The hotel was very easy to find from the directios given, only a matter of minutes from the motorway.. On arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful with an excellent understanding of English - far better than my French. The rooms we booked were clean and comfortable - ideal after a days travelling. If needed the bar is open 24/7!! Although there was tea and coffee facilities in the room there was no milk, reception was unable to supply. The dining room was not open as it was a Saturday night - however I can thoughly recommend the Buffulo Grill 2 minutes walk away.
Very close to the tram stop - tram goes into the city centre and you can leave the car at the car park.
friendly staff and ease of access as well as good value for money
good location for Normandy Beaches No frills
Overall the hotel was clean, The staff was helpfully Hotel returant wasn't open on the weekends and holiday so it made it hard to find a resturant for dinner.
staff were very helpful generally, hotel was very quiet and located very conveniently just off the Caen ring road.Parking wasavailable right outside my window as it happens, and was free and secure. Not really, the room fittings could have done with a few simple repairs, eg the shower riser clamp for the shower head did not retain the shower head in position, consequently the shower head slid down the rail of its own annoying accord. Also Tea / Coffee kit in room had no milk. Hotel had no maps available for the Normandie beach areas, which is a bit strange as its allegedly a popular hotel for visitors to that area??
Hotel in need of investment. Bar area poor, and the restraunt claiming variety of cuisine was inaccurate. Would not recommend hotel to any family seeking accomodation in Caen as there are no facilities in the hotel or in the vicinity of the hotel for families.
Rooms were spacious and conveniently located next to a Buffalo Grill. Probably could do with a refurb.
The staff were very helpful and really polite and the breakfast was good It was a bit noisy and the view wasn't that great but then it was also very cheap so you get what you pay for!
Very friendly staff, clean, and a convenient location for Normandy business school where my daughter is studying. Also located next to Buffalo Grill which was excellent. Nothing
Stayed one night only. Hotel is ideally located for the Ouistreham ferry terminal. It is a short walk away from the Pegasus Bridge and museum. Hotel is a motel style, rooms are clean. Rooms are small and a little claustrophobic. Double bed is small by French standards. There is no courtesy tray, but there is a small ( poorly stocked) fridge. Restaurant is very expensive and out of keeping with the overall motel style accommodation. Nearest budget restaurant is at Pegasus Bridge, although hardly cheap. No bar facilities.
Was accommodated in annex across road. Very modern and stylish and quiet comfortable room. Excellent restaurant with some reasonably priced dinner menus. Had several very enjoyable dinners. Central location for touring the British sector of Normandy D-Day action, and easy drive to American sector if have car. The very modern bathroom still required standing precariously in an inadequately screened bathtub to take a shower. Difficult and dangerous for older people and end up with a very wet floor. I was told no walk-in showers. Pity!. Also found the breakfast disappointing, two petit pains and a croissant plus coffee was your allotted portion. No buffet offered.
free wi-fi, position
The hotel Courtonne was in an excellent location for our 1 nights stay, nearby Resturants were very convenient, double room although very clean was small and it was a very small double bed, very friendly and helpful staff It is in a town, so noise of people having a party in nearby appartments could be heard into the early hours of the morning
Bars / restaurants on both sides of the hotel = a significant amount of noise.
The Manager was very friendly and helpful. The location in Caen harbour is excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable. No
Warm welcoming staff and a comfortable room at a low cost
Receptionist moved our rooms so we could be near our motorcycles for added security. No tea/coffee facilities in rooms,
value for money remote from night life
Close to main road with adequate shopping and dining facilities nearby Could d with a spruce up, neons not working a lick of paint here and there
Complicated system of registration in hotel and getting of the rooms. Registration number I've got from booking.com was too much long and didn't allow to take rooms without an emergency call.
Very cheap If you control the adress and change it as it is in the Premiere Classe Hotels Catalogue it will be easier to travel by car and find it. And also if you can confirm the name you reserve the hotel for us it will make it easier to check in with machine.
although budget hotel the room was clean and comfortable not much ventilation in room - too hot
price really, really small - the hotel staff were gruff and borderline rude
Very handy to reach the early Portsmouth ferry from Caen.
