Very warm and friendly, well equipped, excellent dinner and breakfast
We most enjoyed the friendly and interested welcome provided by the reception staff. Breakfast was also delicious and service was excellent. We would definitely stay again for Cotswold visit. The room was relatively small, but for the price it was excellent value.
i have stayed at this hotel often, and have always been pleased with each room i have stayed in. the little things like choices of tea's, plenty of coffee and sweets and biscuits in each room makes it more homely and welcoming. my last visit i had a bathroom with a window, as it was facing a busy road i did not feel comfortable using the bathroom with the window not being dressed, even though, of course, it was the window bubble glass.
The location and the hotel was beautiful. We had such a relaxing time would def come again
breakfast was great. no satellite or cable tv.
Good location for where we wanted to visit TV didn't work in the lounge area of our room
good atmospere,good food,friendly staff
The bedrooms were really lovely and homely and very comfortable. I loved Fred the Great Dane in the bar. The menu and food were of a very high standard. N/A
quiet and relaxed
A pleasant ambiance from the staff in this comfortable hotel. Just the place for relaxation in the Cotswolds miniscule portion of my kippers for breakfast!
Excellent food & size of room The room was to hot and we could not turn the heating off
Distance travel, not to far from home, central to shops and restaurants. As there was no double glazing on windows it was very noisey from surroundings areas.
easy parking freindly staff nice bar had a continental feel to it, our room had been refurbished and was excellent breakfast was good but served on cold plates resulting in a not so hot breakfast also a bit noisy late at night, weekends only i assume, due to weatherspoons pub letting out and taxi office next door
The staff were very helpful and utterly charming. The restaurant offer Thai food which was very good.
Central for Stroud Room was cold and very noisy during the night from ventilation fans
The breakfast was good and the staff were obliging. The hotel was fine for a one night stay and the family room was fairly commodious. It wasn't comfortable enough for a longer stay. There seemed to be a lot of empty spaces downstairs with obvious potential for refurbishment.
After a four hour train journey straight after a full days work the position of the hotel was a welcome site!
Staff were very responsive - room lacked a few basics (telephone, hooks on bathroom door, too little towel rail space, nowhere to put toileteries in bathroom, no waste-bin in bedroom)However, thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
both of us just have a excellent time well done
Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely restaurant and bar. A very clean and comfortable room and excellent value for money.
the main hotel was lovely, the staff were helpful, the breakfast was very good the accomodation wasn't as nice as we were expecting, we were in a room in a cottage just outside the main car park.
beautiful country setting, lovely grounds.
Hotel staff were polite and curtius. Room was comfortable, better than our previous hotel in Portsmouth - The Isis All day you could hear the background music from downstairs. Although it stops at around 23;00 hrs
The character of the building and the open fires on a cold November evening. The breakfast speed of delivery was a little slow - I would also have liked to have breakfast at 7.00am but they didn;t start serving till 7.30
Excellent location, warm and friendly ambience without being too stuffy, romms very comfortable. Pillows could have been of better quality--bigger and softer Menu in main restaurant somewhat restricted for choice and quality ranged from excellent to a little disappointing
This hotel has been refurbished since our last stay, to a good standard, rooms very comfortable and pretty. Staff at reception consistently helpful. Food was of a good standard.....at the bar restaurant. We didn't have an evening meal at main restaurant so can't comment Breakfast very sparse if one didn't ask for full English. Toiletries were lovely Moulton Brown but there was no hair conditioner so easy to look a bit wild after hair wash!
Location - doggie walking facilities. Lovely suite and layout meant privacy with good access to the facilities. Choice of eating venue with great menu. Staff friendly and skilled
The friendleness and enthusiam of the staff, and the excellent facilities.
It was close to the Westonbirt arboretum We originally booked a superior double. There was a horrid damp patch on the chimney breast with paint and plaster peeling off. The room should never have been allowed to be used in that state. It smelt of damp. i did ask to have another room, we were given a suite in the new annex, which was good. However, there was a wedding reception on the saturday with loud music until midnight. Surely the hotel should pre-warn guests that such an event is taking place. We were loking forward to a quiet, relaxing weekend.
i would and am returning. comes highly recommended. the staff had a sense of humour and allowed us to enjoy ourselves.
