean as you can see the green dirt when in the pool looking up, but I'm being really picky. Pool was lovely and refreshing.
