the beach hotel really old need update .
We have gone to this location for 4 years. Love the location and private beach and especially the staff. Best kept secret. Not a huge beach for walking as it is tucked away. We like that. Others might not. Could improve the menu offerings on the beach and lobby bar for happy hour. Elevators were under construction which made it hard as there are many stairs.
The room, the view, the restaurant, the st.aff were all wonderful. We arrived at 12:30, told our room would be ready at 1:00 but at 1:00 we were told that was a mistake and our room wouldn't be ready until 4:00. That was an inconvenience.
We liked the clean, roomy, very up to date style room. Wonderful balcony that overlooked the ocean. The bellmen were always right there to assist us with cabs. Very courtesy staff. We did not like the high prices for food and drinks. Very expensive.
It had its own private beach, a pool with a beautiful view, and amazing restaurants! The staff was very friendly and were always helping with simple things such as carrying out bags and opening car doors. Every room in the hotel has an amazing view of the beach. I reccomend staying here if you need a couple days or week to just relax its amazing. It's a lot of walking, there was only one elevator in the entire resort, and the resort is huge! We were traveling with a 3 year old which meant holding him while we walked up and down stairs.
The facilities. The food was just ok. Hotel was a bit far from the rest of the town.
Rooms are modern and comfortable. Bathrooms are well stocked with towels, shampoo, conditioners, etc..
Excellent weather, very nice people, clean beaches and sea
the staff was great! the A/C was not very cold.
The price was excellent and the upgrade was much appreciated. The staff were all friendly, and very helpful. When the air conditioning in the first room did not work we were able to change rooms with no problem. There were no balconies, even though it stated in the on-line descriptions of the hotel that they did have balconies; the poor to no internet connection; the one and only ice machine available was not functioning; the limited television programs available were mostly in Spanish.
used restaurant- good service, good food, used swimming pool- staff could be faster with cleaning leftover food because of the birds just waiting for their turn to eat and making mess everywhere, Internet not working well, we asked for someone to come to our room and check it out because we were loosing connection every 5 minutes, a maintenance man came but nothing has been done
The hotel is ideally situated close to shops and restaurants with the beach directly on your doorstep. The open lobby is particulary impressive. The room was clean, tidy, a good size and had a lovely ocean view. The previous occupants of our room took the safe key with them, staff told us this would be replaced but was not so we could not use the safe for the duration of our stay. Music from both the hotel lobby and the nearby hotel outdoor entertainment was very loud and on one occasion went on quite late (after 1pm) which is not suitable for families.
The size of the room and the ease of access to the beach
I was at the Emporio Ixtapa for 10 days. It is an excellent value and I would happily return. Although it is a bit dated, i.e. manual key for mini bar and safe, the layout and room sizes are good. The indoor-outdoor lounge areas are attractive and spacious. The Hotel was apparently a Hilton originally. There are both taxi and public transportation stops immediately in front of the hotel and the Ixtapa town restaurants and amenities are across the street. The pool is large and there is a lifeguard at the beach. The hotel also participates in the program to re-populate the sea turtle population and has its own protected area for the safety of the developing eggs. Weddings are common at the Emporio, particularly on week-ends. If your room is on the side where the events take place, the noise factor is significant. Unfortunately, most of the water view rooms are impacted. There are many families with children who stay at the Hotel.
Wish I had known there was going to be a coffee maker and microwave, along with dishes and a kitchen sink. But it was still very handy to have it. I liked the Emporio better than Krystal or Fontan. There was no balcony on our room, which I thought was unusual, but I'd wouldn't have traded the kitchenette for a balcony, so I was very satisfied.
