Staff can provide information about what to see and do in the surrounding area. Each La Portilla de Cabezo bungalow includes a living-dining area with a sofa and TV. Kitchens come with a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. All bungalows have access to shared garden areas.
Pros: If you want to get away from the city, visit his place! It is far away from anything so you can have time to relax all day. Surrounded by trees and mountains.
Cons: Get prepared for the road. It is plenty of bends.
Pros: Superb location, close to the national park and many old villages. The accommodation is charming, fully equipped and spacious. The owners are extremely helpful and nice! Totally recommended for a weekend getaway or even longer stays.
Cons: Nothing. Make sure you are prepared that there are no restaurants/shops nearby
With a stay at Hotel Rural Los Ángeles in Nunomoral, you'll be 16.4 mi (26.4 km) from Hornacina de las Ánimas and 16.4 mi (26.4 km) from Plaza Mayor. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Really nice staff. Amazing location. Would definitely stay there again.
Located in La Alberca, Hotel Termal Abadía de Los Templarios is within a 5-minute drive of Plaza Mayor and Church of La Asuncion. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Event facilities at this hotel consist of a conference center and a meeting room.
Pros: Rather unusual hotel, constructed 10 years ago in the style of a medieval/castle. Huge hotel used more for weddings and big groups, so if you are unlucky this could spoil your stay. Otherwise adequate to stay and enjoy the beautiful environment.
Pros: Excellent hotel. Great amenities. Good spa
Cons: Bed very uncomfortable.
Pros: Clean, fire place in the room, spa almost 100% functional, not bussy, very good breakfast - coffee acceptable on existing expresso machines, great rib eye steak.
Cons: Staff not speaking foreign languages
Pros: Good location about a kilometer from town. Nice fireplace in apartmentitos. Good bartender. Amusing, “Faulty Towers” type ambience.
Cons: So many things. Most importantly, the sheets hadn’t been changed. As we checked in at night and the lighting was low, we didn’t realize this until the following morning when we saw a plethora of black hairs in the bed. My partner is bald and I have red hair. Disgusting. We also saw bits of garbage (eg chewed gum) which I had thought was my partner’s and he mine, until we compared notes after finding all the hairs in the bed. Not to pile on, but the restaurant was bad. The waiter was exceptionally rude from start to finish; the food was mediocre but expensive: a giant rAw hunk of meat with no flavor and a nasty undercooked potato and a bit of lettuce and cabbage on the side. Pathetic and sad, really. The facility represents itself as a spa- we were told nothing about this so I’m not sure where or how the facilities were. Check in was very slow. After presenting our passports and receiving the keys we had to wait 15 minutes to be “escorted” to the room. The bathroom amenities were very poor: dispensed shampoo and soap but no conditioner, for example. No coffee or tea or anything like that of course in the very large, tacky room. Anyway, I could go on, but my attitude is shadowed by the unchanged sheets. The bed was made and presumably the towels were clean - so this was just a nasty thing to do. I told the front desk staff about the situation upon checkout and she sort of giggled. Perhaps the terrible service was because we made it on booking.com? Hard to know.
Pros: Great location to visit La Alberca and Mogarraz
Cons: The decoration is awful. Guest have to pay 33€ for 2 hours in the indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Double check if there are any events going on.
Pros: The location in the Sierra de Francia and close to the village of La Alberca is unique and magnificent. Staff are riendly and try their best to help.
Cons: A real shame since it is an outstanding and stunning part of the world. The place is a big joke. The pool was closed. Mealtimes are dominated by coaches of groups and/or events that discriminate against the clients. All facilities and activities are for adults and not children friendly. The staff was very helpful but offered an hour in the middle of the afternoon to include the children. Of course that broke our day and we politely refused. It is a cash machine that gives no consideration to the client wishes.
Cons: The restaurant was very noisy with 100 children around and the food was quite disappointing
Hotel Rural Sierra de Francia features air-conditioned accommodation in Sotoserrano. It offers a tour desk and free WiFi. All rooms are fitted with a seating area and a TV. The rooms are fitted with a private bathroom and a bath, while selected rooms also boast a balcony. Guest rooms include a wardrobe. A continental breakfast is served every morning at the property. Hiking is among the activities that guests can enjoy near Hotel Rural Sierra de Francia. La Alberca is 15 km from the accommodation, while Plasencia is 90 km away.
Pros: Heart of ancient village, very lively main square, but room quiet with views over hills. Room with plenty natural light and space, well designed and good bathroom. Wonderful base for exploring Las Hurdes river valley and enchanting medieval villages of Sierra de Francia mountains above.
