It's very closed to the central park. The bath shower is old and hard to be used.one of the shower's ceiling is leaking. And it's not convenience to use the hair dryer. What's more, I lost my pajamas at at the hostel. It just disappearred in my room. And the housekeeping said they may take it as the laundry. This is redicules!
Location was excellent and price was affordable. $2 to store a bag was reasonable and security staff assisted with that cheerfully. Perhaps it was an off day, but the 8th floor had a pervasive odor that was unpleasant to say the least. I also was cursed with untidy floor mates who messed up the bathroom and this wasn't cleaned during the 14 hours I was sharing it. The front desk also had an indifferent attitude while checking in - almost as if my presence was disturbing their other plans for the evening. I am pretty tolerant of shared facilities and budget properties in NY, but overall this experience managed to fall even below those standards. I enjoyed my stay at the East Side Y last year, but this stay at the West Side Y left a lot to be desired.
Sheets and a blanket was a pleasent surprise! Also cleaning every day was luxury thing. Room was warm and the hallways were in good condition. Bed was comfy too. Staff in helpful and you can enter the guesthouse anytime. The toilet at the 9th floor is hidious. There was some little bugs flying, I thought that okay whatever, but when I saw a cocroach I thought this is too much. You can use the swimming pools showers and toilets, they are renovated and in excellent condition.
Best location Bed is not comfortable
Wow! to the location and gym facilities. With just a few small fixes, this could be a great (NYC inexpensive) place to stay. There was no facecloth provided There were ZERO coat hangers in the closet in my room, despite lots of space for them. One of only three showers in the only male bathroom on the 9th floor was broken (the water control handle was broken off) and could not be used. Your wifi network system blocks all access to destination port 465, ie SMTP, one of the oldest and most basic protocols on the Internet. Yes, many people get their mail through the web (http) nowadays, but many of us don't, and there's no security or other reason to block ssh, ntp, smtp, etc ports. First day, there was no shampoo nor conditioner in my room Second day: there was conditioner but no shampoo in my room. There was no water fountain / source of drinkable water on the floor (bathroom taps sprayed). On two cold days in late April, the room was too hot at night.
The whole place in general is very safe and monitored. So the safety problem doesnt really exist there. The windows open to provide fresh air. Lots of bathrooms. Easy area to get out of and get to whereever you need to be. However, they have a curfew, a human body limit per room and will try to charge you for as much as possible during your stay. I had to rent a DOUBLE bed room because i had a friend stay over (which apparently isnt allowed). No food, only 99c soap to shower with and no ventelation in bathrooms. staff is rude at any chance they get and the other guests staying there weren't any better. They even charge you per bag if you want to leave your bags in the locker room.
The location was perfect as we were across the street from Central Park, close to Lincoln Center, Columbus Square, and other great cites in the city. The staff was very friendly, and I appreciated the fact that there was a security desk in the lobby. The beds were surprisingly comfortable for being bunk beds and the room was very quiet as our window faced away from the street. The shared bathroom and showers were a bit of a challenge, but, considering the price, wasn't too bad just inconvenient.
Pool was fun. Staff was wonderful. Room was inexpensive. Location was great. Room 905 -- private bathroom was nice for us traveling as a father and son. Very Spartan. Feels like an old apartment building or dorm room -- room floor is linoleum, tile is old, windows are old. The room felt clean, but there is grime in the corners.
Excellent location near Central Park, close to subway stops. One of cheapest places to stay in NYC. Single room had AC, small flat screen TV, desk and chair. Free wifi that works fairly well. Can store luggage before checking and after checking out for $2 per bag. Can use Y facilities, gym, pool, etc. Communal bathroom is usually a mess. Water on floor, sinks stopped up and horrible smell. Sometimes noisy with slamming doors so bring ear plugs just in case
I like the comfort of just walking around the city and close to subway stations, shopping area, central park and others. Staffs are very good and accomodating except the guards coz i saw a woman with stroller and baby with bags and they dont even care to open the door. I dislike other guests who does not care about other guests esp in the middle of the night.