no children allowed, pricey but nice for the honeymoon couple
There seem to be 3 eras of construction - 1950s motel looking 2-story, 80's 1-2 story Spanish adobe with bright yellow interiors, and new modern spacious rooms with light neutral tones. We got the more modern and really enjoyed it - large, nice bathroom, pretty tile and stone work, nice private pool in front of sliding doors that the bed faced and small very private patio. Beach front and beach furnitue were nice. Service was nice - helpful, but not pushy or in your way. But, overall upkeep was 'okay' and staffing and amenities were slim. Couldn't ever find a towel on the beach or at the pool. Pools were small. Beach front wasn't raked regularly (and needed it). Products in the bath were of poor quality and had an offensive perfume smell. Felt nickle-d and dimed for water - a no name brand for $5. Food was of superior quality. But, food prices were outrageous! 'Spa' only offers nail services and massages, no lockers or way to spend the day. Taxi into town was cheap, quick, and convenient. I was reminded every morning that we weren't on the breakfast included plan. Even though we spent $50+ for breakfast each morning, this statement made me feel second class, when heard repeatedly. This hotel is known by the locals as being 'the best' or 'the nicest', so I sometimes felt like it was assumed that we should pay more and, at times, were charged more. I didn't feel like the price differential was worth it, nor did it live up to the raves seen here and other travel guidebooks and ratings. Definitely not in the category of a Four Seasons or Ritz or other premiere hotel brand.
The room was beautiful and the landscaping gorgeous. The Viceroy sits on a prime piece of beach real estate with a spectacular view of the bay. The food at the hotel restaurant however is average and the prices astronomically high. For example $62 for a surf and turf meal for one, without beverages. Upon departure from the hotel we were apprized of an additional 10% service charge per day for grounds keeping. I recommend eating elsewhere, you'll save a bundle and have a much better experience. Thursday night in Zihuatenejo is Pozole night throughout the village and I recommend visiting the Santa Prisca restaurant. Visit the Coconuts restaurant, El Mediterraneo, and save some money for an evening at Tentaciones. Use the buses and taxis to get around they're much cheaper than Renting a car and equally as accessible. Take a sunset cruise on the catamaran Picante. Book your excursions in advance yourself on the Internet You'll save money time and patience from dealing with undependable tour guides.
We were looking for a small comfortable hotel on the beach with good service and food and we got exactly what we were looking for and more. The staff were all very polite, efficient and courteous. Our beach side room was perfect with our only small gripe being that the bed was not very comfortable. The location is beautiful with lovely views that I never tired of. The adults only infinity pool was kept at a perfect temperature and with a no kids it was a great place to have a drink and relax. My wife and I would certainly return.
Villa Del Sol is a great spot to head if you want to be waited on hand and foot. Service, food and grounds are A-1. Keep in mind this is a 5 star resort and the prices reflect that.'
From the second I stepped onto their property, I was treated like a queen! Anything I needed, questions, they were there for me. I noticed they treated every single person like they were queens and kings. If you don't go, you will miss the best place on earth. I am 100% going to return in 2009. I'm already doing research for the best vacation packages. See you there!!!
Fantastic friendly service and beautiful beach. If I were rich Id go every year. The meal plan is the best way to go for a late breakfast and dinner.Well worth it because the food is great. We saved by going to the little store down the beach and buying beer there. At the tides they are $* each. Our room was wonderful and very cllean. The lagoon and all the lush plants make this resort so pretty.
The staff and ground at this hotel are absolutely incredible. The beach was well kept and their dine anywhere policy was very nice. I agree with other posters about the prices (a bit high in comparison to other locations). We took advantage of the spa and enjoyed a massage on the beach - truly incredible. Pro: Service was prompt and friendly. Put plainly it was the best we have ever enjoyed at a hotel. Everyone spoke English and was eager to help me learn bits of Spanish. Grounds were beautiful with flowers everywhere. Mixed drinks were great and the selection was incredible (150 different types of tequila?!). Finally the beach... raked each day with the perfect mix of palms and lounge chairs. The staff would stealthily set up a dining table directly behind your lounge chair whenever you requested a menu. Cons: The bed was one of those NASA foam things (not very comfortable for a whimp like me used to sleeping on a pillow top). There were some frogs in the lagoon that kept us up with their singing (stay was during mid June). Initially locating the place was difficult (small sign and lack of decent map/directions). As with any hotel, the cost of meals and drink was high. Finally the morning coffee was terrible as it was instant. I'd recommend walking to the open air bar to order an espresso with some hot water. Recommendation: Enjoy a massage on the beach! Enjoy dinner on the beach (a great romantic setting with tiki torches. Finally - Rent a car and see the town. There were some incredible restaurants around the small fish market and the weekend festivals were great to see.
