7.1 Good
Pros: The beautiful garden. Staff absolutely amazing especially for dinner. The dinner was devine.
Cons: The pictures of the rooms are not what you get. We booked a Japanese style room and did not get garden view, unlike it is shown on the pictures.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was stunning, luxurious yet traditional. The food was exquisite with multiple dishes and courses all imaginatively compiled and delicious. All the staff were incredible, helpful and humble, especially Kasumi who was delightful. The Onsen was beautiful and relaxing. The salon was an added touch, with delicious food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The gardens are gorgeous but most importantly, in my opinion, is the respect for the history surrounding this fine ryokan. It is evident throughout. Very attentive, passionate and caring staff who are truly delighted to have you as a guest. Very rare these days in the hotel accommodation business
Cons: Can’t think of anything. It was a truly memorable experience
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the staff and service was amazing. The dinner presentation was excellent. The atmosfere in the honkan was super friendly.
Cons: it was not easy to find my room and the exit. I wish signs along the hallway be more informative.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful, excellent and attentive service, the room was large, great hot springs and the dinner was magnificent
Cons: Would have preferred to have a choice between a European or Japanese breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I have visited Japan a number of times over the years and have stayed in many ryokans. Nishimuraya Honkan is the overall most enjoyable ryokan that I have stayed in to date. Excellent service, outstanding food, beautiful traditional architecture, lovely garden, and nice baths. Kinosaki Onsen is a bit out of the way, but Nishimuraya Honkan is worth the trip.
Cons: I liked everything about this ryokan.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful stylish traditional ryokan set near the center of town and various onsens. Great food and excellent English speaking staff. Can manage gluten free. Offer breakfast choice of Japanese or Western.
Cons: Our room didn’t have a very nice view. Most others seemed to have good ones of the garden or the bush.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Not one single thing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Literally everything about Nishimuraya Honkan, and to that extend, Kinosakionsen, is perfect. Honkan’s staff was so accommodating and kind and really got to know us during our stay so they can prepare to take care of us. Our room attendant was amazing, the baths were breath taking, and I feel as though how we were treated went beyond just professionalism, they went far and beyond for us without us even asking. The whole facility looks like it came out of a Japanese novel, so beautiful.

Pros: We had a great time at this place, it was so lovely and comfortable. Everything you need is offered and the two sisters who run the guesthouse are so amazing and warm hearted, they take care of anything you need. The rooms are really nice and the whole guesthouse is totally clean. Kinosaki is not a big city, so the location is really good, you can walk everywhere but the guesthouse finds itself in a quiet area and not located at the main road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The women that own the guesthouse are the kindest and loveliest hosts I’ve ever met. This place was outstanding I felt so comfortable and welcome.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The guesthouse is comfortably situated near the center of Kinosaki, so going to the different onsens was very easy to do! The sisters running the guesthouse are very nice, and were very welcoming, too. Being able to borrow yukata, geta, and furoshiki bags was fun and definitely added to our experience. There is only one shower, but because Kinosaki is so famous for its onsens, I don't see why anyone would use it, haha.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything is perfect. The host speaks English and is most helpful. The house is super clean with a nice garden and sitting room. I feel at home.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was central to shopping, food and onsens. The hosts were very friendly and the accommodation was like a Ryokan, with tatami flooring, futons and bedding. The twin room was very large and the bathrooms exceptionally clean. We loved the offer to wear onsen yukata. We would stay here again.

Pros: Great friendly service, great location, and wonderful owners. I am a vegetarian and when I let them know, they provided me with a great vegetarian breakfast! Overall a great experience.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: They made me a gluten-free breakfast that could have fed three people! It was gorgeous, including salmon, tamagoyaki (eggs), rice, miso soup, shrimp and squid sashimi, vegetables, and fruit. They bought gluten-free soy sauce for me even though I told them that I would bring my own. The ryokan is very, very clean and the host is very friendly, and the location is perfect for visiting onsen, with many restaurants and shops nearby. It was also nice to have a toilet attached to the room rather than having to share one. The room also had a sink and refrigerator.
Cons: Although it was not problem for me, my room was on the third floor, which might be a problem for those with mobility concerns.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Huge room Comfortable bed Great service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large room. Everything provided for visiting onsen. Helpful staff. It was during low season so can't speak for sound isolation.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The couple that runs the place are a delight, very friendly and accommodating for those traveling solo. Incredible value for money and a delicious breakfast was included. The property is also in prime location, a four minute walk from Kinosakionsen station. Another important perk is that the day pass for the other onsens around Kinosaki is already included in the price. The room was spacious in beautiful Japanese style. Definitely worth a visit!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff, a couple who run the property are very friendly. The location is close to the train station, only a few minutes on foot. The facilities are not fancy as some other expensive ryokans, but they are satisfactory. The breakfast meets my expectation. We did not have dinner at this ryokan. The price was reasonable. I would certainly recommend this ryokan to those who do not wish to spend a big money for ryokan.