Dreadful - I have stayed at numerous budget hotel chains in France - including Premier Class - and I like to think I have a good idea of their good and bad points, but this one was in a class of its own. The automated check in didn't work properly. My son and myself must have spent ten minutes in freezing weather ( 10.30 at night) trying to get in. I didn't have a choice about the arrival time as I had just arrived on the ferry from Portsmouth like many of your guests. Freezing cold - like a minute prison cell and about as welcoming. Never again!
cheap bunker like, small, miniscule shower.
location of the hotel for visiting the normandy beaches which was the main purpose of our visit. Free parking on site very convenient. family room consisted of 2 rooms with interconnecting door. rooms adequate for our needs. kids delighted with free WIFI. did not get breakfast as 7 euros per head added 35 euros to our budget. Maybe if they offered croissant and drink for 3-4 euros we would have availed of it!
The beds were very comfortable and staff were helpful. The location is a long way from downtown Caen.
Very reasonable restaurant. Food of good quality. Friendly staff. Rooms small but adequate for the purpose.
Good location, easy to find. Restaurant open to 9.30 pm which is not always the case in similar hotels we have stayed at and helpful as we didn't arrive until 8.45 pm The shower screen was too short and as a consequence the bathroom floor became very wet
Friendly staff, proximity to the Memorial. Tiny twin bed room that only barely had enough room for one small table, so one bed had no bed side table. In fact the room was so small that the curtains couldn't be pulled across without moving the one bed. Ridiculous. Plastic coated mattress covers meant very little sleep due to discomfort until we realised what it was that was making the beds so bad. Pre-fabricated shower-room.
It was easy to find and close to the memorial. No one spoke much English. And good luck to you if you need to do laundry while staying there. No one could tell me where there was a laundromat.
very near to the war museum. you need transport to stay here.
Excellent value for money Perfect location for Caen centre and roads out Good food Welcoming and helpful front desk staff Convenient parking Cleaning the bedrooms needs to be a little more thorough(dust under the beds) Breakfast counter is rather crowded Hot water for tea and coffee needs to be filled up more frequently at breakfast time
The lady who checked us in was very pleasant, helpful and friendly. She also served us dinner and again was charming.
Locati0n, price. Staff were the nicest people and helpful, breakfast good and substantial.
Very friendly staff and good breakfast. Hotel was very clean and well presented. Room was not serviced after our first night (i.e. bed was not made and towels were not changed). Hotel pillows were extremely thin and the second towel was only half size
ideal location for normandie beaches, pleasant staff, very clean
Ideal for an overnight stop before an early ferry. The bathroom could have been cleaner!
Friendly welcome; helpful with breakfast options for special diet. Handy for supermarket petrol.
Easy stop over on the way to the ferry in Caen. Futuristic egglu/ferry cabin style mini bathroom with powershower. Receptionist not computer screen to book in, even though it was 10 pm. Gate on carpark at night which was good as it was located on a bit of trading estate. Bunk beds in the family room were ideal for our kids but might have been a little risky with 2, 3 or 4 year old kids. Map on booking site wouldn't print.
You get exactly what you pay for. Basic facilities at a reasonable cost, with an adequate breakfast.
Very easy to find from Caen peripherique. Not much coice of eating places in immediate vicinity.
Friendly helpful staff, dinner at restaurant was convenient and good, checking in and out was easy. Bathroom was small and shower awkward to use, bed covering was too heavy, to warm with it and to cool without it.
Room was very clean and appeared to be newly decorated. Wifi was intermittent.