Cons: Surprise addition was ensuite little kitchen but stove & microwave out of action, if available would have been handy for tea/coffee snacks etc.
Pros: Lovely hostess and lovely hotel!
Pros: Clean comfortable
Cons: No proper menu for a meal but what I was offered was excellent
Built for King Alfonso XIII in 1922, the venue that houses the hotel has been carefully renovated in order to preserve many of its original features, while turning it into a comfortable and contemporary establishment. It is set in the Las Mestas area of the Hurdes region and its surroundings offer unspoiled nature, with a year-round pleasant climate and plenty of natural beauties. Guests can admire the natural spectacles of meanders, waterfalls, rivers with crystal-clear waters and pools, as well as typical villages. When the weather is right, those who are simply looking to relax can enjoy a swim in the outdoor pool and some tanning on the loungers around it. While the Spa and Wellness centre offers plenty of opportunities for pampering regardless of the weather.
Pros: They went that extra mile for our furry friend, providing a bowl and bed. Very peaceful. Enjoyed the restaurant and the rooms were very comfortable and spacious.
Cons: Staff lack knowledge of activities available in the area.
Pros: The swimming pool was still available even in October. Stunning location and excellent half board evening meal.
Cons: The breakfast. Rolls were hard and not much selection of breads - constantly ran out of hot food as no one was checking the situation. Many people had to find someone to inform, and then wait ages whilst it was cooked.
Pros: Setting was Great, Staff were All Friendly & Very Help Full. Restaurant Clean & Bright. Pool was nice, & Garden Area.
Cons: Room was very Dark, Needs Some Bright Color in It. Bulb Out in Bathroom. 1st Night in Restaurant, Hake Very Nice, & Cooked Well. 2nd Night Cod, Not cooked Well !!, 3rd Night Hake Not Very Nice.
Pros: The pool area, outside in general as it was very hot weather
Pros: A beautifully modernised building, large modern rooms all facing the garden; just a very good 4 star hotel all round .
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Poor restaurant service by staff
Set in Mogarraz and within Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Nature Reserve, El Balcón de Mogarraz is a restored country house with a beautiful setting. It offers charming rooms and an à la carte restaurant. This listed building has traditional architecture, including the façade and the balconies. Each room features original wooden beams and pale yellow walls. All rooms have heating, a TV and a private bathroom. The restaurant serves homemade, local dishes and during the summer months, you can dine on the terrace looking onto Plaza Barrio Hondo. El Balcón is surrounded by lovely countryside, including forest, orchards and many hiking routes. Ciudad Rodrigo, Plasencia and Salamanca can be reached in just over an hour by car, while Béjar is 40 km away.
Pros: A really lovely and unusual hotel in the middle of an amazing village. We loved our visit to Mogarraz and very pleased we chose this hotel. It is hard to find (just off the plaza major at the 'bottom of the village') but a friendly local helped lead us and then Thomas the friendly owner walked back up to the main road with us to help us drive down to the hotel to drop off our bags and then he promptly carried both heavy suitcases up the two narrow flights of stairs! So helpful. It is a very unique hotel which we really appreciated. Thin walls so bring ear plugs for neighbours who snore but worth it for the unique environment. Nicely decorated restaurant downstairs where we enjoyed excellent steak, red wine and good conversation with Thomas the owner using google translate as our lack of Spanish and his lack of English met each other half-way! Would recommend a visit to Mogarraz (the portraits of past and present owners all over the outside of the houses is extraordinary) and the El Bacon de Mogarraz a lovely place to stay while you do so.
Pros: The owner was very nice. A very charming old house. The village of Mogarraz is very nice, and is a great base for hikes.
Cons: The floors are made of a very creaky wood. And the couple above me were... well... in quite a romantic mood.
Pros: EVERYTHING WAS JUST OUTSTANDING INCLUDING THE PERSON WHO TOOK CARE OF ALL OUR NEEDS.
Pros: The location was perfect. Our room was attractively decorated and individually furnished with a pretty balcony looking into the fascinating plaza. The owner was very friendly and welcoming he made us an enjoyable dinner and breakfast. Exceptional value for money.
Cons: Nothing, well perhaps the rain!
Pros: Excellent location almost on the plaza. Free parking is at the top of town in a big timber/truck yard opposite the Spa Hotel. You can drive down to the plaza to drop off your luggage. There is no lift as this is a quaint old original building. Our host was very welcoming and helped us carry our bags. Excellent meal at La Autoctona Taberna.
