8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is exceptional - wide choice with ALL ingredients sourced with diligence and attention to detail. The wholemeal bread loaf and savory scones, baked on site very morning, are highly recommended but everything on the breakfast menu is fantastic.
Cons: Lets face it - the decor will not be to everybody's taste but, after the initial shock, and defiantly after your first meal, the colour scheme will fade into the background. Anyway, your attention will focus on the vista from the house.

Pros: I loved the amazing views , the sumptuous furnishings, the breakfast which was AMAZING, best breakfast selection I have ever had. Jon was extremely kind and welcoming as a host Nothing was too much trouble for him. Property was extremely clean and so innovative with the wonderful themed rooms. Looking forward to going back soon and trying another fabulous themed suite.
Cons: Having to leave!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best breakfast I have ever had in a B&B! Jon and Alex have curated an unbelievable breakfast menu. They upgraded us from a standard room to a suite upon arrival which just added to the already excellent service. All the rooms are so unique and finished to such a high standard. I would recommend Ferndale to anyone who is considering a trip to Achill.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Ferndale was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. Although our initial plan was to stay only one night, we quickly realized we’d come upon something special and decided to stay another night. Jon and Alex are gracious, caring hosts who make their guests feel valued and pampered. The themed rooms reflect Jon’s passion for history and interior design, showing great attention to detail with respect to both décor and comfort. We stayed in the Arabian Nights room, which combines thematic details like beautiful Moroccan-style lamps and furnishings with modern conveniences like super-comfortable beds and a heated towel rack (these are just a few examples). In addition to the room, guests have full access to the dining and common areas, which offer spectacular views and comfortable places to read or relax. Then there are the breakfasts… without question, these were the best breakfasts we had in our travels. Jon and Alex offer a varied menu, with all items prepared fresh to order. Alex’s homemade bread is absolutely delicious, as was everything else we ordered. If unique, comfortable accommodations and fabulous food were not enough, we also thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Jon and Alex. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and it was great fun to hear some of the story behind the B&B and their decorating approach. Finally, Jon was an invaluable resource for us as we planned the rest of our time in Ireland. He offered excellent suggestions that allowed us to make the most of our time and see sights we otherwise might have missed. We highly recommend Ferndale and would definitely stay there again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: In a word fabulous! Rooms are all individually themed and luxuriously decorated. Jon is so welcoming and offered us a choice of rooms, we opted for the Chinese room. Bed was very comfortable, room cosy and warm, excellent bathroom with steam shower. Great location within walking distance of restaurants & pubs. The breakfast menu is extensive and varied, very different to most B&B's but still included the full Irish! (and everything is cooked to order). Delicious and plenty of it, Jon and Alex couldn't feed you enough and you get the feeling that nothing is too much trouble for them. If your visiting Achill you must stay here!

5.8 Okay
Pros: The location
Cons: The staff were quite rude
4.5 Okay
Pros: The matress was super hard and gave me a he's do I couldn't sleep. My friend found the matress ok so depending on person. Breakfast stated full Irish but got no beans, no mushrooms, no egg. Shocked. Irish Breakfast but not a full Irish Breakfast that is well known. Beautiful location. Wanted a drink but could only have a drink the the small hallway next to the door exit, very strange so lacked that welcome feel. We were only allows to sit inside if eating. I never experienced that in a hotel or guesthouse. The shower was more like a mist. They out on heating when we asked so that was good. The place was clean which is always important. Fab location close to everything but lacked that Irish welcome and charm of a drink or beverage in a cosy reception rather than doorway. We saw the humour in it all.
Cons: Mattress Breakfast short of expectation No where decent to chat and have a drink unless you ordered food. There was a reception upstairs but that felt odd like a waiting room in a dentist office, not at all what to expect from a guesthouse or hotel. We didn't expect luxury but we did expect welcome atmosphere and it didn't deliver. Achill was stunning though and weather was glorious

