9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast worthy of a five star hotel. All furnishings were in keeping with the property, quite delightful.
Cons: The en-suite bathroom was beautiful but the bath was a challenge. Perhaps a little further from the town centre than anticipated but public transport runs a bus every eight minutes. Taxis are very cheap.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very warm welcome. The room was beautiful and the breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was great.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The choice available for breakfast was amazing (including home made bread and jams/marmalade) but it was a bit over cooked which was a shame. Host very helpful with suggestions of where to eat and how to get back to the B&B.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location- 30 min walk to Botany Bay one way and Margate main sands other way. Delicious homemade breakfast with jams and cakes the owner bakes. The bus stop for buses from Canterbury or to Broadstairs/ Ramsgate it’s just few min walk down the road. For sure we will be staying here again
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcome, quick to fix a small issue in the room and amazing home made bread and preserves. Ideal location for swimming at Walpole Bay and a short walk into town.
Cons: Wifi wasn't working, which may have been a problem for some guests. This wasn't a problem for my visit.
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was great everyday and very tasty. We liked the ambience of all the art deco lamps that were left on to greet you in the hallway and lounge when you came home late in the evening.
Cons: We were in room 2 and the shower was a little tricky. It only went on for 30 seconds if you pressed the on button. What we didn't realise until later is that you had to press it very hard until the orange light went on to make it stay on. Would be good for future guests if host lets them know.

Pros: The location. And the guy serving breakfast. He was so nice, kind and happy which is effecting you positively the first thing in the morning.

Cons: All good here......
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The View from the balcony
Cons: Everything ok
5.5 Okay
Pros: The decor in the blue suite is nice and quirky, and the bathroom in particular is really fun.
Cons: We were a bit disappointed that there was no fridge in the room and so the only milk provided is UHT and there is no way of keeping your own things cool. Although we got our welcome information on the day we hadn't received an email in advance, and so didn't realise we'd be letting ourselves in and not actually meeting anyone. Felt a little impersonal. Also, the blind in the blue suite only goes about 85% down the window, so the room is very light all night, first from the lights on the promenade and then as the sun comes up. We slept very poorly because on a weekend the noise also carries a lot from the pub around the corner at 3.30am when it's kicking out time.
9.5 Excellent
Cons: No block out blind and found t difficult to sleep although owner said she would discount a future booking ..

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The area is familiar to me and it was on a convenient location
Cons: Basin surround needs replacing in bedroom
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Serena and Peter are absolutely charming hosts! The location is also excellent: a few minutes' walk from the station; with parking; a tennis court and bowling green between the house and the sea so nice and open; perfect for walking along the prom in either direction or going to the beach. Breakfast was very nicely cooked. I booked late so had to share a bathroom but all was very clean. A facility I didn't use but that's useful is the option of buying a drink there and having a simple evening meal - they are Italian and risotto was on offer!
Cons: I am fussy and I don't like wood chip paper! Some guests may love it or not even notice. I expect Serena and Peter inherited it (when they took the place over) along with the rest of the furnishings and decor. I realise this is a question of cost-effectiveness but most B&Bs have wardrobes and chests of drawers and cupboards. What a guest really needs is a hanging rail and a couple of shelves so they can unpack a bag and see all their stuff. So in my room I wouldn't have a cupboard under the washbasin - I'd just have a shelf. I wouldn't have a wardrobe but a rail. I wouldn't have a bedside table but a small shelf. I'd swap the tuffet for a chair. However, I understand that to change these things would be too expensive. I just think it's a pity that B&Bs go for furniture when shelves, hooks, and rails would do the job better and take up less space.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Only stayed for one night and had to leave early but the hosts were lovely, the room was clean, we were offered an earlier breakfast but had to leave before.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A bit dated but very clean and friendly
9.5 Excellent