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
Best food ever! None
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
Car Park. Good WiFi reception. Rooms ready on arrival and clean. Experience of breakfast very poor each day we were there. Hot food all eaten when we arrived in dining room, although still one hour of breakfast period remaining, and hotel staff would not provide any for us and other guests. Once initial batch of hot food was eaten, they refused to supply any more, which was annoying for us and other guests. Whilst we do not expect hot food in a budget hotel, it would have been better for us not to have seen the leftover congealed scraps of hot food in their containers which we could not partake of. Early diners had the additional hot food choice, although we were all paying the same rates.
clean & airy poor soundproofing, quite a long way from city centre
All facilities closed on weekend, no food service,no bar
location was good for the trip, staff were really most helpfull especially the young man on day duty.all meals were excellant i had the imression from booking agent that your hotel was closer to Normandy Beaches than it actually was.
Room was clean comfortable and well equipted. Staff pleasant an breakfast excellent. Hotel was rather difficult to find. It would have been helpful to have had a more detailed map of area.
Free parking, that's all. Public parking in Caen Centreville can be difficult to find, especially on Sunday when they close down at 1pm. They overcharged me for the first night. They did not honor Booking.com rates. No hair dryer.
Close to the locations we wanted to visit. Clean, comfortable and cheap.
Dinner was excellent and good value. Buffet breakfast was very good too, also good value for money. Location was not brilliant. Lack of evening meal on Saturday.
It seemed like everything was just ten minutes away (which is a good thing!). There is nothing of interest around the hotel so a car is a must. The room was most definitely on the small side (not especially wheelchair- friendly), but the layout was thoughtful. They booked my party of three different rooms in the same hallway, which was very appreciated by us all. I loved the free parking. The breakfast was not worth the price. Travelers would do better to find a bakery and eat some pastries. If you're simply looking for a place to lay your head before visiting Le Mémorial or downtown Caen, that is what you will find here. Not much incentive to "hang out" in your room, but for the price we paid, that was just fine. It was a little odd that they give you your remote control for the tv when you check in.
Ease of access, conveniently situated for my requirements.
Excellent location for town of Caen. Good for shopping. Parking a problem. Breakfast not good value for money. Nice hotel overall but for a 4 star rating needs a bit more. Bathroom very sparc with accessories, hair dryer very poor wall mounted. Bar expensive for drinks.
Superb food and service
Quiet, parking possibility, very good situation
Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Excellent location very close to old city centre, shops and restaurants. Wonderful buffet breakfast. The 'standard' room was a bit on the small side, but ok. We had enough room for the 2 of us.
Hotel is clean, quiet and has very helpful staff
Outstanding food, excellent staff, wonderful atmosphere, good location. I first stayed here about 15 years ago and the level of service and quality of the food has been maintained with the same level of excellence and care - an outstanding tribute to the dedication and care of the management and staff at Le Dauphin.
was wonderful and friendly. Diner was outstanding! too much rain...but I guess you cannot control
A high standard hotel in an excellent city centre location. Good parking.
The service overall was predominantly very good, especially at the restaurant. On arrival we came down for a drink after check in, we were kept waiting about 20 minutes before we were able to get a drink, I had to ask her her 3 or 4 times during that period,This was the only blip, the service thereafter was very good from the reception desk.
The hotel is very close to all the attractions within Angers - a couple of blocks from the Cathedral and a few more from the Castle. It is well appointed and the staff were friedly and helpful. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was excellent. Rooms are small - even though we had booked a superior rom it was cramped
The hotel was quiet, clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The best thing was the food in the restaurant, which was excellent and good value.
The restaurant was very good value with a large selection of food and menus of allprices.
The food was excellent and good value for money The bedroom was a bit spartan but reasonably priced so we can't complain
Room and bathroom extremely clean. Parking possibility on site without additional charge. Quality/price ratio is excellent.
I booked the hotel as it said on your website, good area to visit the D Day beaches, as in it is located near the d day beaches, i dont consider 30kilometres 'nearby'. This is false advertising and this was not satisfactory at all. It is a good hotel if you want to visit villiers bocage or Falaise but its a long drive of over 50minutes (country roads also) to the D Day beaches. You should amend the details of this hotel. The room was extremely cramped and the hotel did not offer packed lunches to my knowledge.
The price was good. The rooms are tiny particularly the bathroom. You couldn't open the bathroom door because the bed was in the way. There was also hair in the bathroom. The bathroom is like taking a shower in a boat.
