Pros: We loved everything about the Paardenhof Guesthouse! Delphine was a wonderful host and made us truly feel at home. The farm is beautiful, with horses, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, and a goose, and the town of Esquelbecq is full of history.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Very quiet - and friendly and helpful host (Delphine). Great breakfast with boiled eggs from the farms own chickens.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostess was just wonderful and helpful and gave us a very warm welcome with a nice glass of wine. Excellent breakfast and exceptionally clean rooms. The renovated stables were just beautiful to stay in. Very comfortable bed and we will be returning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful breakfast that we arranged and paid for after we arrived. Our host, Delphine, bent over backwards to ensure we were comfortable and welcome, even providing us a glass of wine to welcome us and recommending a restaurant, and making reservations, for dinner. Esquelbecq is sort of off the beaten path, but the setting of the property is just lovely. The remodeled stable where we were housed is a dream - just delightful. I was sorry we were only passing through on our way to the Normandy beaches from Netherlands.
Cons: Everything was great. No detail had been overlooked. We were very comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Delphine was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The accommodations was very good, clean and relaxing.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent

Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful gem of a guest house in a wonderfully converted stable. The host, Delphine, was extremely warm and welcoming. We were offered complimentary cold drinks on arrival and made to feel immediately at home. The rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. The location was great for Dunkirk and within walking distance (2km) to the memorial for the Wormhoudt massacre.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is quite close to Calais, an ideal first / last night from a big trip (we were on motorbikes, which were garaged for the night). The accommodation is a converted stable (on an active farm), which has been done to a very high standard. Its all very clean, and has a "communal area" with a well appointed kitchen, eating / lounge area. The character of the original building has been carried over in a unique way, combining old & new styles throughout. The breakfast was the best we had on a full tour of France. Although evening meals were not available, a very pleasant stroll into the nearby village had plenty of choice. Definitely one to remember for our next trip.
Cons: Hard to think of anything. It really is ideal for an overnight or a few days. Its a perfect location for using as a base to explore Northern France.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely setting. Looked after very well and good breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is my second stay with Delphine, and I already have two more visits booked. Delphine is very welcoming and helpful from the outset, from the welcome drinks to recommending local eateries and reserving tables, we cannot praise her enough.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: A well located and welcoming hotel. Our room was excellent with plenty of space and character. We especially liked the residents lounge on the first floor. The evening meal was excellent. Breakfast was a bit unexciting but OK, the breakfast room is a little cramped.
Cons: Our room could have been better prepared as there was left over snack food in one of the wardrobes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the second floor bedroom, which was beautiful. Spacious, comfy, luxurious, it was everything we wanted. Breakfast had a good range of choices and everything was plentiful. We were made to feel welcome throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant one evening and on the coast in Belgium on the second night as it is so near.
Cons: English language satellite channels would have been nice.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Our room was delightful. Our hostess described it as the wedding room. We were able to use a side room which had tea/coffee facilities with cakes and biscuits. Our room very comfortable and spacious. We were also able to partake of a complementary glass of port. Huge bathroom complete with a dressing table and robes. Breakfast was served in a lovely salon overlooking the garden. Fresh bread and croissants are excellent and also available fruit, boiled eggs, cereal and preserves. The hotel has its own restaurant.
Cons: Nothing to add. Shame we didn't have longer to look around the town ramparts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I’ve been staying at Bienvenue Chez Nous for many years and it never disappoints. Jean Pierre is an excellent host who puts a great deal of effort into maintaining the homely and welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. It is always spotlessly clean and the rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished. Quirky doesn’t even come close.
Cons: There is nothing whatsoever to dislike here. From the port and bath robes in the rooms to the first class breakfast everything is first class.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very friendly. I originally booked 2 double bedrooms, when we got there we had been moved to the small house which was just perfect. We were travelling with 4month old twins ,a 3yr old and 3 adults . The house was very well equipped with everything you would need . Location was perfect the town was lovely.
Cons: There was nothing not to like...only that we only had 1 night and longer would have been good.

Delicious fresh pastry and bread for breakfast - simple but well done with lovely preserves. Rooms are very tastefully decorated and bed is super comfortable.

