10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was so relaxing to return to after exploring the beautiful villages in the area. The light filled sitting room looked out over a beautiful garden which was enclosed from the outside world. The bedroom was well appointed and fitted with luxury linens where we enjoyed a great nights sleep in the quiet of the country. The bathroom was well lit, great shower and plenty of room for two people. Above all this however is the warmth and hospitality of our hosts. Ann and Bruce supplied all the information on where to visit in the area. They also recommended the most fabulous restaurants. Thank you both for providing such wonderful memories.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed for three nights in April , really nice helpful owners , the best breakfasts on our tour of the Dordogne all fresh food and of high quality, the property is away from the town down a quiet lane , the local towns are only a short drive away the walking in this area of the Dordogne is spectacular, we would thoroughly recommend this as a base for a few days
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting was fantastic. Overlooks the valley, can see the Chateau in the distance, fantastic lit up at night. Breakfast on a balcony four mornings this is 5 starr. Our hosts were excellent, perfect English, breakfast with home made jams, accommodation to the highest standard set in a rural countryside with nice pleasant country walks, very peaceful.
Cons: nothing

Pros: Anne and Bruce were wonderful hosts. The bed was luxurious, the views spectacular and yes the breakfast on the terrace was a dream. We even had two magnificent rainbows to add to the spectacle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Anne and Bruce were the perfect hosts. They were friendly and informative about the local area. The room, Camomile, was large and full of French character and the queen bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a walk-in shower. Breakfast on the terrace, with amazing views over the valley, was a bonus. The breakfast was varied in some way everyday, with fresh fruit juice, fresh fruit, ham, cheese and warmed croissants and bread. This was a great location for exploring many Most Beautiful Villages and chateaux.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were brilliant - they gave us excellent advice on restaurants and things to do. We canoed, visited a local market, beautiful gardens and Jean Lurçat's castle - all perfect :)

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place ..a must see .. real Historic Chateaux and beautifully kept.
Cons: But be ready to carry you luggage up a spiral stone staircase ....fabulous ..but a bit hard going for older bones !
6.8 Good
Pros: Second visit to the Chateau. Prior 3 years ago. New female owner lovely and very welcoming. Breakfast good although included in room cost on the previous visit. Room tidy and a good sleep.
Cons: Male owner not so welcoming, said hello but otherwise not wanting to engage in conversation. The opposite of his lovely wife. The once beautiful gardens are run down and in need of maintenance. The male owner needs to put some gardening clothes on and start trimming hedges. The chateau is beautiful but has lost the special feeling that brought us back for a second visit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a wonderful experience from start to finish.Your hostess Cecile, whose family have occupied this wonderful house for generations, was gracious and friendly, and, she went the extra mile to sate the hunger of 4 travellers, whose night of arrival sadly coincided with the closure of the restaurant over the road. We two couples shared the Rose suite which was beautifully furnished with large and comfortable beds. What a splendid sleep we all had. Our tasty and creatively prepared breakfast was served on a marvellous terrace by a lovely member of staff who added to the ambiance of a memorable all too brief one night stay. By the way if you don't enjoy the views across the lake from the garden then I guess there is no pleasing you.
Cons: Now this is a tough one!! We have thought long and hard and the only thing we can think of is maybe availability of some sort of tee/coffee making facility in the bedroom might be nice, but maybe your hosts would not want to take the risk of the room furniture being stained or damaged so in all honesty were happy to go without!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cecile (owner) and Elodie could not have been nicer and more welcoming. It is still a family home although vast and we were welcomed like family. Very tastefully modernised and not spoiled.
Cons: Nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Conveniently located near to Brive set in tranquil location overlooking a lake. Beautiful garden area to relax. Delightful hosts who were very obliging.
Cons: 85 steps of a steep spiral staircase to get to our bedroom ‘Orchidee’. You need to be fit and active as it is a long climb and difficult with luggage. This needs to be made clear as some less able people would really struggle. Weather was hot and room quite stuffy but a fan was provided which made it more bearable. Servicing of the room was not automatically carried out, in fact after two days without a service, we had to ask to get clean towels and bins empty etc. This was done on day 3 but only one lot of toiletries provided for the 4 day stay so make sure to bring your own shampoo and soap. Paying in cash only is an inconvenience and potentially a security issue as the room does not have a secure box or safe. Whilst a unique experience to stay in such an old castle, from our perspective it was not what we were expecting for the price and based on the reviews made of the property.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Beautiful castle. Beautiful setting. Excellent breakfast. Clean rooms. Modern day bathroom. Impossible to be The Ritz because it’s a castle. Great value.

Cons: Nothing really
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is an amazing chateau; beautifully furnished and in a delightful area close to the lake. Made very welcome and breakfasts on the terrace were very memorable. The latitude and longitude on booking.com is not accurate - but if you get to village you can't miss the chateau opposite the restaurant. Lovely and cool inside in hot weather.
Cons: You have to climb a minimum of 50 steps to get to your room. It's well worth it - but bear it in mind!

