Pros: Lovely comfortable family home feel..lovely hosts...very welcoming..would definitely stay again..we had our small dog with us which is important for us to be able to travel with her
Pros: We had the most wonderful experience staying with Melanie and Martin. Both are charming and very welcoming, interesting hosts. From the moment of our arrival we were made to feel at home. The property is beautiful, very well appointed and in a great location. Beds are comfortable, towels fluffy, bathrooms elegant and stylish. Breakfast is delicious and locally sourced with homemade jam and possibly the best scrambled eggs we have ever tasted. Rooms have wonderful views over the Somerset countryside but the house is only a short walk from Castle Cary with a good range of pubs and pretty shops. Martin graciously offers a personal taxi service to guests which made trips to local attractions or pubs in nearby villages effortless for visitors without a car. This makes Ellesmere House the perfect getaway from London as well as a great holiday destination. There is much to see in the area from the recent very exciting Newt to Glastonbury and so much inbetween. We are already planning our next visit. Highly recommended!
Cons: It was perfect, nothing not to like!
Pros: It’s location, decor, attention to detail and the welcome we received.
Cons: We liked everything about it.
Pros: Hosts were amazing, possibly the most helpful I've ever encountered. Breakfast was divine - so much choice and it was delicious! The bedroom was comfortable and felt like a home from home. Not a problem for us, just to note the en-suite for our room was actually across the corridor.
Pros: Martin and Melanie were excellent hosts and made us feel right at home. They also went above and beyond with their taxi service!
Pros: Beautiful house and setting. Very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was lovely as well
Pros: Very friendly and interesting hosts. Excellent breakfast and comfortable room.
Pros: Helpful, friendly hosts.
Pros: Lovely room, great views. Amazing breakfast in the morning! Melanie & Martin went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after.
Pros: Melanie & Martin were fabulous hosts and welcoming us into their home. Very helpful and wealth of knowledge of the area, with some great recommendations so we will be back to explore more.
Cons: Shared bathroom, however when we stayed we were the only guests on the top floor so it did not affect us.
Pros: Really welcoming family atmosphere and hospitality - thank you so much for having me stay! Absolutely perfect.
Pros: Immaculate! Wish I'd stayed here for longer.
Pros: The usual host was away for the weekend but her friend Bozena did an amazing Job of looking after us. She greeted us when we arrived late after getting stuck in traffic and helped us settle into our very comfy room and communal lounge. She brought up some snacks for us as well as providing tea and wine. Over a delicious breakfast she offered to pick us up from the wedding we attended to save us a taxi fare. She even left us out water, bananas and croissants incase we were not feeling great for our drive home the next day. The house was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable but it was Bozena who made our stay amazing.
Cons: I cant think of anything.
Pros: Very comfortable bed and loved the White Company bedding
Pros: Everything, from the hosts' delightful hospitality and most accommodating nature, to the wonderful room with new en suite bathroom and comfiest of beds, to the overwhelmingly delicious breakfasts, to the two beautiful, friendly pups, to peacefully sipping coffee in the morning sunshine while listening to birdsong in the garden, to the proximity of the pub, restaurants, and several local attractions, and to that genuine feeling like no other of being made to feel perfectly at home. Frances and Julian, thank you so much!
Cons: Having to leave.
Pros: Quiet location, clean, tidy, lovely home, comfortable bed, very welcoming and friendly, excellent breakfast
Pros: I had booked this one-night stay as a restful start to a week-long training for work nearby. It couldn't have been more wonderful. I could just feel myself relax as I stepped into the house - it's beautiful, peaceful and I felt really well looked after by Frances from start to finish. The house is like a sanctuary; the garden so lush and peaceful. I would definitely book this again, and for longer too.
Pros: Super cosey, welcoming & relaxed.
Pros: Breakfast was amazing - homemade granola, fresh berries, lovely nutty toast, eggs however we wanted them and the full English works. Homemade fresh lemonade. Great coffee. Tasteful and delicious. Frances and Julian are delightful - made us feel completely at ease and no awks. Left us to just get on and come and go as we pleased. Avalon House is gorgeous - spotless, light-filled, beautifully appointed, comfortable, great beds, bathroom and linen (White Co). Will defs stay again if we're in the area.
Cons: Nothing. No improvement needed!
Pros: The accommodation, the room, the peace and quiet. The village of Castle Cary.