Pros: The property was immaculately maintained and very private. It is also extremely difficult to find the first time you go to the lodging. If you have difficulty, check with the florist out in front of the address. The address is not posted anywhere so you can see it.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet location, close to main roads from Calais, so excellent stop over. Very warm friendly welcome from owner and her little boy. Welcome cold bottle of water on arrival. Excellent breakfast with large choice of fresh foods. Large room.
Cons: It was very hot weather so would have preferred cotton/cool bedding and not warm brushed cotton sheets and pillow cases, despite being clean and very attractive.
7.0 Good
Pros: Parking was good. Owner pleasant enough.
Cons: We were charged 25 euros each for the evening meal, the main course of which consisted of one slice of ham {not gammon} tinned green beans and oven ready potato croquettes. WC has an extremely loud macerator. Shower is in the bedroom and could easily scold you as the hot supply is dangerously hot. I rarely complain, so this should be read in that context and with a wish to mitigate in my view, other possibly over rated complimentary reviews.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome was amazing as we arrived so late at night. Facilities were perfect for our needs.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good

Pros: An idyllic location in the french countryside, comfortable location and very welcoming hostess.
Cons: Nothing all was really as expected
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived late and hadn't informed the host of our arrival time but that was not a problem. We were greeted by the host who did not speak English and we don't speak French so it was a bit awkward at first but was soon overcome and we had a laugh with her. Room was very comfortable and even had tea and coffee making facilities which is very unusual in France but very much appreciated after a very long drive. Breakfast was good with a good selection of food and drinks and everything was nice and fresh. Will definitely go back as it is a very handy stopover either to or from the ferry at Calais.
Cons: nothing at all

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location in the middle of Dunkirk. The room was very clean and modern with a very good shower. Rooms seemed reasonably insulated from noise from other guests (apart from normal doors closing). It had a nice view over the marina. Bed was comfortable. Self service check in seemed to work.
Cons: There was no contact with any staff as reception/restaurant only opened in the morning and evening. If you lost your key, I am not sure what you wold have done.

Cons: Breakfast was average

If we are staying in Dunkerque again we would definitely stay here.

Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: We had traveled down from Holland to spend a couple of days in a quiet area (we had been to this area on previous occasions) before heading to the 'Tunnel' to return home. We were not disappointed. Friendly welcome, easy access to room and very enjoyable dinner made our day complete.
Cons: Our en-suite toilet (separate to shower room) could have benefited with a small corner hand basin. Not really a problem, but would have been nice.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Really convenient location. Studio allowed us to make our own cuppa in the morning. Garden was lovely
Cons: Final bill was bigger than expected which meant breakfast and drinks were quite expensive.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in a studio room separate from the hotel which was very comfortable. Had both evening meal and breakfast in the hotel conservatory which were very good. Close proximity to Calais but peaceful and quiet. A lovely stay on our last night in Europe.
Cons: Not a criticism but the addition of a fan would be really good.
7.5 Good
Pros: Always a great stop over.

Pros: Peaceful, friendly, spacious room, good food, ideal location
Cons: No bathtub (though I had asked for one). Slightly inadequate net curtains in ground floor room.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quite basic, but beds comfortable, and bathroom nice with good shower, and very clean, only stayed overnight so can't say much more. Location very peaceful and nice view from restaurant whilst eating breakfast.
Cons: Breakfast was ok but 13 euro per person which at current English rates (1.08 at time of writing) was expensive for 3 of us.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, modern and helpful staff. Food was excellent.
Cons: nothing to dislike.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome from the staff, all charming and helpful. The grounds in which the hotel is set. The well and attractively decorated rooms. The quiet location. The pleasant dining room..
Cons: Whilst the food was good, sensibly priced and well presented, it could have been better. I also thought the menu could have been more imaginative. It was not quite to the standard of the attractive dining room and excellent staff, so it disappointed a little.

Pros: The young lady who greeted us was very pleasant and understood English. She showed us the room, said we could use the kitchen and sitting room down stairs which had a TV and settee and told us where to eat as the onsite restaurant was closed on a Sunday. Comfy room, very quiet as in the countryside, lovely breakfast with lots of choice and very good value for money.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful especially when our train was massively delayed! Also after we told them we were leaving early in the morning and wouldn't need breakfast, when we changed our minds the table was laden with fab food and with a smile...!
Cons: It would have been useful to know there was a restaurant right next door for dinner the night before and the times it was open.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location for the port (we overestimated time to the port and managed to catch an earlier ferry), lovely and comfortable and Cindy was very welcoming. We had to telephone ahead as we were to arrive out of hours, our room key was left in our room with a lovely note on the blackboard and we also let Cindy know what time we wanted breakfast. Breakfast was very yummy and set us up for the last leg of our journey home. In all honesty we wish we had known about this place in our previous trips.

