The staff was very friendly and multilingual. The rooms were luxury (newly refurbished) especially considering it is a 3 star rated hotel. The food was very good and excellent value for money. Durbuy is only 5 km away. And the Ourthe flows right by the Hotel! Great also for families there is a playground with trampoline for children.
Good food, friendly and helpful staff. Location good for vistit to beutiful Durbuy.
we really liked everything- the room was very nice and clean, beautifully decorated. The restraunt is wonderful ! The mattress on the bed is too soft and sinking .
Very nice. Rooms were good size with nice well fitted bathroom. Breakfast very good.
Great hotel, great staff, great food and beautiful location. A wonderful base to discover the Ardennes! The sound proofing of hotel should be sorted out. We stayed in Room 17 and could not sleep before 02.00 am
Lovely location next to the river and excellent outside bar area. Rooms clean and comfortable with overhead power shower.
The silence ...., at night you do hear nothing at all! The top-class restaurant with great food at very reasonable prices. The people who are running the hotel and de staff are very helpfull and friendly. In the room there was no safe, no hotel documentation, no users guide for the telephone ( wake-up call ; service numbers ; emmergency call numbers ; etc ) . Although this has had no negative impact on our stay.
Very clean and comfortable rooms. Nice atmosphere and good location. Our room had a nice view. Very good value for money. Friendly staff. They provide us with a bed for our 4 years old son for free. Free parking. We would stay there again. ...just the weather :-)
the friendlyness and helpful attidue of all personel i did not stay long enough to comment here.
The countryside around Durbuy was beautiful with lots of walks. The Town is pretty and has lots of restaurants The restaurant staff did not reflect the welcoming attitude of the rest of the staff
Nice room, friendly staff & beautiful surroundings Not easy to shower in bath
Dinner and breakfast was very good, good accomodation (news paper, seats ...)
bath-room; location with view to the castle
I liked the style of the hotel and the room. The location of the hotel is really convenient. The view from the window of the room (facing backyard) was not very plesant but anyway the curtens were nice.
very accommodating staff, well maintained facilities, great restaurant, felt like a large country cottage. would reccommend to anyone for a day or a week. would like to see shower curtains or divider added to the bath tub
The staff Where Great, and its right in the middle of town.
The food was good and the staff were all very pleasat and helpful. We had some problems adjusting to a sleeping on a water bed! If I'd known we would have one, I might have requested a conventional mattress....
central location lack of designated car parking
The location - The town was wonderful
Food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful overall cleanliness and excellent value for money no
location when entering the room the room was too hot, opening the window did not help much (while it was definitely colder outside)
Very friendly staff, nice and clean, cosy room. Breakfast was in another hotel of same owner, on walking distance, but poorly replenished. At moment of booking the details about the free parking facility should have been provided.
Nice old building, comfortable bed, quality restaurant, great location in the middle of this smallest city of the world.
The very friendly and efficient staff The fact that you are obliged to have breakfast at the Sanglier Hotel in a very old fashioned room. The breakfast itself was excellent.
Best place for Relax.
great location, charming building, lovely village views staff were rude, bad wi fi connection, very small room/bathroom
Location, citycentre, Nice rooms, old style. Isolation is not very good, so you canhear inside the rooms. WC door did not close in a proper way, so you could not fully close it while using.
Good atmosphere to the hotel; fairly good use made of an old and very traditional building. Good restaurant - very busy the day we stayed. Staiurs could be difficult if you have much luggage - we were travelling light so no problem
Lovely old hotel and very comfortable nobody around for help or information. We were ready to book out on Saturday at 8.00 but no-one there at all! We had to wait around till 9.00 till someone appeared!No-one told us that this would be the case NOT a good start to our day.
friendly hotel staff nice location
good location, very helpful staff, nice breakfasts
Very accommodating staff. When they heard we were on foot from Barvaux they offered to drive us to our train at the end of our stay, which was much appreciated. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, with a lovely view. Breakfast was also really nice, and served until 11.00, which a late sleeper like myself can appreciate. If we go back here I am sure we will stay in the same place. Not a problem for US, but if you are a new couple and would like some privacy in the bathroom you may want to stay somewhere else. The bathroom door does not fit the whole frame, thereby leaving gaps around the door, so you can hear everything very well.
