Pros: The whole place was clean and comfortable. We just needed somewhere to stay overnight ahead of our early flight and this place was great.
Cons: We had a very early flight and had to wait at a bus stop at 4.23am to get the bus to the airport. Not a massive deal as the bus was on time and it was a short journey but we'd assumed it was closer. At that time of the morning we were in no state to walk!

Pros: The bed was comfortable.
Cons: This is an airport hotel with no airport shuttle; we had tape holding up the shower head;and the chiller in lobby not working. The staff were really nice.

Pros: The location was ideal for where I was working the following day (across the street). Food was excellent. Staff were great, friendly and willing to help. Room was comfy and clean. There was very little noise, but they had put me in a quiet section of the hotel. Overall, if I find myself in Luton again, I will definitely stay here.
Cons: There was nothing not to like. I suppose the car parking seems a bit limited, but I could get in. The evening menu might not suit you if you don't like Italian food, but really there is nothing at all to complain about.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic staff, from the check in , to the bar, to advice on the evening meal . They were friendly and very helpful
7.1 Good
Pros: The hotel is lovely
Cons: Unfortunately the walls were thin We awaken at 7 am people shouting and a child crying The air kept making awful noise and couldn’t open the windows for air
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel has been renovated to a high standard. The bedroom was beautifully appointed with excellent quality furniture and a really lovely en-suite. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. There was a good choice of cooked meals at breakfast (avocado with poached eggs on sourdough toast was excellent!) although a pretty poor selection of fresh fruit and no yogurt to add to cereal on the breakfast bar.
Cons: Throughout the night there was an intermittent loud buzzing noise which lasted for 3-4 seconds each time. I am a light sleeper and I found it disturbing to the point that I would be drifting off again only to be startled by the noise. We worked out it was coming from the AC unit. Our friends were staying in the room next door and they had the same noise - they turned the AC off and it didn’t stop! I told the receptionist about this and she replied ‘Oh yes it’s the AC - all the AC units do that!’ I said that I had never had such a problem with any AC unit before but she insisted the engineer had looked at it and it cannot be fixed as the noise is ‘normal’! Seriously, there was nothing normal about it! This buzzing noise really spoiled two nights’ sleep in what was otherwise a nicely appointed hotel with professional and friendly staff. It really needs sorting ASAP!

Pros: Lovely grounds and setting Pool area was wonderful Very accommodating to children with specific pool times
Cons: A number of facilities not working eg steam room out of service, 3 gym machines not working
6.0 Good
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and room size was generous. We felt like there was sufficient space for two adults and one toddler, even when he slept in bed with us. The indoor pool was great for kids.
Cons: Although they are considered kid friendly, the kids meals were never prioritised! Some of us were waiting over 45 minutes for kids meals to arrive, only to find that it was the wrong item ordered. Breakfast was okay, but pastries weren’t great.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: - Pet friendly - Beautiful building with beautiful rooms and beautiful gardens