The Tides is an amazing place to stay. Can't say enough about the service, the accomodations, the pool, the beach...the list goes on. My wife and I came to celebrate our 1st anniversary with another couple and we were not disappointed. The staff catered to our every need and always went well beyond our expectations. You have to try the Sense of the Night dinner where you're served dinner on the beach at low tables surrounded by candles, relaxing music and a bonfire...it was awesome! A word of advice - go to the Comercial Mexicana which is $3 cab ride away and stock up on essentials like water, alcohol and snacks and these can be a bit pricey at The Tides. Great restaurants off site - La Perla is a good for an inexpensive lunch/dinner right down the beach from The Tides, Caprichios in Zihua has awesome burgers, Bandidos in Zihua good lunch and evening bar scene, Casa Bahia overlooks Zihua Bay and has fantastic views, try the tuna steak. Beccofinos in on the pier in Ixtapa is a bit pricey but has great Italian I would definitely recommend taking the sunset catamaran cruise that The Tides can arrange for you. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Great views, open bar and more quaint and romantic that your usual 'booze cruise'. I loved sitting in the nets in front of the catamaran just relaxing away (don't worry you don't get wet). Also if you're a cigar fan like me, the Cubans are easily accessible all over Zihua. Overall I had a fantastic time at The Tides and in Zihua. Definitely one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever been on.
It was my fiance's 40th birthday so we wanted to travel somewhere nice and relaxing. I searched the internet and found The Tides...based on the pictures, this was the place. We actually weren't expecting it to look as good as the pictures we'd seen, but it turned out it was even more beautiful in person--it is amazing. You feel like you are in paradise. We had a Lagoon Suite with our own private infinity plunge pool that was less than a minute walk from the gorgeous beach...and since it was the off-season, it was almost like having the place to ourselves. The suite was fabulous, the main infinity pool was fabulous (and for adults only!) and the service was fabulous. There were a few teenagers and smaller children, but for the most part, the guests were all adults, which we also found very, very nice. The only downside was the cost of the food and drinks at the resort itself; however, there are many restaurants along the beach in either direction from the resort--you literally never need to leave Playa La Ropa. Plus, the cab ride to downtown Zihua is only a few dollars. The resort even offers free Wi-Fi which was very nice! I have never had so much fun and cannot wait to go back. We were planning to have our destination wedding next spring in the Caribbean, but now I think it's a distinct possibility that it will now be at The Tides.
For a description of the Tides Zihuatanejo, look under PERFECTION in the dictionary. Beach, service, rooms, amenities, food, ambience, etc. We were so grateful for the online company offering a vacation package there. I am ambivalent about writing a rave review of this hotel, because I want it to stay quiet and available, but do want it to continue to be successful. From the hanging king-size beds beachfront, to the plunge pools, to the plasma TVs with DVD players, you will think you are in Mexican heaven.
An extremely warm and inviting boutique style hotel. Great rooms, great food. Fun to lay all day under the palpas and order room service. Not for the faint of wallet though. It is pricey. Food was great as noted, but expensive. However you could walk down the beach and get a good meal also. Hotel room was awesome. We stayed in a Beach Suite right by the main pool. Service was good and the best part was the coffee they brought every morning fresh with pastries. We did have some left over food in the room however that got consumed by some smaller four legged friends, but we never caught them in the act. Note Area activities (i.e. snorkeling, scuba, tours) should be done off hotel grounds as they are marked up significantly at the Hotel. Definetly will return. Best vacation to date.