Staff very pleasant, Bar meals and hotel meals very good. Clean rooms. Double beds uncomfortable - Kept rolling into middle. Sewer smell from toilet at times.
good location during long journey back to the UK, very helpful staff
Room very clean, staff helpful and friendly. Set in quiet area, good to search Normandy coastline, good links to main roads. While the rooms, restaurant and main aspects of the hotel were very clean, the bar area of the hotel (and also the area that breakfast was served) was not up to the same level of cleanliness. Cockroach traps in the bar and lots of flies.
friendly staff easy parking cost
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
The behavior of the rep was very good. And they can speak English very well. I wish they serve only boiled egg at the breakfast.
excellent location, clean and modern and quiet
Friendly staff,excellent location
The room is in good sizeand internet is perfect no
Proximity to the airport was important, we enjoyed the breakfast at the loby restaurant as well.
The staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned with fresh linen everyday. The hotel is very central and there is a short walk to shops, food, restaurants. Breakfast is reasonably priced and car parking opposite is also reasonably priced for 24hrs. It would have been nice for the hotel to have a restaurant for evening meals and a better bar area. The rooms lacked comfortable seating.
Location, modern, clean no
One of the better hotels I have stayed in, it ticked most of the boxes. Clean,Friendly, Helpful, Location etc. The rooms were too hot, the air conditioning unit did not work it continually blew out heat.I switched it off and slept with the window open
central location, overlooking a square with trees and flowers
Town Centre Location was very good No parking, however public underground opposite
The hotel is immaculate. The proprietor, Mr. Regis is very nice. The room was very quiet and the wifi worked well. He operates a bar/cafe on the premises as well. There is no elevator but the proprietor carried my large suitcase upstairs for me.
Clean, comfortable hotel. Some members of reception staff were rude and unwelcoming.
Very accessible location, restaurant was good, would recommend.
The room was comfortable and spacious and close enough to Caen In the room there was a chair which was a little bit dirty.
An excellent hotel to use for a night's stay whilst travelling through France. Clean, comfortable & a good atmosphere.
excellent launching site for surrounding countryside
Location a little out of town centre and right on the ring road. In room internet was advertised as being free, but didn't work at all and hotel staff had no idea about it.
Large, comfortable and clean room and spotless bathroom. Easy access by tram into Caen centre.
Paper cups and poor tea / coffee making facilities. The cost of drinks at the bar. Lack of bath towels in the room
The hotel lobby was clean and the outdoor pool area looked nice It was not clean at all. Our room had filthy carpets.
Good for staying for a night. Not the worst of the Novotel hotels (comparing to Le Mans at least), but will not stay there next time. Actually do not recommend Caen at all, Rouen is much more interesting.
Staff really nice and helpful, perfect location on the port and 2 min walk from the main center. A bit noisy at night, but bear in mind the place is in the main center, surrounded by bars and pubs.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was not very big but big enough with a good sized bathroom - no shower but a shower head on the bath. The hotel is at the port and we had a very of it from the room. Not too far from the train station
Location was fantastic, walk to sights and restaurants, parking avaliable opposite hotel. Lovely Port view.
The staff were friendly and efficient. As I said above, the staff were friendly and efficient but I drove past the hotel at first because the place is so dark and not very welcoming. The twin room and toilet on the 2nd floor smelt and felt damp and the bathroom was bit of an afterthought. This hotel needs some money spending on it to bring it into the 20th century let alone the 21st. If the wife had been with me I would have left and gone somwhere else. Also, at e50 per night it is very expensive for a single traveller and e7 for a bread and jam breakfast is over the top. However, in it's favour a lot of the other hotels in the area don't look any better. My room overlooking the port unfortunately meant I was kept awake half the night by singing drunks and fat girls standing in the road trying to do a belly dance. Gruesome. Thought I was back in Hull. Sorry, and it's no reflection on the staff but I won't be going back.
