Eric was a wonderful host - very kind and hospitable. Breakfast he was making was always amazing. When I asked for a lemon to add to my tea he just went to the store across the street to grab it - that’s what an excellent host he is. I have only two remarks regarding my stay. 1. There are no locks in the rooms. I do understand that it may be a safe area, however I simply would feel better to be able to lock myself or my belongings safely inside the room. As a woman often traveling on my own, it’s important to me. 2 The cleanliness was not to a good standard. At first glance it looked ok, but one look at the floor (especially in the bathroom by the sink) or the ceiling (especially near the curtains) was enough to see big dust bunnies.
Owners were pleasant. Location good.
Our room was a basement which we were not expecting. It was airless and noisy - plumbing from above! Beds weren't made up during the three day stay. Breakfasts were varied but no choice. A drink on arrival would have been much appreciated - we walked through the kitchen to our basement room.
The owner is extremely nice and willing to help. The room is beautifully decorated. The location is great, for examples, a supermarket is located just across the street and the metro station is a few blocks away. Most of all, the breakfast the owner provided is wonderful.
The location can’t be beat - the property is very close to central station and the red line. Very safe neighbourhood with easy access to downtown. It was also great that free parking was included, as parking in the city can be costly and difficult to find at times.
The bed was not comfortable (creaky and uncomfortable mattress). The room was a bit hot for sleeping - the AC was perfect for the ground floor but could have been cooler during the hot weather (in the evening) for sleeping, as the rooms were upstairs. If you’re looking for a quiet place, and don’t mind a library-silent awkward vibe, it’s not a bad fit. It wasn’t necessarily our cup of tea but that’s not necessarily a flaw, just a matter of personal preference. Although reasonably priced for the neighbourhood, having stayed at other B and Bs, there were a few things that struck me as imbalanced for the price point. For instance, we were offered only one set of towels for a three night stay. Perhaps if we asked we could have had them changed, but this was not offered per se. Also, the shared bathroom situation was communicated clearly in advance, and although in itself it was not a problem, the toiletries were sort of basic (a one-fifth filled communal bottle of store brand shower gel) and the cleaning supplies were out in plain view with the conditioner and shampoo. Breakfast was okay - but again, nothing special for the price point (for instance pastries were available but there was no toast), or the one morning there was only a sweet breakfast option. We had booked three nights, and although it’s clear policy as per the agreement that we were past the cancellation point, we had a change in plans that would have made it easier to leave after night two. Fully aware that as per the booking agreement I was obliged to pay for three nights, Eric was within his right to charge the full amount, no question about that. However, I felt that given the volume of occupancy, he could have charged a nominal fee or met us half way and let us go a night early as a good faith gesture. We had to leave early our last day and were told breakfast couldn’t be made more than a half hour early but scones would be left for us to grab. They were not provided.
Very pleasant owner. Good conversation and help with parking and general directions.
