Lovely pets that were adorable, lots of strokes to be had I stayed in the four poster room and I could have stayed in bed all day!! So cozy Shower was powerful and so hot, amazing after a mountain climb or even a walk! A handy fridge in the hallway Homemade cakes in the room with homemade peach schnapps! 7.9 Good
Pros: Bathroom was modern and shampoo was great. Breakfast was very good, too.
Cons: There was no wifi in the room. The common room is basically just the breakfast room with uncomfortable chairs and laid tables but even there wifi reception was fickle. It only worked outside in the garden - bad luck for you if it rains. The house is located right on Main Street and soundproofing of the windows is lousy. Luckily there is not much traffic at night but bring ear plugs if you want to sleep in. The bed was too soft and right next to the head is a trap door going out to the roof which I found rather weird.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Superb historic stately home brought in to the 21st Century. Beautiful grounds. Plenty of space and on-site parking. It made a real change to be able to lie full length in the bath without having to bring my knees out of the water. The water was plentiful and hot, and the shower didn’t disappoint either. No problem with WiFi as there are Wi-Fi repeaters throughout and there appeared to be no resource contention.

Cons: Nothing for a quiet break
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Set in a great location and manned with efficient and very helpful staff the Hall is an excellent base for the southern Lakes and Fells. The accommodation is comfortable and well equipped. The food was very good.
Cons: There is a wonderful menagerie of peacocks, geese and chickens on the front lawn : the cockerel however was an early riser.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was really good as was the rest of the food. Rooms were good enough for us although doors were a little noisy. Staff helpful and really nice
Cons: I didn't mined the dogs but their owners could of been more considerate to other guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just about everything. The food was great. Good selection of drinks. Really friendly staff. Top location. The cottage was fantastic, the hall is very scenic and the bar and restaurant area top class
Cons: Aside from the weather which we can't blame the hall for the only gripe was the drive. For 5 middle aged motorcyclists we really struggled with the gravel driveway..it was very deep and very difficult to ride across and very precarious trying to securely park on the side stand. A small hard parking area near to the entrance would have helped. No problem if you are in a car tbh. It really is only a small gripe because the rest was excellent.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: excellent location, village green church and pub surrounded by awe inspiring hills beckoning the fell walker, good beer and food a great honest pub accommodation and eating experience with helpful and friendly staff and owners. great value and a jewel for a break in a walking paradise.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff, food and location were great.
Cons: Room was far from cosy, looks like last time it saw a paint brush was back in 1970!!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice room, everything we needed, nice ensuite. Good that we could get packed lunches made up to go hiking - even using my wife's dairy-free margarine (brought with us) for hers due to an allergy - as there aren't many shops in this remote corner of the Lakes. Nice to have 2 different pubs with different menus on hand. Obviously as both parts are pubs, and we were there on a bank holiday weekend, it was noisy until about 11pm, but this wasn't a problem for us, and the staff must have been incredibly effective at telling people to shut up/go away after that as it was quiet for sleeping. Beautiful part of the world in this remote and scenic valley, with good access for climbing Scafell Pike and many others.
Cons: Minor, but it would have been good to have a towel rail to hang damp towels - you can see that the back of the pine door was going a bit mouldy from the damp seeping in below the hooks there - or varnish/oil the bathroom door so water can't seep in!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place to stay. Fantastic food and craft beers downstairs, then a comfy room (with amazing shower) upstairs. All in the peace and quiet of a great, fairly unfrequented corner of the Lakes
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Breakfast was amazing, well cooked, and excellent choice. Area was a bit quiet, but possibly the time of year. Hotel was lovely, staff very friendly, and fellow guests were very helpful as well. Beach was extremely close (just across the road). The whole area was very clean. I would stay here again, but possibly earlier in the year. We chose this hotel as it was near the event we were attending. Definitely value for money.
Cons: Can't fault the hotel at all. The area was just too quiet for us. Would still stay here again, now I know I need to be prepared for a bit of travelling.

Pros: The location mainly. The lady who bought the key described the property as posh hostel which is quite accurate.
Cons: All was fine except that there was no one on front desk. The red phone was there instead.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome location, great customer service, breakfast was free house with lovely big kitchen, just opposite to miniature train Station. Be careful when you drive don't take Hardknott Pass, its killer , unless you want adventure.
7.9 Good
Pros: It was cheap and suitable for us as walkers only needing a place to sleep in parking good
Cons: Mobile reception non existant
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Was a but dubious after reading the reviews but it was really nice. Great location, lovely room. The kitchen facilities were great, and being able to make your own breakfast (eggs, toast, cereals) for a donation was good too.
Cons: The phone at reception didn't work very well when we wanted to check out
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I was a little worried about staying in this house due to some previous reviews, How wrong was I, the room was lovely, clean with en suite with everything provided. The lovely staff had fresh ground coffee ready in the pot, with biscuits and fruit laid out. The house is massive with beautiful gardens and everything you could think of provided for you free of charge, the kitchen was stocked with cereals, various breads, eggs, tea, coffee and fruit juices, all that was asked in return was a small donation in a box.
Cons: Some guests in other rooms were going from room to room banging doors until gone midnight, however that is of no fault of the house, some people are just ignorant unfortunately.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really quiet, very clean. Great value for money
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location of hotel is amazing ! It's in middle of nature . Owner is good at heart and with smiling face , suggested good visiting places. Arrangements and cleanness of room hotel is perfect.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really nice place
5.0 Okay
Cons: We couldn’t get into the property on our arrival as there were no staff and the key box they suggested when we phoned them was empty, we had to be let in by another guest, we stayed for 3 nights and didn’t see a single member of staff the whole time. The establishment was advertised as a hotel but it felt a lot more like a hostel. We would not recommend and will not be returning.

Pros: Bathroom was very modern and clean
Cons: Squeaky ceiling in loft area.

Pros: The bedroom was clean. The cooked breakfast options were adequate.
Cons: The restaurant was not open for meals on both Friday and Saturday nights so alternatives had to be found. There was no alternative to the cooked option for breakfast, eg fruit or yogurt. The bar was not open. The shower was inadequate. There was no one on reception except when we arrived.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms spacious (bigger than average) with comfy king size beds. Good choice for breakfast and staff friendly and welcoming. Would stay again.

Pros: Location, friendly staff, lovely property
Cons: No evening meals/ bar after long days walking although nearest pub was close but full
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff and breakfasts.
Cons: Quilt was a bit heavy for this time of year.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The wonderful view over Thirlmere. Nice breakfasts.
Cons: Very little space for our clothes. The fact that we would have to give notice if we wanted dinner, and the only option was a £40 full meal at a fixed time. This is not a convenient arrangement for hill walkers who don't know when they will be back. However, the nearby pub was happy to accommodate us at a time of our choosing and didn't care how much or little we wanted to eat.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and beautiful location. Very relaxing and peaceful village and location also near to Scafell Pike which was our main reason for visiting. Lovely hotel with a good breakfast and very comfortable room/bed. Will definitely go again.
Cons: the M6!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location. Views stunning. Helpful staff. Simple and comfortable hotel in old converted house on quiet setting
Cons: Bath towels very small! Really need to provide larger ones!
6.7 Good
Pros: Friendly staff. Great location. Pleasant bedroom. Good breakfast.
Cons: We went expecting a hotel and found what was essentially a b & b. The bar is genarally closed and, breakfast apart, the restaurant is now only open 2 or 3 evenings a week. Public space is therefore unecessarily limited. The potential is enormous but currently unfulfilled.
