Owner book a table for us and printed directions! restaurant its self was very nice and family run, served local food and wasn't expensive. Breakfast, gluten free bread, homemade jams and all fresh. we eaten in conservatory. Pros: I’ve stayed here several times; in fact this is the only place I will stay when I come to Normandy. The Chateau is unbelievable! It’s like stepping back in time and living like a member of the royal court. Chateau Canisy has been family owned for more than a thousand years and everyone there makes it there mission to insure that you have an unforgettable stay.
Pros: We stayed 2 nights, the Chateau was huge, very well kept and amazing, with acres of grounds. The staff were friendly and meeting the lovely Countess was a bonus. This is not a 5* hotel as you would imagine, it is liked being invited to stay as friends for the weekend at the private castle of a French Count and Countess. Dining in the music room was a treat.
Cons: Nothing, just wished it was a little closer to where we live!
Pros: Beautiful Château and lovely gracious staff. Our dinner was above and beyond fabulous.
Cons: I prefer a shower and there was only a bath
Pros: The building is beautiful, and the grounds spectacular. It felt like staying a night at a museum. The staff was the best thing about our stay though. Yan was super helpful: she stayed late at the property waiting for us to arrive and made sure we had everything we needed. She was very nice and courteous. Patrice, the gardener, stayed up late waiting for us to come back from a late dinner so he could close everything and turn off lights after we arrived. They were awesome!
Cons: For the price, I expected better quality sheets. They were extremely rough and scratchy making the sleeping experience very uncomfortable. The breakfast was very simple. It felt weird to be completely alone in the property as we were the only guests and there is no 24 hour staff.
Pros: Very special place. Grand but welcoming and comfortable. Wonderful stay!
Pros: The grounds were beautiful.. The staff was wonderful.
Cons: The rooms and furniture, rugs particularly were weathered .. although I understand it’s an old Château it had a musty smell..
Pros: the property when we actually found how to get into it was good
Cons: We were the only guests for both nights and this is not a hotel although it must have 50 rooms! - it would be excellent for groups of people but not a couple who wanted a hotel. There was a gardener whom we asked as to which door we had to go into when we arrived as they were all shut! and one member of staff to run everything in the 'hotel'. In fact there was absolutely no one other than us in the building during the night and most of the day. The meal we booked was a 3 course meal for 65 euros each and consisted of cold melon soup, poached farmed salmon with a packet herb sauce and rice with frozen peas and broad beans in it and a desert of strawberries in some liquor with a bought chocolate 'pudding' that wasn't really cooked. This was all prepared and served by the only member of staff, who was trying hard to be helpful although our communication wasn't very effective. We sat in splendid isolation in the dining room of the chateau which was designed for about 16 - 20 The owners agent visited us in the property and was extremely pleasant and helpful and we had a good chat before the one dinner we had there.
Pros: Beautiful old Château. Dining in the music salon.
Cons: No kettle in room. No restaurant.
Pros: We were the only two couples there. It was an absolute hoot. Staff was very accommodating. Prepared coffee/tea in the morning evening.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was just fine

Pros: Peace & quiet with wooden floors and antique furniture. Very relaxing and genuine hosts.
Cons: We were a bit concerned about our room being en suite but with shared toilet but we found it no problem.
Pros: This farm is in a wonderful location. Away from the crowds of many Normandy towns but also close enough to drive and tour any part of Normandy or Brittany. The house is beautiful and it's like stepping back in time when entering, the farm has been a here for hundreds of years. Breakfast were wonderful with homemade cakes, breads and jams. Dominique and her husband were very helpful with advise and information.
Pros: The breakfast was included in the price. A simple continental breakfast of tea, coffee or hot chocolate with orange juice and bread and jam and/ or little cakes. The environment was delightful, in the heart of the countryside, beautiful woods and fields and pretty little towns. The house itself is in an old style for the bedrooms, The outside is charming with lovely rose bushes etc. The mattress was in good condition and firm. I slept well in the quiet surroundings.
Cons: The shower curtain.
Pros: Lovely location...lovely hosts.....would highly recommend.