Located in Wincanton, The Willows Bed & Breakfast is within a 15-minute drive of Haynes International Motor Museum and Cadbury Castle. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good breakfast friendly owner.
Pros: The freedom use the 'communal' kitchen to use bowls etc to make your own toast and breakfast etc, and the little 'put up' table in the bedroom to eat breakfast, the peace and quiet was so good :-), liked the freedom we were left alone but with the owner next door if we needed anything, and that we saw no pets!
Pros: It was clean and comfortable very pleasant stay.
Pros: The wildlife outside the window. Easy to find. Safe parking. Kitchen facilities.
Pros: our decision was not to take up the breakfast but what i smelt i would have enjoyed i fill sure
Cons: only that the t.v was straight on the wall
Pros: Nice and quiet
Cons: Finding somewhere to eat on a Sunday
Pros: The owners are very friendly and helpful. I much prefer the quiet location of this property, to nearby chain hotels.
Cons: They met all my needs, nothing further needed.
Pros: The hosts were most welcoming on arrival and throughout our stay . Our room was most comfortable, and had everything we needed. It was a lovely peaceful setting for a good nights sleep , despite being just off the road. There was ample car parking and also a good selection was offered for breakfast . Our two small dogs were made most welcome too :-)
Cons: Absolutely nothing .
Pros: perfect location for us wanting a stop-over near the A303. Very good local pub for an evening meal.
Located in Bruton, Turks Hall is a 2-minute drive from Hauser and Wirth Somerset and 9 minutes from Royal Bath and West Showground.
Pros: The owners are very nice and friendly. Breakfast they provided was excellent.
Pros: Fantastic hospitality and genuine warm welcome.
Pros: Caroline was a lovely host!
Pros: So friendly, perfect room, many extra little touches, breakfast was excellent!
Pros: The hospitality was perfect. Our hosts went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Breakfast delicious and mostly homemade local produce. Lovely bathroom with large tub.
Pros: Caroline is an amazing host and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, inviting to us a pot of tea or coffee in the living room, to enjoy with some homemade flapjack. The double bedroom was lovely, the bed super comfy and sheets very soft. Further flapjack awaited us in the room as well as a glass of sherry. Breakfast was delightful. Great location for Bruton, ask Caroline if you need any tips on restaurants or local places to visit!
Pros: Caroline & David were most welcoming & let us check in earlier as we had a wedding to attend, Caroline's flatjack was the best according to my partner, even offered to lend me a wrap for the wedding & the cooked breakfast was amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Even took some pictures of us all dressed up before we left the property, gave us helpful information about parking & taxis, would definitely recommend this property to anyone staying in the region.
Pros: Excellent B&B Very warm welcome, attentive hosts without being intrusive. Clean and comfortable Good communication prior to arrival Room had working WiFi, tv, tea making facilities and even a welcoming glass of sherry! Breakfast was excellent and served at a time agreed the evening before. Muesli, fresh juice, and cooked breakfast were all available. Train station and all towns main sites are within walking distance.
Cons: Parking is in public parking areas nearby, however, they will advise as to the best places to try. I think it unlikely that parking would ever be more than a couple of minutes walk away. The rooms are upstairs so would not be suitable for those with mobility issues Bear in mind this is a B&B and their home, so don’t expect clinical anonymity of a chain hotel or lodge.
Pros: Caroline & David are lovely, warm hosts. They made me feel at home as soon as I arrived. Lovely, comfortable en suite room.. highly recommended!
Pros: Had a fantastic stay! The room was really lovely, spacious yet cosy, and the owners are extremely accommodating and helpful! Great breakfast as well. Would stay there again.
When you stay at The Hunter's Lodge Inn in Wincanton, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Stourhead Garden and Stourhead. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Friendly, lovely food, nice room, great breakfast.
Cons: WiFi didn't work in rooms. As there is zero phone signal on EE or O2 I was left incommunicado. No shower tray mat, slippy.
Pros: The staff were very friendly . Rooms were a good size and clean. There was plenty of outdoor space to sit down and relax .
Cons: I asked for our rooms to be near each other and when we got there we were told they were in 2 different separate buildings and couldn't have been further apart. The free WiFi advertised was non existent in the rooms . In today's day and age you would think they would invest in WiFi boosters . If not don't advertise free WiFi.
Pros: Staff were friendly, room was comfortable and the food was delicious and good value for money.
Cons: The room had patio doors onto the outside seating area which everyone could look into our room, not very private.