Pros: A very nice holiday stay with very nice, caring and friendly people. We rented the family apartment which was perfectly clean, nicely decorated, had good beds and a perfect (basic) bathroom. Breakfast was very tasty. Fresh croissants, bread and cut fruit, home made yoghurt and jam. A bit of a surprise to us, but very nice, to have breakfast together with the owners: very kind and pleasant company (English speaking is ok). The location is beautifull and quiet, the house is surrounded with a comfortable garden, swimming pool, some gym tools, basketball court and a table tennis. Lot’s of oppertunities to hang around. Pros: The reception staff and waiter for dinner were cheerful, friendly and efficient. The evening meal was first class. The hotel garden was peaceful and attractive. And the hotel room was clean and comfortable.

Pros: Central location . Town centre was 2 mins away with plenty of restaurants and small shops. Hotel was secluded and quiet spread between several buildings in a lovely side road. Hotel restaurant is probably one of the best in Martel. Has a Iimited set menu but both dinner and breakfast were excellent and good value. Need to book. Pleasant secluded swimming pool. Free car parking.

Cons: Everything was good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Year on year, Le Fenelon remains a pleasure to visit. Charming staff, good regional cuisine and a charming location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Le Fénelon is in our top 10 of small, village hotels in France. Over a period of 30 years we have travelled all over France, and spent 25 years living here for 3 months every year. Le Fénelon is as good as it gets, and better than most. The patron/ propriètaire is an absolute gentleman, always willing to have a conversation, to help and to advise. The staff are excellent, and obviously very happy in their employment. The bedrooms are clean and well appointed. The restaurant, outside and inside, is a lovely place to have dinner and relax. The menu is very good, and 3 choices change every day. The hotel itself overlooks the river and has a small, elevated swimming pool which is a great place to wind down in at any time during the day; but particularly in the late afternoon. If you are not totally obsessed with 2 star hotels being more than what they 'say on the tin', then Le Fénelon is exactly what the doctor ordered! We recommend it highly!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Traditional French hotel ambiance. Lovely restaurant with excellent varied menu, including vegetarian, and lovely shady terrace. Friendly and attentive staff. Location on the river. Small but historically important village, very walkable- perfect to wander about and explore!
Cons: Nothing bad, all was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good but, as with all French hotels quite pricey. Dinner was great, staff helpful and attentive, nice swimming pool. Superb location, would definitely return
Cons: Not a lot
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff. Allowed me to leave car for longer and check out late to use swimming pool. Food in own restaurant was excellent.
Cons: Wasn't too keen on room decor, could easily be made more 'charming' as is the case for the building itself and obviously the village overall. Room was pretty neutral in a kind of strange, 90s grey way with some rustic bits mixed in. But not a problem, overall absolutely fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable room. Tasty dinner and breakfast. Good value in a lovely location. Would stay again!
7.0 Good
Pros: Great town. The hotel is in the center.
Cons: The room I had needs updating. The bathroom was tiny

Pros: The pool was lovely-well maintained, kept clean The staff were delightful, friendly, couldn’t do enough to help, made everything seem ‘not a problem’ The food was lovely, silver service The view from the pool was stunning
Cons: Unfortunately there were many wasps. The hotel did try to deal with this a few days into our stay and they were largely got rid of.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel looks and feels like described here on booking: nice view to the valley, swimming pool, clean rooms etc. What has really exceeded the expectations: the restaurant in the hotel. Tasty and with the top-level service. I will definitely be back in warmer times, to enjoy the sunset from your perfect swimming pool and dishes from your restaurant.
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfasts good. Views fabulous
Cons: No air conditioning no fans in bedroom imperative you sort out. Twin beds required too . More hangers in wardrobe. Kettle facilities etc., Hotel needs an overhaul in decor .
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The views and location are amazing, the infinity pool overlooking the valley is superb, lovely clean hotel, the staff apart from the manager were fab. Basic room facilities, but perfectly clean and the bed was comfy and changed everyday. Bathroom spotless although separate toilet a bit claustrophobic it hey it’s only a loo. The view from the room is amazing and although I say the room is basic with its facilities, who wants to stay in your room when you have a location as magnificent as ours. Perhaps comfier chairs or loungers on the patio so you can enjoy the views even more, but overall 7/10.
Cons: We had a small issue with the manager or we think he was the manager, we have serious food allergies with anaphylactic shock outcome and he didn’t really seem to care, acted quite blasé and was cross when we had to send food back because of the allergies. Also another illness I have which is M.E makes it very hard for me to cool down, one of our main search filters was air con. When we arrived it was broken and looked like it had been for a long time with no indication when it would be fixed. We even emailed the hotel making sure they had air con and about our allergies. At no point were we told it wasn’t working. With this in mind, I have asked the hotel for some kind of recompense as we paid nearly £800 for our stay, paid extra because we thought it had air con, could’ve have gone elsewhere for less money. Please can you look into this for us.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stunning views from my room Excellent restaurant Comfortable room Friendly and accommodating staff Idyllic location Really was the much quoted room with a view! (Although I guess you would need to request a room with a valley view when booking to be sure) Also the infinity pool was outstanding
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A modest hotel, but what makes it is the position, it has the most amazing view. From our room, we looked across the infinity swimming pool terrace to the beautiful, nearby village of Loubressac and the stunning Chateau Castelnau. A simple room, clean and comfortable. Having been out all day we ate in the hotel restaurant, very good and recommend the Scallops with Risotto. Good private parking.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Superb views of countryside - restaurant food very good. Mini bar in room. Good offers. Nearby village very pretty.
Cons: Without hot water for a day although this was rectified the next day. AC broke they weren’t able to repair it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet small hotel in the country with a GREAT view overlooking a large valley that is miles across. Beautiful infinity pool. Good restaurant. We plan to go back and stay longer.
Cons: nothing
9.3 Excellent