Good value and great location. Great staff and security as well. Clean sheets and passable furniture. This is definitely an alternative to the el cheapo rooms in the East Village and felt safe at all hours. I would recommend this place again when traveling on a tight budget. The glass shower doors afford no privacy when showering. Don't know how the women's showers are configured, but for the guys, it's three next to each other across from the sinks/mirrors. I was brushing my teeth at the mirror facing the mirror and the guy behind me in the shower was, well I had to close my eyes. Also be advised that this is a really nice hostel, so expect loud kids late into the night. However, never enough to wake me up (I was there for five nights).
Noisy: banging through the night. Cleaning staff did not respect do not disturb sign on door knop
Staff answered questions via email very quickly. Staff were very friendly. Room, shared bathroom and fadcilities were exceptionally clean. Very affordable. Excellent bang for the buck. Staff did not answer phone calls. I tried several numbers and several times.
My room lights and a fire alarm tweeting caused me distress
The room was an efficiancy, small and neat, no need to spend too much time cleaning up!, the trip down the hall to use the bathroom gave me a chance to feel my feet after a long plane and train flight. The staff was nice and easy to talk to and I enjoyed the use of the facilities, particularly the swimming pooo!, Thanks for a Good Time! Hard to keep the bathroom clean, I needed another blanket, and the heater was an air condititioner. I felt a bit chilly!
Price and walking distance from
Location was excellent There was a doorman around the clock Showers were a little old Carpets were quite dirty
Simple life, simple place, simple night.
Great place to stay if you are traveling alone to NYC Na
you expect little of a hostel in N-Y city and this one made the $40 a lot more than just a night in a budget accomodation! I have been in far more expensive hostels in the City and they are no match for this one. Definitely recommended.
Clean, friendly staff and based in a good location
nothing. the person on the phone was super rude. it was late and obviously they could give to shits that it's raining and it's 11pm and you've double booked me. im sure this place in nice but c'mon. you don't double book and make it seem like it's the customer's fault. and then don't help them book another hotel or motel or whatever. god knows if i even got my money back. don't really care. thanks guys.
Privacy and friendliness of staff
The location I'm no picky guy, but it's definitely an experience to sleep in a room that is 21 square feet ( 6' by 3.5' ). It's always a question of the 'bang for the buck', and I'd rather pay $90 on groupon for 100+ square feet with my own space rather than $50 for 21 square feet.
The staff were amazing! Very polite and very helpful.
dirty, smelly, discusting
There were some kind of blood mark in one of the bed sheets. Also found one spider in the corner of the room. Except these two remaining everything was above expectations.
The friendly ppl who work there great atmosphere felt like a home away from home Nope
The room was clean, the staff were awesome I honesty did not have any dislikes
The sitting room was nice and big with a few tvs. The beds are bunkbeds. The lockers in Room 326 did not close so you could not put a lock on them.
Reading reviews over Broadway Hotel & Hostel on the internet, we had low expectation and was prepared for the worst. But we were pleasantly surprised on arrival on how good this hotel is. We had the Double Bed / Deluxe Room. The room was clean and spacious. Excellent bed with clean sheets. Nice, clean bathroom and clean towels everyday. Two blocks away from the subway station, and lot of nice restaurants / cafes in the neighborhood. no water cooker, no phone
Every person that I saw coming to the front desk, including me, would have a reservation problem. Or it wasn't registered, or a different number of people were booked. If you stay there more than one night, expect to have to change rooms!
Clean, but the heating battery didn´t work properly so it was quite chilly in the room.
Good location, nice atmosphere, cleaner than the average hostel in NYC always a long line at the reception desk
The mattress of the room was criminal and there is plenty of room to improve the premises of the hotel and its rooms. The price is high for the quality obtained.
The hotel was nice, but staff was really rude and unwilling to help you. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to people witch are looking for a hostel like experience. Staff,Staff,Staff, especially male Caucasian guy. He was rude to me and my sister.
Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Our hotel door was jammed a bit and was hard to open and close. The door knob was also broken so you would have to turn it all the way and basically kick the door to open it.
Staff were very nice and helpful. Room very small, but as I expected. Bed comfortable and accommodations were great for the price.
The staff were really helpful and the room was very clean The room was not available for us on the first night and we were checked in at another hotel. Also the tv didn't work, there was no iPod dock and the shower valve was unreliable.
There were the problems with hot water in the bathrooms (2nd floor) in the morning during my stay in the hostel
Comparatively doesn't worth for the money your service and facilities. Elevator is deadly experience. Breakfast location is unbelievable and terrible. Not clean at all. Toilet tap handle bath shower was broken since the moment we entered and no body was bother to fixed and I was suffered lot with my kids for five days. Minimum facilities at least should provide for the people who are paid. And receptionists must show more profitionalism. Drinking hot water facilities in the room at least. ? Deadly elevator. Breakfast room location very danger full of electric wires room and no body bother to clean. Only WiFi was good.
1) room was a decent size for Manhattan 2) price was reasonable for Manhattan 3) very close to Columbia University, many eateries on Broadway, and the 1 subway line. 4) bathroom, although "shared" with other rooms is entirely private once you step inside and close the door behind you. The couple days I was there, the bathroom was always available when I wanted it; never occupied by anyone else. 5) WiFi was fine. 6) The room I had seemed quiet. 1) Strictly enforced check-out time of only 11am is stressful. 2) Bathroom, although entirely clean and fine, was a bit old and nothing special. 3) Front-desk staff, although never problematic in my limited experience, often seem like they wish they could find another job.
The Morningside is in a GREAT location, very close to the northwest corner of Central park. Morningside is a dump and in serious need of renovation. My room leaked water when someone above took a shower!
1. Can't beat the price for NYC. 2. Location excellent - Upper West Side, one block from Broadway, near Columbia University. 3. I arrived at 2am (two hours later than expected), and front desk staff was there waiting for me - can't expect that from AirBnB or any other such private arrangements. 4. Style is typical of NYC apartment buildings on the Upper West Side. 1. Internet was not working when I needed it the morning of my check-out, though front desk was aware of the problem and had already contacted the provider to come reset the system. 2. Left luggage room in the basement is a bit dingy, but served its purpose.
There is nothing that I liked about this hostel. I had a lay over of 10 hours at JFK and I didn't want to spend the night at the airport.... But after I arrived to the hostel I felt that I should have stayed at the airport. The pictures they show on the website are a total lie. There is no free breakfast and they charged me 10 dollars for the shuttle, when the site says its free...I wouldn't call it a Hostel. It's a two bedroom small apartment behind the Super 8 Motel. The staff was rude and unfriendly. The sheets had hair strands all over, there is no kitchen, and is very hard to sleep with all the noise coming from the upstairs apartments and the ones next door...
I stayed in many hostels before but this was by far the worst. It looked like an odinary resident house was remodelled to be a hostel, so for example in the kitchen some beds were separated only by a curtain. And the bathroom was really tiny for all the rooms. The rooms were really hot with poor conditioning. The matresses look filthy, in yellow spots over, the linen looked the same. Overall, a really bad experience except for the Super 8 reception and airport shuttle. Rooms, bathroom, linen etc
It was very nice, that you have computer at the hostel + TV + it's 3min from subway. It was a litle bit uncomfortable to know, that any body who knows the pass for intrance in your hostel (when I was trying to get inside the gay from second flor from the same building told me that pass) can get in it.
Very near jfk It was written that bf was included, I needed to pay 5 usd extra!
Wifi and even a a computer with guest account provide internet access. There's a fridge too. Beyond that, beds ad narrow rooms n a very basic state. Even if decently cleaned, it looks miserable. AirCond very noisy but not effective.
Location Gross bathrooms with collapsing ceilings, loud and dumb neighbors, too bright to sleep, if the A/C goes out you'll basically suffocate.
