Do not take the cheapest rooms at the basement. We had a very good appartement at the second floor.
Beach really is in walking distance, just a couple of meters. The rooms were clean, and the breakfast buffet was good, too. The hotel supplies Billard and 4 Bowling lanes (as well as a basement Swimming pool, but we never used it). Bowling activities can be slightly heard on the floor above, but not in an annoying way. So I don't understand people on here complaining about Bowling noise... To those People: The hotel advertizes Bowling, quit complaining about something obvious and natural! This hotel obviously is no 5 Stars Deluxe Resort for certain golfplaying seniors or stuckup people but rather a good opportunity for flexible, spontaneous & active beachlovers who rather use the room for sleeping than for staying inside the whole time. The bathroom has a bad/passive ventilation, hence the smell after using it is really bad (I think that's what some people on here meant when they said "the room stinks"). Furthermore the toilet is situated in the corner of the bathroom, larger people (> 1,80m) will probably hit the toilet paper container and the shower cubicle with your elbows when sitting on the toilet. Roomsize and structure of our room can be compared to a standard Etap hotel room, but was absolutely sufficient (ausreichend) for us 2 persons! Just make sure the person you come with knows you well/loves you and won't mind your smell you might leave on the toilet! Or just bring some matches with you -> problem pragmatically solved.
good sized rooms and very clean, close to beach could hear the bowling alley at night from our room, should ask for a room away from the bowling alley
Very nice hotel for a break, but don't use booking.com - it's cheaper to book with the hotel direct. I did not like the fact that the room booked through the hotel directly would have cost 88 euros, but through booking.com it cost 100!
It is an insult to real 4 stars Hotels to call this hotel a 4 star one. On top of it reception staff are extremely unpolite. And my booking was not properly handled = overbooking. Are we in the 21 st centutry or still in the Middle Ages ? Money minded people totally not worried about the feelings of their clients.NEVER Again
friendly people, clean, location of room, sea side view
Prima ontbijtbuffet. Doet wat gedateerd aan.
The location on the dunes with the view of the beach and Sea is very nice. the staff was helpful
Its location and the friendly, efficient service by all members of staff but particularly those on reception We cannot think of a single thing we disliked
Wonderful location, not too crowded, excellent restaurant service and food.
Comfortable. Impeccable service. Good food.
That we could have dinner at pure c, taking the apero on the terras. Breakfast in the morning in the same nice area was nice too. Pity we had to leave so early.
the new restaurant launched by Sergio Herman, the 3 stars chef of the Netherlands Rooms look the age of the hotel (30-40 years ?), although they are clean. A bit oldish, but a perfect location for those who seek silence, breathtaking views over the sea and beautiful beaches
Unfortunately the restaurant was so successful that they did not have place for 'regular' hotel guests for dinner - if no reservation was made. Ordering a cup of tea to take back to the room took 20 minutes. And even though it's called 'strand' (=beach) hotel, the access to the beach was closed after breakfast - according to the personnel to keep out the crowds that are attracted to the trendy restaurant/bar design. Even though the design of the restaurant is splendid, the rest of the hotel would get 3-stars if you ask me.
Nice hotel, close to the beach I did not like the difference in price between what was written in the email from you (125€) to what I had to pay (190€)
The friendliness of the hotel staff.
We went to have dinner in restaurant Oud Sluis The breakfast was too simple
Large comfortable room and good position of the Hotel. The male receptionist was very helpful. Excellent parking facilities. On Saturday night there was a serious amount of noise from a dance band (So much we could not use the room) We raised the issue both verbally and in writing but have not had a reply after two weeks (the time they set themselves)
everything was good not really, but could have had tea/coffee making facilities
everything was comfortable and the staff very good
A very nice building from the outside Very dusty, should have been cleaner.
The breakfast was lovely. Check in was quick and easy. Lift available. Rooms were clean. Bathroom beautiful. Hotel has a nice bar and spa. The rooms were very small. We could not get the internet here, even though we asked the staff. They told us not at this time. Short changed twice in the bar.
Sluis is a lovely town, with plenty shops, restaurants and wonderful scenery. The Dikke Van Dale is the best hotel in the area. No criticisms at all
Impressive exterior facade, looks like a castle rooms look a bit outdated, too much carpet everywhere...
Location Poor breakfast ,steep stairs, tired atmosphere
The location at edge of city was great, and Sluis itself a charming, engaging community. Breakfast was excellent. Tho room was spacious it had pedestrian design and the twin beds were a downer. Charging for use of Wi-fi was off-putting. Price was much too high for the quality of the lodging.