The hotel is right in the centre of Durbuy, with it's own parking. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well furnished.
Family run small hotel with full of hospitality. We had to leave the hotel a bit earlier so we were going to skip complementary breakfast, but they made sure to serve a breakfast before we left. The room where I stayed was cozy, clean and very functional.
All of the hotel staff is very kind. The room is nice and clean.
We were very pleased with this hotel. The family running it were very friendly and extremely helpful and the rooms were quite large with very comfortable beds and a good walk-in shower. There was free parking which was an added bonus and the breakfast was excellent. We will certainly stay again if ever in Durbuy.
friendly staff, clean new rooms
Service and food
Very nice and quiet hotel.
The place is quiet and ideal for short breaks in the countryside. Maybe the breakfast table could contain some veg (tomatoes, cucumbers...)
Nice quiet rural setting, friendly staff, comfortable room, very good buffet breakfast.
The location is great if you are looking for a nice quiet place to relax. The comfort rooms have an individual entrance, with a table and two chairs outside. Rooms are nothing special.
Accommodation very good value for money Food very poor value for money
Good swimming pool Upgraded to overpriced luxury room as room booked through site was so "unwelcoming". TV did not work, water failed at one point, found bed uncomfortable. Not value for money in any respect
Very quiet area, next to Durbuy, big parking space, nice garden, sauna and fitness room very good, hotel staff friendly and helpful Access to swimming pool very dangerous(I felt and hurt myself pretty bad, I was not the only one who felt) after 10:00pm doors closed but no lights outside to access hotel, need flashlight! In the room out of 3 lights 2 not working. Plugs damaged, very dangerous. In general too expensive for value, is classified as 4 star, should be 2-3 star
The member of staff who greeted us on our early arrival at 7 am was extraordinarilly helpful, accomodating and friendly. The webpage did not indicate that the Hotel was situated on the cliff above Durbuy. This in no way spoilt our stay at the Hotel.
The Shower in our room filled the floor like a swimming pool. It was one of those ones that you should sit in a bath and spray yourself with water. But the nozzle was spraying water everywhere and the shower had 2 speeds - nothing and tsunami. But this was the only bad point in our experience there.
very convenient parking facility - right next to the door very slow service in the restaurant - the dinner of 3 dishes takes 2 hours the shortest
Nice and quite hotel, friendly staff, great value for money.
Its a modern and comfortable hotel just 3 km from Durbuy. Great if you have kids, as there is a nice indoors swimming pool, a tennis court, and playground. Breakfast for just 10 euros is good and you can ask for eggs and bacon.
nice hotel with unusual setting stayed in one of the chalets near the japanese gardens and the walls between us and the adjoining chalet were a bit thin, hence: snoring noises at night
the dinners and leasure facilities in the hotel
room too small, no window, rather dark, very basic for 4*rating, bath i/o shiower, servicedesk often not manned, weird atmosphere
The vieux Durbuy hotel is not an hotel , it is just a sleeping place, no reception, no bar, no rstuarant, no services nothing... Everything is linked to the Sanglier des Ardennes hotel . I don't understand how you can still rate with 4* such an hotel and rate 3* the Sanglier....... which looks and probably is much better . Very disappointed with the Vieux Durbuy
Liked the location in the town in a quiet street. We could sleep with the windows open. Vieux Durbuy is an annex of Sanglier des Ardennes. Guests in vieux durbuy have breakfast and dinner in Sanglier des Ardennes, which makes Vieux Durbuy not really feel like a hotel. Sanglier des Ardennes is an okay place, but a bit worn. It could use a makeover,
Very friendly staff, fantastic restaurant. Typical old style with all modern comfort. Staff immediately switches to Dutch when they here you talk it with your family. Fab location.
