Great breakfast! Nice rooms.
The location: I appreciate to be in the city centre 1 - the smell all night long into the toilet room. 2 - to be without a private park zone.
Central location, free parking, nice room, excellent breakfast.
Nice and friendly staff
Location was excellent.
Breakfast was god
good parking. nice and quite no
Location next to the railway station The standard of the room does not justify its price. I stayed at the Hotel Savoy in Jonkoping over the weekend and it was fabulous.
There wasn't a lot about this hotel to praise. It was summer and Lillehammer is probably at its best in winter but this hotel needs a serious makeover anyway the best thing is the location in the centre of town but still only about 1 minutes drive from the main E6 road. Plenty to dislike. The hotel is very out dated and needs some care and attention, the rooms are well past their past in terms of layout and comfort. It is not good value for money at all. When checking out their credit card machines had gone off-line so they insisted that we had to pay for the room in cash - lucky we had the cash available but for a hotel not to be able to take a credit card and then have no viable back-up plan seems to me in this day and age a real problem.
People were friendly and breakfast was good.
located across from train station, small but good breakfast very old furniture and decor, but newer bathroom. needs remodeling
The hotel is located very close to the pedestrian street. THe superior room is very spacious. I asked for double room with king-size bed when booking but on arrival we were given a twin bedded room without any note. So we aksed for change and since king-size were not available they offered us a superior room (for extra money) with queen-size bed. The bed was very small and had a big space between it and the back wall - so the pillows were always falling down there. The TV was quite small also. The hairdryer was lacking power so I could not dry my hair sufficiently. The breakfast room is located in the far end and was very cold. The food choice was quite poor. The reception lady did not care much for her guests and did not even smile or say good-buy when we checked-out.
The hotel is situated in the City Center, with easy parking. The bed was fairly comfortable and the room was nice and clean.
Very good location in Lillehammer with easy access to ski bus, railway station and the centre of the town. In the room there was no coffee/ tea facility, no hairdryer.
The staff were friendly and helpful, when we arrived at 10pm they got us some bread and snacks to eat. They were very efficient. We had a lovely fresh breakfast. They even allowed us to make a couple of sandwiches for our long journey north the next morning and gave ice lollies to our girls.
Hotel very well located, easy access, friendly. Rooms downstairs even if they have no view, are really calm and the curtains mask effectively the light. Efficient front desk.
Evening buffet included in the price. Very nice and friendly staff. We didn't arrive until late(after midnight) and we received a bowl of soup on arrival!
Room rate includes Breakfast and evening Smorgasbord-style light dinner. Food great. Main Street location easy walk to everything. Very friendly and helpful staff. Expensive, by other European City standards. no swimming pool,
Friendly staff and impressed with evening meal included. Private garage where you can keep motorbike og car. none
Location, light diner, Small rooms, and beds, basic for 4 stars hotel.
Staff and hygiene was really good The Breakfast
Fine location in Storgata, inviting room, great offer of waffles and light evening meal included in the price, good design throughout - and still a feeling of home away from home. For the price I paid, this hotel was good value indeed. The towels in the bathroom were perhaps a little small.
location is excellent, very quiet and peaceful, on a hill above the town. the reception staff spoke a pretty poor english (very strange for Norway, actually). anyway, they seemed to understand everything I've said, so that we managed to communicate to each other :)
the big room the noise of the fridge in my room
I stayed at two other hotels during my time in Lillehammer, and this hotel was not only the cheapest (even for a deluxe room), but by far the best and offered beautiful scenery, comfortable room, and a helpful staff. The breakfast was by far better (and yes, you clean up after yourself as another review mentioned, big deal!) and they have a recreation room and washer/dryer available to use.
The Birkebeineren is a complex which was used for accommodation for Olympic athletes. The room was really a suite with two rooms which included a pull out to make an extra bed if needed. We had a fridge, two TVs and nice bathroom facilities. The breakfast was very good and parking was free and near by. The staff were great ambassadors for Norway. The only negative aspect of the stay was that we had some difficulty finding the hotel and Lillehammer is hard to get around in. Parking is expensive in town.
Family apartment was good
The location availability of parking situation in nature
Clean, spacious, warm Nothing
Large room with plenty of space for luggage, clean, easy to carry luggage in and out. The hotel was built with prefabricated modules to be used during the Winter Olympic games in 1994. The guestbed for the kids was in a poor shape, and the staff did not compensate for the fact that our 16 year old son did not sleep much the night we stayed there. We hope that the hotel will fix the guestbed, and that future customers will be able to sleep better.. The receptionist told us that they had ordered new mattresses, but we told them that it was the bed itself it was something wrong with. The breakfast buffet is not impressive, but fair enough.
Nice place and price is ok, if you compare to other hotels in Norway. No restaurant to eat dinner.
The young lady at the reception really had a happy disposition, and the dining table and the fridge right at the room's entrance certainly helped to make us feel at home. Having known Birkebeineren as a youth hostel, I enjoyed the old pictures on the walls. Great breakfast! Nothing serious, but the bed was a bit too soft. And it would be nicer if, at unfolding the sofa, the bed would be ready for the kids. (We got there pretty late and tired).
