My husband I loved our 15 day stay at the Pelicanos Grand!! We made so many new friends on our stay which we are still in contact with to date. Vacationed 1 year ago...and cant wait to return!! The staff couldnt have been any more helpful friendly the food was good...not excellent but very good for the money. A short cab or bus ride to the city was nice to enable us to enjoy some of the local restarurants and sites! This hotel is on a smaller scale which we enjoyed...no golf cart or mini bus rides to get around the property!
Beds were extremely comfy. Veranda off my room was very large and great to sit on. \nI appreciated the internet room and gym.\nPools were fine. \nThere was a 'park' between their two building that was pretty and peaceful. At night they had good free entertainment. One night there was a circus with excellent juggling, acrobatics, unicycling, tightrope walking, etc.\nI only ate there once since I wanted to go out and experience many restaurants in the area. The food I ate was good/average.\nStaff was very professional, helpful, and above average.\nI appreciated the apples at the front desk. Made me feel like home.\nI would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly.
For 2 mid-20 year olds this place was great! We went into it reading some mixed reviews but in the end it was about what we expected for a 3-4 star hotel. The food was just fine, breakfast is the best, but it did get old as it's pretty much the same every day. the pool area was great but the service was contingent upon tipping and make sure you stay in the GRAND section (section 2) as it is worth the extra money that you spend! the club side isn't oceanfront and doesn't have balconies and i didn't hear a single good thing about it...and armed guards at the doors of the club section is never a good sign! the beach is bad but you can swim and kayak in the ocean right by the hotel and it's very nice. the rooms are your standard hotel rooms but no screen doors on the balconies which allowed a lot of bugs to come in. the safe was nice to have although not secured to a permanent foundation and the water pressure wasn't great but the TV had great stations and english options and the air conditioner was a life saver. the grounds are well kept and there is daily pool side entertainmet. Sergio is a great time but i do wish the daily activites would have been switched up a little. The stores across the street from the hotel were godo for getting h2o and snacks for the room! While you're there, do the Canopy Tour and make sure you go to the taco stand across the street on the main road. it has a red canopy and wooden stools around it and their quesadillas and tacos are SO GOOD and they are cheap!
The facility are very good is close to Downtown by bus only around 4 pesos (.50) dollar. The all inclusive has 2 section. One is grand which we found out is was the best, but it was too late. We want to check-in at the other Section the Grand. That will be a cost of $50 more per day/per person. To me too expensive. The Club Section where we stayed to me is was for the local. All the guests there were local. That is why the food quality for all-inclusive is very limited. In this Club section you cannot use the Gym and you cannot eat at the other section. When you pay for all-inclusive you don't want be limited. That what happened to us. For the price we paid for all inclusive; the food quality , presentation and variety were not the great. It you like to stay in the resort do not stay at the Club section, go to the Grand Section.
If you don't mind employees coming into your room at any timne of the day or night then you might feel at home. When you complain at the front desk they act like you are crazy. Us???? We wopuldn't do that??? Even had employees taking pictures of us. That adjacent room is also where they would ebter un-announced. Make sure your valuables are in the safe! Get use to eating the same food every meal as they sure don't dispose of left overs. You just get them in the next meal even if it means mixing it in with other food. Staff is very rude and they don't keep the locals out of the resort. They are right on the site trying to srll you anything???? Not clean at all. If you are on a budget and don't have too many valuables then it's a way to go. But I would not recommend it to even my enemies! The newer section is the worst. Stay somewhere else. It will save you the vacation from hell!
All-inclusive my butt. You have to sit through a very pushy and irritateing time share to be able to eat at all the resturants or pay $70 a day extra. This is not stated in the ad. The fine dining resturants needed reservations way in advance otherwise they were 'full' but had plenty of open tables when we were there. Food at the buffets was the same everyday. After eating at a few resturants in town we vowed not to go all-inclusive again. Beds were not great and the room smelled of mildew until we aired it out a few days. Staff was nice and the town was great. We felt comfortable taking a cab anywhere and walking around at night. \nThe trip was fun overall. Like I said the time share folks and the different levels of all-inclusiveness were the biggest drags.
