10.0 Excellent
Pros: delightful hosts, it was like staying with family. Beautiful spacious room, with a large separate bathroom. Everything you could want, including some yummy dutch treats. Great KS Bed, and great location
Cons: the stairs to the room were very steep. while this did not bother us, if you have mobility issues, you would struggle. But I honestly couldn't fault the property, it was one of the best we've stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully decorated, great location and welcoming host. Very spacious room and nice touches like complimentary snacks and drinks as well as a comprehensive list of recommendations made by Sandra the owner!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: How warm and full of details the room and bathroom were. The delicious breakfast. The hosts: very helpful and extremely nice!
Cons: The very high staircase to access the room - a bit annoying but the host helped us with our bags.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - cozy room - very nice + friendly + helpful staff/owner - very good breakfast - very clean and well equipped bathroom
Cons: - maybe a bigger shower towel would be good - WLAN is not so good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is perfect to relax, breakfast is incredible. Sandra is super kind.
Cons: No complaints at all. Everything was better than expected.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: decor and very beautiful, friendliness in the service, impeccable cleanliness. Breakfast typical, perfect. we felt at home.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My PA was charged with the task of finding me a value-for-money bed and breakfast within walking distance of Driestar University. I had previously stayed at a E-Tap motel type establishment on the outskirts of Gouda. I was expecting something similar. My expectations were exceeded in every way. I loved the quaint location tucked away down a side street from the central square and alongside a typical Dutch canal. The hosts were extremely welcoming and relational. I enjoyed my conversation on arrival and over breakfast in the morning. The house had been beautifully restored and the room I stayed in was also beautifully restored in its elegance and charm. The bathroom however, was modern, spotlessly clean and well appointed. I would definitely come back here again, and plan to do so later in the year, but this time with my wife.
Cons: I could fault anything about my stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostess and host were absolutely wonderful. Among the best we have ever had in our travels over the last 60 years.
Cons: Steep stairs are a challenge but worth the effort for a great room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Just about everything!
Cons: The sofa was a bit uncomfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional B&B. 'The Room Next Door' is above the owner's storeroom/diy workshop (good for bike parking) separated from the main house by a tiny courtyard and is accessed by a very steep traditional Dutch staircase with it's own front door. The room was more like a small suite, impeccably fitted out in the best possible traditional style with everything one could wish for. In Sandra one could not wish for a more helpful and friendly host. Breakfast in her kitchen was plentiful and excellent. Her restaurant recommendations were good too.
Cons: It could not be faulted.

Pros: The owner is always taking care about you. He is very nice and has always some small details that give the place an extra.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When we arrived Hans was there to greet us. Hans helped us carry our luggage upstairs to the apartment. The apartment is the upstairs part of Hans house and it contains everything you might need! The booking includes breakfast and Hans is very accommodating and ensures that you have the food you like. We concentrated our stay in the local area and Hans was able to tell us the best places to go walking, boat trips, where to eat. All in all we cannot find fault with anything so we would recommend a stay at the B&B Fam.Elzinga.

Pros: Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Room was beautiful, bathroom was impeccable, very comfortable bed, delicious breakfast, hotel is very elegant with a great restaurant.
Cons: Next to the hotel there's a cafe, they play music, it's not loud but you can hear it (in rooms on that side of the hotel) when you go to sleep (and its quiet in the room). However, earbuds were laid out on the bed when we came in, so a solution was already presented.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing. It's a magic secret cottage located in one of Gouda's secret little backyard gardens. You're in a small dutch town walking along a canal, go through a door and suddenly you find yourself in a beautiful garden with a nice little private cottage. The kitchen/bathroom are downstairs along with a nice little area to drink your coffee and eat your fresh stroopwafel from the morning's market. Couldn't ask for a better location or better accommodations.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was truly outstanding. The cottage is located in a courtyard behind the owner’s house, and contains a kitchenette and bathroom on the ground floor, with a spacious bedroom upstairs. The location is excellent, however the best thing about it are the people who run it, who went above and beyond to make sure that my stay in Gouda was perfect, from recommending a place to get dinner, to letting me keep my baggage in the shed all day, even after I’d checked out so that I could explore the city unencumbered. I’ll definitely be back!
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Nice surroundings and good location
Cons: No breakfast offered
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It is very nice place to stay with kind hosts. Overall apartment was nice, clean and spacious. Quite nice playground with trampoline + horses, goats, dog and cat will help to entertain kids. Parking was very close to apartment so we didnt need to carry luggage far away. What was very nice surprise for us was city of Boskoop with its canals, houses and gardens. We really enjoyed walking there in the evening. Tip: when you walk on the path that continues from the street of Middelburgseweg you will come to Stichting Sortimentstuin "Harry van de Laar" - they offer all kind of plants and they present it in a form of "botanical garden" you can access any time, if you like flowers you will enjoy"
Cons: Some equipment is a bit dated and not in 100% condition - especially bikes, go-carts, which was pity. Also our fridge took quite some time to cool down food when we arrived, but then it was ok (and hosts tried to help us immediately).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location, a short drive to the Haag, Delft and Gouda. Excellent facilities, especially for the kids. The playground is excellent and the kids enjoyed using the bikes and go carts, the children also loved the horse and goats. Highly recommended, I’d love to go back.

