clean area, excellent stay, good breakfast, good restaurant recommendations!
Very good breakfast and travel assitance
Hugo and Regina, the owners, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The place has a lovely homely feeling. The breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice. The food was freshly prepared for us daily and when Regina discovered we particularly enjoyed one type of pastry she brought them especially for us as a surprise. The communal areas are comfortable and well maintained. The WiFi connections were good and on the only rainy day there were board games and books available to entertain us all. The kitchen is well equipped and we were able to prepare our midday meals easily. There are some very good local restaurants with a range of prices and types of food within walking distance and much more choice if you venture further afield. The whole place was exceptionally clean and the beds were very comfortable. When we asked for an extra duvet for the children this was immediately provided. The water was always hot. Hugo recommended an excellent surf school for the children (Wanted Surf School). They were great and collected and dropped off the children from the Pura Vida Windmill. The location is close to the beautiful forests of the Sintra national park, Cabo da Roca and also a number of stunning beaches. However, it is in the middle of a very tiny village and you do need to have a car (or be prepared to use the local buses which have stops reasonably nearby) in order to access the beaches, forests and monuments. This is not five star, all inclusive, luxury with vibrant nightlife or loads of children's facilities and if you are looking for that then this is probably not the place for you. It was perfect for us as we have older children who enjoyed the swimming pool and the beaches and we appreciated the beautiful, peaceful and natural surroundings, the simplicity of the location and the amazing view of Guincho beach from the patio area as well as the warmth of the welcome from the owners who went out of their way to make us feel at home.
There was nothing that we did not like, but two tips would be: a) make sure you take your booking form or a note of the telephone number from the booking with you as the owners are not on site and you need to phone them when you arrive so that they can give you instructions about where to find your room key and how to let yourself into your room and the communal areas. b) be prepared for the fact that the toilet drainage system is not like the UK and you cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet, you have to put all used toilet paper in the bin at the side.
Best of several worlds - B&B plus use of kitchen and sitting room communal areas where you could cook a meal. Enjoyable connections with other guests because of the communal aspect. Regina the housekeeper is fantastic. Very clean and comfortable. Easy access to local restaurants.
Pillows were a bit past it.
Great room, great location, great breakfast, amazing view from the terrace!
This is a property only for someone with a car and when we arrived right after sunset, there was noone there. Other guests have told us that there is a small sign on the gate who to call and we had to spend some money on making a phonecall and getting instructions on how to get in over the phone.