Pros: Friendly owners, very welcoming, nice dogs too!
7.0 Good
Pros: The bed was comfortable, the floors immaculately clean.
Cons: Nobody around when we arrived, no signage or prior instructions how to get to room. Felt like intruders sneaking around trying to find our room, exhausted all downstairs rooms, climbed the extremely steep stairs to discover 4 unmarked doors, one of which was unlocked with key on floor behind door, no note so assumed it was our room. Very small, very clean. Bedsheet has creases indicative of previous occupants but with no one around ce lavie. No soap in shower, tried to use earthenware dispenser from sink but nowhere to store it. Only 1 working power socket down near floor next to door, ironic notice on door “best practice, remove laptop, mobile phone etc” when not a chance of plugging any of these in (kettle had priority) Only discovered WiFi password pinned to refrigerator in breakfast area by being nosey. Food at breakfast was very good however no choice and no prior notice of content which resulted in courses arriving as and when. Obviously a lot of people like this type of accommodation as we booked purely on the feedback - we will not be returning.

Cons: No bar or evening meals provided but that's ok as not needed
9.5 Excellent
Pros: An excellent place to stay for the night with very good food and a warm welcome.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A beautifully kept house in the countryside, excellent as a stopover near Calais or for the nearby countryside. The rooms were very comfortable, and one of the larger rooms had an animal theme (including genuine deer hoofs holding the branch that held the curtain) that made it ideal for kids. Breakfast was standard continental but very nice quality.
Cons: Not a problem with the house as such, but there are a large number of decorations in the house. This is part of what makes it so attractive for an adult, but it also makes it a bit less ideal for anyone with small children, whose hands will try to grab everything.

Pros: The food was absolutely superb. Great value for money.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Was very late for check in, midnight, and despite last check in being 10pm, they waited for me. First time in France esp driving on yhe right and didn't want to go looking for another hotel in the middle of the night, so was extremely grateful to the young lad waiting up. Absolute gent!!!

7.0 Good
Pros: Clean room and bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Shower worked well. Breakfast and dinner were enjoyable. Free parking was located nearby. Close to a supermarket for last minute purchases. Staff were approachable and helpful.
Cons: Although this is not a very tourist hotel with pretty rooms and views, it was comfortable for a brief one night's stay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good, Dinner in the restaurant was outstanding. Good surroundings, friendly staff and excellent food, well prepared and imaginatively presented.
Cons: Lack of air conditioning but this could not be expected in a 2-star property in an unprecedented heatwave. Would have appreciated a second chair
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff were helpful with check in especially with parking our motorbike outside the hotel
Cons: The room was more basic than I'd expected and there were a couple of improvements that could be made to make it more comfortable e.g. there's only one bedside table, no mirror in the bedroom and the bath is slippery for a shower
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A quiet area with masses of parking. Simple unpretentious rooms. Superb food in the restaurant and an excellent breakfast. The owner is charming, helpful and understands English for those of us who do not speak French.
Cons: No problems whatsoever.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing and they accommodated our late check in
6.8 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, not that we saw them much as we didn't eat in most of the time, preferring to explore. Easy parking over the road, and a large supermarket across the square if you needed anything. Good breakfast and evening meal.
Cons: We normally self cater and we forgot there is often not tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms :( It was warm ish when we were there, mid 20's, and there is no air con or fan so we needed to leave the window open and it is a busy straight road so quite noisy. There are two floors and no lift for those not as fit as they should be - we were on the 1st floor. Not a lot in the way of bars or restaurants in the area.