From the moment we arrived the staff was amazing! While waiting at the front desk to check in we were offered pina colada's, got offered a room of our choice and were escourted (bags in tow) to our room. The room was basic, big bed, night stands separate bathroom and sink, very basic but for the cost i could see the value in what we got. The bathroom is small the tub/shower was a half tub but still very comfortable. The all inclusive made it worth the while the food was pretty good, we were given passes to their Italian restaurant on the other side fo the propery no extra charge and we had nightly entertainment on the property at no charge from karaoke, to Lantin Nights dancing to a variety show! A lot of fun for the amount of money we paid. The resort also offers a lot of activities both for family and individual from jet skiing to parasailing to other tours they offer, and reasonably priced (in US currently from 30-50 dollars per person). It is located between the airport and the romantic zone of downtown Puerto Vallarta so be prepared for a walk or short bus or cab ride. Would definitely stay again but upgrade to the club or members section of the resort! Would be well worth the extra money. Go stay and have a wonderful time!
I spent 10 days there, the hotel staff was friendly and accomadating. Rooms were clean we were up on the 2nd floor with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The infinity pool was fantastic. The hot tubs were not working very well and were not that clean. They had an internet room where one can check email and send email but who needs a computer that much when you are vacationing? I would get the all inclusive if and when I go again. Food at the hotel was good.
I really enjoyed my stay here. I would definately come back and reccomend this to a friend. The staff, service and at home feeling were all very good.
Tons of free booze. nice beach. loved it. close to town.
My husband and I stayed here for our 7th Ann in the 'Grand Section'. The hotel was unable to 'do anything special'- such as a bottle in the room etc. (I was willing to pay). The sheets were not changed but once in the 5 days we were there. Good luck getting to the swim up bar- you may have to fight with children to get a seat. The adult pool was disgusting- it was obvious it had not been cleaned. The service at the buffets was wonderful (be ready to specify a LARGE glass of water if you want one or else you will get a juice glass size), very attentive HERE. However, any other staff being anywhere other than at a desk - forget it. There were no servers in the Adult Area, the bar was dismantled and left there or anywhere else. The food was less that good at the main buffet in the Grand Section. There was 'pasta' or at least I believe it was suppose have been pasta. I was disappointed not to see any Mexican cuisine- except for a small selection in the regular section. Beware of Guest Services- they are timeshare hawkers. Also ONE MUST reserve 24 hrs in advance a space any of the restraunts except for the buffets, even though they may only sit 10 tables over a night. Don't waste your money on the Grand room- the bar will only serve the stock alcohol UNLESS you specify. The use of the fitness room was not worth the extra money. THERE WAS NO MINI BAR- and ONLY 2 pint bottles of water. ANYMORE cost- despite being ALL INCLUSIVE GRAND. Yeah we got a great deal but was highly disappointed and would take a lot to get me back.
We had our 1st family vacation @ the Plaza Pelicanos. \nWe stayed in section 2. The staff was AWSOME from the concierge, to the gentleman who checked us in to the guy that helped us plan our tours. Every morning my 6 year old daughter was greated by name and with a nice smile from the staff. I did not care to much for the mix drinks they made at the bar, but since it was an all inclusive I tried them all until I did find one they did make good. The pool was awsome. I loved sitting there with my drink and listen to the ocean and watch the sunset. The food was goos in section 2, however I did not care for the resturaunt in section 1. The food was just OK and it was very noisey. I loved the activitivies and shows that were put on every night.\nI would definatley take my family there for another vacation! The people at this hotel made my stay very very enjoyable.
This resort was a revelation. I booked based purely on online recommendations and as usual they were not wrong. We did the 'all inclusive' which paid off because the on site restaurants are excellent (especially the French restaurant). Overall service was the best I've ever experienced - and that includes Aman and Four Seasons properties. The spa is also highly recommended.
I took my special person with me and had planed to propose to her on this 3 day trip. The hotel ,the grounds and the restaurants were exceptional. Clean, beautiful and delicious . The only problem was that there were too many kids ( 12 and under) around. Don't get me wrong ,I like kids but I thought this was an all adult resort. staff was very very friendly and kind and gracious. Top of the line liquor.