Good location, clean room, good service (i.e. tidied on return each evening), practical & clean bathroom and shower. No comments above about staff and facilities because neither existed as such, although the support from Le Sanglier was fine (e.g. they provided a place for us to keep our bicycles) Somewhat annoyng that the double bed actually comprised twin beds next to each other, which tend to separate during the night. As stated in reviews, price is a bit high considering no breakfast, although we knew this in advance.
The hotel is quiet, beautifully decorated and of a high standard with a lot of character, The location is superb. The hotel is linked to the larger Sangrier Hotel in Durbuy which is truly spectacular in its old world charm and quality of restuarant. Being an old property with lots of character, the down side is that the rooms are slightly cosy and the noise from guests on other floors can be heard clearly.
High quality and newly renovated. Very nice rooms and excellent breakfast. Situated close to the village center
Very friendly staff, excellent location: downtown Durbuy only 5 minutes away and yet a quiet location with own parking space. Comfortable room. No negatives while we were there.
The Hotel was in an attractive, quiet, setting, yet within easy walking distance of many good restaurants. The welcome was very warm and the breakfast was excellent. The rooms were quiet, well appointed and comfortable. I would have expected tea/coffee making facilities in this category of hotel, but I realise that many French hotels prefer not to do so. There was a self-service bar in the hotel which provided coffee, not too practical when you're still in your nightclothes!
Relaxed sphere; probably because of season there was almost no staff, however, good self service was in place; walking distance of "city"center; quiet; private parking
Loved the place. Location, location, location. Everything felt new, very comfortable room, great bed and bathroom. Very good breakfast spread.
Bad information. Booked a "simple" room for me and my wife from France. Arriving - have to pay for a suite. 120 Euro instead of 75. The hotel management or Booking.com (?) refused the cancel the reservation. Mislead website information, really.
Excellent location and attentive and friendly staff
This is a nice hotel in the lovely village of Durbuy, it may be small but well woth a visit.
we found the restaurant was reasonably priced and made our trip there much easier since we were snowed in, making trips to other places difficult. it was very peaceful and with 4 children that is very welcome. my only disappointment was that my husband and i didn't have double beds instead we got twin beds
Helpfull staff. Room wasn't very clean. Breakfast expensive. Spa facilities strangely organised. You can rent a room with those facilities and cannot rent them seperately. Those rooms are reserved way ahead so when you get there, there is no availability.
convenient, well designed and comfortable. uncomplicated restaurant
space, good accomodation, good service and relaxed environment
Nice pool facilities, ok distance to the city. No minibar. Problem with the toilet, and it wasn't fixed during our stay. There should have been information about the hotel in the room (in English).
We had a wonderfull wellness room with all luxury on it. It was wonderfull The hotel did not provide any soap or shampoos and the prices of the minibar were quite high.
Very well organised, very clean, nice spaces, all facilities present, nice environment. Perfect location for a group of friends, organisations, clubs, etc. to spend some time in a quiet, green area. Plenty of activities around and facilities to relax. Unfortunatly no internet available in the room as promised on the website. In the morning quite noisy. Price was maybe a bit too high as the comfort room was clean and well-organized but not that large and did not include anything more than a classic hotel room. With 4 people in it (room has 4 beds), I'm afraid there would be a lack of space.
Comfortable and new-built hotel, nice place, good breakfast. There was no swimming pool and sauna available for the guests.
Setting is amazing in the Woods. Refurbished rooms very Nice. Also great solarium. Bar, restaurant closes at 10 pm. Way too early. By the time my kids were sleeping I couldn't get a drink.
Beautiful old house renovated, unfortunately, in Martha Stuart stile. Room door has 1-2 cm gap to hallway and is therefore not acoustically sealing. Plastic flowers are decorating the breakfast table, etc.
Very friendly staff & beautiful location (we knew because we visited Durbuy some years ago) were first class. Durbuy is the smallest city in the world so every sight and restaurant is nearby. After the rebuild of the hotel rooms we are surely going back. Good for you they are closed until march 2010 to rebuild hotel rooms (restaurant still open...). We hope they do a good job because we didn't like the beds, the showers, the ticking heating system and the creaky wooden floors. It did give you a peak in the past of Le Clos Des Recollets as a nuns cloisters...Hope they are able to preserve the atmosphere.