The family is amazing (Theo,Nicola and Sayka) Thank you for sharing your house with us, your great food and your awesome life. Thanks for everything, Rotem and Yanir ❤ (tiny heart)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful home stay experience, Sayaka is great cook, probably the best Japanese food we had on our holiday, plus a delicious western breakfast. Furumaya House is nestled in the middle of rice fields, surrounded by stunning countryside and Nicolas and Sayaka are perfect hosts.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Sayaka and Nikola were super nice :) and it's great to get away from the bustle of Kyoto for a day:)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The meals were amazing. We are are a bit ignorant about food and they educated us. They made us feel very much at home in their place. They grow a lot of their food on the premises. The old house is precious. They also recommended a Tea House Ceremony that was a fabulous experience and an onsen that was wonderful. They also graciously picked us up from the train station because we didn't have a car and provided bikes so we could get around a bit.
Cons: There wasn't anything that we didn't like. The bikes they had need a bit of work but they were fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts, Nicolas and Sayaka are amazing. They were really welcoming but in the same time gave us all the space we needed. Sayaka's cooking of typical Japanese breakfast was incredible and really filling. For us it was the first time we tried a typical Japanese bath and we really did enjoy it. Overall it was a wonderful and looking forward too visit again.
Cons: N/A

Pros: Sayaka and Nicolas were so lovely and welcoming. The house was warm and comfortable. The food was the best i’ve eaten in Japan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast we had were amazing! Fresh, home-cooked food made with local ingredients. There were so many different dishes that it felt like we were royalty!
Cons: Sleeping on a futon isn't for everyone, especially if you have back problems and are used to a cushy, western bed. We knew this in advance but really wanted to stay at this property. So it was worth it for us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Owner family is the best !!
Cons: Nothing

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean and spacious room. Nice on site onsen. Very good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We booked the option „room selected at checkin“ and got a room in the third floor facing the street. We were very happy with the room and the bed was very comfy. The room was one of the largest we got on our japan trip. Beside the hotel yukata you can additionally select another yukata in a beautiful japanese design to your own liking. In the afternoon you are able to use the small inhouse bath as private bath. There are two styles of bath, roman and japanese style. Of course you receive the onsen pass to enter all public bathes in Kinosaki. The breakfast is serve in japanese style with many different things to taste. The hosts are very kind and helpful. Even if their english is very basic they are used to communicate with international guests (with google translation). Therefore the communication was no issue. We liked the accomodation, would stay again and would highly recommend.

Pros: This is my third time for Onsen in Japan but first time for Kinosakionsen. I can told you that here is the best place Onsen hotel ever! The accommodation quite old and they should to change the carpet at the hallway because it smell old and look dusty even though they clean it carefully. How ever, the room was great with Japanese style. Supper clean, convenient and cozy. The outdoor and the cave onsen were fantastic. It might not big as other onsen that I have been visit before but it good enough for me. Most thing I like for this onsen is there scheduled time for family onsen(I can use Onsen with my husband during 3.30-6.30PM which I just lock the door after we came in to the Onsen) other time will be separated to female and male onsen as usually. By the way, They will switch the sexual sign in front of Onsen again in the morning for guest who want to use both onsen. The location not too far from center of town and very convenient to visit other Onsen by walk. They will let us borrow Yukata for take a photo around the town which it really beautiful and impress moment for us.(The staff will assist me for wearing Yukata) The number one I appreciate this please is owner service. They are very cute family with world class service and incredible service mild. He also very good photographer hahaha. So, I truly recommend this place for every one who visit kinosakionsen. It valuable your money, impressive service and cozy place. Loved!!!!
Cons: I just don't like the carpet at the hallway on second and the third floor because it make this place look old. How ever, other thing was really impress me and make me forgot about the carpet in 3 sec!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: What an experience. Run by a fantastic family full of enthusiasm for their town, their hotel and for you having the best experience. The food was amazing - homemade and very traditional Japanese.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: it was really charming and the staff were SO kind. The meals were great too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is one of the most beautiful Japanese ryokan in town and is very clean and comfortable. The owner and the staff are very nice and friendly. I had an authentic Japanese breakfast and dinner, and the food was very delicious. This hotel has both an open-air hot spring and an indoor hot spring bath, which I enjoyed both. The onsen is close to the train station and town center, they all can be reached by walking.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful in every way. The meals served in our room were fabulous. There is an in house hot spring bath as well as all the public baths of Kinosakionsen. Staying at Morizuya was one of the highlights of our trip.