Pros: We had a great weekend. The hosts are very freindly and informative. There is a big playground right infront of house nr. 6, which was perfect for the kids. Freindly farm animals, grass to sit outside in a nice weather and some Katcars for the kids. The house itself was very cosy and the location is great. Just a short drive to great locations. We'll definatly come again!
Cons: Nothing
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: WARNING!!!!! Not a place for female guests or children! INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR BY MALE HOST. Male host knocked on apt door and immediately entered without permission. Another time arrived after 9 pm to deliver bill when we were in our pajamas. FRIGHTENING GUEST. Neighbor was a man who walked around outside shirtless all the time. At times leered at us into our apartment - frightening! INADEQUATE PRIVACY - Two of 4 living room drapes did not close MALE HOST HOSTILE & RUDE. Room instructions for wifi inacurrate. When we finally saw the male host 6 hours after arriving we asked for help with the wifi connection. He said "it's in the book", very short and rude. We showed him what was in the book. He angrily penned in an inacurrate correction for the next guest. Later we asked where the garbage disposal was. He again rudely retorted: "It's in the book." NO STAFF OFFICE. We tried several times to knock on the door of the owner for normal lodging assistance, never an answer. Upon leaving the host could not be found so we had to leave the apt key in the unlocked apt. SURPRISE CHARGES. Host demanded 25 euro at end of stay for "municipal fees". We were also surprised a 400 euro damage deposit was required that is completely at the discretion of the male host. APARTMENT DEFICIENCIES. - outdoor furniture not useable, covered with poop - finishings are very cheap - no bathroom upstairs by 3 bedrooms. Very tight spiral staircase down. - one washer and dryer for too many guests, had to find local laundromat - 1 foot by 2 foot space to stand in bathroom - bathroom far too small - no place to put used towels, replacement towels not provided without asking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic place to feel the true nature, breath fully and enjoy the picturesque views! The place of the inspiring houses from the fairy-tail :) Heart-warming hospitality, very clean and warm place, very big kitchen with lots of dishes, fridge and dish-washing machine ready to use. Very gentle hosts that left valuable advices on how to get to Amsterdam easily and to spend less. It was incredibly nice to meet them in person, to have a pleasant talk! Very recommend this place to all travellers by car around - you will get the most wonderful Holland experience :)

Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: There were 5 of us but only one bathroom. The property could do with another one.
Pension Groeneweg - Gouda