My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in April '09. It was too pricy for us by my wife works for an airline and we got 50% off. Brand new hotel. Beautiful, oustanding service. Each room has it's own plunge pool. Very private. On a cliff. No swimming beach but they will give you bikes to ride down the hill to a public beach. Otherwise a 5 minute cab ride to Ixtapa or 30 minutes to Zihuatanejo. We stayed just before the swine flu epidemic made news. Of the 59 rooms only about 10 were full when we were there. Had the whole place to ourselves. The economy was really hurting the tourism there. Every night there was a small bucket of Coronas and chips and salsa in the room as a warm up for dinner. Staff would do anything to make your stay the best it could be. Beware you will be charged 10% gratutiy and another 18% taxes on top of the room rate. I assume this is common in Mexico at 5-star hotels. Two very nice negative edge pools on the property as well as a fitness center. We would definitely stay here again if we go back down to Ixtapa.
If you want to lose all your money this is the resort to come to. To start, our room 2027 was extremely dirty. When we first arrived there was puke in our toilet already, and it appeared to not have been cleaned at all since the last guests. Also there was a trail of drips coming into our room from the room above ours that honestly looked like dried blood and there was a LOT of it. We mentioned it during our stay but it was never cleaned. Also my boyfriend was robbed 220 USD. The strange thing is is it seemed as if the person who took it knew exactly where to look because nothing else was missing only cash right from his wallet, his bag was even zipped back up. I do NOT trust the employees they barely spoke any english or at least pretended not to and would not do anything about the stolen cash. Also i showed security that i could break into our own room just by slipping the card between the door and lock so it was THEIR responsibility and liability that it was taken. The head of security informed us that they would deal with it before we left and when we confronted him the next morning he said we had never showed him that we could break in and our door was faulty so the staff was extremely sketchy and i felt unsafe the whole trip. Also NO variety of food. Same nasty food every day and room service knew NO english. Got our order wrong every time. My boyfriend hates sour cream and the last time we ordered room service he said 5 different times please no sour cream and they still put it on there, with extra on the side too. HORRIBLE service, horrible staff, and you WILL get robbed.
Good tourist class hotel with friendly staff. Clean public spaces and rooms. Food is the only dissapointment; but many good restaurant choices across the street in the plazas. Room maintenance issue was quickly resolved. Been there five years in a row and keep going back.
We stayed here just one night because we were not starting our timeshare until Saturday. We had so much more fun here in one night that the whole week at the time share. Great swim up bar, friendly staff, fun activities and great weather. It is just a great place to stay.
Loved staying here. It is a family based hotel, so expect family hours. Pool bar closed at 6PM. not a huge resort, but a few high quality restaurants. Better than most resorts I haves stayed at in Mexico.
We have stay at this hotel at least a dozen times and we will continue to come back. They have great staff and an outstandingcaring general manager.
We could see the improvements made from last year with the all inclusive restaurants. The food is very good. Service around the pool is second to none. Allehandro was our waiter all week. We seldom had an empty glass... except when they ran ran out of beer 3 times! Remember folks with all of us from the midwest.. especially Wisconsin we're a bunch of beer fans.. as opposed to Bear fans! lol The pool staff really makes your day around there. Alberto, Himer, Lisbeth, and Bianca keep everyone entertained and brighten your day. Hope to be fortunate enough to return next year!
The hotel was very nosiey, dirty elevators and the food was vengeful. Especially the 'kosher' turkey/bacon. The room had a nice view, and was cleaned well. Typical problems at checkout with extra charges.
We really enjoyed the hotel. The service was always friendly and responsive. We were surprised that we did enjoy the food, mostly appetizers, breakfast and lunch at the hotel. They did a wonderful job of preparing the fish that was caught on our fishing trip .We knew we would be back when we were checking out. We were there for a week and met so many guests that had been going back for years.
I would recommend this hotel. People are very pleasent. It was peaceful, great for just relaxing.
