Every staff member I encountered was smiling and went out of their way to say hello, open doors, offer to help, etc. Very impressive!
I really liked everything about this place. My room was very stylish, and it came with all the usual amenities. The room was smaller, so I'm not sure if I would be happy there if I had to share the space with someone else. I don't know if all the rooms are that size, or if I just got a small room because I was by myself. For just me, it was the perfect size. The AC works well, which I've come to learn isn't a given at many "upscale" hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of everything in Berkeley, so there are plenty of restaurants, drugstores, cafes, etc. within walking distance. It is conveniently located next to the downtown Berkeley BART station. I didn't have a car, so I didn't need to deal with parking, but I imagine it's not easy or cheap. The restaurant has really good food. There is plenty of seating in the lobby/bar area to meet with people to discuss business or have a couple drinks. I just really liked it here.
They focus so much on helping each customer as much as possible, that several of us stood waiting at the check in desk for a really long time while one obnoxious customer waxed poetic about all the things he wanted to do while he was in Berkeley. They need to be more conscious of calling for help when a line starts to form.
Bar & restaurant were under renovation-- if I had known at time of booking I would have stayed somewhere else
Conveniently located in downtown Berkeley, across the street from the BART station and a couple blocks from the Cal campus. Some nice restaurants and bars nearby. Very nice accommodations and this was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in. I never heard a single sound outside of my room.
Rooms are a bit small but still very nice and comfortable.
Location. Front desk service was horrible. Room Service was worst. Terrible food. Had a hair in it. Oatmeal was lumpy
Service was way off.
Clean and vast room, everything working as it should.
Since my son started attending Berkeley two years ago, I only stay at the Hotel Shattuck when visiting him. Thus far, I've stayed at there six times. I have NEVER been disappointed in the accommodations. Admittedly, some reviewers complain about the price. But, hey, considering the location, accommodations, staff, and amenities, I'm not going to complain.
The room was fine.
No coffee pot in the room and the service downstairs was slow to nonexistent. Also, we had dinner at FIVE one night and my guest's tip amount was changed!!!
We were moved to Room 551 the second night which was a larger room with heat and a view of San Francisco and the bay. We were much happier with this room.
The first night we were put in Room 251 which had no heat, was too noisy, too small and no view except ductwork. We were not happy and complained.
The room was very nicely done...loved the wireless and the ice machine (I know, these two features seem unconnected...). The valet was perfect every time. The location should be promoted as good for UC Berkeley events. It was a 10 or 15-minute walk to our campus events so was great.
The noise from the street (even though we requested a quiet room) was a little disconcerting--we were in room 321.
Right next to subway.
The staff was gracious and helpful--from the front desk to the cleaning crew. Fun, upbeat decor and great location.
The room was clean and modern.
The room was quite noisy. The pillows were filled with real bird feather, which caused allergy.
The design was beautiful. The room was probably the smallest we stayed in on our trip but was so beautiful, clean and modern with that it was our favorite.
Onsite parking would have been nice.
It was clean, well decorated, have wireless and superior food for breakfast and dinner.
Beds and bedding were excellent. Staff except night concierge (Jason?) was very good.
The hotel needs to make a deal with the parking garage across the street for a special rate for Hotel guests. Our parking bill added another $25 a day to our stay. Guests should at least get complimentary coffee/tea in the morning. It's insulting to be charged $2 for a paper cup of hot water. No morning paper anywhere in the hotel was irritating.
This hotel was outstanding for location, comfort, convenience, outstanding staff, free internet, quiet yet central, excellent restaurant, and personable, two days after check-in, the front desk person greeted me by name.
Two things absolutely. The first is hospitality would be an in room coffee machine or in lieu of that, free morning coffee downstairs. The second is for inquiring minds. There was a huge flat screen TV with poor reception and even less channels.
