Best Hotel in Cambridge/ location is perfect
Well decorated rooms. Convenient to Harvard square Officious front desk staff. Being told they couldn't change our departure and charges despite a family emergency because it was our fault we used a third party reservation service. Being told entirely dissimilar rooms were the same. Smelly comforter covered by clean sheets. No coffee maker in room. Ice available only on request from room service.
Location was excellent. The room was very nice and comfortable. Excellent farm to table restaurant and bar. Although they had a parking garage, the elevator to the lobby was out of order so you had to take the stairs and the stairs lead to outside the front entrance. Very inconvenient if carrying any bags from the car and also because of sub-zero temps that weekend. Also no in and out access for self parking at $40 per night. If you leave you have to pay again.
Location was great with excellent service and nice trait ants around in the plaza
One great thing about Harvard Square is the high energy and bustle, especially when school is in session. What makes The Charles so perfect is that it is a tranquil respite right on the edge of all the happenings.
The room was very drafty near the windows- lots of cold air coming in
The Charles Hotel is centrally located in Cambridge, so it's very easy to get around the town. We walked wherever we needed to go and got there quickly and easily. The hotel has several dining options and an actual fitness club, not just a room with some cardio equipment and universal equipment. The wifi works well and the staff were all very helpful. It's pretty expensive to stay here, but we found a good deal on one of the discount hotel sites. I'd return in a heart beat.
Everything is within walking distance as I enjoyed a glorious autumn afternoon. I browsed endless rows of books at the Coop, watched rowers glide along the Charles River and ran stairs at Harvard Stadium while the football team engaged in a spirited practice. When I returned to the hotel, the room smelled great. They must have a special scent. I enjoyed the organic soap, shampoo and lotion that came with the room. Henrietta's Table is great for breakfast / brunch, and I highly recommend The Harvest for dinner. A very nice stay.
Excellent service and superior restaurant. Very friendly staff who facilitated the check in and out as well as the luggage. I was in and out many times with my 7 year old grandson and he was always greeting with a smile. My daughter belongs to your health club and so they are used to going to your hotel. Overall, a well located, efficient and very quiet hotel.
Great location near the center of Harvard Square. Rialto is an excellent restaurant. Regatta Bar is great if you like jazz. Hotel is in need of renovation. New England shabby-chic means it's just a basic hotel in terms of cleanliness and room amenities. Bathrooms are seriously dated and in need of complete redo. Service levels are mediocre. Business center is a joke (1 computer and an attached printer). Prices are very high: you are paying for the location.
The Charles is a perfect place to stay in Cambridge. It is well located, well designed with contemporary clean lines but still warm, and the Rialto is a fabulous restaurant in the hotel. We had a corner room which was quite spacious which we really appreciated as we were staying multiple nights.
Heated bathroom floors, reading lights above bed. No gym.
Nice boutique hotel. Incredibly friendly staff. I loved the high-quality coffee available 24/7 (Nespresso, not K-cups!). Also, water, orange juice, and soda available anytime for no charge.
Location, location, location.... Nothing
The shared bathroom was very clean and well-stocked. There was more than one bathroom on my floor, so each room is just steps from the bathroom and I didn't encounter any waiting situations.
The breakfast was very nice. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Very pleasant all around.
A nice and warm place - particular the dinning room where you can always go and get a cup of coffee or even a piece of cake. The room is small, sound insulation not very good, and the bed a bit too soft.
The staff was wonderful. It was a pleasant surprise in the midst of Cambridge.
Quiet, proximity to Harvard campus
Breakfast and snacks were great. Nice community atmosphere.
I liked the location near Harvard Square. I enjoyed the breakfast, which had some tasty items such as hard-boiled eggs and delicious little pastries. I also thought the staff was helpful and friendly. Finally the free WiFi was a nice perk, which came in handy because I brought my laptop. My room was tiny, and I needed to walk into the hallway to use the bathroom. Definitely felt like being in someone's house, which can feel a little awkward when you are surrounded by strangers.
The location and the price. It is not really close to subway stations. If you are carrying large/heavy bags you will need a taxi.