Offley Place Hotel - Hitchin - Outdoors view

8.8 Excellent (480 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Hitchin, Offley Place Hotel is connected to the airport, within a 15-minute drive of University of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire County Showground. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Felt like staying in a palace. Very beautiful.
Cons: Nothing
4.6 Okay
Pros: In all honesty the only redeeming feature of Offley Place was its grounds/setting!
Cons: Upon our arrival there was no sign to show where reception was. We drove into the car park where we were greeted with waste bins, rubbish, a run down building with with smashed windows and a fair distance to walk, with our luggage, to get to the hotel entrance. We didn't receive a particularly warm reception. We'd arrived at check in time but the rooms were not ready. We were asked to wait in the lounge until they were ready but we were not asked if we'd like a drink. We had to request one. Our room (No 8) had dilapidated windows, which were hard to open and covered in peeling paint. There was drilling and building work going on in one of the rooms below us. The carpets were sticky and badly stained. The room had a bad smell. There were cracks in the ceiling and the walls were scuffed and dirty and required redecorating. There was dust on the chandelier. The lock on the room to our door was broken/difficult to use. The sink was cracked and there was a bad smell of sewage in the bathroom. The cold tap in the sink produced hot water only and therefore it was hard to wash as there was only scalding hot water coming from both taps. The shower taps were quite obviously broken and coming away from the wall, which made them extremely difficult to use. The toilet was broken and didn't flush properly. The king size mattress was actually two single beds pushed together and both the mattresses were uncomfortably soft. The breakfast was appalling! We were served poor quality sausages and canned mushrooms as part of our English breakfast! The pastries had nothing covering them, so had wasps and flies on them. The coffee was so bitter and foul tasting that we complained and were then offered a Nescafe instead!! Surely it isn't hard to serve a decent freshly ground coffee? Underwhelming and overpriced.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hotel in a brilliant location
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location. Lovely old stately home, converted sensitively into nice independent hotel with grounds. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Great room on the top floor with views out over the grounds to the village church.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love this property, it is set in beautiful grounds and the staff are second to none, nothing was to much trouble. The food was absolutely superb, delicious and presented to perfection. Our room was spacious and very clean, the bed comfortable and huge!! Already booked another night here! Would definitely recommend x
Cons: Nothing not to like!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and informative Breakfast was excellent Afternoon tea excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: As a business man constantly using hotels across Europe I can honestly say that this is one of the best hotels that I have ever stayed in. Excellent restaurant. Excellent staff. Beautiful location. Extremely clean. Extremely comfortable. Stunning rooms. Fantastic location for the airport.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location is great for Luton Airport. Set in a nice location with a park. Good parking right in front of the house. Nice selection at breakfast. Bathroom newly renovated. Staff helped us with our luggage.
Cons: It's a little noisy at night. You can hear the floors creak, doors closing. But it's ok. It's a nice old house after all. The carpet in the room seemed a little old.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The elegance of the building and surroundings.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place staff were brilliant

7.5 Good
Pros: Great location

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect Room was clean
Cons: Food in restaurant
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close walk to the airport. Breakfast in the morning was good.
Cons: We did not know that you had to put keycard into the wall to power up the room. We were tired and laughed it off though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was better than I expected! Very clean and friendly staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nicely decorated, very convenient
Cons: Dinner poetic was very small
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location good - walking distance from the airport. Dinner selection was good and value for money.
Cons: We were put in a disabled room which was great for size but... there was a very bright green light over the door which illuminated the whole room and couldn't be dimmed. Also the air conditioning wouldn't work in the evening apart from cold air. We had to have it turned off and the room was still cold all night. Neither of these things were great for sleeping. We did speak to reception and they offered to move us but by then we were unpacked and the children were asleep. We were told because we had asked for a cot this was the only room that they could put one in. This seemed quite strange as we have stayed in many hotels with cots and never had this happen before One thing at breakfast that was lacking was the choice of ham/cheese ie a continental option.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the location was great as it was connected by a covered walkway to Terminal 4 making the early morning start for my flight much easier. Hotel room comfortable, breakfast buffet was nice too.
Cons: Nothing to add
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was very decently sized, the breakfast was good, everything was very clean and for the price the stay was excellent.
Cons: Payment process was a little complicated... it seems that they don’t accept all international cards as mine was declined and my partner had to use his.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 10 mins walk to airport. Staff extremely helpful. Very quiet. Could not fault it. Definitely stay again if flying from Luton early in the morning.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Terrible nights sleep, worst bed I have ever slept in, it was a twin bed pushed together ( zip and link) but the link part was so uncomfortable. No parking on site
5.4 Okay
Pros: Very nice room and bathroom
Cons: My duvet cover was dirty and had holes in it. When we went for breakfast at 9am it was difficult to get food. There was no baconand the last sausages went. Did eventually get some. Only a dribble of apple juice

