A completely comfortable and relaxing break with a lovely room overlooking the river For hotel of this type, wi-fi free should be in every room and breakfast too expensive
the service and cleanliness could have had a better breakfast
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel - the room was large and comfortable and was very good value with helpful staff and a smashing swimming pool with all the facilities. No.
Excellent stay. We were staying only one night, but we really enjoyed it. Fantastic old style hotel in the countyside. Will call back again in the future!!
Beautiful hotel, good location on outskirts of cognac, good size rooms,we were given upgrade because hotel was nearly empty, nice pool but couldnt get into it as gate locked! Lovelly surroundings. booked this hotel for its restaurant, told it was full but they would book us another gourmet restaurant. On arrival nothing was booked because it was sunday and theirs was in fact closed, think they told us this so we didnt cancel booking.
convenient for town, private parking breakfast although continental as expected, was rather mean.
Friendly staff and very clean facilities None
Good location - walking distance from town centre and other attractions, such as Cognac houses. Air-conditioning in rooms. Parking was readily available. Rooms clean and tidy. Staff helpful and friendly. Rooms were very small indeed, but acceptable for a one-night stay in our case.
Good location. Superb staff and management, very helpful and service minded. No complaints what so ever. Nice quiet hotel, not much room for party and noise.
The staff was helpful and the breakfast buffet was good. The room smelled of mildew and was very basic. There was mold in the shower. It felt like a very cheap motel room in the US.
THe convenience of the location to the city centre The bed was very hard!
great location, parking close by, free after 5.30pm
Te excellent people running the business, very friendly and helpful Leaving!
great service, nice, clean room, super owner
Welcoming, comfortable, very convenient for city centre.Relaxed atmosphere.
Nice room, superb staff, reasonable walking distance to heart of old town and its attractions. Not the easiest to find even though there are the usual small hotel signs. Must pay for public parking near the hotel. Hotel`s paid parking worth the cost, but not much of it.
Room was small, but comfortable. Excellent attentive and professional staff. The front desk arranged our cognac tasting and tour at Hennessy and Otard, both of which are walking distance. They also recommended excellent nearby restaurants. On-site breakfast was very good, setting is picturesque.
Fantastic Food, relaxed atmosphere. No sofa in room to sit on and relax or chairs only stools.
The personal aspect of the service. The wonderful design and the large range of features for such a small hotel. Its setting ina very pretty village. Shortage of good parking.
Great service and friendliness , brilliant location, just a joy I could not fault it
Very quiet village, we enjoyed eating dinner by pool, Nicely designed hotel. No lift
very nice place, nice people, great food !
I liked everything - the service, the staff, and the evening meal was absolutely fabulous. I was made to feel very comfortable.
Incredibly friendly staff and a beautifully designed hotel; someting really special
We stayed at the hotel as a stop over on the way up from Biarritz to Cherbourg. It's a shame we only got to stay one night, the hotel was gorgeously decorated and great facilities. We had a meal there in the evening and breakfast, both of which were delicious. If you like chic, hip, boutique hotels then I'd definately recommend Francs! We'll go back one day.
Nice room, friendly staff Meal on second night very disapointing for the price
Location very good church bells
Basil and Sybil are alive and well and running a hotel in Cognac......!!!!! Fawlty Towers had nothing on this place. In a 3 week trip around France this was, unfortunately, the only hotel that did not come up to scratch. Beautiful from the outside, the inside is in desperate need of renovation and modernisation. At least the bathrooms could do with a good clean. On arrival we were told that we had been "upgraded" free of charge to a superior room from our booked double. I would love to have seen the room we should have got, if this was "superior"! A bed that was no bigger than a slightly oversized single, broken toilet seat, mould in the bathroom, no hot water past 9pm and a room so small you banged your knees on everything. Disappointing.
The hotel had a very friendly atmosphere. The staff were helpful and always available to answer our questions - particularly on the subject of Cognac. There was a large amount of furniture in our room. A very large table at the window and a large armchair which limited space.
Received a very warm welcome and good service. Room was pleasant and restaurant was very good. The Domaine itself is charming with a pool and grounds. It is not far from the centre of Cognac (25 min walk). The only slight criticism is that the restaurant and bar were closed on Sunday. Otherwise, a very good visit and shall certainly, stay there again. The restaurant and bar closed on Sunday.
The opportunity to stay in such a beautiful building
Everything, lovely lounge bar and cognacs. lovely spot.
Staying there the second time, will stay again. Lovely garden and swimming pool, very clean rooms, tea and coffe facilities in the room, free wifi and parking. Poor breakfast
We stayed 3 nights and were delighted with everything abut the hotel. We will definitely use it again. Monsieur and Madame were charming and the accommodation superb. We did not eat dinner because we were visiting family nearby but next time we shall definitely book in. Nothing.
Having travelled internationally on business and holdays for many years, I have stayed in all sorts of hotels and this one has to be my favourite. It is not too large to be impersonal, and not too small to lose the grand style of a country house. The staff and owners had just the right balance of professional courtesy and warmth, the room was excellent - no problems with size and we weren't swinging any cats around. The food was superb, the house and the setting of the place absolutely delightful. All prices were very resonable considering the high quality. Yes, I was disappointed that in the information about the hotel no mention is made that the Remy Martin family built and owned this house in 1855 and only sold it 20 years ago.