9.2 Excellent (87 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very friendly people, special treatment (personal products were abundantly - and with a very wide variety - available).
Cons: Unfortunately they do not serve breakfast and the 'La Place' around the corner is only open as from 9am.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The warm hearted welcome of our host was the perfect start for our trip to Gouda! The room is quite small but very cozy and you have a spacious and very clean bathroom. I can definitely recommend the guesthouse!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent, close to everything. It was the perfect place to wander around a beautiful old city. The coffee, tea and cookies in our room were so appreciated. Our host did a load of laundry for us. The bathroom is large, private, and modern. We kept our rental bikes in the storage area that was offered. Our host told us to go to the railway station to rent bikes which was cheaper than where we had originally planned and suggested a great route around the lake.
Cons: The stairs are very steep. We were fine but it might be difficult for some. The weather was warm and humid so the room was a little warm but that was probably true of everywhere.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and came with plenty of free-of-charge tea and biscuits. Bathroom was quite big, with lots of shower products, toothpaste etc for guests to be used. Would stay there again.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly owner, he did everything he could to make the stay agreeable for us. Location is excellent, price as well. Nothing to complain
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is excellent and very close to the centre of Gouda. The room was pleasant and clean and I had the use of a large bathroom and shower to myself. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The stairs to the floor where room was located were a bit narrow and steep. However the host was very helpful in carrying my bags upstairs.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, about five minutes walking from Gouda's main square. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and even cleared out a shelf in their refrigerator for me to store groceries. It felt like a second home.
Cons: It would be nice if the radiator could stay on during the night for cold seasons. Other than that everything was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect for being in the old town of Gouda. . The on site staff were SUPER HELPFUL
Cons: This facility did not offer breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm welcome, beautiful property and decor, comfortable beds, spacious bathroom with lots of amenities, very clean. Helpful friendly service.
Cons: Can’t fault it. Like many Dutch houses, there are steep narrow stairs to get to the room but the host carried my bag up for me so this wasn’t a problem.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice location and friendly host.
Cons: This is not a pension, but someone who rents rooms in his home. There is no reception and the stairs for the room are pretty dangerous. There is not A/C. In the evening the owner was having a barbecue and the room smelled like that.

Pros: Facility is modern and great among sheep, canals, nature and birds - Extra large room open to fields and private. Excellent breakfast and helping owner to find local restaurants (Roma was good).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely building with great modern facilities. Large well equipped comfortable room. Safe storage for bicycles.
Cons: When I booked through Booking.com the room rate include breakfast. As soon as I booked I received an email from the owner direct stating breakfast was not included and cost approx €12 each, unfortunately the booking was non refundable or I would have cancelled immediately. The accommodation is also about 3km out of town so we had to cycle back into town for food. In hindsight I would have booked the Best Western in town for €5 more each but included breakfast. There was also a 2% charge for credit card payment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The quiet, however the location was very close to the office and local restaurants etc. The room was superb - spacious, warm and had everything I needed. It was also not generic, so it felt very 'Dutch' and was very comfortable and beautiful (a converted barn, and very well converted). Such a beautiful place to stay, work and relax.
Cons: I cannot think of one thing I would change.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Large , spacious rooms. Shower and bath both excellent , with endless hot water .Bath toiletries , towels and flannels all provided. Help yourself tea/coffee. Breakfast excellent. Pros: The attentive hosts The facilities in the apartment Its central location in the town The environment around the property had a village street feel about it. The town itself was attractive and interesting and a good base for exploring the cities around it.

Pros: The flat couldn't be more central. The owner was very nice and flexible in time for a meet up due to a delay while traveling. thanks! :) Everyone of the group felt comfortable and had a very nice time! The only think you have to be care of are the dutch flight of stairs, because you have to get used to it at first ;)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time in the terrific appartement in the city center. A spacious and modern appartement, with a great kitchen and fantastic roofterrace. Check-in and out was very smooth, and Bas verified from time to time whether everything was alright. We got a great bottle of wine at check-in, and late check-out!
Cons: Next time we stay longer, there is a lot more to discover in and around Gouda
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The apartment is perfectly located in the historic centre of Gouda, just a few meters from the main square. It is beautiful, well-furnished and very clean. We have everything we needed. The apartment is large - separate kitchen, dining room, living room, 3 bedrooms and 2 terraces. We were group of 6 people, but 8-9 would fit very comfortably. The landlord was very nice, communicative, and helpful. He recommended us parking place and also tips in Gouda and the surrounding area. We received the welcome pack which was very nice surprise (a bottle of vine, Holland biscuits, ..). We highly recommend this accommodation and we would like to come back.
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful apartment with high ceilings, steep narrow stairs, opposite the cheese shop and the bakery, modern furnishings and good atmosphere. The owner was kind and helpful.
Cons: Unfortunately there was a big party in a pub downstairs on our Saturday night (City apartment after all...). Sunday night was very quiet. We couldn’t figure out how the TV worked and some plates/cups were still dirty from former renters.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and spacious, with 3 bedrooms, 2 outdoor terraces, great location- & very helpful host who provided 2 brand new air coolers to assist with the unusually hot weather! We also really enjoyed Gouda - a lovely town