Nice restaurang Everything was Ok
city centre location in the quaint little town room was a little small and only shower curtain in bath mad the hole floor wet during shower
Room comfortable, clean hotel, free internet connection, elevator shower gives problems because the water comes out and fills a portion of the bath
Nice and friendly staff, nice breakfast area, and a nice restaurant in the basement. I have stayed at the same hotel twice. I liked it and slept well the first time. The second time I had some water pipe flushing next to my bed from rooms on the second floor I presume. In addition, there was some kind of rock concert (sounded like it was in the room next to mine) apparently in the basement.
Comfortable rooms Strong smell of smoke in lift. Meat filled takeaway breakfast when we had ordered vegetarian. Male front desk person who refused to open garage at 12.30 in afternoon because he wasn't on duty, yet was in the hotel - we had to find a way to open it for ourselves!
Good beds! Only one key to the room. Problema with TV. Not comfortable showet and very, very vold in the breakfastroom. I ate with gloves on
Friendly people at the reception desk The bathroom wasn't cleaned during our stay of 3 nights.
food, rooms, pancakes, tv set, beds...
Excellent service and friendly staff. Room was very clean and quiet. Soap dispenser not working.
. basic room, good hotel for one night, very good location
Nothing. It was the only one available, otherwise I would have never ever chosen it.
The accommodation was very clean, however, very basic. As a family with young children we required a room to sleep all. The beds were in the form of bunks, which the children enjoyed. The location of the hostel / hotel is on the railway platform, so it is ideal as a stop off, if en- route to other areas of Norway. The staff were helpful and the breakfast was a bonus. The beds were adequate for one nights stay , I dont think I would of liked to have slept on a bunk bed for longer.
Everyone was exceedingly helpful. Hans--a friend of the hostel--showed me around Lillehammer, for example, just to be friendly.
Access to the kitchen The room was very small för three persons
Location was good. And the breakfast was as good as the one in a hotel It was difficult to find because We did not know it was actually at the station!!!
Cheap, clean, comfortable, ideally situated, good breakfast None, really. Perhaps some noise from the bus terminal outside, but not too bad
Nice location in a beautiful place in Norway. For some the spa-facilities would be nice, but I didn't use those. The rooms were not clean (stains on wall). We stayed two nights, but the room was not cleaned from one day to the other. If you bring kids and stays in weekends, demand a room facing away from the mainstreet. The disco and mad driving from locals will keep you awake. When we stayed there, the parking space were closed. It's possible to find cheap parking places near the hotel, but we were informed of this in the reception, not on the webpage, so we ended up staying at the expensive place. If you stay there: Ask for the cheap places before you park. And by the way: Some "cool designer" has decided that the drain in the bathroom is placed in the middle of the floor, with the result that all the water from the shower flows away and on floor.
front office staff very helpful, expedient wireless did not work from my room location, parking is a bit tricky to understand around hotel.
Gjorvik is a nice place to stay for a few days, rather close to Lillehammer, The hotel staff was unpleasant, the room was small and not really clean. The website advertised a nice view on the lake, but we found that they were building an new annex to the hotel in front of the lake. As a result, we got no view, but enjoyed the melodious noise of building works as from 7 a.m. The hotel seems to be proud of its very modern design. True indeed, but then nothing is really practical: you end up looking desesperately for a place in the room for your suitecase, you bump your head on the very strangely placed bedside lamp every time you get up from your bed, the washbasin has a very nice and original shape, but then you get all the water on your feet if your try to use it. We booked for two night, and left after only one.
A lot of cups and plates in the restaurant were quite dirty.. a dishwasher problem or.. structural?
Nice little apartment with all we needed in it. Friendly helpful staff. Bathroom is tiny and you need to sit on the loo sideways to accommodate your knees!
Nice hostel with friendly staff and very good food.
I stayed here with my wife. The facility did not fit us. This facility is just beside a well equipped water sports garden. If you love water sports, it will be lovely place to stay.
Nice surroundings. Near city centre (10-15 min walk). Beautiful view from veranda. Good common 'living room'. Good breakfast. WC positioned so it was hard to sit down. More legroom would have been appreciated. Bad coffee for breakfast - I need it freshly made.
Extremely helpful and nice staff.Modern but quite small room. Comfortable bed. No dinner available in the evening, 20.30, only tea and sandwich.
The hostel was extremely clean...we were in a hut but breakfast in the main building exhibited the same extreme cleanliness. Location was pleasant. For the price we paid for 1 night, we were shocked that this was really a hostel rather than a hotel. We had stayed in several different 4 star hotels in Norway for a lot less than this hostel charged. We all slept in bunk beds (which I expected from the photos) but I was expecting to be in the main building rather than a hut. We had to strip the bedding and mop the wetroom before we checked out. We were only there 1 night. Maybe if you rented the hut for a week, cleaning up would be more appropriate as it had a kitchen and people probably self cater...but we were after a 1 night hotel stop.
Walked in under 1/2 hour up to the hostel from the train/bus station. Staff very helpful and thoughtful. Tastefully redecorated rooms throughout, and everything looked very clean and new - fresh red roses in the lobby. Quiet atmosphere. I cooked dinner for myself in the charming and sunny kitchen for guests. Excellent breakfast with fresh- baked bread, and I could eat on the sunny terrace overlooking the recreation park, and made lunch sandwiches for an extra 50 nok. The Norwegian Cross Country ski team is happily based here for their training each autumn, and that says it all for me! - I would definitely choose this hostel over a hotel any day.