Stunning location, really quirky place with interesting features. The food in the restaurant was delicious, really good home cooked meals.
Lovely room, clean, all facilities that you would need (tea/coffee, hair dryer etc). Like the fact the TV had an idoc built in and there was free wifi. N/A
the staff were delightful and the food very fresh-lovely fresh fruit at breakfast and delicious cooked food at breakfast time. Fish at dinner very well presented and tasty. Vegetables uninspiring and overcooked we were shown first to a horrible room-dark damp smelling, we complained and then had quite a nice room, tho the sound does travel from other rooms. don`t like the radio in the dining room
Great place for a weekend break.
The overall weekend was very relaxing, our needs were met with comfort and lovely food. Very organised and efficient. Lovely surroundings and interiors. The shower pressure was not adequate and needed a call to reception to find out how to correct this, a note in the shower would have been better. Also a lamp in our room (No8) would have been a nicer form of lighting as everything was concentrated over the bed area only.
Nice room in a nice hotel in a nice location, with lots of individual and unusual features - the mill wheel, the large rabbit statue, the ourside area by the water etc. The bar being the reception was awkward, because when we checked in there was a wedding party going on, so it felt like we were intruding. Also the breakfast area was a bit canteen like - inside anyway - and didn't have the individuality of the bedroom and other parts of the hotel.
Great price, great food
The Hotel provided exactly what we needed for a mini break away from our work and daily environment. The setting was wonderful, enjoying a meal and drink by the side of the pond, the saftt were brilliant and they made our holiday. Theonly change I would suggest is to extend the restaurant menu - ok for a 3 day break, but seemed a little limited.
We had a couple of very nice meals within the restaurant. I feel sure that we did not get a superior room which we paid for, we overheard that all superior rooms are upstairs within main hotel and our room was tired and in need of some work.
Friendly staff Room not up to normal standard
Good location near to town
Warm, Clean, Comfortable bed. Only disappointment was that this hotel didn't accept my Emerald Discount Card, and I had to pay the full £55 for the night. Snow fell overnight, and the slope to the car park wasn't salted/gritted.
Spacious, clean and comfortable room A room with a double bed should have two easy chairs (there's plenty of room for two). If you only drink tea and have one last thing at night you cannot have one first thing in the morning..not enough tea bags... or sugar is provided, and a tray to stand it all on would be a nice touch. Even a small plastic one like they have on airlines. Considering we booked the room around February it was disappointing to have a room with such a rotten outlook. It felt as if we had been 'shoehorned' into the hotel at the last minute. a view of the park across the road would have been preferable to the blank wall, made out of 'cages' of rocks, with it's attendant fag-ends and discarded soft-drink bottles which had been thrown up onto it, presumably by some members of staff taking breaks outside the back door!
cleanliness and friendly staff value for money in the location
Friendly check in staff. Restaurant available on site. Clean, comfortable room Room on first floor accessed via stairs and several fire doors. Not easy with several bags. There were however rooms on the ground floor, for people with mobility problems
Rats in the car park by the front door of the hotel make me think that there is a problem.
We have used this hotel on several occasions because when we visit family in the Stroud area it is convenient, the food is excellent value for money and the rooms are always clean and roomy. The staff are always very pleasant/helpful. On our second night we were awoken by the carpets being cleaned in the early hours of the morning. However. after complaining we were not charged for this nights accommodation.
Comfortable rooms and good service.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. My sister and I found it provided what we needed for an overnight stay visiting our bother. I booked via the internet and was unable to state that we wanted twin beds rather than a double bed. The staff were cooperative in offering to change the bed to 2 singles but when we saw how big the bed was we decided it wasn't necessary. Breakfast was excellent.
The location was halfway between the places we wanted to visit. It was easy to find and a very convenient place to stay. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful. Paint was flaking from the walls in places and it desperately needs renovation. We were brought our main meals before the starters, then had to wait while the starters were prepared. The meal was tasty but spoiled by the poor waitering.
The breakfast was both extensive and tasty and the bed was very comfortable. The ensuite shower was a little cramped and the address I had was listed as being in Tetbury, when it is definitely not.