Cons: The rooms were ok, but overdue for refurbishment - particularly the plumbing (a minor leak and shower didn't drain well). A little expensive given quality.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: great property and very friendly couple. the surrounding area is lovely and we were able to walk from the property to the village. the only this that could have helped is a fan in the room as it was very hot.

Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff and beautiful swimming pool. Dinner was simple but very good
Cons: Noise from the road in the early morning. Quiet in the evening though
6.8 Good
Pros: Facilities
Cons: Food was really basic and breakfast was very poor...
5.0 Okay
Pros: Availability of a Boules/Petanque space
Cons: A price on the menu we were shown for an evening meal suggested it was 12 euro. In fact we were charged 23 euro. The food was appalling for a French Hotel. A choice of only two dishes. The maigret du canard and salmon were poor quality. The french fries were poor english standard oven chips. No tea and coffee facility in the room and no television or radio in the room. Very poor for the price compared with a Camponile.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, old good style hotel, staff very kind and service oriented
Cons: Not sure about the service during the breakfast
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was good
Cons: Breakfast was very basic and rooms uncomfortable. Also smelly drains.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great swimming pool, friendly staff, good food. Lovely grounds and great shaded parking area, very handy in the summer. Nice menu, great wine, friendly staff in the restaurant. For walking tours, cycling and canoeing the staff know their stuff.
Cons: Rooms a bit rustic - especially bathroom fittings, carpet. No air conditioning, just an old fan. The hotel has a lot of charm, but the rooms would be better if fully renovated with shower that can be hung at different heights properly and nicer fittings in general. It was clean though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Location of the Place is magical, hidden away in calm nature. The rooms have a more recent antiquity, but this is just adding to the charm. The property is big and has lots of opportunities to entertain oneself. The staff was really great, friendly and helpful making our stay perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing not to like

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location and very comfortable room
Cons: No heating in the bathroom Expensive breakfast
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice location opposite the river. Easy parking. Friendly welcome, especially under the circumstances.
Cons: The restaurant was closed exceptionally during our visit. This is a difficult one to review, as there had been 2 deaths recently in the family, (one violent) and a funeral was about to take place, so mitigating circumstances. The owner was very friendly, all things considered, and tried to accommodate us as best she could, if a little distracted, understandably. Her stand-in was very friendly, once she disappeared for the weekend. Some confusion over the availability of breakfast the second morning, which caused us to go next door, unnecessarily as it transpired, but to late. The Logis literally next door, has an excellent kitchen, that I can recommend unconditionally. Absolutely no towel rails in the bathroom which I found awkward and totally inexplicable.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Position in the village centre was convenient and parking on property was great
Cons: Lack of maintenance, didn’t feel clean ,average breakfast like an after thought, it really felt like we were living in someone’s home and it was a bit awkward.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience was excellent.Beautiful Holel in an amazingly beautiful little village, quite 'out of the way' but definitely worth the visit...
Cons: Can't find fault
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was superb. The owners were very pleasant and welcoming.
Cons: We had picked it for it's swimming pool but the pool did not look clean and the surrounding area looked rather tatty and unkept. There was no hairdryer in the room although the details said there would be. Sadly the breakfast was very disappointing - cereals not very fresh, one day only bread and jam - no fruit or croissants. Everywhere a bit untidy and not very welcoming.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Not much
Cons: Room was described as having separate bath room Actually, this was a curtain. The whole place had the feel of a youth hostel not a chambre, and was merely an adjunct to a family home It was so poor we bailed out after one night of a 2 night booking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was lovely, rustic, authentic and homely. The welcome was generous and the owners kindly opened the pool for us for a late evening swim which was lovely and refreshing. We all slept well and the breakfast was enough to see us on our onward car journey.
Cons: Shame we didn't book it for our return journey :)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was wonderful. Excellent restaurant nearby. The price was certainly very good and included a small breakfast. Very friendly family run business. Plenty of communal area to relax in. Would definitely return.
Cons: Would of liked more to eat for breakfast but for the price it would be unreasonable to complain.