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was lovely with everything I needed for an early start the next day. There is a restaurant and a bar and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable Recommended if you have an early flight.
Cons: It is a little bit of a distance from the railway station
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value for money. The reception staff are unfailingly polite and helpful. Everywhere is very clean.
Cons: There was a kettle in the room (222), but no tea/coffee etc. Why? Car parking is a problem-never enough space. The ray operated bedroom taps are an irritant- I much prefer conventional taps.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is unique to its finest! The bed comes out of the wall, meaning before you put it down you have a sofa to sit on. The staff are on top par, I could not fault this hotel.
Cons: Parking is a little tight but that’s just down to the layout of the car park.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent interior hotel and room design
Cons: A bit further from the airport than I originally thought
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great for one night stay after a long day of travel - very comfortable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff
Cons: Pull down bed
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location for airport. The place was immaculately clean. Reception staff brilliant and even took us to our room. Wasn't expecting that for the price we paid. We had one of the super-small budget rooms with a pull down bed. Small but it was just fine for a stopover before an early flight. The shower was great and good toiletries included too. Other than the mattress being very hard this was perfect for our requirements.
Cons: The mattress was very hard and I struggled to get to sleep because of it. Parking spaces that were available were a bit tight.
7.5 Good
Pros: I spent there 2 nights and I have to say it went beyond my expectation. The staff was overall very friendly and helpful and breakfest was a treat I have enjoyed very much.
Cons: The room I got was smaller than bathroom in our house, so when I pulled the bed out of the wall I could not even sit at the table. The connection to the internet was out for most of my stay and the bathroom had a bad smell from the drain possibly. I booked also for the use of gym, which I have found out is even smaller than the room and contains 2 machines, that were occupied whenever I stepped in. The location of the hotel is not as great as it is 15 minute walk to the town center and you still need a cab to get to the airport.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff member was lovely and super helpful. Rooms are very small with fold down beds. Price compensates and we were looking for an inexpensive location for a few short hours rest before an early morning start.
Cons: Couldn't complain about cleanliness, the room and reception were very clean although there was a slight damp, mouldy smell in our shower room - it was slight though, my partner didn't notice it! There is absolute minimal space in the room to move and store luggage when the bed is down. We put the chair in the shower to give us more usable floor space in the room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was what we wanted
Cons: Just a bit warm in the room

Pros: We really liked the interaction with Jim and the Landlady. They had time to chat to us whilst we were enjoying a drink. Food was very nice.
Cons: Staircase was pretty hairy as very steep and twisty. Conducive of a property of this age I guess but I wouldn't like to have to take a big suitcase up the stairs.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely pub in a beautiful village. Really accommodating staff and a lovely breakfast
Cons: WiFi was bad so couldn’t really use it
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing !!! We stayed here for a local wedding. The staff accommodated additional requests. We felt welcomed and relaxed. We slept extremely well. I would definitely come back. Well done for running such a lovely addition to your pub.

Pros: Lovely quadruple room .. added bonus extra beds were in a separate room off master room. Lovely spot with helpful friendly staff. Great base to visit Cambridge uni as just half an hour drive to park and ride.
Cons: Was very hot as one of hottest days of summer so could have done with a fan. Tv And wifi wouldnt work but not a huge problem and I’m sure the friendly staff would have sorted it if we’d asked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was extremely convenient for a weeding we were attending at Burloes Hall. Excellent room, service and breakfast! Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean rooms, good breakfast and great value overall.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food it was excellent.
Cons: The people in the next room being very loud until 2am when I had to go to reception to complain, then the night porter had to go and tell them to be quite.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location was near to venue we were visiting
Cons: In the morning the electronics in the room seemed to go berserk, we kept hearing a buzzer going of then the door lock made strange noises. The fire alarm sounded when we got half dressed it stopped. When checking out, reception could not answer why the door lock and buzzer were making a noise, though knew about the Fire Alarm but had obviously done nothing to advise customers. Think they need to review H&S procedures. In addition the room was extremely hot, window would only open an inch, and an inadequate fan provided in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely attic room with a view over the Main Street. Modern decor and perfectly clean - loved the bathroom! Great value for money.
Cons: Being Saturday night it was quite noisy as the bars nearby were open late, the room would benefit from double glazing but I accept due to the age of the property it might not be possible. This wouldn’t stop us staying again - next time we’ll request a room at the rear.
4.6 Okay
Pros: When I arrived I was told to make my way to the room, it was very difficult to find with the signage and I was offered no help even though I had a few bags. I had to ask a cleaner who did take me to my room. Our room had chips from the previous occupier on the floor. I had a call the next day at 12.05 advising that I needed to check out, we were just about to leave the room, I’ve never been contacted before 5 mins after checkout to vacate the room. I felt the the price of the room does not reflect the service or quality. On a good point the breakfast was lovely.
Cons: See above
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great cooked breakfast. Comfortable large room. Homely.
Cons: Nothing.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff very pleasant Food good value for money
Cons: Only one towel in bathroom for two people Only one packet of biscuits No yoghurt for continental breakfast Had to send food back as needed to be heated up
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good and comprehensive. Staff were generally helpful.
Cons: Noise from wedding reception being held on the first night of our stay. No lift to access first floor with luggage

Pros: The rooms are all a bit different and quirky. Staff are lovely. Drinks good
Cons: Need More bar staff

Pros: Very helpful staff and hotel was remarkably quite despite close proximity to airport. Room was clean and nice....net curtains a definite let down!
Cons: The car parking was a hassle and I object to paying extorionate rate...thankfully I am a blue badge holder. Could not understand reception staff...accents made this impossible...bar staff likewise.