Pros: At breakfast time we had to sit at the bar since all tables were occupied by a bus of tourists. Very kindly the manager on duty offered us a free breakfast for compensation.
6.3 Good
Pros: Only a short distance from the city centre. Room was neat and comfortable.
Cons: Rooms were not finished at 14:30 even though we requested check-in at 13:30. No communication about it. We had to change for a wedding in the common toilet and leave our luggage in the locker till the evening. Would have been better to let guests know in advance or offer something complementary. Or hire more cleaners! Checkin at 14:00 is not extremely early!
9.5 Excellent

Pros: Very rustic place with great hosts. Located in a wonderfully peaceful part of Holland. We had a car which made it easy to get around to many sights in the area. Great for families. Lots of room and the home cooked food was awesome. The inn keepers were about as friendly and accommodating as anyone could be. Very knowledgeable people that know so much about Holland. Made for great coffee chats. I would stay again without hesitation.

(take a break from the big cities and enjoy this nature retreat!)

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location for our LAURA cycle event. Very good medical treatment when I fell off my bike.
Cons: Smoking by the front door
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The free entrance to the bird park, which was really very beautiful. Location of the hotel was 1hr from any atraction. The family room was big and clean.
Cons: It did not included breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I loved the fact we booked this last min after getting to the hotel we booked to tell us they have over booked. And within 15mins of booking we arrived and got a room straight away. Loved the sewing kit in the room and that we could have ordered food/drink up to the room.
Cons: The location was okay it was further away from a train station than we liked but due to the last minute plan it was perfect. The on site resturant was a little pricey for the food but food was okay when it came out.
6.3 Good
Pros: location, reach breakfast, clean facilities
Cons: very thick and hard pillow, close to the birds park so air was not fresh.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing to like about this place.
Cons: Absolutely gutted when I saw the room. It was old and shabby, like something from the 1970’s. 2 single beds pushed together which kept moving apart. 2 separate narrow duvets that weren’t even as wide as the single beds. Only one small pillow each. Only one working plug socket in the room. No socket for the kettle. Had to put the kettle on the floor next to the only available socket because the cable was so short. Only paper cups provided for making tea and coffee, no milk only sachets of powdered stuff that tasted awful. Hairdryer fixed to the wall in the bathroom but no electrical socket so couldn’t use it. No insect screens on the windows so we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. No fans available, no non slip mats for bathroom floor and shower either and staff very unhelpful. Small towels provided so couldn’t wrap them around yourself. Room not cleaned at all during our stay by housekeeping they only made up the beds. Grainy picture on the tiny TV. I’m used to premier inns, with comfy king sized beds, lots of pillows, decent sized towels, fans/air con, nonslip mats in the bathroom plenty of electrical sockets, a decent sized TV with a good picture. Real cups and milk and a kettle that has its own electrical socket and the rooms cleaned each day. This place was like a cheap and nasty B & B but at 5 star hotel prices. We will never go back it was awful.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beyond our expectations and excellent value for the money we paid, whilst The bird park was gorgeous ....
Cons: Whilst the town itself is pretty bland by Dutch standards don’t be put off from visiting, there is nothing to dislike
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant for dinner and breakfast were excellent
Cons: No issues
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and comfort and spacious rooms.
Cons: May be 13 eur for the breakfast was on expensive end. Had seen other hotels charging less or more or less same options.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious rooms, luxurious, great beds and we loved the free entry at the birdpark.
Cons: Our door couldn't be properly closed (room 109). Also the airconditioning in the room we had the other days (319 if i remember correctly) didn't work very well. There was only a small vent at one end of the room, while the beds were all the way in the other end, completely out of reach of the AC effect.

Pros: Wonderful place, great accommodation, highly recommended.
Cons: ++++
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, good value. We liked it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The channels and nature
4.3 Okay
Pros: We paid for an advertised restaurant breakfast. Instead we received a dry package in the mornings. When coffee was requested, it was met with resistance. The restaurant was being rebuilt, breakfast was poor, rooms cold with insufficient blankets, and we were still required to pay full-tariff. The accommodation has the potential of being a nice getaway, but I will not recommend it.
Cons: Breakfast, bedding.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful and the decor in good taste.
Cons: A big fuss was made about my wife joining me for a couple of nights and was charged for breakfast that was really skimpy. The bread was hard to eat and the cold cuts not enough for two. They also raised the price of the room when it came time for checkout. The staff also only gave us another set of towels on the last night and the room was not touched for 6 nights.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was especially done for me without any milk products and gluten. The surrounding is absolutely beautiful. I recommend the restaurant for diner or lunch!
Cons: -