The staff were excellent, especially the male member of staff taking orders for breakfast on Sunday morning. Very cheery and helpful. There were spiders and other insects in the room, and the "wet room" style bathroom was extremely grubby.
the location was very practical as close to wedding venue. Sunday roast very good as was 'specials board' room offered poor value for money in comparison to similar venues we have stayed at. Only travel size kettle, no disposal facility for sanitary ware, no toilet roll holder, shower and surrounding walls in poor state of repair. Would not return or recommend to others
very good atmosphere
The pub itself was lovely - extensive grounds, friendly and helpful staff, good beer. It was nice to be just next to our room. Excellent location for travelling around the south-west. The room was very pleasant and fairly comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. Our room faced directly onto a main road which was extremely noisy and disturbed us throughout the early hours of the morning. The double bed was just two singles pushed together.
Good choices of evening meals.
Not having a rigid start and finish time for breakfasts. The lighting in the bedroom was very poor - difficult to read. T.V.reception was poor and channels not tuned into a logical sequence.
location food and food/bar service poor. Staff complaining about each other and management
Dinner at restaurant good. Very friendly helpful staff. Great location in centre of lovely town. Parking was quite a distance for elderly parents but we could drop off cases in front of hotel. Secure luggage storage would be useful to save walking back long distance to long stay free car park (1/3 mile). Breakfast good but shame allowed to cool off before serving. Public areas towards back of hotel a little jaded, bedroom decor nice albeit needed detailed clean around edges.
Loved this hotel, it’s right in the centre of town and has a really great bar. The food was excellent, (try the crispy duck salad and the sticky toffee pudding) and my room was comfortable and really quiet with a big bathroom and a great shower. The staff were all very friendly and the owner was incredibly helpful lending me a tie which I’d forgotten. No parking at the hotel but that wasn’t a problem as I was shown where to park close by and didn’t have to pay.
A stylish hotel - gorgeous bedroom , delicious dinner and breakfast. Very poor shower.
We had a very enjoyable nights stay at the Ormond last week. Our bedroom was a good size, very light and airy & looked to have been recently decorated adjoining this was a large modern bathroom , all making our stay very comfortable. Downstairs there is a very cosy bar area and a beautiful courtyard garden , with many flowers and hanging baskets. The restaurant was another high point, incredible food (10/10!) and service was friendly and attentive. All in all The Ormond is a very stylish and comfortable hotel, staff all extremely professional and food first class....this hotel is extremely good value for money
This is a lovely boutique-style hotel. Would recommend the four poster room. Not much to do in the town, except sipping coffee and wandering around small designer shops, but conveniently located for trips out. Would definitely revisit.
Evening Meals were very good. Shortage of staff. Checking out meant that other guests were delayed with breakfast orders, as the waiter was also in charge of checking out desk. No Car Park.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The room was lovely and we felt at home. My wife and I found the bed uncomfortable in our suite, although we are used to a super king size at home.
Primarily the facilities, WiFi in the hotel rooms. Hotel staff was excellent, food great. I have no complaints about the hotel, although it is a bit pricey.
Friendly and helpful staff None
nice decore, excellent location, pleaseant environmentbreakfast good, newspapers to read, pleasant lounge I would have liked a mattress cover on the bed and not just a sheet. The mattress was clean but it would be nicer for future guests.
Staff , location , property olde worlde Water pressure in shower was very poor,
The pub is wonderful and the standard of food very high. The village of Frampton Mansell is a lovey setting. There was only one bad point: the bed. It was a queen size bed, I think, and rather uncomfortable for us both. We are not exceptionally tall (5'8'' and 5'9'') - but it seemed a rather short bed!!
The warm welcome and helpful attitude of all the staff N/A
The olde world charm of the pub and the attached dining room provides a super atmosphere for a drink and a meal. Selection of real ales complements a varied food menu. Log fires during our autumnal visit completed the cosy feeling The toilet facilities in the public house are wholly inadequate for the number of people that use this venue.
Beautiful location and nice food!
Wonderful traditional pub in stunning surroundings. Even the picnic benches outside had pots of flowers on them! Bedrooms slightly faded in places. No phone in room and no signal for mobile but hotel kind enough to let me make an essential call on their landline. Hotel had not received reservation for evening meal from Active Hotels.
