The grounds are beautiful and welcoming and the buildings are well restored historic buildings, particularly the barn. Our room was lovely with the exposed original stone wall of the barn as one wall. I found the bed to be extremely comfortably - very firm mattress. The room was quiet, not too much bleed in noise from other guests (and I'm a fairly light sleeper). We were able to visit with local friends on the side covered seating area that is separate from the dining room. Great area with tons to do and see within 1/2-3/4 hr drive. Our room was on the second floor of the barn, over the restaurant (stairs to it inside the dining room). My ONLY complaint for the establishment was that we had to walk past diners enjoying their meal to get to our room. With regard to the area...VERY congested traffic, allow time to get around. I'm from the area but moved 25 yrs ago and it is soooooo different now.
It was very clean, warm and cozy. We felt safe and like we were at our grandparents house. It was very lovely.
The location in the charming town of Frenchtown was great. The overall look of the room and the public spaces was sophisticated and comfortable. Attention to a few details would have boosted my rating to excellent. The towels were ok, the window coverings in my room did not operate and were a bit weather beaten and I get it, it's an old hotel but replacing the 10x10 block of wood under the radiator in the bathroom with even a 3x3 block of wood would have made a difference aesthetically. As a solo traveler I would have like to see a lock on the window that opened on to a deck.
