Great place, nice room, great breakfast, nice staff We were unlucky to plan to spend 3 days there when the hotel was on renovations. We decided then to leave after only one night instead of 3. Otherwise Batu Ferringhi itself was not amazing: not much to do. One must also know that we were there in September, so it was maybe because of the low seasons. The last point is: impossible to swim in the sea because of jelly fish.
Every person is very friendly and comfortable for us.
Very comfortable, great location for water sports and nice swimming pool. It may look old from outside, but you`ll be surprised(in a pleasant way) how nice and new the room is. There is buggy shuttle to Rasa Sayang Hotel. You may want to have dinner at Rasa Sayang using the shuttle service, and it`s great to talk a walk. Look old from outside.
Some staff were not that friendly

I probably like just about everything and anything at Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La. The staff are just so courteous, friendly and accommodating, and when I mean the staff, it is at all levels; from the chambermaid to the General Manager. The complimentary use of the internet at the lobby was such a big plus plus because it helped a lot for a holiday business traveller like me who doesn't carry a laptop around! Nothing really, other than perhaps, the night live music down at the Garden Cafe could be better off further away, such as maybe the new restaurant house by the beach. For noise intolerant residents, the night live music may not be favourable to them. As for myself, it did not bother me.
The location, breakfast, and the activities in front of the hotel were great. The hotel is located in the middle of the night market and is currently under renovation (almost completed and looks great). The pictures for the rooms in the website reflects the hotel before the renovation. The room size was small but acceptable.
Very nice room and staff
The location is prime but beach was out of bounds due to third party activities eg horse riding, jet ski, parasailing, speedboats. Shang should obtain approval or lease a stretch of beach and cordon it off for the hotel guests' exclusive use. Hire out your own activities at a price lower than the third parties'.
It was a very well mainteined hotel and I would definately recomment is and go and visit again if i eer went back to Penang . None
the location, great rooms, pool and food. put on smoking floor (again)....several things wrong in room...not a good band in Hard Rock Cafe.

The people who tried to make our stay comfortable. nothing special, the only thing I may advise is thet tha management should make sure that this are kept maintained well otherwise everything will look old in no time.
The location.The friendly approach by all levels of staff. The cleanliness of the facilities and the security offered.For a family with young children, the kiddies' corner and swimming pool were a "success story".
The location of the hotel right on the beach and the excellent pool/outdoor facilities. The reception check-in located in noisy bar area. The breakfast dining room was overcrowded and noisy.
Cleanliness of the room , the lighting of the room and provide DVD player , so children like to stay at room and they feel comfortable .
New hotel, hence it is clean The finishing of the hotel is poor, can't imagine how it would be years from now. Some general restroom locks are already faulty, breakfast area has a lot of flies & bathroom leaks water to the dry powder area.

Love the rock style. Room setting and facilities. I specifically asked for breakfast boxes as I have to leave really early the next morning to catch my flight. And it's quite a long way from the hotel to the airport I have low blood sugar I have to eat. Lady at the transportstion counter promised she would reserve two boxes for me. The next day When I asked for them the receptionist simply shrugged and told us he didn't receive such request. So I told him I requested and I hope something would be done at the time, he responded with an expression that he doesn't care at all and would not want to do anything about it. It was such an disappointment. I can't believe I stayed in this hotel which my friend recommended and had such an unpleasant experience. I would not choose hardrock ever again.