Great location and nicely furnished room. Breakfast could be better.
Small and cosy Language requirements
Very friendly staff. Very cosy and well decorated room
The hotel was very, very nice. Rooms were very big and comfortable. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend to anyone. We were on a weekend break to the F1 grand Prix which was 1 hr away.
Very central to all the towns we wanted to visit in the region, delicious and generous breakfast buffet, appreciated the warm heating in the room during the cold December weather. The hotel is situated close to the road, but fortunately, there are very few cars passing during the night.
The jacuzzi on the room
We booked into the suite with a jacuzzi and it was very nice. Our room was on the road side - and there was no noise from traffic. We had to go across the road for breakfast but it was less than 1min walk. Our room was overlooking a nice green area and it was very private. The landlady did not speak any english but our assistant was able to translate a few words, which was enough. We were roughly 5-8min drive to the town centre. It was walkable because of the small roads and would have taken at least 45min. We had the car so it was fine for us. The breakfast was very nice - fresh orangejuice, cereal and a small fry up - scrambled eggs & nice bacon. A lot of choice of fruit, yougurts, and fresh bread rolls.
Very friendly staff, great breakfast, lovely setting, great walking right from the B&B. The setting is really peaceful and green and charming. The B&B is right on a road that is noisy (with cars and motorcycles) during the day...you can easily hear these, but it quiets down almost completely after 8 pm and doesn't start back up until about 9 am
Nice breakfast; enough space in rooms. Not possible to shower while standing !!!
Nice, quite place. Good staff. Easy access to nearby villages.
The room looked neglected, there was a small fly on the ham at breakfast, on checking out I was told that they did not take credit cards which for a hotel/restaurant of this size was ridicules.
Friendly staff, central location Room decor was a little tired. But all in pretty good value for money & ideal for what we wanted to do.
very very good hotel
We loved the village and the countryside. We'll be back! The hotel was welcoming and well placed.
Good breakfast. Nice and clean rooms. Good value for money. Good location in centre of durbuy
This was exactly what we were looking for. The room was quite basic, but comfortable and clean, with a good bathroom. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was as expected. There are plenty of options for eating and drinking around the hotel, Durbuy is a lovely small town, and it is in easy driving distance of many sights and places to walk. I think they can sort out a parking pass if required, although we were silly and did not ask, so we ended up parking a 10-15 minute walk away, in the free car park at the edge of town. We did have to wait a few minutes when we arrived before there was someone around to check us in, as we arrived fairly late (about 20.30 - 21.00), and there was no bell or anything to let them know we were there.
value for money and the location
- Reasonable price - good location - spacy room - Some of our goods were removed from the room by the staff while we were out - it took a while before we understood that the poor-looking breakfast buffet was not that poor. You just just had to ask for everything. Juice, yoghurt, water(!) etc. were not on the table, but you got them if you asked. a little strange interpretation of a "buffet" breakfast. - toilet paper replenishment was not included in the daily room clean up, but you had to ask for that as well - our feeling was that either the staff was completely unprofessional by not noticing these basics, or the hotel was run by ultimate cost saving policy. If the guest is too shy to ask, the hotel saves money by not offering the services. The language barrier helps on this as (contrary to the advertisement) the only english speaking person was very seldom available.
The hotel was fine for our one night stay. If we would have stayed several nights (3 or more) we would have preferred a more comfortable room. The room was good, but basic. Breakfast was allright, but they could have made more out of it.
I am 82 years of age, walking with a stick, and the hotel made me most comfortable by giving me a rorm on the ground floor. No problem with stairs. Well appointed rooms for each one of us with generous beds and handy light switches. No reason to comment.
Very friendly Dutch owners, made us feel welcome. Quiet countryside environment outside Durbuy with great views. Nice walk through the forest to Durbuy. Very new and clean rooms. In the summer it would be advisable to bring a flyswatter, as there are no fly screens in front of the windows
Friendly atmosphere Clean and new room Lovely surroundings
It may be a stretch to call it a hotel. It is more like a bed & breakfast.
