Genuine hospitality and coziness are the keywords at the Inn, a little hotel with only 5 room. The hotel is situated in a over hundred years old farmhouse. Comfortable hotelroom and a excellent restaurant with a lovely atmosphere are making the best place to calm down completely. The host en the hostess will do anything to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Pros: Comfortable stay. Friendly staff.
Pros: Excellent service from the staff and an overall very good value for the money!
Pros: It was a quiet rural setting as we expected. The owners serve the guests dinner on Monday even though the restaurant was closed to the public on Monday. The food was excellent.
Cons: There was nothing about the place not to like
Located in Bourtange, Hotel Vesting Bourtange is in the historical district, a 5-minute drive from Bourtange Fortress and 13 minutes from Weddermarke Windmill. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: nice breakfast - lovely hostess ... very helpful with our toddler ... fan in the room was a nice touch in the warm weather ... the ability to see the ramparts in the evening was wonderful, especially as we were there in a heat wave and it would have been a bit much for our toddler to be out in the sun running around during the day
Cons: many flies (and bees) at the restaurants (outdoor seating) ... public transit (in the summer and weekends was more cumbersome than NS reis planner indicated, but the staff at the site were incredibly helpful)
Pros: The customer service from the young lady ? In the dining room. Think her name was Yvonne
Pros: Breakfast was well presented by staff in old style Dutch outfits.
Cons: My comments both refer to safety issues. It seems that the main restaurant is run by a private company that the Fort has no control over. I pointed out to the reception/check-in that there were peanuts/cashews in a curry that was being served and no warnings were being given about the potential serious results to people with allergies in the dining area. I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THERE COULD BE A FATALITY AND YOU SHOULD NOT EAT THERE IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS. It is possible to walk around the ramparts of the Fort. If you have young children with you DON'T do it. It is a narrow walkway with a VERY steep drop of perhaps 40 feet on either side of you VERY DANGEROUS. In several spots you have to cross over open drops on 2/3 very narrow boards. DONT' DO IT, YOU COULD REGRET IT !! Health and Safety would not allow it in the UK.
Pros: size of room
Cons: beds were a little small
Pros: The Bourtange fortress was most interesting and it was handy to stay inside the fortress area for visiting all the small museums. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: Bed was not practical as it was fitted in the wall and you could only get out on one side. The breakfast was adequate but rather basic compared to other hotels/b&bs
Cons: The pillows weren't so comfortable, to the point where I wished I brought my own from home.
Pros: The atmosphere was great. Perfect for a quiet weekend.
Cons: You have to decide already at checkin when you plan to go for breakfast the next day.
Pros: The location of the facility right in the village was just perfect and added to our enjoyment of our stay.
Cons: The bed was too short and too narrow for two normal people. The bedding was very poor. There was no mattress cover just a very thin worn bed sheet. Not sanitary as it should be.
Pros: Everything was perfect, very nice and romantic place for relaxing and spending time faraway from the real city life

Pros: Lovely, quiet location in the countryside. Rooms are simple, but large, comfortable and clean. Our room (one of the apartments) had a private entrance going down to the garden. The couple running the hotel was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was typical (soft-boiled eggs, breads, meats, cheeses, juice, coffee/tea) but everything was fresh and quickly replenished.

Pros: The host was most helpful and pleasant and flexible with our special needs to secure our velomobiles (in our room!). They prepared our breakfast in the evening as we planned to leave way before the official one.
Cons: The fact that Sellingen (and Holland) close shops restaurants so early on Saturdays.
Pros: A very big bathroom with a bath and shower. The room/apartment was very nicely decorated in our style. Comfortable chairs and a table, a little dining table with two chairs to sit, eat, read or write. And as a real plus a little kitchenette. We were made very welcome when we arrived a bit to earl; it was no problem at all. We got good usefull information about where to eat nearby. And it was on a location that was so quiet in the night. A good environment with lots of possibilities for recreation like cycling, walking or just relaxing. And it was nice to see old vehicles in the shop where we got our key for our accommodation. It were old cars and means of transport from the brands we like very much. The shop itself was nice too. There it was possible to have some coffee or some other drinks like tea, beer or so before closing time. We could park our car directly in front of the apartment. Very convenient for loading and getting our bagage inside.
Cons: The room we had was big enough, but with a bigger window it could have been nicer. We couldn't find a little electric watercooker to make ourselves a bit of coffee or tea. And not a glas or cup in the bathroom for cleaning your teeth. I need to rinse my dentures and need to lay that somewhere and that is why I got a soupbowl out of the kitchenette. Not a lot of glasses in the kitchenette either. Just for wine and two cups for coffee or tea. Not a simple glas for drinking water. Luckily I travel with some cups in my car for drinks so I used those. The channels on the tv were certainly not the best of quality; I did not mind but my partner did. And I found the cover over the beds almost to heavy to lift and I did not know where to put it. It found the weather to warm to sleep with the beds covered with it.
Pros: Breakfast really good. Very kind hosts
Pros: We liked the room/apartment, the very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast, the place. Easy to park near your room. We love the shop they have. There is a supermarket nearby.

Pros: Visiting in winter, we were a little concerned the room might be chilly. But we were pleasantly surprised by the heated floor! So even with the big windows and tile, it was nice and toasty. Bright and spacious room overlooking quiet countryside, good breakfast, very convenient to nearby attractions.
Cons: Bathroom has one of those showers that's just a drain in the floor, with no curtain. Maybe these only confuse Americans? Heated floor in bathroom, too, so at least it was comfortable.
Pros: Good Dutch breakfast, fun game room for the family, quiet and just a short drive to Bourtange.
Cons: Bathrooms felt institutional.
Pros: Friendly staff Great location close to nature The Fortress of Bourtange is only 2 km. away.