We had a wonderful time in Ixtapa where we stayed at the Dorado Pacifica. We went with friends who were returning for the seventh time. My husband and I understood why our friends keep going back to the same hotel. It was situated in the middle of the Ixtapa hotels along the ocean and across from the market and restraurant area. The staff of the Dorado Pacifica were very personable. The restaurant and bell staff greeted us like old friends. The rooms were comfortable and the pool area was great. We joined the bocce ball games, watch water volleyball and other activities. I recommend the Dorado Pacifica to new visitors to Ixtapa and to old visitors if they aren't staying there already.
Although we are not fans of the A/I format, it was better than we expected. There was no problem getting any drink and most foods requested. The food was generally very good but did get a little tiresome after 2 weeks but there are still the excellent restaurants nearby. We just hope they will be able to survive with so many hotels going A/I. We probably would go back as we love the Dorado, especially their staff, Felipe, Jorge, Saul, Antonio and so many others. Our only concern would be the A/I. We would like to have a choice or maybe just A/I breakfast.
All of the staff are friendly and efficient. Our 2 rooms were ready when we arrived. The lobby is open and attractive. Our rooms were not luxurious, but were nicely furnished and sufficiently spacious, with small, but comfortable balconies with ocean-view. It was only a little disorienting that our pool view was of the hotel next door, and our wi-fi connected us through that hotel's system. The washrooms are large and attractive with a large, really nice floor to ceiling shower enclosure. The pool is great, with a consistent 4 ft. depth. At one end, one can swim to the bar, where the depth becomes shallow, so that you can have a beverage while staying in the pool. The only 2 drawbacks are that, in Aug., the heat and humidity are intense, and the upstairs corridors are all glass-enclosed and not air-conditioned. Just by going from our room to the lobby downstairs, I was sweating so profusely that I could have easily returned to the room to shower again. The other negative is the food service. The restaurants and bars are attractive, but the food is expensive and low in quality and quantity. We rarely drink, but decided to have one cocktail each. The Bloody Mary, which is not a difficult drink to make, was awful. The beach is beautiful to look at, but the waves are strong and rough in this area, and hardly anyone entered the water. However, overall, this hotel was a delightful experience for a group of five people, ranging in ages from 74 to 1 yr. old. We highly recommend this hotel, but strongly suggest that you eat and drink elsewhere, and go to a beach in nearby Zihuatanejo, such as La Playa de las Gatas or La Playa de la Ropa, where the water is tranquil in a beautiful bay setting.
We've been in La Casa que Canta twice. Both for our anniversaries. We plan to visit it every year. One of the best hotels in the world, with the best service and the best food. Even though the beach is just 50 steps away you have a perfect view to the sea, the waves crash into the rock cliff amazingly. By far it is the best restaurant in Zihuatanejo (if you're not staying there, you should make reservation to have dinner). it has two amazing pools (one with a view to the bay and the other one with salty sea water), great to relax. Zihuatanejo is just 10 minutes away. It is a beautiful Mexican town with great tacos, restaurants, shops and bars. Safe place to spend vacations, safe place to travel, safe place to go with friends, family or for a romantic escapade.
Quiet during the week but very busy on weekend with local guests. Many families. The hotel rooms have a mold problem that affected both my husband and my lungs. Nietyher of us have serious lung health issues but if we did this would be a big problem. The ceiling in our bathroom had visible mold. We stayed in two separate rooms, both smelled moldy. Our friends also talked about mold smell in their rooms. The beds are unusually hard and had rubber mattress protectors that were very uncomfortable. Beds need upgrading.
I liked the attention, cause first when i arrived they gave me a room where the a/c was not working ok! but they immediately changed me the room without any problem! I think they should have a little more food variety, but ok!
great staff, great pool, great location, good food they allow smoking in the restaurant by the pool and there were many heavy smokers - ruined the experience of dining in the lovely restaurant; they should ban smoking in all restaurants and in the lobby as well.
staff was very friendly, food was ok,room was very clean and good for mexico.