Hotel Over de Brug - Haastrecht - Building
18
8.0 Excellent (505 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With free Wi-Fi internet throughout the hotel and free on-site parking, this small family hotel offers comfortable, budget accommodation for your stay in the Dutch countryside. The Hotel Over de Brug is a great base for hikers, cyclists and other tourists who like low budget hotels with a traditional atmosphere. The rooms of this hotel are located above a small restaurant. Here you can read the newspaper or watch some TV in the comfortable chairs near the fireplace. The outside terrace near the River IJssel and the local bridge offers a nice place to sip your favourite drink.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Once the facilities were open on Tuesday morning, after being closed to guests on the Monday, the hotel was nice and breakfast was good. Had we known the facilities, with the exception of bedrooms, we're closed on Mondays, we would not have chosen this hotel or location, particularly as the other bars/restaurants in Haastrecht were also closed (with the exception of 1, which was apparently fully booked).
Cons: We stayed on a Monday, unfortunately all the facilities in the hotel are closed to guests on a Monday, so we had no access to the bar or restaurant. We could literally only access our room. Haastrecht is a small place with limited bars and restaurants, most of which are also closed on a Monday. The only bar/restaurant open was apparently fully booked and we were told we would have to sit outside to have a drink, not very welcoming on a cold and rainy evening.
7.0 Good
Pros: It is in a strategic position to visit several small Dutch towns near to it. Breakfast is good.
Cons: Room very small and hot.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spot lovely friendly prople
Cons: Restaurant closed very early and no hairdryer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a lovely hotel right on the water edge. As we arrived a member of staff greeted us and showed us where to store our bicycles, she was very patient as we 6 in total and it took some time for us to unload our bags and move the bikes. The rooms were comfortable, clean and showers hot. We had a view of the canal which was a bonus. We had dinner in the restaurant down stairs and it was very nice, again the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really lovely and good value for money. A fabulous place and highly recommended.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location at the bridge. The hotel is designed with an eye for detail and we had a great night there.
Cons: The walls are quite thin and you can hear the neighbors.
7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, nice breakfast and good quality beds. The room was small but adequate.
Cons: Our stay was very warm (hot weather). Since there is no airconditioning we had to sleep with open windows. Since there was no insect-mesh on the windows and the hotel is next to water, the mosquitos had a ball. Also there was quite a bit of street noise.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast quality and quantity. Beds great, bathroom tight for space. Staff lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is wonderful, right by the canal and bridge. Beautiful. It’s a quiet town with friendly people. The staff checked me in at 10:30pm
Cons: The only minor issue was that the staff didn’t know about my reservation, yet fortunately they had one room left.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is superb. Village is great. Staff are excellent, and having a lift is a great benefit.
Cons: Bedroom was very small for more than a one day stay. If you need to split the bed into two single beds, the single bed iis very narrow.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, simpel but clean room.
Cons: Located in the center of town. Quite noisey during the weekend with people passing the hotel.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Thank you for accommodate us. We liked stay at this home. We could use the smart tv to watch hungarian movies during the evening. The bed was confy, even for my mum who has trouble with her back.
Cons: Maybe some more cups and a sharp knife would be useful in the kitchen.

Pros: Good home accommodation

Pros: All went good. Come there and save. Great host!

Pros: Friendly people Nice
6.8 Good
Pros: The house is kept very clean and tidy. Host's family and friends are friendly to guests and the host is always ready to help with any housing related issues. Feel free to cook your meals using host's cookware, then chunck it into the dishwasher. Host does also share coffee, olive oil, spices & herbs etc., but may ask for sharing in return.
Cons: My four-week stay experience reminds me of living-in landlord experience back in the UK in a family house as a lodger. Unfortunately, I didn't come along with the host on a personal level because we're very different people. He was persistently asking me to give my feedback while I was staying in the property (split bookings), but I normally never do that. My advice to the host would be to try to be more accommodating and open-minded to guests without any extra expectations. Making a house rule list in writing may help to avoid potential miscommunication and/or misunderstandings.
