Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We chose the place because it was conveniently located on our journey and it had an excellent rating on booking.com. We discovered a very pleasant gite that deserves its high rating. We were sincerely welcomed by the landlords that made sure we would not miss anything. The place is a detached chalet from the main house. It is fully equipped,, comfortable and clean. place around is typical France country style very suited for peaceful and relaxing holidays. More dynamic activities are possible around. There is GR passing nearby. The place is highly recommended for those long range walkers (the breakfast is great!) and anybody aiming for nice holidays away from the crowded cities.
Cons: nothing I could think of
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Marie was exceptionally friendly and helpful, she even cooked us a beautiful meal because we arrived on 1st May which unknown to us was a public holiday and all the restaurants were closed. She was also very patient with our poor French and managed to make us feel extremely welcome despite verbal communication being limited! The room was very comfortable and homely, and included a sitting area. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We didn’t see much of the village because it was just an overnight stop but the surrounding countryside was beautiful and we plan to come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A perfect breakfast in the morning - one of the best we have had in France. A warm and welcoming room with everything you would need. Such a great place to stay and lovely hosts.
10.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic, almost gothic mansion, high ceilings, huge amount of room. Stuffed with shooting trophies, which may upset some, but - hey - they are from another era. Easy walk into town. Very quiet. Exceptionally helpful staff.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were motorcycling further in to France so stayed here on they way down and on the way back. The accommodation is a very interesting and beautiful building. The room was comfortable and very clean. We booked in for evening meal too and this was cooked by the host using local ingredients and vegetables from his garden. Both evening meals were fabulous. Breakfast was nice and fresh but basically bread, pastries and yoghurt. Food is served around one large table so it means you get to interact with the other guests, and in our case, we had quite a bit of fun. Mouzon has a river and a small abbey garden with a pond, and we enjoyed walking around the small town to stretch our legs. We would gladly return when motorcycling in that region again.
Cons: I would like to suggest that the bedrooms had hand soap and also glasses for water in the night.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The house was very clean and kept very well. Great location- nearby town of Mouzon was lovely for a walk around and the house was only quick car journeys from other places to visit
Cons: N/a
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was perfect for a last minute decision to stay in the area.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are very clean and the entire building is very intriguing.
Cons: The breakfast was not continental as described
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Character and elegance of the manoir, exquisite decor all in keeping with the era. We enjoyed sitting on the terrasse by the river in the evenings and the odd game of pool in the safari room.
Cons: No choice of restaurant in the village. Insufficient information about local facilities.
7.1 Good
Pros: The house is very grand with fine furnishings and very interesting relics. It is of historic interest without doubt. The staff were helpful and kind. Breakfast was an excellent selection of pastries and the usual cheese and breads.
Cons: It cannot really be described as a hotel as there is no provision of food or drink outside of the breakfast times. There is not even a glass in the room to allow a drink of water from the tap. The local town is pleasant but the option of food is limited most of the time to cheap take away food. All the food outlets and bars were closed the day I visited. So no food or drink for me on the evening I arrived.

Pros: The management were so friendly and welcoming it was a real delight, the manager spoke very good English which was a real bonus and they made me so welcome this was a pure pleasure, they even managed to get me a table at the French restaurant just up the road at very short notice, could not ask for more
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was ideal for a stop over on our way to Italy. The owner was extremely helpful, the room was clean, the breakfast buffet had a really good selection of food and the hotel was reasonably priced. It's well worth a look around the village as the river is quite scenic and if you're interested in history the American army formed a bridgehead there during the 1st World War.
Cons: I can't really think of anything I didn't like. The only issue was that we stayed on a Monday and only one restaurant in the village was open, but that's hardly the fault of the hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were welcomed by the lovely couple that run this hotel. They were concerned that we would need to book a table for dinner at the restaurant 100m up the road. She insisted on phoning them and was clearly pleased that we had got the last booking. We found out why. We had a superb meal at the only place in town! Fasthôtel Le Râle Des Genêts is a modern motel type place with a personal touch! The couple that run the place couldn't do enough for us! The room was clean and bright and parking plentiful. Perfect for our overnight stay on our way back from Italy. Thank you.
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: It was a great place to stop overnight. We are a family of 5 with 3 kids, so it was nice being able to stay in one room. Breakfast was also delicious in the morning.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good breakfast, though coffee thin. Good restaurant in nearby hotel.
Cons: Very fancy shower, but with loose fittings. Wash-basin: blocked waste. No light to shave by. No stand for suitcase, even in double room. No welcome. If the door-bell worked, no-one answered. Front door turned out to be unlocked, so I entered & had to shout for attention. A young girl appeared & showed me to my room. She did not know the time of breakfast, no-one ever told me in 2 days: I had to guess.
6.7 Good
Pros: Very good bed. Friendly people, but not easy to reach. Good recommendations.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: En route from Luxemburg to Reims we stopped over at the Hotel Du Saumon. The hotel is situated just across from the main square of Busancy, a small village in lovely surroundings in the Département Ardennes. It was like stepping back in time - the lovely little hotel is like right out of a pre-war french film, to foreigners like us it was like experiencing the essence of french culture. We stayed in a clean&cosy room with bathroom en suite and had a very good home-made supper, accompanied by the equally good wine of the house. Breakfast was very good by french standards (more than just a coffee and a croissant, but certainly not your run of the mill hotel chain brunch). The hosts were very kind and tended to all of our needs. Finally, the price, be it for the room, be it for the supper, was exceptionally low. We'll definitely make this our regular stopover on the way to the south and are looking forward to our next stay.