Situated in La Alberca, Hostal La Balsá has a bar, shared lounge and free WiFi. A tour desk can provide information on the area. At the guest house, rooms are equipped with a wardrobe, a TV and a private bathroom. Ciudad-Rodrigo is 45 km from Hostal La Balsá, while Béjar is 46 km from the property.
Pros: Location, service, place
Cons: Location was great
Pros: Location is perfect, smack in the middle of La Alberca. Staff very friendly andhelpfull. Room almost too warm, plenty of hot water. Nice snacks and breakfast in bar Which opens at 0700 - a miracle in Spain). You have everything close by: restaurants, bars, stores, church etc.
Cons: Wifi a bit weak, but that is a village wide problem. No parking close by, but that is village policy. Plenty of public (free) parking abt 5-10 minutes walk away. If there's a local holiday or such in the village, some rooms can be a bit noisy - but hey! Go party with the locals then. That's what holidays are for.
Cons: Room on the four floor.
Pros: Great hotel with character in heart of the old town. Very welcoming staff. Comfortable room. Pleasant bar downstairs serving tapas and raciones. Local people congregated there to watch the Champions League football that evening giving the place a bit of atmosphere. Free car parking on periphery of village only 3 mins walk away. Very good restaurant just across the street
Pros: Nice staff and installations in general. Felt like home!
Cons: Small room, difficult to open some doors. Shower curtain torn. No breakfast included.
With a stay at Hotel Antiguas Eras La Alberca in La Alberca, you'll be within a 10-minute walk of Plaza Mayor and Church of La Asuncion. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
Pros: Great value for money. Management was super friendly and check-in was a breeze. The rooms and bathroom was spacious and perfect for two adults and even one 5 year-old squeezed in. Breakfast at 3 EUR was very good value! Location was perfect, only a few steps away from La Alberca town. Ideal for a 2-day stay and as a base to explore the region.
Cons: The room initially smelled like cigarette smoke.
Pros: very hospitable hosts, fabulous location in delightful medieval village
Cons: all great
Pros: We stayed here after changing our route around Spain and Portugal and wanted to meet up with some friends who had just arrived the day before in Spain. They have been to this area before and said we would love the town and we did. Because it was last minute and we needed somewhere with parking for our bike we ended up booking a room here. Parking is in front of the hotel and the bike was safe enough here. The lady on reception who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the front of the hotel. There wasn’t many people staying there that night and it was very quiet but we still managed to get drinks from the bar. The room was simple but clean and the bed was comfy and despite the heat we still got a good nights sleep. The bathroom was clean but there were a few cracks in the toilet which worried me lol The hotel is a few minute’s walk into town and what a stunning place it is. It was like stepping back into time. Here you will find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Across the road from the hotel is a swimming pool which you can use. Breakfast was simple but was good for the price and the coffee was very nice. Overall a good place to stop.
Cons: No air con but at the price we was charged i didnt think it would have air con.
Pros: The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was great and the location was superb.
Located in El Cabaco, Hospederia Pena de Francia is within a 10-minute drive of Plaza Mayor and Church of La Asuncion. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Very quiet very helpful, car park at the back Nice & close for carrying bags
Cons: Only a cafeteria for food on an evening Food was good but more like a snack than an evening meal Also reception not there till 9.30 in a morning If you want an early start pay your bill the night before
Pros: A room with a view is an understatement!
Pros: very clean, staff very helpful

Pros: Location is excellent, lovely views, friendly staff
Cons: They dont really have a swimming pool, guest can use the swimming pool in abadia de los templarios which is 1.5 km away. You need to take the car for a dip. The swimng pool there is gorgeous though.
Pros: Charming decor, good breakfast selection, comfy bed.
Cons: Nothing really. Car park is tight so we easily found street parking.
Pros: The Hotel was very well situated easy walking to centre of the very interesting village.
Pros: Great location, near the village centre and at the start of a walking trail. Friendly staff. Good Breakfast.
Cons: The rooms are rather small.
Pros: Great location.
Cons: Parking in their underground garage was a scary event entering and especially leaving
Pros: Location close to main town
Cons: Very difficult underground car parking for larger than average vehicles.
Pros: The location and parking were excellent and the bed was really comfortable.
Cons: The breakfast options on the second day were dreadful. There was still another hour to go when we went down and yet the huge coach party that had been in before us had eaten well and left little behind and there was no offer of anything hot being cooked for us so we were left with the toast and the pastries. The coffee was awful. Really bitter cheap coffee. We had a glass of wine in the bar one night and just managed to get another one ordered before the barman went home and shut the place up so we too had to call it a night.