Beautiful resort, very private, with excellent service, and great food. You get the feeling of being pamoered the whole time you are there. The staff is there to make sure you have everything you need to relax and enjoy. Great restaurant choices, as well as a wonderful buffet by the beach.
This is a superb facility. Spacious, beautifully decorated rooms, lobby, all other facilities. The staff was the best we ever experienced. The service was superb! The only thing which would not make this a five-star facility was the food. It would rate a very good, but not an excellent. A couple of tips for getting to the facility: Tukari will try to provide you, through the travel website, with limo service from and to the airport. Taxis are plentiful and cheaper, plus you won't have to try to coordinate your return with them. There are plenty of taxis at the hotel. Inside the airport is a circus with all the people trying to sell you something, time-shares, tours, whatever. Ignore all of them. Go outside and just get a taxi. But ask the driver first what the price will be.
If your well-being and health are a priority for having a great time while in Mexico, this is the place for you. I ate and drank everything I wanted without getting sick. From what I was told, even the tap water in the hotel rooms are purified - and I believe them, as I accidentally brushed my teeth with it once. The staff is courteous and helpful, and treat you like a million bucks. The food is wonderful - especially the buffet overlooking the water. The grounds are pristine, the spa is fabulous, and the pool is fantastic. But my favorite part of this hotel is the open lobby: a huge thatched vaulted ceiling, with beautiful plants and trees and breezes. This hotel isn't the cheapest place to stay, but is worth EVERY penny. Will definitely stay there again.
This resort is one of a kind. We have recently traveled to Hawaii and Mexico and I thought I was going to dislike Mexico. After our stay at the Grand Velas, my mind was changed quickly. This resort is stunning and clean. The staff became our friends and waited on as if we were royalty. Our room was luxurious with a fabulous view of the ocean. The pool was beautiful and always clean...with restaurants and bars at your fingertip. Often we would not make it inside to eat because our poolside waiter Miguel was amazing and we had no need to ever leave our lounge chairs....except to take our delicious drinks into the pool for a dip and/or partake in a water aerobics class. The food in all of the restaurants was divine. I even enjoyed sushi by the pool one day for lunch. We never left the resort because we were there for sun and relaxation. The room service is like no other. They bring in your own table and either put it on your balcony or in your room and we would always do that for breakfast. We were in HEAVEN. I cant wait to go back again. At night after eating, we would sit in the open airy entrance of the resort and have cocktails and listen to music. The bar and entertainment was a lot of fun, we also danced. Like I said before, do not overlook Mexico but specifically this resort. We stayed in the Mayan Riviera a couple years ago and that hotel did not even come close to this one. 5 Star all the WAY!
Our family of 7 and a baby were here for a week and did not want to go home. The views beautiful, the food very good and the service wonderful. For the prices they should have free internet in the rooms, but they do have a business center. Evening entertainment wouldve been nice, there was none.
This was our second stay at Gran Velas and we loved it again. The grounds are beautiful, the heated infinity pool with swim up bar is amazing at sunset. The staff are funny, courteous and prompt. Service at the pool, beach or anywhere! Great food (we ate at all 3 restaurants), not stingy on drinks or only offering bottom shelf liquor, super friendly staff, great rooms--you even get a massage when you check in instead of standing in line!
We loved our stay at the Grand Velas and plan to go back there again. The property is so clean and elegant and it sits on a beautiful beach that you can see from almost any angle in the hotel. As an all-inclusive resort, you have your choice of four or five restaurants from Italian, French, Mexican and American. The pool was sublime -- but you need to reserve your lounge chairs early in the morning. The food was surprisingly good and the wait staff friendly. The concierge was not as helpful as we would have liked - we wanted to dine one night outside of the hotel and had to research our own restaurants and it took the concierge forever to make a reservation for us. That is why we gave the staff four stars instead of five. Overall it was a beautiful, quiet and elegant hotel -- only 20 minutes from Puerto Vallarta and from other quaint towns in the hills.