Pros: We arrived much later than expected but the staff made sure that we were able to get our room keys. The rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay there again. Unfortunately, we did not have time to explore the town but as we drove through it looked nice.
7.5 Good
Pros: The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and we had a meal at the restaurant at the hotel which was very good too. The keys were on a table when we arrived which meant we could access the room earlier than anticipated which was very helpful. All in all a very good choice of venue. A short walk to the town centre; next door to the railway station which our room overlooked - absolutely stunning building. We would recommend a stay there - for one night it was a good choice.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Well located and reasonable parking nearby. Dinner in restauarant was quiet and menu a little dissapointing
Cons: The Restaurant
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We got two single rooms (as requested). They were on the second floor of the nicely renovated building. Best to have rooms on the top, second floor (as we had) as the floor boards are croaking (old building)... also best not to have a room above the entrance as it slams shut with a bang that may awake you. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is more than decent for 12,5€ pp. loved the quaint town of sint winoksbergen.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place in the building next to the hotel. We had our own entrance (room 29) opposite the church. Superb beds and nice and clean toilet (separate) and bathroom. Room has a good size and plenty of space for baggage.

Cons: Nothing, it was all good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb petit dejeuner, friendly atmosphere for a lone traveller with dog which I was able to take into the breakfast room which makes a huge difference... The situation of the hotel is charming as having now driven round Dunkirque It is not so pretty. This place has a fab baker, butcher (best duck rillette I've been able to buy in years) and seriously impressive cheese shop nearby if you want to stock up for your arrival at your destination. Dog not allowed in any of those! I couldn't check in until 11.30pm ish as the ferry arrived at 11pm and although there was no one on reception they sms'd me the entry code and my key was waiting for my room on the reception desk. It was a short drive from the port and I was able to park RIGHT OUTSIDE the door. They also made the most fabulously delicious sandwich for the onward drive to Hamburg... Merci beaucoup pour ca!. ;-)
Cons: I can't complain about anything. I got exactly what I needed. Thank you.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: This is a modern golf hotel with excellent facilities, especially if you play golf! We find it convenient for an overnight on the way back to Calais. The room is large and well appointed, the bathroom is spacious.

3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing - staff were so rude I wished I had never booked
Cons: Staff were extremely rude and unhelpful and service was terrible
9.3 Excellent
Pros: In beautiful grounds and only 20 minutes from Calais. As we drove in we didn’t know what to expect but we saw the chateau and we both instantly smiled. The grounds are pristine and the chateau itself looks well maintained and looked after. Our bedroom was on the ground floor and we slept with the window open as it was very warm but there was noise and we felt very safe. The bedroom beautifully decorated and the bathrobes and slippers made it special. The lounge bar is a nice space to relax in the evening and we enjoyed a drink outside before dinner. Dinner was something quite special. The food that was presented was not what we had in mind when we read the menu, in our opinion this is Michelin Star quality food in a lovely setting. With think the prices were very reasonable too. We shall certainly return with friends and family
Cons: Our minor criticisms are, the main front door should be left open to look more welcoming to guests, especially as there is an interior door. There was painting in the hallway so it would have been a good idea to leave windows open to ventilate the area as the fumes were very strong. However they did not enter our room so it is a small complaint.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: My friend had Birthday. I left a notice to the hotel and restaurant (booked table for dinner in advance as well). I did not expected much, but simple happy birthday note or might be candle in our desserts over dinner would be a nice gesture. Also room was very smelly and damp. I have been heavily bitten. Just hope it’s not bed bugs
Cons: Please see above
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was good. Bathroom was lovely. Great shower. Restaurant was superb. Excellent food. Grounds of hotel are beautiful. Such a great place to stay. We will be back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent meal, comfortable room, great location
Cons: Nothing not to like
6.3 Good
Pros: The situation
Cons: The initial welcome was very unwelcoming. We arrived at 3pm and were told we could not check in until 4pm!!!Had we not been liable for the cost of staying we would have left at that point. The receptionist dealing with us had to be asked to check if the room was ready. Luckily someone else arrived to say that the room was ready We were not even offered a place to go while we waited. No one offered to help with our luggage-we are both in our mid seventies and i do have a problem with cases and stairs. The reception for BBC was unwatchable and as we arrived in time for the Wimbledon men’s final we were disappointed. The evening meal was acceptable and the breakfast was excellent with a charming young lady in the dining room. We have stayed here in the past and have also had lunch a few times en passant but we will not be returning. We feel the hotel is resting on it’s past laurels and is sorely in need of refurbishment. Not
7.0 Good
Cons: No Aircon in bedroom or restaurant
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very nice - no staff at all present in the morning though.
Cons: The staff were very 'off' towards us - they hardy spoke and only showed us a menu in English when we were struggling to order from the French menu and then plonked the bottle of red wine on the table without even letting anyone try it first.
