The hotel grounds and local area The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel. The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good. Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
lovely location, good restaurant
I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay. I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
Character hotel. Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
Location Staff and service
Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal. There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
I booked two rooms - 1 family room and 1 single room. The family room was spacious and comfortable. However, the single room was not very clean and there was evidence of damp - it was not satisfactory. There was also a lot of noise from the neighbouring bars on the Saturday night and whilst the Marlborough is not in a position to have any control of this it did mean that we got very little sleep until after 4am on the Sunday morning.
food options, central location noisy room, needs triple glazing
Staff very friendly and helpful Rooms and facilities perhaps a bit tired...
tea coffee in rooms the 'hot' breakfast was served before we had finished the cereal. It could have been hotter
Comfortable bed and good food Limited car parking
We were attending a wedding at the Fleece and this was ideally located. We requested a quiet room due to previous reviews about noise from the front, we were put in the annex in a newly decorated room. No issues with parking. Overall this hotel was ok, nothing special. Although the room was newly decorated the bathroom wasn't, there were 2 bad mis-spellings on the towel instructions in the bathroom which summed up the hotel really, lack of attention to detail. Remote control didn't work, bad reception on the 5 channels, really early breakfast (8:30 finish is far too early if you're on holiday), adequate breakfast but a lack of choice.
Staff were helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast
lamb shank evening meal poor. good cooked breakfast.
Nice clean hotel and ideal central location in Witney. Breakfast service each morning was utterly hopeless.
Excellent evening meal
Very friendly staff
Plesant staff. Decent breakfast
The hotel was in a great position to visit Burford and surrounding area. The food was first class and in fact servings were too generous! Lovely olde worlde hotel Would have liked a firmer bed
We only stayed for one night but it was great to get there and park at the hotel, book in dump our bags in the room and have a couple of drinks in the bar. We had a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket in our room, we chose to eat in the bar, we could have eaten in the restaurant, the food was gorgeous and the staff very friendly. it really is a beautiful old hotel a good breakfast in the morning. I probably would not have chosen the four poster room if another had been available, just because of the extra expense but on the other hand we do like a room within the hotel rather than in the courtyard of a hotel nothing to fault
Very clean. Accessibility. Easy to park. Walking distance to town centre. Lack of tv channels. People expect some Sky channels now. Slight road noise.
Staff making us feel well taken care of. On a busy street
Location and friendly staff.
Excellent food and very convenient location The fire alarn at 2.45am with no guidance or advice from the staff as to the problem
Convenience of location, comfort of the hotel, courteous, friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff, good quality food
Location and value The attitude of certain staff members
Lovely hotel, high standards but a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Really good food, very nice bar with good beer and a log fire (it was November after all), rooms clean, comfortable and well appointed. Popular with the local community too, always a good sign.
The unusal style of the room It was not very profesional, if you did not want a full English breakfast, the alternative was poor. Too noisey.
The four poster room was very cold due to the radiator not working. I was upgraded to the Faringdon suite which was one of the newer rooms. It was a comfortable room. The music from the bar could be heard until 11.00pm in my room. Also the breakfast was served across the courtyard in another freezing cold room. I could see the steam coming off my toast!! Upon leaving the hotel, I had to go and find someone to give the key back to by knocking on the kitchen door. Not very professional in my opinion. The majority of the hotel looks very tired which is a shame as it is such an old building which could have a lot of character.
The staff were very friendly and the room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is well situated in the middle of the town so plenty of opportunity to take a walk round and do some window shopping. Nothing to complain about at all.
Laid back attitude, staff very friendly, the food we ate was good, clean room public areas need cleaning, TLC would not hurt, very noisy, Lacks good professional managament, restaurant a joke, with old rotting door dump by piano, stained tables
Staff are a friendly bunch of people. Can be noisy.
Hotel situated in centre of market town has oodles of character ..Rooms tired but major referbishment in place, enjoyed stay Historic building in market square pleasant staff
Loved staying at what was an old coaching inn and enjoyed sleeping in what was an old Court Room, which was massive with plenty of style and nicelyt decorated. No complaints
Staff were friendly and hotel had pleasant surroundings. Staff lacked professionism and there was a general lack of leadership.
location good, interesting old building, very well stocked tea/coffee tray (with bottled water) let down by shabby, neglected courtyard and indifferent staff
Friendly helpful staff, building has lots of character Needs some maintenance & some areas tired, in need of refurbishment. New management need to be given Company support.
Pleasant atmosphere, cheerful staff and good food The noisy road outside
comfortable bed location not as suggested by website - was a long way out of the village. guest lounge closed most of the time. certainly not the cosy atmosphere suggested on website.
All the staff were very welcoming and breakfast was excellant Nothing
Their food was excellent, all staff went out of their to help you
The staff were friendly and the food was enjoyable. The quality of the two rooms were good (newly refurbished), but there was no mirror in the bathroom. Staff were aware of this.
Room upgrade. Bar area. Wide choice of food. Food was excellent on the first night. Just 'good' thereafter.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Food excellent Everything was good
The food at this hotel is absolutely superb, probably some of the best food we have ever eaten.
Relaxation with the comfort and willingness from staff to help with our needs. Food was excellant with a good choice on menu ....
This was a repeat visit so we knew we really liked the hotel enough to want to go back. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the cooking superb - especially from the extensive fish specials in the restaurant - and the room we had, spacious, comfortable accommodation. For those who like walking, the hotel is on a footpath - just walk out the back of the hotel and you're in beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Being on the A40 there is inevitable road noise, even in our room which was at the back of the hotel. This didn't spoil our sleep and was expected.