Pros: Dominique and Pierre are the best hosts! Pierre found 60 euros in the driveway and made sure he found who it belonged to and returned it (my spouse). Dominique offered to take us to and from a festival in Dangy...Cannot say enough kind thing. I love their donkey -: enen bought him a carrot. Homemade bread and jam.
Pros: The owner was very kind, the breakfast was lovely all home made bread and jams, in all would recommend to friends
Cons: Toilet in the room
Pros: Wonderful surroundings Peaceful break away form it all
Cons: Fresh bread at breakfast
Pros: Peaceful location
Cons: Place was very old and not kept up very well. Toilet was not in room. Breakfast was terrible (no croissants which you always get in France) and the bread seemed to be a day old (not fresh). The property owners did not (even) go out to the local bakery to get a fresh baguette in the morning! Would not go back.
Pros: Very nice quiet location, lots of storage area. Dominique was very accommodating and a great host. Very nice home made jams!! certainly buy a pot to take home. Upstairs there is a fridge and microwave which guests can use to..
8.3 Excellent (263 reviews)
When you stay at Le Château de la Roque, The Originals Relais (Relais du Silence) in Thereval, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Green Beach and Museum of Fine Arts. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Pretty chateau in a tranquil setting.
Cons: Tired, dated interior. Quite grubby. Outside area pretty but in need of a lot of tlc.
Pros: Amazing location, we had great time
Pros: Very nice chateau-hôtel close to St Lo. In the middle of the country-side. Nice rooms in medieval style. Beautiful lounges and sitting rooms in medieval style.
Cons: Jacuzzi and table d'hôte were closed on Sunday. Jacuzzi quite expensive at 30€/person.
Pros: Lovely place, nice setting
Cons: They had a young lad running or pounding around in the room directly above ours, both on the evening of our stay & also the next morning. It did make our stay not very enjoyable.
Pros: On arrival at the magnificent Chateau we were met by the charming and very beautiful lady of the house who made us feel very much at home she showed us to our magnificent bedroom at the top of a winding stairs.. the Chateau itself was amazing.. an experience to cherish and savour... the breakfast and evening meal were delicious.. We cannot wait to return!
Cons: There was nothing not to like!
Pros: Loved the family room - was a suite so the kids could have separate sleeping quarters. Breakfast: excellent coffee machine and it was fun boiling our eggs. Dinner was excellent. Loved the towel warmer in the bathroom, and had plenty of heaters for the cool nights. Also, Cristelle packed us a bag of croissants “to go”!!
Cons: Would have liked to receive a printout of our bill before checking out. Also, it would have been more helpful if Cristelle was able to speak more English...my very broken French was not very sufficient
Pros: Even though communication was sometimes difficult the staff was welcoming and very pleasant, Food was outstanding, and a lovely country setting with great period room.
Pros: The bed was comfy the shower was goof
Cons: Lack lustre welcome, no reception area as such. It was like someone’s private office. Shown a room with a bath and shower on the wall and no shower curtain. I wasn’t happy and was given a far superior room with a proper shower. Why weren’t we shown this one in the first place. No milk to go with with complimentary tea and coffee in room. No mention of any facilities ie bar etc. One if the staff seemed to avoid us.
Pros: Excellent and very convenient location. Magnificent environment / architecture - a classic French manoir. Elegant interiors tastefully decorated. Comfortable, room / bed. Calm and relaxing ambiance.
Cons: The path between the parking ground and the hotel entrance is gravel - if your cases are heavy / wheeled, best to deposit these before parking. Check-in was awkward - nobody present for +/- 10 minutes. The inevitable difficulties with routine maintenance in large estates - cracked windows due to absence of tie-backs for frames. Bathroom decor was poor and ill-considered (shower hose lies across the tub) - the bidet wasn't functioning and there were armies of ants in all areas - not a problem, just visually unappealing. Limited electrical points (trailing cables etc) - the wi-fi was difficult to use and ultimately inoperable.
Pros: The grounds, the hospitality, the room, pretty much everything. Outstanding place to stay
Cons: The bathroom wasn't very private