Pros: The breakfast was a 10/10
Cons: night staff on reception left us waiting for entry into the hotel, until he had finished a phone call. Barman ignored us when we tried to order food and drinks and served a customer who had obviously been in the bar all night giving tips to the staff! Night staff were very poor to say the least!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Well kept. Staff very friendly
7.5 Good
Pros: All comfortable. We had little choice about location as we were late booking our stay in order to attend an air show. As a result we were happy with the George Hotel.
Cons: Difficult to say as we only stayed for a single night.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience was great. The room was beautiful, clean, and had everything we needed. Breakfast was yummy, from the freshly made croissants to the cooked breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful, polite and professional. I met Dwayne, Belinda and David, who all made our experience one to remember, especially Belinda who is an excellent face of the hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was very nice. Modern and clean, everything we wanted for the stay.
Cons: There was one very big negative though. The room was very noisy. It sounded like an industrial extractor fan which came on in the evening and woke us up early in the morning.
7.9 Good
Pros: Rooms clean and nicely decorated. Beds comfy and tea and coffee readily available. Would stay again
Cons: No lift and lots of stairs. One room had the generator outside the window so very noisy
5.8 Okay
Pros: Chosen for the location. Bed comfortable. Cooked breakfast good
Cons: Room was noisy. Kitchen extractor very loud, went off ca 11 pm, but another machine was churning away for a couple more hours. Extractor came back ca 6am.Pillows very thin. Breakfast order not taken properly, we didn't get what we ordered. Fresh fruit on breakfast bar was bruised pears, hard apples and oranges. no prepared fresh fruit,or even grapefruit /dates in juice.
7.5 Good
Cons: Room 3 was very noisy due to the kitchen extraction. Extraction was on until 9.30pm and started again at 06.30am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious bedroom
5.4 Okay
Pros: Beautiful location, a nice traditional building, functional / cosy room and a great breakfast.
Cons: Dirty carpets in the stairs and corridors leading to the room - not the nicest of welcomes. At exactly 7:30 am, you are woken up by what appears to be the sound of a Boeing 747 warming its engines on the runway. A little investigation revealed the noise to be from the kitchen extract fan. Having been partying the night before we were looking forward to a lay-in, but no chance.... We jumped out of bed in a foul mood, found that our friends in the other rooms had the same issue, and confronted staff at breakfast. Answer: "Yes, it's a problem, especially rooms 2, 3 and 5..." (they listed a few rooms - unfortunately I cannot remember all of them). Their excuse is that it is a listed building and the issue is difficult to cure. Nonsense: you can cure any structure and air borne noise with adequate antivibration pads and silencers. You just have to want to. I wanted to confront the manager in person - he apparently usually arrives at 11am. We said we'd wait 'til 11 and the staff informed him over the 'phone. So he changed his plan to arrive at 12. We didn't drop it and left a message asking the manager to call us. In fairness, he did, and offered to pay for the night cap drinks we enjoyed the night before. That was a nice thing to do, but please fix that fan!
7.9 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Staff a bit flat