Pros: Mickey's bar was a really nice place to check in, it was very homely. I found the bed very comfortable and it was a really peaceful location. The living room with the open fire was so nice, I imagine it'd be a good place to hang out on a rainy day.
Cons: Honestly, I thought 80 euro per night was a lot for a bed with no breakfast facilities at all. It was made a bit worse when we could clearly see that facilities for serving breakfast were available, but just there was none on offer. Considering the remoteness of Achill, we thought breakfast should definitely be included in that price. It was strange to check out with no staff around whatsoever. We didn't know where to leave our room keys. And, unfortunately, something wasn't working with the hot water. Meaning that there wasn't hot water available for showering. There wasn't anyone we could report this to. To be honest, I wouldn't rush back here.
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice comfortatable room with beautiful view.
Cons: listing advised bar food served in the Smmer season. We visited in August and there was no breakfast available and no bar food being served either - with little else open in the area we did not manage to get breakfast in the area and had crips for dinner ;0( Just a shame is all. room was lovely and comfortable - just disappointed we could not get any food when the listing advised that it was available.

7.5 Good
Pros: The staff were most hospitable which made us feel right at home. We were particularly impressed with the generosity shown to us when one of our party had to dry some clothes. We were kindly offered to use the dryer at no extra charge. This kind of generosity was something we experienced time and again throughout Ireland.
Cons: The room was terribly damp. A dehumidifier is very much needed. It was difficult to take a shower as the shower curtain was so flimsy that you had to fight with it to keep from flooding the bathroom. On the night we arrived, we had dinner in an exceptionally large bar area. Unfortunately the place was stifling hot which made things very unpleasant.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved how each of the rooms where differently themed. The food was excellent value for money and very tasty. The view from the front is unbelievable.
Cons: The bath in our room was stained with something blue. The other guests where very loud in the hallway, the walls are quite thin.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, friendly staff. Great food local beer. Space to feel at home in
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location, very friendly staff, good food, nice breakfast. We had a room at the back of the lodge which was directly next to the restaurant and kitchen. Lots of noise on evenings with live music (very nice music though), but mainly bad smells from the kitchen. We had to sleep with the windows open, as the room was too humid and cramped.
Cons: The room's feng shui could be much better, but maybe a room next to the restaurant and kitchen isn't the best option.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Staff were lovely in particular the manager. Dinner very good.
Cons: The bedrooms needed pillows. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Breakfast was limited and long wait to replenish food. . Coffee cold from a thermos. Would be nice to get a hot americano.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great views, great food, great atmosphere.
Cons: Thin walls but they warned us in advance so expected it.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: They lost all the keys to my room and decided to let me pay fully in advance before informing me of the issue, that's really unfair. I also found some weed in a drawer, together with a half smoked joint, rolling papers and some medications in a drawer. Let aside the lack of cleaning and the fact my 4yo son could have find that stuff before me, I assume some people on drugs had the keys to our room and informed the manager. They did nothing, didn't even apologize or try to amend in any way.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was good, lots of variety and the staff were friendly.
Cons: All perfect!
4.6 Okay
Pros: I liked the location.
Cons: I didn't like how un-kept the property looked with old tired furniture. I didn't like the dark corridors with insufficient lighting. I didn't like the breakfast it was one of the worst I have ever experienced. I didn't like how the property was listed as Bar with Beachfront because the bar was closed as was the restaurant and it overlooked a lake and not a beach. I didn't like that the pictures shown online were not a true reflection of the property. I didn't like that the manager/staff were not very helpful. I didn't like our room because it lacked the basic items i.e mirror, wardrobe, radio or TV. I didn't like the bathroom as there was nowhere to set down toiletries or a hook to hang a towel. I didn't like the rickety deck table and chairs in our room that was to substitute a lounge area. I didn't like the stained bed covers on the beds.

3.3 Mediocre

Pros: Great location to town and great hearty Irish breakfast! The staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you.
Cons: Nothing!
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff bent over backwards to help us with little details.
Cons: It has the feel of a “hotel of a different era” on its last legs: the owners are trying heroically to keep it going, but everything is so old and dilapidated.