Very friendly staff and good food.
Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Bar sold a number of real ales. Twin beds were not as comfortable as they could have been.
Service, welcome food all good points No bad points only that we couldn't stay longer
A small intimate village pub with good food and atmosphere which included accomodation. It answered our requirements for the night Bedrooms/ensuit facilities need a major modernisation.
Relaxed country atmosphere, nice location, staff tries hard, Our room, a standard, was tiny but others are lovely and will will go again choosing a higher rated room.
Quaint A little cold
close to my destination. Food was nice. Idiosyncratic atmosphere maintenance of hotel could be improved. - Loo seat was loose, TV remote was not for TV in room. No heating in bathroom, and window would not close Staff could be more responsive to requirements - restaurant booking for 7:00pm, food not delivered until 7:40
Excellent food. Capable, efficient, polite staff. Room was not great (dated bathroom; only an over basin light & no bath which was contrary to description at time of booking).
Excellent restaurant. Beautiful room Staff were pretty non-commital on arrival. Not made to feel particularly welcome.
Very friendly owners/staff, and good food. Hand-held shower only in the room I stayed in.
Breakfasts were excellent. The hotel was sited in a very quiet and piucturesque area. Restaurant food was overpriced in our opinion.
We had great difficulty in booking a table for dinner. Restaurant was full. We did achieve an early sitting and found our meal very disappointing.
Friendly atmosphere in delightful surroundings. Nice room. Very satisfying experience
The Bear is a lovely hotel in a great position on the National Trust area of Rodborough Common. The room was excellent and very comfortable in the old part of the building. The staff are very friendly and polite. We stayed here on our way to a holiday in the South West and it was an extremely good place to pick. We were in a room on the front of the hotel but slept very soundly. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it.
staff friendliness the force of the shower in the bathroom
A superb location with easy access to countryside walks .Quiet and restful with little passing traffic and excellent views. . No guarantee for residents to enjoy meal in main restaurant. Little urgency when we reported that our room on 3rd floor did not have any hot water.
The hotel had charm and character and the food was very good the room was too warm and I didn't want to leave the window open as it was not secure
General overall comfort and "rustic" atmosphere, excellent country position. The standard of training of some of the (obviously new) staff needs to improve
Stunning location, interesting historical building. very powerful shower! Good breakfast with lots of choice. I met 2 very helpful members of staff, the receptionist and general manager which helped to redeem the place in regards to their calibre of staff. Double room as small as a single and was tired and shabby, esp the bathroom. The girl receptionist was very helpful and nice as was the general manager on duty but other staff I met were quite unhelpful and struggled to understand me (I speak the Queens English....) if you asked a question they would speak in their own language between themselves and not make it clear whether or not you will be getting a response. Menu choices didnt make it as far as the plate, you get what you're given, thus makes me wonder why they ask you what you want to begin with. I experienced issues with the fluctuating wifi connection but the staff helped to rectify this. Do not bother with the fixed price bar menu unless you're happy with very small portions.
Good food, excellent wine choice. Friendly helpful staff. Room not ready at designated time. Bed far too soft
Convenience of location for our requirement, and the friendly attendance of all staff.
Food, room and staff, all excellent Outside of the hotel looked a little dated, but looks were very deceptive. I have not really got anything bad to say about this hotel and would certainly stay here again.
Excellent food. Innovative menu using local produce and very reasonably priced including the wine. Easy to find and parking available. Clean and friendly. King size bed very comfortable with good quality bedding. Nowhere to sit after dinner/or before you were either in your room or dining room. Breakfast did not live up to the boast of the hotel. Bathroom very small and insufficient toiletries.
Friendly staff, good meals
Excellent facilities and very family friendly staff. Great value.
Good location, parking, large bed (but two put together), good local food Small bathroom, didn't realise it was so family orientated - lots of young children, environment felt quite sparse
The warmth and comfort were made to feel important for us. We felt at ease and this made a hugeimpact on our stay. No complaints
The food in the evening was a very wide menu and well cooked and presented. Local produce was a good idea. There were no lounge facilities. It was more like a travellodge with good dining
Sound proofing - babies very noisy in next room
Nice bed No residents bar