As in many other cities in France, the service in the hotel makes you forgive them some other things. Nikolas advised us everything we need and even exceeded our expectations in his hospitality and willing to communicate in good English. Seems we had the smallest room (203 if I am not mistaken), but with biggest bathroom (we've rechecked on evacuation plan). Everything was veeery simple, but clean and cosy, the price is fair. The street wasn't too noisy, hence I slept well for 2 nights we spent there, that is very important. WiFi worked well. Breakfast was tasty. The room was slightly claustrofobic at first sight, but that wasn't a big deal for us. important for drivers - parking is not private and can't be reserved. It is in front of the hotel, but public and between 3 and 10 pm it can be really hard to find a place. But you should just "hunt" it for 5-10 minutes and most probably somebody will leave. There are other parkings in 5 minutes: open near marina and also underground under chateau, but I don't know the price.
My parents came over to visit us in Europe, my dad wanted to go to Omaha and Utah Beach, the hotel is very close to both so it was a great location and for what we paid per night the hotel was great.
The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. The hotel is clean and comfortable and our bathroom was fantastic with a wonderful bath. We really enjoyed our stay and wuld recommend the hotel to others.
Beautiful building and setting, with lovely gardens - and the food was very good. Enormous, comfy bed! This is an expensive hotel for food and drinks (for France). It seems quite geared towards the tastes of wealthy international tourists, on a particular circuit - and the atmosphere reflects that.
Great location; fabulous restaurant; nice rooms; pleasant staff; wonderful place to stay for visit to Normandy
We had stayed there once before and we loved the ambiance and the location. The lack of restaurant dinner service and of the bar on Mondays was a drawback. We had a much better experience when we stayed there last July.
Excellent ambience, excellent food, delightful pool, delightful decor, impeccable service, magnificent gardens
The Chateau was beautiful. We had a very large room (superior room). It was a welcome respite after a day touring the Normandy region in the rain!Enjoyed cocktails in the lounge and dinner by the fire(be sure to ask to be seated in the room with the fireplace) We felt the location was convenient for touring but quite a distance away from other restaurants. The hotel restaurant was very expensive. We felt at least breakfast should have been included in the rates. Service was included but was not mentioned again when we asked.
beautiful location, services, facilities, breakfast, dinner menu for late check-in
The restaurant was excellent. The room was very comfortable.
Magnificent building set in beautiful grounds.Excellent for a stop off as close to Cherbourg and for visting Bayeux and the famous beaches.Good service. When we have stayed here before the food has been very good. However see below. On the night we stayed Monday 11th Sept there was a fixed menu at night.I appreciate many gourmet restaurants close on Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays but they are missing a trick during the summer months.Further we arrived at lunch and there was no food at all !!
The hotel looks great from the outside. It was downhill after that. The hotel is isolated. Finding a batman was a challenge. Poor service. Bad rooms. We rejected the first one offered because it smelled damp and were put in the attic. Bathroom was new but decor of room and most of hotel was in dire need of a makeover. Expensive food was not up to normal standards of a Relais and Chateau property. Would recommend avoid this place. No one even answered room service calls on last day and there was no one at reception for over an hour to make up our bill. a bad experience.
Beautiful castle...friendly staff...outstanding kitchen..
Convenient, clean and friendly Nothing
For the price the accomodation was clean and adequate. Breakfast was excellent. Room was extremely small and difficult to move around with two adults.
A restful location and a basic, clean hotel. Food excellent
Excellent location near the highway and close to town. Price/quality very good. Meal serving details could improve a little bit.E.G. Serving bread without butter on our table and with butter on other tables. White wine too warm. Just little details that improve overall image.
As an infrequent traveller to France, the helpfullness and fluency, of the recepotion staff, with the english language was a real bonus. The breakfast buffet was excellent, fresh and plentiful. The rooms were very clean and orderly and the hairdryer a plus! I would highly recommend this Campanile Hotel to my friends. Nothing - all was in order.
secured parking, good staff, very quick checking poor phonic isolation of the room, poor breakfast for 8 €, difficult to find at night.