Pros: Spacious room separate from the bar/restaurant, convenience of the restaurant next door for dinner, ample parking. Staff at the restaurant were friendly and the food was good.
Cons: No wifi in the room, check-in is via the bar/restaurant and it takes a while to be attended during busy times.
Pros: Warm welcome, even though very late. Great breakfast. I would have liked to stay here a bit longer but on business !!!
Pros: Third time we have stayed in the property now and have never been disappointed. Lovely rooms, great food and friendly staff. Was my daughters third birthday and they happily brought out a birthday cake for her after our meal, made my daughters day
Cons: Nothing, everything was great
Pros: Convenient location and food very good
Cons: Nothing really
Cons: Internet, WiFi, phone signal weak
Pros: Amazing staff and great food, with incredible facilities for kids.
Pros: Great to keep children occupied
Cons: Really good place for children the only small negative for me was the room I was in was right next to a drinking area so I could hear people talking but wasn't a real problem as grand children and daughter were in a nice quiet spot
Pros: Lovely friendly hosts. Superb setting and facilities. Can't wait to go back!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!
Pros: I’m not felt so welcome or so relaxed :)
Pros: It would be downright contrary not to like a place whose hosts make you feel so special. The attention to detail and the small considerations are exceptional: pretty vases of wonderfully fragrant flowers in each shed; daily-changing breakfasts of serious home-made deliciousness (compôte of peaches poached in Sauternes?). On top of that, Caroline and Luke are naturally welcoming people, full of conversation, information and recommendations. And the view is lovely, the shower hot. If solitude's what you're after, you'll find it here. Should you forget reading matter, no matter - there's a mini-library that includes much John Steinbeck - the great man lived in the adjacent cottage for several months while researching the legend of King Arthur. A wonderful, original B&B.
Cons: The weather: we coincided with the end of the heatwave (July '18). Caroline and Luke did their best to stop the storms, but even their magic was not powerful enough!
Pros: We had a lovely weekend stay at Discove Cottage. Beautifully fitted out Shepherds huts combine luxury and comfort with the restorative 'out-doorsness' of camping but with none of the downsides. Add in really delicious home-cooked food, the heavenly peace of the this unique (and literary) location, and the wonderful hosts Caroline and Luke - I simply can't recommend this stay highly enough.
Pros: Wonderful place to stay! Wonderful helpful hosts. Fantastic breakfast and superb location. Thoroughly recommended.
Cons: Nothing could have been better
With a stay at The George Hotel in Castle Cary, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Haynes International Motor Museum and Royal Bath and West Showground.
Pros: Warm welcome and really cosy place. Breakfast was not only delicious but also the choice was impressive.
Cons: Information how to get there from the train station.
Cons: Even though I have had paid the hotel when booking online, staff told me on check out, that it wasn't. Now I have paid twice for this hotel. Once online and once on check out.
Pros: Adequate breakfast for someone on a plant based - (vegan) diet. I had my own soya milk so do not know if the hotel provides any.
Pros: Was a lovely old hotel with sloping floors and a great pub area. Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: The parking area was small and inadequate. You are better off parking on the road nearby.
Pros: Had a lovely stay at The George at the top and tail ends of Glastonbury. Perfect sized room for 3, very clean and friendly and attentive staff. The food was also superb.
Cons: Nothing - all great.
Pros: Lovely old character room, very comfy bed and clean and welcoming. Very quiet in the room too considering a pub/restaurant underneath.
Cons: Shower head needs replacing, free toiletries very basic and underwhelming, no biscuits. Couldn’t get tv to work, but could be just me and wasn’t too bothered so didn’t report it.
Pros: All good.
Cons: Nothing that comes to mind.
Pros: The staff were all really friendly and helpful.
Cons: The bathroom was a bit basic and the extractor fan was very noisy but this was absolutely fine.
Cons: Needs upgrading
Pros: Staff great, food great, drinks great, location great
Cons: Could do with blinds or better curtains as the rooms got very light around 5am when the sun came up.
Pros: Could not fault the service and we had a wonderful stay and will be back again.

Pros: quiet comfortable room, very spacious, nicely decorated, modern facilities
Cons: food was very basic, room was expensive compared to other hotels in the area
Pros: Very helpful staff. Homely atmosphere.
Cons: Duvet on the bed & inadequate pillows (as in many hotels. The bed and it's comfort is the main requirement at a hotel)