Pros: Clean, comfortable with great service. Highly recommended!
Cons: While the continental breakfast was fine I would prefer the option of a cooked breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: What a fabulous find . You must try out the restaurant ,the food was excellent ,especially the sharing puds, lovely village & friendly locals , about 30 mins drive from Broadstairs , Margate ,Whitstable ..etc . Overall really hard to find any fault .we were asked on arrival what time we wanted our breakfast served in our room and each morning it was delivered right on the dot . Clean towels and fresh bed linen on the 3rd day . Spotlessly clean .we could go on but would just encourage people to try it for themselves. We are sure you would not be dissaponted .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is freshly made and just the best
Cons: WiFi connection was not great this time for some reason.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a fantastic 4 night stay in this restaurant with rooms. We had a very pleasant (and quiet) room and the quality of the evening meals was to a very high standard. It was a good and varied menu and we tried the vegetarian, meat and fish dishes during our stay, all very enjoyable and to a consistent high quality. A continental breakfast was provided to our room in the mornings, which was really nice and worked well. Special mention to the staff who really made our visit such a pleasant stay and relaxing place to eat. Thank you. Highly recommended.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about our stay was fantastic. The room was amazing beautiful decorated and stylish. The breakfast was the best ever such good quality ingredients all brilliantly put together. Staff were just lovely and friendly.
Cons: There was nothing I didn’t like
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room and bathroom, roomy, freshly painted and clean. The continental breakfast was outstanding.
Cons: The downstairs guest entrance door at the rear can be fully locked from the inside, as we found out when we arrived back at the building around midnight after our family event. It seems the occupants of the other guest room had locked the door by mistake by pushing the button up. Luckily we managed to wake them and gain entry.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It feels lucky to have found this place. We stopped off on the way to Dover to catch a ferry and again on the way back It’s a restaurant with 2 guest rooms above. The food was excellent: they had a steak deal on and it was no ordinary steak - i.e. really really good. £40 for 2 steaks and a bottle of wine. Also the crab starter was lovely as was the cheese for pud. The room was spacious, well furnished , clean with a large comfy bed. We got proper milk in a fridge, not UHT, and a brilliant continental breakfast was served in the room: consisting of granola, gooseberry and elderflower compote, pain au chocolat, toast, and organic strawberries. Oh and freshly squeezed orange juice. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. It’a a nice village to explore too. And there’s a beer garden. Would most certainly stay there again.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The animal loving hosts really rolled out the red carpet, welcoming me and kindly helped carry in my multitude of luggage. As our weather can be rather changeable, I had a large selection of clothing just in case but luckily a heatwave as forecast was spot on. I had not realised on previous stays that you only use keysafe if no reply on ringing the bell so it was great to meet Pam as well on this latest visit.
Cons: Pity they do not offer breakfast but guide in rooms gives local eateries that cater for all tastes.

Somerville Hotel - Margate - Building
13
9.2 Excellent (173 reviews)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was included even though it wasn't advertised as such. Check-in is by 5pm but owners extended to 9pm as per our request. Located close to the beach and the railway station. Great shower. Excellent sea view.
Cons: Check-out is 10am instead of the 11 or 12 I'm used to - this might not be an issue for other people! There was a noisy cocktail bar across the road near the beach that would make an early night's sleep impossible, despite the good double-glazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An excellent welcome. A very comfortable stay. Great breakfast. Very helpful when we needed an early start one morning.
Cons: Somerville Hotel were extremely helpful in changing the room I initially booked through the website. I could not get enough information from the site to make sure I booked an appropriate room for my husband and I. The room they transferred our booking to met our needs very well. It is the website that is letting them down.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: both very good
Cons: weather
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were well cooked, tasty and ample and the service by Teresa was efficient and cheerful. Our room was clean and comfortable and we were provided with a fan that was very useful because of the hot weather (30 deg plus). Our hosts KIm and Teresa were friendly, charming, knowlegeable and made us feel at home from the time we arrived and made other guests just as welcome. The hotel was just over the road from the beach, ideal for a swim to cool off, and the nearby on street parking is not restricted, and is covered by security cameras. It was a great place to stay for a short break and for us to meet some family members from Germany whom we had not seen for a long time. Thank you very much!

Pros: The location is excellent. Right in the Centre of Margate where all the good food shops are.
Cons: I didn't have a sea view unfortunately as all those rooms were not available.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location for bars, restaurants and shops. Nicely decorated and spacious room. Nice rooftop bar but very small sat instead sat on the terrace of the restaurant for a drink at sunset. Lovely cookies in the room on arrival. Parking nearby and easy to sort via the hotel for a permit.
Cons: Expensive but you pay for the location. Air con didn't do much and the safe was broken. Overall nice design but some areas could do with a bit of sprucing up.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The roof terrace. The breakfast. The standard of the room.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff at the hotel were lovely and worked hard to make sure my stay was enjoyable. They took care of a minor problem expediently and to my complete satisfaction. The room itself was beautifully decorated and comfortable in every way. The breakfast was outstanding--made to order meals and a great selection of side dishes.
Cons: I did not have a safe in my room as advertised. My room key stopped working on a couple of occasions which was inconvenient.

