Pros: We felt very cared for by the owner Colleen. She has provided everything one could reasonably ask for. Very kind & chatty person too. Made us feel very welcome. The services provided in the lounge are excellent & complimemt those in the room.
Cons: It didn't bother us but over the weekend & especially on Sunday, it is difficut to find a good restaurant in town. Colleen was so helpful but of course she has no influence over this aspect of ones stay in the town.

Pros: A memorable 2 night stay in the Ostrich Palace which is situated near the beautiful "Red Mountains" A delightful room with antique furniture and quality linen on a very comfortable bed. The hosts, Kobus and Elmare were extremely hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. Elmare is an outstanding chef who prepares scrumptious meals, creatively plated. We have traveled quite extensively in South Africa and elsewhere and the Ostrich Palace compares more than favourably with similar establishments anywhere. It really is worth a visit.

Our room was spotless, had access to a veranda and had a lovely view of the garden and hills in the distance. The room had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. The staff were all terrific - charming, efficient and friendly. Boplaas winery is nearby and we picked up some excellent wines to take on our journey. We had a very decent steak dinner at a quirky restaurant/store up the road. All in all Calitzdorp is an interesting place.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Soeterus Guest Farm was a small piece of heaven! We were met by friendly hosts and shown to our lovely rooms, which had special touches- rusks with the tea tray, a small decanter of local port as well as chocolates on the pillows! There was a wonderful pool to have a swim in after the hot day's travel. The breakfast the next morning was a treat- completely delicious, and, as it was a birthday for one of our party , he got a complimentary bottle of "Soeters". Such wonderful hospitality! We will be back.

Pros: Olivia and Graham go out of their way for their guests. We were there only for one night but I'll be back with my family when next in Calitzdorp. Thank you

Cons: No comment. Everything was fine
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Charming and welcoming hosts and a fantastic location for a peaceful overnight stay. A large swimming pool and a overwhelming view makes this accomodation special.
Cons: During hot nights aircon would have been nice as there are enough moskitos around and the room does not cool down as there is only one small window. Otherwise all good.

Pros: The pool was a great bonus. We loved the lambs, the little dog and the two cats as well.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location,if you can bring yourself to drive 19 km down an unmade road. Very quiet, a real retreat. And the owners look after you splendidly.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully situated about 20km along a gravel road from Calitzdorp in a lovely remote valley. Excellent walks on well marked trails of varying lengths and good bird watching, including in the garden while having breakfast! Good food too.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Superb location- but be aware it is isolated and away from unsurfaced roads Friendly atmosphere and opportunity to meet with fellow guests at evening meal Well sign posted trails to explore surrounding countryside
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A truly beautiful experience all round. It’s an oasis filled with bird and plant life. The views of the mountains are breathtaking. Accommodation luxurious with a log burner. I loved the meals which were prepared with love and eaten in a group in the beautiful authentic dining room.
Cons: Some people might find the journey through the mountains to get there a bit taxing, along an untarred road. I enjoyed every minute.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The stuff very helpful
Cons: Costly on the service
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The peace... the magnificent food and beautiful mountains
Cons: Nothing not to like!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The royal welcome, the isolation, swimming in the dam, the walks, the pool, the Edwardian (not Victorian!?) architecture, the hosts, the birds, the silence, having our car washed.
Cons: Polycotton napkins at mealtimes detracted from the dining experience for this fabric princess!!! Also although the food is great for vegetarians, vegetarians tended to get dinner minus the meat which makes one feel "that will do". I felt a bit uncomfortable at dinner time, like an old colonial being waited on by black staff. It would be nice if these staff played more of a part in the hosting - announcing the courses, etc.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location in the valley. Wish we could have stayed longer and done some of the walks that are recommended. Delicious meal in the evening on the veranda and it is nice to meet the other guests. Lovely breakfast too. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. A place where you can really connect with the Karoo.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The welcome was outstanding and the hospitality was genuine. The collective atmosphere of dinner, with all guests sitting 'club table' style and enjoying wide ranging conversations and exchange of views was a high point for us. Our stay was too short to enable us to enjoy the various walks and hikes around the estate, but other guests spoke warmly of their experiences.

Cons: Noisy plumbing but loved the mozzie nets
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were absolutely spectacular - both content and particularly the plating and presentations which were creative masterpieces. Henry is a genious. He, Michelle and Bernadine made us feel very welcome.
Cons: We were there during Winter and unfortunately the aircon was not working. However, there was a small fireplace which certainly did help as we had a very large room. In addition, some TLC is perhaps necessary.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Convenient close to town, breakfast was great but was be a little to fancy for the B & B, and ourselves. A more traditional farmhouse breakfast would have been better. Hospitality from Michelle, Henry and Maria first class.
Cons: B&B offers WiFi but it does not reach outside rooms, you have to sit on veranda by swimming pool to get reception. Choice of TV Channels in room very very limited, and generally not to most travelers taste as consist of all local channel., Only BBC World News worth watching, and after that repeated it self over and over, went to sleep.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: For the cost was what we expected. Nice grounds and room comfortable.
Cons: The cooked breakfast was challenging and not a pleasant experience - regrettably.

Pros: We were on the Garden Route in South Africa so only stayed one night. It has beautiful grounds with a swimming pool which would be good for a family holiday in the summer time. There wasn't much round about but it was safe to walk to restaurant etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the peaceful atmosphere and excellent ambience at the guesthouse. This beautiful and historic guesthouse with its deep character is really appealing. It is situated in a quiet and safe town. This place is a must visit. It is wthin reach of a number of tourist attractions. The hosts Waldu and Angeline Oosthuizen are the best hosts you can get. Thank you for creating a home away from home, for all the warmth that you offered. We will be back!
Cons: We cannot point out any negative aspects about the place. The guesthouse have been revamped. We were delighted by the hospitality of our hosts. The new owners have great plans to raise the bar for guesthouses in the area.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Self catering area very good.
Cons: Second bedroom very small. No rack for suitcase.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Anna Sophie consists of a number of self catering cottages centered around a central courtyard. The surroundings are full of interesting bri-a-brac , art and kitch , which is very suited to this old Little Karroo town. A few things were a bit rundown, but at this price and in this sort of location it somehow matters much less than in a glitsy modern appartment. The central courtyard has a number of seating areas where you can sit and enjoy the evening.
Cons: -

Pros: The room was not in the attractive building shown on Booking.com but in an annex a short drive away in a quiet spot. The room was perfectly comfortable and the aircon worked well - much needed!
Cons: We booked dinner months in advance, only to be told at the last minute their restaurant was shut that night. However we went to Handelhuis Restaurant and had an excellent dinner, with the advantage that this retsaurant was much closer to the room than the Dorpshuis.