8.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice room with upmarket fittings.
Cons: Paper thin walls between rooms. You could hear everything going on. Very poor breakfast that doesn't do justice to the Hilton brand. Surprisingly the breakfast was no better in quality over a premier Inn. Premier Inn comes out on top in terms of quietness. Their doors don't slam.
6.3 Good
Pros: The pillows were very comfortable and breakfast was good with plenty of choice
Cons: Check in was very slow but this was possibly due to technical issues at the time we were checking in. The bathroom ceiling was in need of repair/paint it was mouldy. The shower door was grubby and so stiff that it was difficult to close. The food in the restaurant was average. Not much to do nearby and if you don't have a car it's not ideal.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Good to have lift to upper floors. Parking for disabled.
Cons: Poor signage. Very long corridors. Heavy doors.
4.0 Okay
Pros: the room and hotel was ok
Cons: the staff were more concerned with chatting with each other than the customers. I ordered food in the restaurant, it was dumped on my table and the staff member disappeared i was left without cutlery of asked if I needed any condiments I had to find my own cutlery and condiments after waiting for a staff member to return i was never asked if i would like a drink with my meal of if i would like a sweet, after a very stressful day at work this only added to the stress
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were great hotel was very clean and new.
Cons: Main Tv channels didn’t work on tv in room. Couldn’t watch MOTD
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were excellent. the room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
Cons: The air condition was rather noisy and I could not turn it off. The plug in the wash hand basin did not work. I did not notice in advance that one had to pay £5 a night for parking, This rather annoyed me, I have never had to pay for parking in a hotel before and it could add quite a lot to a bill!
5.0 Okay
Cons: Leak in the room from the ceiling.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Small bathroom, but ok
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Great location for an early flight from Luton Airport. This was our 2nd stay and would use they again.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous location. Ideal for flying out of the airport when you want some character and not a soulless airport hotel. Awesome staff, super attentive even when the pub was super busy.
Cons: It’s a beautiful old property. One thing I would say is that the carpets really do a lot to mask the unevenness of the floors. The corridor outside room seven is a bit of a death trap if you don’t know the bumps are there! I fell and smacked my arm with isn’t ideal when you’re getting up at 3 to fly!
7.9 Good
Pros: Bar and food were very good. Bed and shower were quite basic but good value for money. Staff and owners very friendly
9.0 Excellent
Pros: 10 minute drive from Luton Airport, a perfect stay for a late arrival at the airport. Very friendly and helpful owners. A nice pub for drink and food. Lots of parking. Excellent breakfast.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Bar staff were excellent
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Easy reach from Stevenage train station ... Room was clean and beds ever so comfortable. Coffee and tea sachets with lots of milk in the room was a delightful touch. The toilet and shower was spotless.
Cons: The fact that the toilet and shower was a shared setup with other guests. Would have preferred having private bathroom. Understand that there were some rooms with attached bathroom and our booking was for one such room. But our stay was only for one night and we were welcomed so warmly upon arrival that this was a small matter to bring up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: On arrival was a very kind and helpful person called Coner went out of his way to make me feel welcome. Nice touch with a free refreshing drink. Had a good nights sleep with a comfy bed. Internet fast and reliable. What a great place to stay Local people are friendly and you can feel the happy atmosphere of locals. Keep up the good work!!
Cons: On departure I was met with another kind person called Jerry the owner had a nice chat. Was telling me what he was doing to improve the property, to have en-suite in rooms. Myself look for that when saying places but didn’t bother me this time, because you can see the owner Jerry and the staff care about the customers And making improvements to the property. Will definitely stay at The poacher again.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: this is an estate pub really with rooms above. my room had a separate shower room. It has a self catering area it seems as well and a terrace on the roof. My room was a good size and comfortable. A huge TV. turned up at 10pm after a football match and the bar staff gave me a free pint and showed me to my room. I met the host the following morning, who offered me a lift into the town centre. if my team is in Stevenage's division again - I will definitely go to the poacher again
Cons: just what I wanted tbh
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cost, friendly staff, clean and large rooms and the location.
Cons: Nothing, I have returned a few times. It's great!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room, nice terrace and spacious shared kitchen. Comfortable bed. However the rooms are above the pub, so this can be noisy.
Cons: Noise from the pub
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was on top of a pub but it had its own entrance. The room was very clean and modern and the shower and toilet was spotlessly clean. The owner was very friendly and I would recommend this place to any one who wanted to stay there.
Cons: Nothing really. Maybe a few to many steps to get to the room on top as my girlfriend had a bad leg and struggled a bit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great experience staying here for the night. Was made welcome on arrival and was offered a free drink on the house. The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean, modern and well furnished. Bed was comfy and sheets were nice and fresh. Will happily stay again.
Cons: Nothing not to like
7.9 Good
Pros: The biggest like here is the staff... the owner and his partner were very friendly and could not be more helpful. Easy parking either side of the pub. Loved the roof terrace for a cuppa next morning. Handy to have a bar downstairs as well. There was access to a Kitchen and easy access in and out even after hours. It was a Pub with Live music, so you have to expect a little noise during pub hours at weekends... but we weren't bothered by that. Not air conditioned but there was a fan in the room as weather was warm. Gerry the owner is working hard to improve the already pretty good standard of the rooms and we would not hesitate to go back there.
Cons: Would have been nice to have en suite, but the bathroom was just next door so not that much of a problem (although I think a couple of the rooms do already have that). The plans are to develop the place so all rooms are en suite.. good for future stays
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel, nice owners, value for the money