Pros: Situation next to old village
Cons: Extra rate for „direct access to garden“ which was only 10 m2 without flower, chairs, tables - really useless
Pros: Beautifully restored property - rustic but still very comfortable and clean.
Cons: breakfast was a little dull - juice from cartons and no fresh bread.
Pros: Beautiful place. Room was spacious with balcony. Breakfast room and lounge very inviting. Great value.
Cons: Staff gave us misinformation on bus schedule, forcing us to take a private taxi at considerably more expense to get to Salamanca. Inexcusable.

Cons: having more time to spend there!
Pros: I was on my bike which he helped me store out the back
Cons: Great value nothing to complain about.
Pros: The proprietor was very friendly but you will need a bit of Spanish. Good value accommodation in an interesting village. There is a public swimming pool opposite. Looks like there is good walking around.
Cons: Only down side was the lack of a fan, but it was good value.
Pros: Parked outside ,staff very helpful ,WiFi rubbish still would recommend value for money

Ciudad-Rodrigo is 44 km from Hostal La Alberca, while Béjar is 46 km away.
Cons: no hair dryer
Pros: Excellent location, clean facilities, friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing serious, but the bath drapes could use some improvement.
Pros: Location Parking close and free
Cons: The hotel is a good little hotel for a one night stay. It was clean but we couldn't get the smell out of our room. Maybe the restaurant below caused it or the older facilities/bathroom. The owner/receptionist seemed to not speak English. Luckily I speak some Spanish. She sends out a message in Spanish to ask for your arrival time and to call her 15 minutes before your arrival, number provided. If you can't understand this you won't find anyone. Mostly, the reception is not attended. Having read the comments, we had packed just the necessary things for one night in our backpacks and left the suitcases in the car. The parking is very close on the other side of the road and free. We recommend doing this after having seen the narrow streets, driving mostly being restricted anyway. All in all, if I went back too la Alberca, I would choose this place again for the convenience of its location
Pros: The location and the views from the balcony.
Located in Mogarraz, Rusticae Hotel Spa Villa de Mogarraz is in the mountains, a 1-minute drive from Plaza Mayor de Mogarraz and 7 minutes from Hornacina de las Ánimas. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and an elevator (lift).
Pros: This was a spur of the moment booking as we were going to stay two nights in Salamanca. This was such a better option. The hotel was fantastic and while my Spanish is non existent the staff were patient and friendly. The village is off the beaten path and well worth the visit. We had a smashing meal in a little restaurant not far from the hotel and there are some good trails for either runs or walks. Across the road from the hotel is a Jamon butcher and if you going to buy meat from anywhere in Spain it may as well be close to the origin. Do yourself a favour and stop here.
With a stay at Hotel Las Batuecas in La Alberca, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Church of La Asuncion and Plaza Mayor. Featured amenities include luggage storage, a safe deposit box at the front desk, and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The location is great. The room was large and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Pros: Pets were made welcome at no charge, room was extremely spacious, food was good and cooked to order, Hotel was in a prominent location in the village, parking next to hotel, supermarket very close by, everywhere was open until 9pm, would like to return to look around more as not really possible with 3 labradors and we were en route to our holiday in Portugal.
Pros: Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff and good dinner too. Loved it and will be going back asap. Lovely stopover hotel but would reccomend staying longer!!
Pros: A very comfortable hotel in a lovely setting on the edge of the old town of La Alberca. This was my second visit and the hotel lived up to my expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed an aperitif on the veranda followed by an excellent dinner and wine. Good value for money.
Cons: Breakfast could have been better, with more choice, such as yogurt.
Pros: Excellent location for exploring the amazing medieval town of La Alberca and the surrounding area. Plenty of off road parking. Comfortable room, although not particularly spacious. Bathroom Ok- no bath. Couldn’t be bothered to go out for a meal so eat at hotel which was fine although only one other couple in rather large room so not overly atmospheric!
Cons: Breakfast was rather indifferent.
Cons: Breakfast very poor. Food prepackaged and very limited choice.
Pros: Location and car parking.
Cons: Room very dated and needed tlc. Whole hotel needed refurbishment. Not good value for money with poor food.
Pros: Location ideal, just 2 minute walk to village, had a nice room, overlooking the garden in the rear. Breakfast was ok, typical continental food. Parking was ample and free. Great roads around for motorcycles.
Cons: The breakfast maybe.
Pros: Excellent location on the edge of the old town. Good car parking. Good breakfast and comfortable room.
Cons: No problems - all good.
Pros: Mainly the staff and location
Cons: The breakfast could be much better, considering that the hotel is in a region that had a lot of very good local products and almost no sign of them in the breakfast.