Loved the beach and location. Also most of the staff were very nice and helpful. Showers were huge and very nice. Taxis from the airport cost like $40 but should cost maybe $20. Ocean view=barely if any ocean view. Food mostly verrry mediocre/gross. Rooms very uncomfortable. Plastic over matress makes you sweat. No wifi in the rooms. Just when your outside. Other all inclusives ive been to have ppl bring you drinks. Here you had to keep getting up to get them.
Location and staff No elevator.
The staff is fantastic, professional and so friendly. And the place is well run, no complaints there. Good food too! Ok, so I get it, people booking through aggregators are not their ideal customer, so no wonder they put you in their worst room. But I can still review them based on that room, which honestly, no one should ever be put in, AC compressors running all night long on the other side of the wall. The room we were moved to the next day after complaining was better, but still quite noisy (laundry starts up at 8am). If you like quiet, this is not the place for you, unless you can get one of their better rooms. Cleanliness was to mexican standards. No problem for me, I'm used to it, but in my opinion quite shoddy for the price paid, I would expect resort level spit and shine for 77 bucks USD a night.
You can walk to the beach, town and restaurants. The view was beautiful. The staff was friendly and professional. The hotel needs a facelift. My air conditioner quit and I had to move to another room. One day only hot water in the shower. Hair dryer smelled like it was on the verge of burning up. All problems handled promptly, but should not be happening. Everything a little dated.
On the strip in ixtapa The outside and sign have been updated. The hotel on the inside has not since the 80s. Room looked like it really needed remodeling. Elevator would not work if more than 4 adults were in it. You have to press button for doors to close. It felt unstable.
very nice staff and a perfect location room maintenance could be a bit better, at my room the bathroom was a bit worn.
This is a very warm and friendly hotel, with excellent location and facilities.
The rooms were clean, the hotel is well located. But the staff at the reception is very slow in the check in and check out, they are not very helpful or nice, I can even call the a little rude. The people at the reception must be more serviceable, pleasant and helpful
I liked the beach, the localization and the kindness of the hotel staff Room cleaning more quick and less night noise.
room was clean hotel is showing it's age. No handle on sliding door on outside to come into room from veranda. No comfortable chair in room. Faucets in wash basin leak and hard to close. Towels seem old and rough.
the people good guest service excellant location room price eating on the hotel grounds is over priced for the quality of the food standard rooms are showing there age i belive i paid about half regular price so it was allright
We got a really good deal at the Krystal so it was worth the money. The view was excellent from the balcony. The pool was nice. Very clean. Staff was friendly. Excellent location close to restaurants and shopping. Beware of items being charged to your credit card. Keep receipts. Air conditioner and toilet leaked a bit but no big deal. Food and drinks at the hotel a little high. Beach was a little rough but clean.
Wonderful, friendly and helpful service from everyone there: especially Carlos, Martin, Jesus and Miguel. If your Spanish isn't great (mine certainly isn't), that is not a problem; their English is very good. The hotel is a little bit of heaven: only 30 rooms but with a good restaurant, bar with a great view over the bay, lush landscaping, lovely pool (with wait staff) plus the hotel is right on the beach. There's even a spa for massages, mani pedi etc. If you like excellent service in a small hotel with unbelievable value in an authentic Mexican fishing town (warts and all) that has lots of very good restaurants (from basic, inexpensive Mexican to fancy expensive international) this is the spot for you. If you want a huge, flashy, sterile hotel with lots of nightlife, multiple pools and lots of people eating and drinking all they can, then please go to Cancun. No complaints, but If I had to pick something it would be the spotty wifi. That being said, I went to relax not to surf the Internet or spend time on facebook
perfect location very good staff service exelent reception service nice evening enterteinment shows , dance contest karaoke etc too many kids (hotel policy) children under 8 unlimited ? stay free even worst the lobby bar //////////// adult only ////////// serves no alcohol drinks to children on late hours