Nice area , very quiet
the room was very large and the views spectular the food seemed to be substandard for the hotel atmosphere
Nice courtyard with easy access chalet style rooms. Very French. No one around on our arrival at 6.30 Sun evening. Had to ring bell to wake up receptionist with pleasant demeanour who showed us the room then disappeared. Restaurant closed Sunday evening.
Very easy going place, very welcoming and friendly Parking. We know there was building work going on but it looks to us as if they need a proper car park.
the swimmingpool, the room, bathroom and the entrance to it is very nice. You can park your car near to the room. Most rooms are on the ground floor. There were hairs on the blanket, it could be cleaner.
Very nice welcome. Helpful and friendly staff. Secure space for bicycle arranged. Great breakfast. Clean rooms and swimming pool.
Excellent value, very large rooms (we were given a family size room despite booking just a double room) and good food at very reasonable prices.
We had a chalet style room which was themed to a sea-side theme. It was well-decorated, clean and quiet and had a walk-in shower. We arrived a day early and tried to book an extra night but no rooms were available, but the receptionist was very helpful tried to find us a room in another hotel.Private parking, Overall a pleasant stay. Evening meal good. But restaurant not open at week-ends.
The rooms were spacious and very well presented. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent No
Room was large and comfortable.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Friendly staff, room was clean, close to the pedestrian area, some good restaurants close by.
Staff was very helpful. We came in late and the woman on duty at the desk was great. She helped us take our luggage to our room.It was after midnight and it was nice to have a warm welcome.
Well situated near the very centre of Cognac. Very limited parking space and the hotel is generally in desperate need of redecoration. It has a slightly grubby feel about it.
Surprisingly friendly welcome and check-in. Not common nowadays at 3* hotels, and I stay in hotels across Europe a couple of days per week in my work so I have seen them all... Not possible to have late checkout. I asked to check out by 13.00, and was told "no" without discussion.
Close to bars & restaurants. clean rooms & secure parking but corridors were quite dark I think they should fit sensors instead of mannual switches
Beside an excellent location, it is the atmosphere of the lobby, sort of 'make yourself at home' that is so charming. The originality of decoration is also remarkable. The very owners were welcoming and provided exceptional service. The windows of the rooms should provide better isolation from the noise coming from the terrace restaurant. Breakfast seems rather modest.
Location was exellent right in the heart town. Colours of the walls (lime green) and the carpets (maroon) was awful. Room was also maroon with red curtains, made room very dark. Not sure what they were thinking when they decorated this room.
Perfect location, private parking, bold colors and design, high degree of value for money.
friendly bar and restaurant staff young lady on reception when we arrived rude and unhelpfull
The room was beautifully decorated with amazing hand carved locally sourced furniture. A good size with lovely bathroom. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Facilities were great too with nice swimming pool and reasonable gym. There was a sauna too although we didn't use it as the weather was so good! Some days it rained in Cognac, but blue skys over the hotel. We used the tennis court a lot. Rackets and balls provided, but for the best experience, best to take your own. We used the mountain bikes again provided free of charge, it is a very hilly in the area, but we managed fine and it was only cool enough to cycle one day when it rained. The views from the hotel are amazing, with the hotel being surrounded by fields of grape vines. The breakfast was slightly over priced for a long stay, but if you consider almost everything on offer is made on site, it is a luxury. Ps also worth noting that I hadn't finished commenting on how good our stay was when I ran out of space! This hotel is one of the nicest I've stayed in overall. The hostess is very friendly and helpful and makes wonderful food. Can't recommend this place enough.
The restoration of this original carriage house is excellent, and the suite concept accommodates travel with family or friends. Fortunately, the proprietor provides an gourmet cuisine service representative of the local foods, since there are few options for dining otherwise in the area. The stone construction of the buildings is authentic and quaint, but hold a lot of moisture in the fall months, so the environment was uncomfortably damp. The location is very rural, though not far from Jarnac or Cognac - these are interesting towns, but most of the restaurants and shops were closed during the times when international travelers would visit.
Very warm and friendly hosts, outstanding location and faclities. Only minus point was the length of time to get any hot water through - which was pointed out on arrival due to the layout of the buildings. It also seemed like a huge waste of water.
Charmingly French Nothing
I was really impressed with the remake of this old coaching Inn into a charming, but modern hotel. We were made very welcome by Christine who produced a wonderful home cooked dinner and breakfast. She was very informative and organised a tour of a local cognac distillery, which we really appreciated. We loved our brief stay. It is quite isolated and although this didn't affect our stay it could present an issue with some people and therefore perhaps this should be mentioned in advertising, particularly that dining could be difficult.
The personal attention by proprietors Christine and Jean-Luc was excellent
The furnishing, decor and quiet location of the hotel are wonderful The lady who owns and runs the hotel was overbearing and managed to maintain a running commentary through the whole of our dinner there, completely ruining any chance for any family conversation.
Really lovely place, ideal for a peaceful time!
Christine Montembault was a wonderful host and we will definatley be back to stay!
Stunning location. Excellent hospitality and great food