Good parking facilities, free internet access and close to the beach. Small rooms and lack of sound insulation in the door to the corridor.
Good location with possibility of cycling, rollerskating, very close to the beach and some exciting villages/cities (Sluis, Brugge). Quite rich breakfast, impressive pub. Peaceful environment. Old, awful furniture, patches on the walls, smelly, dump bathroom, funny unusable equipments (radio, hairdryer), very uncomfortable, instable beds, the cheapest possible toilet paper, very thin towels. The dog is extremely expensive, 15 EUR for the first night, 7,50 for the others. However, dogs can't be taken to the restaurant and breakfast room.
very relaxed hotel, with lovely resturant and good breakfast.
excellent reception service. I was also a bit unwell and needed honey + hot water at 23.30hrs and the Barman went out of his way & got me what I required from the kitchen. Grest overall service!
It is a very relaxing place to stay, with excellant facilities including an very nice sauna and relaxation spa room, and lovely pool. A good place to stop. I was expecting a bigger room and I was expecting a better menu of fish on the menu.
Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. There was a good sized well lit car park and the breakfast selection was good. There was no literature in English. The hotel was out of theway if you had no means of transport. There was no facility to exchange money.
Great staff, very friendly. Good restaurant. Beds too soft
it is really quite, see and nature, sauna the bed are separate, preferable great bed
it was very cold in the room !
christmas shopping. no
friendly personnel; good breakfast; excellent bed the espresso was poor
Staff were friendly and attentive
This is an excellent hotel in the middle of a small quiet town, a few miles from the sea and the beach. The personnel is fantastic and the room was very spatious and quiet. Breakfast is a real treat in this hotel! The hotel facilities are more than adequate though not particularly luxurious. The restaurant is very good though prices are rather high. Overall we had an excellent stay here.
manager very friendly, rooms very nice, wf-fi very good!
the personal and friendly manner the crew did their job
Very friendly service, very clean rooms, great breakfast. Restaurant with an exceptional atmosphere and excellent food. Cosy place you immediately feel at home in. The only thing: hair dryer (at least in the smaller rooms on the second floor) are really no good for styling.
Very nice people, good kitchen, clean and spacius room, comfortable beds. Very good location in the centre of Oostbug. Perfect breakfast. Stairs to the rooms is rather steep. A little noisy (thin walls).
Family-run boutique hotel; size of room; very high quality of food and service; feeling like a guest and not a consumer baby cot was not great; we flagged it to the manager who will undoubtedly provide a better one for the next guests
Breakfast was verry good. Everything fresh and home made.
Hotel has a new owner and they plan to improve a lot. Nice people with good ideas and very motivated/commited. Previous owner caused a lot of damage mainly by bad service. I very much would like to give the new owners (family) a change to make something out of this place. Need some time but they are on the right way and I wish them all the luck. I will come back for sure to check. Hotel is nicely located at a square and has warm atmosphere. The previous owner was not interested and the hotel was not used for a long time. The rooms and beds need to be refreshed and renewed and some plans to do so are on the way. Cleanliness of the rooms could be a bit better.
Service was good; nice terrasse No soap/shower gel in bathroom; bin not emptied after previous guest
The location of the hotel was great, staff was friendly and breakfast was nice. The interior decoration wasn't really cosy and beds were not very good.
The attentiveness of the staff and the lovely continental breakfasts. Also the night entry arrangements were very good and the location is so peaceful and quiet. Parking was close and easy and the area we found out is virtually crime-free. The curtain rails need lubricating as the warm velvet curtains were not easy to pull back.
THe hotel was situated in a small village (satnav recommended) with little more than a small shop/post office, a garage and a kitchen furniture manufacturer/showroom, but larger villages within a few minutes travel. Although we didn't partake it seemed to be the centre for anyone wishing to explore the area by bicycle, as everywhere is flat, these could be hired at the hotel, During the fine weather, the hotel was a stopping off point for cyclist and although in a small village, was very busy. English is widely spoken and other guests and locals are happy to talk. The food was very good, all home cooked by the owners wife. Parking no problem. The hotel had 17 rooms split between two buildings across the street, breakfast in one half ,dinner in the other. The current exchange rate Pound/Euro does make even a short trip to the continent quite expensive especially in the bigger cities and even the hotel. Restaurant food and drink very expensive