Pros: Great location. Warm welcome from owner and his staff, complete with tea ceremony. Room attendants taking care of meals and sleeping arrangements were genuinely enthusiastic, caring and hospitable despite language barrier. Good breakfast and dinner. And of course, the town itself Kinosakionsen is just wonderful.

Pros: They were very attentive and the owner was super nice. He took a lot of pictures for me

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with a serene atmosphere in the lovely town of Kinosaki Onsen. Wonderful onsen in the hotel and good breakfast. The free shuttle from and to the station and to the public onsens in the town was very convenient. Last and certainly not least, we had two great dinners and lunch at Sanpou, a restaurant in the town owned by the hotel. One of the best meals we had during our stay in Japan!
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The night spent at this establishment was quite simply the most relaxing and luxurious moment of a 20 day Japan trip. Everything from start to finish was perfect. Highlights included how spacious my room was, how nice the onsen facilities were (by far my favourite in town and I visited most of the public onsens before coming to this conclusion), how delicious and refined the dinner was, and how amazing the breakfast buffet was too.
Cons: The only thing I regretted was that my room had a lingering tobacco odor, the hotel had installed a device to purify and clean the air, but it was the kind of very light persistent small that it is hard to get rid of. I get that Japan has a different approach to smoking indoors that some other places.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was stunning in every way. The room was spacious, beautifully presented and well equipped. The facilities were equally stylish and comfortable. The public baths in the hotel were exceptional. Being just slightly removed from the town meant that it was beautifully quiet and peaceful. My only regret is that we did not go on the forest bath walk, we ran out of time and good weather.
Cons: The breakfast was a buffet, which had many excellent options, but we would have preferred a kaiseki option. The gift shop on the ground floor is a bit jarring.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is just pretty good. Staff very friendly. Everything we expect was there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Overall the experience at Shogetsutei was a perfect. Absolutely amazing in accommodation, food, onsen, staff, service, cleanliness, Japanese immersive experience and attention to details. The ryokan style room is very beautiful and comfortable. The small onsen in the terrace is perfect for some private time and to enjoy during the nights when the public onsen close. The dinner and breakfast were absolutely spectacular, dinner was served in our room by a lovely japanese lady who also prepared parts of it, like rice, grilled crab etc. The attention to details with the food was incredible. Breakfast is buffet but is almost as varied and tasty as the dinner. The public onsen inside Shogetsutei is in my opinion the best and most beautiful one in the village. Location wise it is not as centric as Nishimuraya Honkan but that allowed (when building) for a bigger hotel with more and bigger rooms as well as some rooms with a private bath in the terrace which is amazing. The previous night i stayed in Nishimuraya Honkan which is in my opinion slightly superior because of its beautiful old traditional historic building, but can honestly recommend going to both, since they offer a slightly digferent experience, specially if you want to try having a private bath in your room/terrace. A big thank you to all the staff and the hotel of Nishimuraya Shogetsutei and Honkan for a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Arigato gostaimashita :)
Cons: Nothing.
7.5 Good
Pros: Well organized onsen hotel with pickup and drop of from railway station. Modern room with all the comfort. Good dinner service. English food Menu and information availability
Cons: Hotel used by several tour busses. Standard service, no personal attention and no active mention of bus service to railway station. Far away from city center. Food was good but for the price would expect more and not better then other ryokan which cost less.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where to start... this is by far the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Absolutely immaculately clean, and the rooms are something very special. The staff are fantastic; extraordinarily welcoming, polite, and charming. The facilities are second to none. Kinosaki is full of Onsen, of course, but the one at Nishimuraya Shogetsutei is amongst the best, and the only one with a steam room as far as I'm aware. The lobby, bar area, and gardens are a sight to behold, in fact, the entire place is stunning. Unfortunately, the pool was not open, since I visited during off season, but that also looks great. The breakfast buffet is fresh, delicious, and varied. The dinner... on another level entirely. At 13,800 JPY, it is not cheap, but you really do get what you pay for. A beautifully presented 10 course meal is served to you in your room, in an unintrusive, quintessentially Japanese manner. The food is top quality; the Snow Crab, Sashimi, and Wagyu beef all utterly delicious, and again, the staff are astoundingly accommodating and thoughtful. Speaking of quality touches, if you thought Japanese toilets were great in general, then wait until you see the toilets in this place, with seats which automatically open as you enter, and at the push of a button close and flush themselves. I can imagine for those with disabilities this hotel would be a great choice. Everywhere is wheelchair accessible, and adapted seating is also provided in the public bath areas. The private baths are really worth the extra cost if you want an even more luxurious experience. 8,800 JPY for 70 minutes, with champagne ice bucket provided. Each private bath house can probably accommodate a group of up to 5 or 6, and also has a private sauna (the slightly cooler type in which you wear sauna clothes). There's a very good reason Nishimuraya Shogetsutei is considered the best ryokan in town by the locals. I will certainly be staying here on future visits to Kinosaki.
Cons: I can't think of a single thing that I didn't like about this hotel.

