Stylish Little Pension in Palermo
This is a very good little ground-floor pension: just four rooms, 2.5 shared baths, shared kitchen, shared living/dining room, all around a small central open patio. Stylish old-world place with very high ceilings. WiFi always worked reliably my 6 days there. Staff (essentially a friendly young Argentine guy) was super helpful with many things, above and beyond the usual "where's this, where's that". Tons of trendy restaurants and shops are just a few blocks away. Area is as safe as any here. Subway stop also just a few blocks away, and then half a dozen stations to downtown. Very accommodating. I would stay again.
In some sense, this is merely like renting a room in a large communal apartment. Each day, I had to kill several urinal moths and a mosquito in the bathrooms. Thankfully, never any mosquitoes in my bedroom. In fairness, I should note that the bathrooms open directly to the central courtyard / open sky, and thus it is probably difficult to keep them completely bug-free, but this pension could surely have made more efforts in this regards. (Bathrooms otherwise good.) No housekeeping service of my room during my 6 nights there. Did not bother me, but might bother you. I am sure they would have swapped me a new towel if I asked. Less sure they would make the bed if asked. "Breakfast" is little more than coffee/tea and juice, but otherwise a nice opportunity to meet some fellow travelers. The big TV in the dining/living room was a real nuisance - always on even when no one was in there, and difficult to turn off when people were in there, thus rending this room often unusable. This room would be charmingly relaxing if they would throw the TV out on the street. Price on booking.com is quoted in US$, and you can pay that exact amount in $US. If you try to pay in AR pesos, they will bill you at an exchange rate close to the black market exchange rate ("Blue Dollar"), not at the official exchange rate. So be prepared to either: A) pay cash in $US, B) exchange your $US for AR pesos on the black market and then pay in AR pesos at only a slightly lower exchange rate than you just got on the black market, or C) pay in AR pesos you pull from an ATM at the official exchange rate, thus paying more for the hotel room than you would have in $US. If you are not from the US or EU, you can probably pay in pesos at the official exchange rate. They are reasonable about all this.