Friendliness and helpfulness of Gert and Anita. A beatufiul Villa with a beautiful garden. Fantastic homemade food, too! Highly recommended. Not at all. A wonderful, pleasant stay. I would hope to return with family.
The owners were very friendly and great hosts. The cleanliness of the hotel/room was excellent. Although the facilities in the rooms are basic they are newly furnished and there are also communal lounge and garden facilities.
Kindness of people and location in the natural environment.
erg gastvrije mensen, goede mix tussen huiselijk/persoonlike aandacht en professioneel
Nice brand new rooms, excellent very friendly host, lots to do in the area.
Genuineness of the owners. The whole facility, especially the beds. They were the best. Comfort & in the city of Durbuy were our main interests & we fulfilled our desires to the max. No!
Excellent breakfast. The room was very cold, with almost no heating. Lack of privacy.
The room was large and lovely! The dinner was very good. No fridge in the room
Stylish and comfortable with helpful staff. Good parking and delighfully located by the river. Excellent food - worth a visit for this reason alone. Sensible wine list to fit a wide budget.
The chamber ( junior suite),the staff, the menu (half board). The prakng.
The location in town is very good. Our room was quite big and the bed very comfortable. We had a lovely view over the river. The terrace is big and next to the river. The restaurant serves very good food and is probably the best in town. The dinner (three course menu "gastronomie") was excellent! The service of the staff was OK and not more. The breakfast could be improved. When we arrived, a lot of things were already gone and not refilled. Moreover, we were really bothered by the many flies in the breakfast room. The equipment of the bath room was rather simple, e.g. no shower curtain, the hair dryer did not work so well. The isolation of the room was not so good (wooden floors!). Conclusion: If you want to have a great dinner, the "Sanglier" is really recommendable. As far as the hotel is concerned, we feel that the value for money is not so good.
The location The staff was, in general, not very helpful.
The service in the the restaurant was the baddest I have ever experienced in my life. A young woman served for the guests, not bringing dishes, not opening the bottle of wine, while chatting with her colleague during the service. The training for the staff members, especially in the restaurant is indispensable for the hohel to survive in the future.
The atmoshere and decor were about all that we could say we liked. Very difficult to get internet connection. Phone did not work and when we asked bout it we were told some one would take care of it and no one did.
Owners are super nice people and will do anything possible to make you happy Unfortunately our room was on the side of the road and starting from 6am there were cars, trucks, tractors and all other kind of loud vehicles. Except that everything else was perfect.
Mr.&Mrs.owner were very kind.Nice breakfast, quiet situation, and nice location to enjoy that area.We stayed on november, but we learned this hotel is also very nice to enjoy summer holiday.
Country side manor with an excellent breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful in organizing dinners.
owners go out of their way to help. Beautiful garden, breakfast is top. Convenient near train station so easy to get to with public transport. No restaurant, but if you arrange early the owners cook for you, but not always possible
Small hotel with style - very convenient to Durbuy.
Excellent food but unfortunately service was rather slow on Saturday night. Good location for golf at Durbuy and 5 Nations
Friendliness and flexibility of staff and good food with comfortable clean room
The room were nicely furnished and is reasonably comfortable Sadly it seems none of the hotel staff speak any English, and had to fumble with basic French. We were not informed of any times for breakfast - which was poor even for Belgian standards consisting of bread/croissant/yoghurt and juice. Also as the ONLY guests in the hotel overnight, we felt uncomfortable and vulnurable.
A small, quiet hotel with great dining and friendly staff.
friendly reception, helpfull, simple but effiecient like everything
We liked the cleanliness of the room and the friendliness of the staff. And we loved the diner we ordered in the restaurant the second night.
excellent hotel, very clean, modern, excellent food, excellent staff, reasonable driving distance to Spa-Francorchamps no
The restaurant is fabulous.
great beds, great bathroom accessories (q-tips, nail file, shower cap cute), great breakfast included no