I just got back from here and reality is NO FUN! Grand Velas is an amazing resort. The rooms are huge. I think our (basic) room was larger than the first house I rented. The staff is friendly and many speak very good English. The buffet is top notch, and the reservations restaurants are truly five-star. I hear other people's complaints about no free internet, but, I also need to ask - should you bother with the internet here? Unplug, darnit! There is really no better place to unplug! I am dying to go back! (full disc - I rated it excellent for value, but, this was a work-perk trip that I did not pay for, so, what do I know about value?)
Mellow atmosphere, very attentive staff, nice layout, good food, ocean location, entertainment, nice room. Cnn tv reception was poor or unavailable- No music downtime (or mellow music) by poolside to relax, think, snooze, or read in relative peace. Lobby computers did not interface well with aol.com. No business center available for printers to make copies---etc.
Very comfortable and relaxing vacation resort. We had teenagers and it was great knowing they were safe and there was always activities going on. The staff works hard to keep everyone accomodated.
The hotel did not honor the booking.com price quoted and, in fact, threw in significant costs per person for the "all-inclusive" plan (which is the only plan available)... They claimed the price was for two adults and two children under 6 which they claim are free.?. Our booking clearly said 6 persons yet they charged us an additional $39-108 per person, per day depending on age.
We took advantage of the free kayaks and paddle boards. The guy working there was excellent. The bartenders and waiters were good but a few more waiters would have been perfect. The buffets and menu restaurant food was good for the most part. There was no plug in at the computer desk. They broughtr 2 prong extension cord for a 3 prong plug which was useless.
Food was exceptional for all- inclusive. Resort is run- down, and needs a lot of updating.
excellent beach and access to dining at sister property endless vendors bother you on the beach and guest hogging the pool chairs
When this place isn't under construction, it will be great again. Good food. Good entertainment. Wonderful staff. They are currently doing a big overhaul on the adults only side. Loud construction and only one restaurant for adults only.
We had been traveling the 3 weeks before we arrived and appreciated the peace and quiet - very relaxing No complaints
We loved the pool! The beach was beautiful and our suite was AMAZING. Beautiful views, friendly front desk, and overall friendly staff. A few older patrons did get a little irritated with our 3 year old playing in the pool. Note that this is a family resort and there will be kids playing in the pool, especially in the children's pool. They state that you can't bring your own food and beverage to the pool and the beach, but service was a little slow. We brought ours any way, as you can't expect kids not to have snacks.
Our family had a really FANTASTIC 7 day visit recently. We had everybody from a toddler to grandmas and grandpas in our group. We could not have asked for a better experience. The weather, ocean, accommodations, service, food and entertainment were just top notch! The pool was perfect for the 2 year old, as well as the rest of us, and the beach was perfect! The only possible negative (and not really too much of an issue) is all the time share sales activities.
Great service, outstanding food, beautiful resort. Many other guests were raving too. Best beachfront hotel for the money we've ever stayed in. Will definitely be back.
The beach was nice. The Italian Restaurant was adults only. We ate there all 3 nights of our stay. The staff was great and the resort very clean, as we have mostly found to be true in Mexico. We were there celebrating our 35th anniversary. This was not the place for a tranquil vacation. There were lots of children and families. They bused in people on Saturday, and picked them up on Sunday. The resort was very crowded, particularly the pool. The food was mostly buffets. The snack bar served a greasy hamburger that smelled great and tasted even better.
The location is right on the beach and provides great views and ambiance. The hotel feels squished in between other hotels and buildings. The surrounding area is not pleasant to walk around, except for the beach. The hotel feels clean but then things will start to fail, like the toilet didn't work and lights didn't work in our room. The language barrier is obviously difficult to overcome when you need repairs like this, but I felt like the maintenance staff was irresponsible and would just disappear if they didn't know how to fix the problem. By far the most disappointing thing was the food. For an all inclusive, the food was intolerable. We only at the buffet and then the Mexican restaraunt and found both to be some of the worst food we have ever had. We paid more than we should for a last minute NYE trip but I feel totally ripped off.