Verdun is 36 km from Hotel du Grand Monarque. The nearest airport is Châlons Vatry Airport, 119 km from the accommodation.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: On arrival, the girl at the hotel took pity on me and carried my case upstairs. We were asked if we'd like to have dinner/breakfast.. yes. The menu du jour was excellent: gazpacho, home made cheese ravioli in a cauliflower and truffle cream sauce. The choice at breakfast was also good
Cons: We had a room overlooking the place d'Eglise on the second floor: as a "senior citizen" with back problems, it was a long way to carry the cases up/down the spiral staircases. The bed was not the most comfortable, but ok. The biggest problem (and my own fault for not investigating) was the traffic noise.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very friendly and the food in the restaurant of the hotel was absolutely amazing. If you want to visit Verdun, this is the hotel to book a room in!
6.7 Good
Pros: The atmosphere of an old building - takes you back in time. The staff was kind.
Cons: Hotel room (mine was number 7) a bit out-dated especially the bathroom.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was rebuilt after the Great War in 1919. It has been carefully looked after and the present owners are a lovely friendly young couple who work really hard to create a welcoming atmosphere. We ate at the restaurant which was tasty local food at a decent price. Situated opposite the church, views are delightful.
Cons: We were two men on a motorbike holiday, so simple single beds were ok, but basic. To be fair we did not see any rooms other than our own so can’t say what they were like. Other than that no downsides.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel, with welcoming and helpful hosts. Room was comfortable and had everything needed. We were offered a delicious vegetarian menu which was good value.
Cons: The rooms on the main road are noisy, as lorries do thunder through in the night.. So if possible ask for ones on the front rather than the side of the building.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful historic hotel with extremely nice owners and a lovely location. Also, dog friendly.
Cons: If you want to eat at the hotel’s restaurant make sure to reserve in advance
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners/staff Nice interior, comfortable rooms and delicious meals. Housepets accepted
Cons: Breakfast is very meagre.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a beautiful old hotel in the heart of the French Argonne. The couple who owns it are doing a wonderful job on the restoration. We were completely comfortable and looked out our window at the historic village church. We heard the beautiful angelus played on the church bells every evening. A special word for the food: Dinners were excellent, cooked by the owners, and we never wanted to go anywhere else.
6.0 Good
Pros: Rustic character of the hotel, big clean room and bathroom.
Cons: The bed mattress was beyond its use by date (concave). Myself and my partner would gravitate to the center of the bed during the night, due to the shape of the mattress and its lack of support.

Pros: Great value for money, can't ask for more at this price.
Cons: For the money nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I mainly stayed here because it was the only place on my way to Verdun (by bicycle). The room was clean and the bed was good (though quite hard). The diner was lovely, tasted very fresh and very good value for money!! Also breakfast had a lot of choice (considering French standards). Friendly staff, I could park my bicycle in their garage.
Cons: the bathroom could do with a little makeover.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hostess was wonderful. We all felt like we were guests in her home. She received us like real guests, immediately accommodated a request for an extra room, and gave us a full tour. Breakfast was a magical experience as our hosts had breakfast with us. We had a delightful conversation about all sorts of things. It could not have been more charming. It is old and rustic, but clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast. It was a highlight of our month long trip.
Cons: The shared bathrooms.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Surroundings are nice.
Cons: No private toilet or bathroom. Noisy road in front of building.

The French cows are grazing in the sun, the rolling wooded landscape, radiating tranquillity, the small country roads bearing almost no traffic and with some luck you can spot deer and wild boar, hiding in the woods.