Pros: Beautiful renovation, fantastic rooms, views and friendly staff

Pros: Michelle - a wonderful host Our room - eclectic Location - close to all amenities Cats - purry furries
Cons: There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like.
6.3 Good
Pros: Nice themed bedroom and a good welcome on arrival.
Cons: Parking was an issue had to drive around looking for a space there were no spaces adjacent to the hotel as mentioned in the response from the reception. Room was on a busy side street so not great with the window open I had asked for a quiet room. Bath only no shower which I had also requested bath had shower attachment so I did not get a wash during my stay. Room rate was £99.00 with no breakfast included so expensive for the accomodation.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely themed rooms host exceptional wonderful breakfasts cute cats a bonus
Cons: Evenings were a bit noisy with traffic and pub opposite parking could have been an issue in high season.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Michelle is such a lovely host, we didn’t want to head down for breakfast so she left us a cute tray of continental food outside the room for us to enjoy upstairs. When she greeted us, she was very warm and helpful, and when we were leaving she was very accommodating with a request to stay a little longer then the check out time. The room was comfortable and clean and the hotel itself is well located, literally 1 min from the beach. I would return!
Cons: Being so close to the centre, it got a little noisy at night altho this was short lived and is completely unavoidable. It didn’t disturb my sleep though.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location very quirky and different

Pros: I loved the individuality of the rooms. The location was spot on. Michelle was very accommodating and the little touches like cold bottled water and toiletries were an added bonus. Very clean rooms and although central you get a good nights sleep. We will return. We left something behind and Michelle alerted us to the fact so we were able to return.

Pros: Everything was perfect
Cons: Leaving
5.8 Okay
Pros: Good location to get to beach, bars and restaurants, car park facility. Only one member of staff is worth mentioning Ashton he made us feel welcome he was always polite and professional.
Cons: Booked to include Breakfast but was a big disappointment only continental, which when we had stayed before the breakfast was the best asset. The room had dropped in standards stained carpets, dirty drawers and stained cups. Bathroom not en-suite and only one dressing gown provided. Car park still not signed posted with it being on a one way system can be quite annoying. Some staff had a could not careless attitude.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nicely furnished and decorated large room with reasonable-sized bathroom, and proper big towels! The breakfast was good. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The location in Ramsgate is great.
Cons: The bed had a very thick duvet on it which would be great for winter, but was way too thick for summer, especially with no A/C in the room, so I was very hot at night. I'd suggest providing thinner duvets or even just a sheet for warm summer nights. The car park was locked both nights I came back. Though there is a key at the hotel, it does mean an extra trip. I don't think there is much the hotel can do about this as the car park is shared with local residents. Lots of stairs and no lift so probably not an ideal hotel for those with walking difficulties.
7.5 Good
Pros: The bathroom, the breakfast.
Cons: Having to climb right to the top with walking stick. Only room with twin bed.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly helpful owners, really clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was superb.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful period house with spacious rooms and friendly hosts!
Cons: Parking was free but was on another street nearby
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Superb breakfasts, lovely house with lots of character and great owner/managers who made us feel at home straightaway. Plenty of advice from the owners about what to see and do in the area too. Easily walkable to the main centre of town and with a nice local pub, one of the best in town for quality live music. Informal but attentive service from the owners and their staff, great!
Cons: We had the smallest bedroom in the house I believe - it wasn't huge but it had ensuite shower and WC and was perfectly adequate for a short stay.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely bedroom with huge comfortable bed. Room had a rocking chair. Large bathroom with a very deep bath. We had front 1st floor bedroom. Two other bedrooms are at rear of house with one having access to beautiful garden. Peter & his wife made us very welcome. They picked us up at station & took us there when we left. They gave us a fantastic breakfast & tried to give us something different each day. They even allowed us the use of their beachhut for which they normally charge. Property is about 10 minutes walk downhill to sea & town, bit longer going back as uphill. Lots of good restaurants & pubs nearby. There are 2 bus stops within few minutes walk which run a “loop” service to Margate & Ramsgate so easy to get around with no car.
Cons: Building is on main road which we found quite noisy with windows open. Windows are treble glazed so not so noisy when shut. We were given a large fan to help us sleep with shut windows.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We liked the relaxed atmosphere, the food was great, people were lovely, comfy bed, nice shower and plenty of hot water. Couldn't have been better.
Cons: nothing could have been better.