You get exactly what you pay for, a very safe, clean and very, very small room about 4 feet wide and 6 feet long. But that is exactly what I wanted, plus an internet connected computer at the end of the hall. Also very, very quiet. Stairway was a bit dirty and there was no elevator up to 5th floor.
room as cheap They put me in a cheaper room (that i didn't reserve) and charged me for the room I booked. they filled up all the rooms so i was unable to switch.
The location was nice. Easy access to Subway and walkable to China Town and Little Italy. The price was affordable for staying in Manhattan. The hotel provided towels, shampoo, travel tooth brush and tooth paste. The bathrooms are shared but generally we didmt have to wait long for an opening. Also they are spacious and cleaned daily. This is a decent place if you are traveling alone and just looking for a cheap please to sleep. The room was very small (6'x9'). The mattress springs were squeaky and uncomfortable. There sheets and comforter were stained. Only on of the outlets worked. The room had a small fan but NO WINDOW and very little room to move around as the double bed took up most of the space. All that said our biggest complaint was the noise. There is no sound insulation. We were in a room in the middle of the hallway and we could hear talking from adjacent rooms, all of the movement in the hallway, doors opening and closing and even street noise (sirens, large trucks). If you are a light sleeper this is definitely not the place for you.
What an unusual place! You walk up four long flights, get a bright and clean though windowless cell, find acceptable bathrooms down the hall, and wonder if it's a good idea. The room has tiny cabinet, light, plugs, mattress, sheets, blanket, pillow, trashcan. You were given soap and shower slippers. The floor is locked and your room is locked. Hardware screen for a ceiling to make the HVAC common to all 80 cells and it works well. A number of students with backpacks giving it a hostel feel, though the lower floors have the same design though much older and occupied by local Chinese. Apparently the design is a tenament style housing for single men. Very interesting. Unusual value for Manhattan. Safe. Don't go for the view.
It wasn't that bad. Don't expect the Ritz, its a hostel. They cleaned it everyday and there weren't bugs. It's a small room, but it's a single. It is loud and bright but earplugs and eyemask worked fine. They keep the windows open so it can get drafty but keeps it from getting too smelly. There are shared bathrooms but aside from early in morning it was never a problem. And there is NO elevator so your legs get a workout. But staff was great, at $44 a night for 5 nights there's not a cheaper way to stay in Manhattan, you're in heart of Chinatown and Little Italy, lots of culture and super cheap shopping. I'd stay there again.
Nothing no elevator On constructing For one sentence, This is not a HOTEL Backpackers is better than this
Just position and price are good. clean in room and very very small
Nothing at all. Single thin mattress on wood platform. Room in 6' wide with no ceiling, just chicken wire. Three common bathrooms per floor are disgusting. Rotting ceilings in number of areas. No elevator. Drug addicts and hookers walking round. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!'
The bed was horribly uncomfortable, creaked everytime you moved. Staff, unfriendly n unhelpful Bad
Proximity to china town It's worst Hotel which I have come across in my life and it's zero return for money. The rooms were extremely small with roof top open, you cannot speak to anyone being in room. Bathrooms were extremely dirty and wet and no soaps, showers were extremely slow. No Toilet papers, common bathrooms are many but all are occupied cause they have 55 rooms on same floor. Which are shared by everyone. I will never recommend an individual for this room. But the guy at reception was very good. Around the street I came across two guys who have done the booking for same Hotel but at mid-night 2:30 am they were denied room as their Room was given to someone else. So overall extremely poor hotel, without any facilities, open roofs (there's iron mesh which is roof of some 55 rooms) but can be good for students who cannot afford more money from china:-)
i got to help out a friend in need. This place was just bad. Bed beds. Public washroom. No tv. No windows. Rude staff. Dirty. Do not book a room here unless it's your last choice and you're totally broke. I could have pocketed the cash and gotten better sleep in my car and cleaner with a packet of baby wipes. The staff was so rude I think they may have been on work release from jail. I didn't even want to shower it was so gross. I think the rest of the hotel guests may have been on meth they seemed content. For $100.00 bucks it was not money well spent. STAY AWAY.