Location, home-like. Price indicated when booking did not match actual price. Room was oppressively hot, and too small for a queen sized bed.
The beds were comfortable and the TV large. I liked the free wireless. The first room offered was extremely small. Also, there was a musty smell to the room we did have.
The staff were cordial and efficient. The guest house was well maintained and nicely appointed. Everyone was extremely helpful. The room was small and expensive. Sharing a bath can prove problematic.
Lovely, friendly and perfectly located between Harvard Square and Porter Square.
Pleasant welcome. Excellent breakfast
We did not enjoy our stay - room was tiny - a single at most. Plumbing system started at 5.30 a.m. - our room was on top floor. Breakfast good. However we would not recommend.
The breakfasts were absolutely fabulous. During our visit, there were some road works in front of the Inn, which may make it difficult for those with cars.
The staff was very friendly and the breakfasts were outstanding. The street directly outside the Inn was being worked on and was very noisy early in the morning. I think guests should have been warned of this work in advance which had been going on for some weeks.
Accessible to Harvard College. Charming historic home. Free parking. Great breakfast.
Individual 'feel' and great location
Nice room well appointed clean and a very good breakfast. Each room was unique and the staff was very friendly b Construction noise but that was not the hotel's fault.
I have stayed there several times over the years and have found all the rooms comfrotable. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the breakfasts and breakfast service are always special. Each room is unique.
Staff The sheets and towels had way too much perfumed detergent.
Breakfast is poor, for such amount of stars should have been better, no warm food at all, just eggs
Very clean inn. Good location walking distance to Harvard/ Boston. Close to MIT. small bathroom
Helping attitude of staffs. breakfast was too cold.
Location is pretty good, with 10 mins to Harvard square and 20 mins to Porter square; fairly stable internet. The room was tiny, so was the TV (and placed on a high cupboard); no option to not have towels replaced everyday; have to go out to the hallway to make tea/coffee; slow internet.
Friendly service, location, very reasonable rate for that location, quaint room
My account was debited twice, as of three days of checking out it has still not come off.
Location, close to Harvard Square and the the t Price, although Boston is an expensive city to visit
The staff is extremely helpful. Rooms were very clean. The location is great with easy access to the T, Harvard Square, etc. The breakfast room is not very comfortable. Too small, no tables of appropriate height to eat off of. Food is mediocre; but not really any different than I would eat at home...
Location Bed was uncomfortable
The location is excellent and the staff was perfectly friendly. Room was adequately clean. Room was very small and awkward, extremely basic appointments - would have been fine at a bargain price but for almost $200 per night after taxes, it was far from a bargain. To be fair i didn't find anything cheaper in Cambridge, but still i was disappointed - I should have stayed further out and taken the T in
Although breakfast time is from 7:00, most foods and drinks were ready very early. It was nice for leaving early in the morning. And the location was very quiet. The room had no bath (only shower).
Small, clean, European-like room with TV, mini fridge, and hair dryer. Excellent location close to restaurants, shops, Harvard, and the T. Friendly staff. No continental breakfast.
staff was nice, room was clean and visually appealing, great location ran out of coffee creamer on a Saturday morning? charged me for parking fee after my friend already paid, took 3 calls to get it straightened out
Great location, nice, accommodating staff, comfortable bed, quiet. My room smelled like someone had been smoking in it or something septic had happened and they just hadn't been able to completely get rid of it.
location and view
Location Decent price Very low water pressure on fourth floor Noisy - sound insulation lacking
convenience to shopping, universities, and public transportation. Friendly staff.
The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The location, so close to Harvard Square and Harvard Yard, was ideal for my reunion weekend. The price was high for the lack of amenities and out-dated decor, but the location was worth it. Would recommend for location and cleanliness only.
staff, location aircon didn't work last 2 days
close to the conference center a bit expensive for what it is ....a super "motel six" at 260$ a night....with $35 of parking fee on top of it!
Close proximity to restaurants, subway Rooms were small, cramped and did not have the room reserved we were told, were told there is a disconnect between booking.com and the hotel reservation dept and the room was not available.
Location and staff The hotel computer was slow