Pros: Lovely ryokan and really great host. Other reviewers have said the owners don’t speak English but the older lady who was there spoke English well-enough to be understood. She was really lovely and helped us work our way through all the nonsense in town as well as explaining how to put all the gear on. The room was spacious, clean, quite large and the futons one of the comfiest we’ve ever slept on. We sorted ourselves out with dinner and breakfast from the supermarket nearby and had a wonderfully relaxing overnight stay. Kinosaki is a beautiful little town and would be well worth spending more time around there - looked great for hiking!

Pros: The location was good. I was surprise that there is a shuttle bus waiting for us on our arrival to send us to the hotel. The ryokan is also walking distance to many places of interest as it is right in the centre of the area.
Cons: I would like to have a selection of yukata for us to choose. We were only given the yukata in our room and that we were to wear out for our outing. After our return there were no new set for us to change into for our sleep in the night. Its not hygienic in this way.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spending a day in Kinosaki Onsen was one of the highlights of our trip in Japon and staying in Yamamotoya was part of the experience. It is a traditional Japanese hotel (ryokan) well located in the center of the town.
Cons: The breakfast was disappointing. Even if the service was excellent, the taste was average and no item stood out. Especially, the omelet was big and bland.
6.3 Good
Pros: Dinner was really fantastic and memorable.
Cons: Expensive for what we got in terms of the room and comfort level. Onsen was pretty basic.

Pros: Exceptional staff politeness. Room view to the beautiful garden. Good onsen with a few people in it.
Cons: Pricey. And pricey food.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic ryokan - the staff and premises, including the ryokan’s own onsen, were all fantastic.
Cons: The only minus is that you must remember to reserve all meals, including breakfast, in advance. We had booked via booking.com and had not realised that, and hence needed to resort to other dining options in town, and did not get to experience the apparently excellent food at the ryokan. Other than that, a truly great experience!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The traditional feel and ambience. I felt like an ancient “princess”. They also provide you with a free onsen pass for your whole stay. The onsen in the hotel is also fabulous for a before-bed treat since it is open until 23 if I remember properly. Plus, the traditional breakfast is absolutely amazing. Super fresh and complete. They arranje everything for you including shuttle (van) services to the train station.
Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Pros: Utsuroi Tschiya Annex was at a convenient location - close to shops, onsens, the cable car up the mountain, and dining, it also boasts beautiful modernist architecture (adjacent its original, traditional ryokan), gorgeous artworks from the Yamada family, and three private baths. From the moment Yamada-san (the owner) picked me up from the train, I felt taken care of as solo traveller. He provided me with recommendations of where to go, where to eat, what to see, and how to onsen. Don't hesitate to book this spot when you are at Kinosaki Onsen!

Cons: Nothing

Pros: A modern take on a traditional Japanese Ryoken. In particularly liked the balcony with a small rock garden and a swinging egg chair overlooking the hill - was an amazing touch. The staff were first class, the cafe downstairs which did cracking coffee and breakfast, and the full kimono and pass for the 7 onsens in Kinosaki all added to the experience
Cons: Not much really - just be aware that you’ll be sleeping on the floor (the staff set up bedding and futons), as is the style of Ryokens.
